Elsie H. Taylor, died Friday in Yakima.

Mrs. Taylor was born and raised in Yakima.

Survivors include a son, Scott T. Taylor; a daughter, Teri Lynne Miller; and five grandchildren.

At Mrs. Taylor's request there will be no services. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mickey Pelley
Announcement dated May 11, 2010
Mickey Pelley, 83, of Granger died Saturday in Grandview.

Mrs. Pelley was born in Harrington, Wash. She lived in Granger for 75 years. She retired from Roosevelt Elementary School in Granger as secretary to the principal.

Survivors include five daughters, Charlene Miller, Marla Maltos, Sheri Pewtress, Dicey Pelley and Glenna Christiansen; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Viewing and visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday with recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with burial to follow at the Zillah Cemetery.

Mildred E. Moberly

Mildred Elsie (Scheel) Moberly, 96, died Wednesday at home.

She was born in Edmonton, Alberta. She came to the United States at age 7 and to the Yakima Valley in 1921. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Roger Moberly of Yakima; a daughter, Sharon Brittingham of Moxee; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Viewing will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with concluding services and burial to follow at West Hills Memorial Park.

Mary L. Cox
Announcement dated May 15, 2010
Mary Lue Cox, 98, of Prosser died Wednesday at her home in Sun Terrace. Mrs. Cox was born in Castle Rock, Wash., and moved around the Northwest when she was young. She worked as a telephone operator and later in a fruit packing warehouse. She and her husband bought a plumbing shop in Prosser in 1949 and she worked at the service counter.

Survivors include a son, Neal Cox of Benton City; a daughter, Gail Smith of West Richland; 15 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

At her request, there will be no public services. A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Prosser Funeral Home.

Maxine C. Hazen
Announcement dated May 15, 2010
Maxine C. Hazen, 86, of Sequim, Wash., died March 31. Mrs. Hazen was born in Toppenish. She was the office manager for Fort Simcoe Boy Scouts until her retirement. She also farmed in Wapato and was a clerk in a grocery store in Yakima. In 1989 she moved to the North Olympic Peninsula.

Survivors include three sons, Warren, Eugene and Richard Hazen; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

No formal services are planned. Arrangements are by Linde Family Funeral Services.

Shirley F. Krone

Shirley Faye Krone, 71, of Yakima died Friday at Willow Springs Care Center. Mrs. Krone was born in La Grande, Ore., and moved to Yakima in the early 1980s. She worked as a bookkeeper for ALS and had other jobs in the area.

Survivors include two sons, Jared Sperber of Port Orchard, Wash., and Mark Slack of Fort Collins, Colo.; three daughters, Rhonda Dauel of Sweetwater, Texas, Melodi Rogers of Gothenburg, Neb., and Kendra Aaron of Lincoln, Neb.; three brothers, Melbourne Poff Jr. of Houston, Stan Poff of Kearney, Neb., and Gaylord Poff of Sacramento, Calif.; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

At her request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory of Yakima.

Josephine Vittonet

Josephine Vittonet, 81, of Seattle died Monday at home.

Ms. Vittonet was born in San Benito, Texas. She lived in Sunnyside for many years and taught at St. Joseph Catholic Grade School. She later moved to Bellevue, Wash.

Survivors include her family, Brad Oldfield of Everett, Wash., Debra Smith of Seattle, Brian Oldfield of Prosser, Barry Oldfield of Boise, Idaho, and Scott Oldfield of Snohomish, Wash.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Cathedral. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.

Carol S. Sanger
Announcement dated May 15, 2010
Carol Sue Sanger, 58, of Selah died Thursday. Mrs. Sanger was born in Pasco and moved to Yakima from Spokane. She worked with the Yakama Indian National Housing Authority and served as former executive director for the YWCA.

Survivors include her husband, James Sackmann of Selah; a sister, Phylis Ayers of Pasco; and two brothers, Matt Sanger and Richard Sanger, both of Spokane.

