Sequim resident Paul Arnold Quantz died Feb. 27, 2006, at the age of 76. Mr. Quantz was born July 27, 1929. A full obituary will appear in a later edition. Drennan & Ford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Johnnie 'J.T.' Ray Benhart Thompson
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. April 1 at Sequim Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4760, 169 E. Washington St., Sequim, for Johnnie "J.T. Ray Benhart Thompson. A celebration of life will follow at the home of his brother, Jerry Thompson, 1011 W. Spruce Court, Sequim. Mr. Thompson died March 22, 2006, at the age of 62. He was born June 26, 1943, in Anamosa, Iowa, to Henry and Jeannette (Gill) Benhart. He served in the United States Army from 1960-69. He was stationed first in Fort Riley, Kans., and then went on to serve overseas in both Korea and Vietnam. He married Dinh Kim Hoang on Aug. 25, 1968, in Saigon, Vietnam. They returned to Sequim in August 1969 and have resided here ever since. Upon returning to Sequim, he worked in the construction industry and started his own business, A-1 Construction, in 1976. In 1993, he and his brother Jerry and their wives purchased the Sundown Saloon. Mr. Thompson was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing and spending time with his four grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Kim of Sequim; son and daughter-in-law Denny and Kelli Thompson of Spokane; daughter and son-in-law Diana and Chris Young of Sequim; brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Laura Thompson of Sequim; sisters and brothers-in-law Bonnie Rae Thompson of Port Angeles; Terry and James Hammonds of Sequim; and also in California and Texas; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Clallam County, 540 E. Eighth St., Port Angeles, WA 98362.

Allen T. 'Skip' Van Ness
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. April 1 at the Masonic Hall, 700 S. Fifth Ave., Sequim, for Port Angeles resident Allen T. 'Skip' Van Ness. Mr. Van Ness died March 1, 2006, at the age of 68. Drennan & Ford Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

