ALBERTA EDITH OSBOURN

Alberta E. (Hawley) Osbourn, 86, of Sunnyside went home to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, Monday, Feb. 28, 2005.

Alberta was born Oct. 25, 1918 to Harvey and Viola Mae (Neel) Hawley at their homestead near Trail City, S.D. She was the youngest of six children. She graduated from Aberdeen High School in South Dakota in 1937 and gladly moved from the terrible South Dakota winters to Denver, Colo., where she lived for 52 years. She graduated from the Bonnie Beauty School in 1938. After Alberta graduated from beauty school, she got a job next to the Pig Parlor, where Tex worked and he could see her reflection in the exhaust fan over the grill. When she walked by he would run to the back door so he could slip out to talk to her and the rest is history. On April 25, 1939 she married Milford (Tex) Osbourn. Together they were blessed with three daughters. In May of 1955, she went to work as a sales clerk in the yard goods and boys’ department at Sear Roebuck, Cherry Creek Store, where she worked until her retirement in June of 1980, 25 years later.

Both Alberta and Tex were born again through the blood of the Lord Jesus and were baptized, when they were in their mid-60s. Alberta was a wonderful Christian witness to many.

Alberta had been a resident of Sunnyside for the past 15 years, first living with her daughter, Beverly, then at Sun Terrace Assisted Living Facility and most recently at Hillcrest Manor

She always loved the climate and sunshine of Sunnyside. She attended Grandview Christian Center for several years and was affectionately known by the folks there as “Grandma”. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 118.24, “This is the day, which the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Her favorite hymn was “What A Friend We Have In Jesus.”

Alberta is survived by three daughters, Beverly Ross of Sunnyside, Joanne Zylstra (Bert), of Mission, Kan. and Sharon Brzeinski (John), of Fort Collins, Colo.; 13 grandchildren, Mary Ross, Leroy (LaRae) Ross, Susan (Nick) Martrinez, LaVerne Farnworth Jr., Susan (Tony) Bertsch, Diane Marquez, Michael (Leslie) Ross, Kathryn (Tony) Tate, Karen (Ken) Jordan, Andries (Christeena) Zylstra, Christine (Rick) Kline, Ryan Brzeinski and Tara (Adam) Woodroof. She was very proud of her 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, which live in Washington State, Oregon, Colorado, Kansas and Missouri.

We all “rise up and call her blessed” just like the woman in Proverbs 31 in the Bible. We rejoice that she was our loving and precious mother and grandma O. We loved her beyond measure. We will miss her, but we trust in the Lord’s promises that we will all have a joyful reunion in Heaven one day.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and her husband of 48 years.

Viewing will be held Friday, March 4, 2005, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, March 5, 2005, from 9 a.m. until time of service. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 5, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Burial will immediately follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside.

Those wishing to honor her memory may contribute to the Union Gospel Mission, P.O. Box 565, Yakima, WA 98907, Feed the Children, P.O. Box 36, Oklahoma City, Okla., 73101-0036 or to your favorite charity in Alberta’s name.