Arrangements are by Keith and Keith Funeral Home.

Rutha M. Marsh
Announcement dated May 15, 2010
Rutha Mae Marsh, 90, of Yakima died Friday. Mrs. Marsh was born in Longrun, Mo. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Bervil Marsh of Yakima; a daughter, Betty Dodge of Black Diamond, Wash.; six sisters, Ruby Prine, Meda Marsh, Hazel Herd, Mildred Phillips and Hildred Allen of Washington and Beulah Schelle of Iowa; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Valley Hills Funeral Home of Yakima. Burial will be in West Hills Memorial Park.

Jack Sharpe

Jack Sharpe, 75, of Mabton died Wednesday in Yakima. Mr. Sharpe was born in Mabton. He was a wheat farmer all of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Sharpe; five children, Jim Sharpe, Bill Sharpe, Judy Vandivert, Cindi Sharpe and Mary Golden; three sisters, Helen, Fay and Kathy; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

An informal celebration of his life will be at 1 p.m. today at the family home. Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home LTD and Crematory.

Waunda I. Tokle

Waunda Ilene Tokle, 91, of Yakima died Friday at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Tokle was born in Preston, Neb. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Melody Scott of Moses Lake; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend should meet at the cemetery. Arrangements are by Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors.

Jerry L. Groen

Jerry Lee Groen, 57, of Sunnyside died Friday in Yakima. Mr. Groen was born in Seattle and served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He worked on the family farm and later did custom farm work.

Survivors include a daughter, Caley Groen of Tillamook, Ore.; a sister, Joyce Pendleton of Sunnyside; his companion, Sharon Fletcher of Grandview; and a grandson.

Viewing will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Military graveside services will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.

Stephanie J. Manthei (Stapleton)
Announcement dated May 15, 2010
Stephanie J. Manthei (Stapleton), 45, of Las Vegas died April 24. Ms. Manthei was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and lived in Yakima for 13 years before moving to Las Vegas. While in Yakima, she worked at Olive Garden as a waitress.

Survivors include a daughter, Quira Rae Manthei of Las Vegas; her mother and stepfather, Margaret Cook and Dan Cook of Doris, Calif.; her father, Tom Manthei; and two brothers, Jeff Manthei and Brad Manthei.

A private memorial services was held April 30 in Las Vegas. Arrangements were by Palm South Jones Funeral Home, Las Vegas.

Leslie C. Bedolla
Announcement dated May 17, 2010
Leslie C. Bedolla, 2, of Outlook died Thursday in an accident on Outlook Road.

Leslie was born in Toppenish.

Survivors include her parents, Roberto Bedolla and Anna Rosa Bedolla; a sister, Sandra Bedolla; and two brothers, Roberto Bedolla Jr. and Steven Bedolla, all of Outlook.

A viewing was held Sunday at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside, followed by a reading of the roasry Sunday evening. Burial is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Granger, with a burial to follow in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.

Santos Castilleja

Santos Castilleja, 49, of Harrah died Friday. Mr. Castilleja was born in Prosser and raised in the Lower Valley. He had worked for Labee Mint, Goldendale Aluminum and AMB Tools.

Survivors include his wife, Melissa of Harrah; four sons, Danny Rothrock of Florida, Andrew Castilleja of Wapato and Aaron and Ki Castilleja, both of Harrah; his father, Victor Castilleja Sr. of Wapato; three brothers, Victor of Yakima and Steve and Ray, both of Harrah; six sisters, Sylvia Arambul of Wapato, Rosie Diaz of Texas, Estella Gonzales of Sunnyside, Alicia Cordova of Harrah, Mary Bobb of Brownstown and Christy Chumley of Toppenish; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Colonial Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Grace Brethren Church in Harrah. Interment will follow in Reservation Community Memorial Park, west of Wapato. Arrangements are by Colonial Funeral Home.

Elmer E. Griesse

Elmer E. Griesse, 91, of Yakima died Saturday. Mr. Griesse was born in Meinert, Mo. He followed his father into the ministry. He served as a missionary in India for 19 years and later served as a pastor in Idaho, Iowa, Nebraska and Mississippi. He retired to Olympia and moved recently to Yakima.

Survivors include his wife, Florine Griesse of Yakima; two children, Mark Griesse of Yakima and Margaret Griesse of Tacoma; two sisters, Doris Snyder of Kansas City, Mo., and Lois Hoyer of Indiana; and five grandchildren.

Memorial service will be at 4 p.m. May 27 at Peace Lutheran Church in Selah. Arrangements are by Keith and Keith Funeral Home.

Leo N. Slagg
Announcement dated May 18, 2010
Leo N. Slagg, 83, of Granger died Sunday in Sunnyside. Mr. Slagg was born in Emmet, N.D., and received his education in Granger. He was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel "Dolly" Slagg of Granger; six children, Jean Harris of Grandview, Cheryl Burnes and Shelley Alcala, both of Zillah, Donna Amsbury of Spokane, Carl Slagg of Granger and Jeri Toner of Yakima; a brother, Eldys Slagg of Toppenish; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday at Smith Funeral Home of Sunnyside The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Zillah Cemetery.

John S. Davison

John Sevrin Davison, 92, of Prosser died Friday at home. Mr. Davison was born in Juneau, Alaska, and moved to Prosser in 1919. He helped his parents on their dairy until joining the Army, where he served in Japan. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service before going into the military, resuming when he returned to Prosser.

Survivors include his wife, Della Davison of Prosser; two sons, Jim Davison of Toppenish and Lynn Davison of Prosser; a daughter, Lona Lyle of Wasilla, Alaska; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Prosser Funeral Home.

Joseph S. Lee

Joseph S. Lee, 41, of Yakima died Saturday at home. Mr. Lee was born in Yakima and raised and educated in Moxee. He worked several jobs in the Yakima area.

Survivors include his wife, Tammie Lee of Yakima; three children, Cayla Lee-McKamey of Texas and Dylan Lee and Daniel Lee, both of Yakima; his parents, Rahnie and Dorothy Lee of Moxee; a brother, Timothy Lee of Yakima; and one grandson.

Memorial service will be at noon Friday at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in Tahoma Cemetery.

Lloyd E. Rabanal Sr.

Lloyd E. Rabanal Sr., 71, of Toppenish died Saturday in Yakima. Mr. Rabanal was born in Toppenish and served in the Marine Corps. He lived in Seattle and worked for Boeing and Honeywell before moving his family back to the Valley, where he farmed and worked for Dowty Decoto Inc. He retired from Indian Health Service in 2004 as a maintenance mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Marian "Darlene" Rabanal of Toppenish; three daughters, Debra Azure of Toppenish, Kathy Woods of Everett, Wash., and Michelle DeLeon of Harrah; a son, Lloyd Rabanal Jr. of Toppenish; two brothers, Larry Rabanal of Ellensburg and Leonard Rabanal of Wapato; three sisters, Leona Talachy of Espanola, N.M., Mary Lou Owen of White Swan and Glenora Rabanal of Toppenish; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will start at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Colonial Funeral Home, with recitation of the rosary at 5:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Wapato. Interment will follow in Reservation Community Memorial Park, west of Wapato.

Jesus L. Ortiz

Jesus L. Ortiz, 87, of Sunnyside died Sunday in Yakima. Mr. Ortiz was born in Mexico. He worked in farm labor.

Survivors include his wife, Angelina Ortiz; five sons, Larry, Rudy, Rene, Michael and Jaime; five daughters, Lupe, Rosie, Olivia, Maggie and Ilda; 32 grandchildren 38 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with rosary to be recited at 7 p.m., at Smith Funeral Home of Sunnyside. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside, with burial to follow in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens.