John 'Dave' Holder
A service has been held for Sequim resident John 'Dave' Holder, who died March 17, 2006, at the age of 67. He was born Sept. 8, 1939, in La Jolla, Calif., to Gilliam and Constance (Swyer) Holder. He served in the United States Navy, Merchant Marines, Global Marine Research Institute and with Olympic National Park Service in Port Angeles. He married Carolyn Lee on Jan. 10, 1965, in Las Vegas, Nev. He attended Peninsula College in Port Angeles, where he received a two-year associate degree in diesel mechanics. He worked at the Olympic National Park Headquarters equipment shop as a welder/fabricator/heavy equipment mechanic until he retired in 1999. He enjoyed surfing, fishing, the ocean, and walking on the beach as well as camping in areas around Washington state. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Sequim; adopted "of the heart son Walter "Brad Schmidt of Palmyra, N.Y.; and sister Jackie Stewart of South Dakota. Wilbur Jones
A service has been held for Sequim resident Wilbur Jones, who died March 14, 2006, at the age of 86. He was born March 4, 1920, in Santa Maria, Calif., to Ernest Victor and Alma Arminda (Gilman) Jones. He received a bachelor of arts degree from Pepperdine University and a master of education degree from Long Beach State College in California. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married France Elizabeth Gorham on Nov. 15, 1940, in Gardena, Calif. She preceded him in death on Aug. 23, 1992. He married Gloria Lee Gregson on Feb. 18,1994, in Sequim. He was an aviation technician and carpenter, and taught high school biology in California for 29 years. He was a member of Gardiner Community Church and loved to sing. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Alan and Carolyn Jones of Sequim; brother Morris Jones of Vacaville, Calif.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. John Adrian Slootmaker
A service has been held for Sequim resident John Adrian Slootmaker, who died March 16, 2006, at the age of 93. He was born Nov. 7, 1912, in Benton Harbor, Mich., to Adrian and Lora May (Wilson) Slootmaker. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Port Angeles. He served in the United States Army from June 6, 1942 to Nov. 15, 1945. He was a tech sergeant fourth grade and served in the Philippines, Luzon, and Bismark Archipelago. He married Twila Wynona Webb on Feb. 2, 1949, in Carlsborg. Mr.Slootmaker was a plumber in Carlsborg and Raymond, and in Crescent City, Calif. He was a ditch walker/water master for Kline and Clallam Ditch Company until the age of 84. He enjoyed mechanics, carpentry and permanent magnet motors. Mr.Slootmaker was a member of VFW Post 1024. He is survived by his wife, Twila of Carlsborg; daughter Florence Frazier of Carlsborg; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Wannettah Slootmaker and sister Alice May Slootmaker. Sequim Valley Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Donald Lee Stafford Jr.
A service has been held for Port Angeles resident Donald Lee Stafford Jr., who died March 18, 2006, of cardiac arrest at the age of 40. He was born May 13, 1965, in Mount Vernon to Patricia A. Nelson and Donald Lee Stafford Sr. He attended Port Angeles High School. He married Lori G. Esquilel on Feb. 14, 1992. They later divorced. Mr. Stafford was a logger in Washington, Alaska and North Carolina. He was an adventurer, willing to try anything at least once. He enjoyed beach walking; fishing; hunting; and creating things with his hands. He is survived by his son Stephen Stafford of Michigan; daughter Sheyann Stafford of Michigan; brothers Joe Stafford of Port Angeles and Randy Winkler of Hickory, N.C.; sisters and brothers-in-law Amy and Jim Gossard and Teresa and Marvin Anderson of Port Angeles; and mother Patricia Stafford of Port Angeles. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald L. Stafford Sr., in 2002. Celia Ruth Wilson
No service has been reported for Sequim resident Celia Ruth Wilson, who died Feb. 27, 2006, at the age of 87. She was born May 18, 1918, in Ontario, Ore., to Almond F. and Norva Burr and graduated from Ontario High School in 1936. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Elgin, Ore., until 1947. She also owned and helped to operate the Rex Theatre in Elgin during her brief marriage to Leroy Stegner. They divorced in 1946. She married her high school sweetheart, James Howard Wilson, on April 5, 1947, in Newport News, Va. They lived in the Philippines while he was stationed there in the Navy for a brief period in the early 1950s. While living in Bainbridge, Md., in 1956, they adopted a baby girl, their only child. They moved to Concord, Calif., in 1958. While living in Concord, she dedicated herself to volunteering as a junior bowling coach at Clayton Valley Bowl for many years. After her husband retired from the United States Naval Weapons Station in Concord, Calif., in 1972, they moved to Sequim to enjoy the retired life. She became a member of and was very active in the Port Angeles Branch 354 of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association. She served as treasurer, secretary, and president. During the holidays, she baked a variety of Christmas cookies and made sure to deliver a generous plate of them to the Coast Guard Station on Christmas Day every year. During her life, she mastered many talents. She decorated wedding and birthday cakes for personal friends and family; also created oil paintings and made an effort to paint special pictures for her personal friends and family. Other talents included sewing, knitting, and quilting to perfection. She also was known for her beautiful flower gardens. She always enjoyed baseball and loved listening to the Mariners. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing the piano, and canning. She was very close to her three grandchildren and loved spending time with them and her friend Fern Beem of Sequim. She also loved her cat "Amber. She is survived by her daughter Donna Haught; brother and sister-in-law Robert and Elsie Burr, all of Sequim; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Howard Wilson, in 1985 and two brothers, Lawrence and Percy. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Clallam County or an Alzheimer's organization of choice. Sequim Valley Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Edginton
A service will be held at 2 p.m. April 6 for Sequim resident Mary Edginton, who died April 2, 2006, at the age of 88. She was born Oct. 4, 1917, in Alberta, Canada, to Roy and Pearl (Vail) King. She attended Griffin School in Olympia. She married Gene Edginton on Nov. 28, 1935, in Port Angeles. He preceded her in death on March 23, 1983. Mrs. Edginton was a homemaker for many years. In her earlier years, she was a talented seamstress and enjoyed cooking and crafts. She always had a smile on her face. She was a loving mother and grandmother who had many friends and a large extended family at Sherwood Assisted Living in Sequim. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Barbara and Bruce Fernie, of Sequim; Darlene and Jerry Lawrence, of Yuma, Ariz.; and Judy and Dale Johnson, of Olympia; brother and sister-in-law John and Lois King; and sister Mildred Winter of Arlington. She was preceded in death by her brothers Don King, Warren King and Lawrence King and sisters Doris Webster, Virginia Fuller and Lorraine King. Memorial contributions may be sent to a charity of choice. Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Gwin May

Hazel G. Dascher
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. April 12 at Unity Church in Port Angeles, 2917 E. Myrtle St., for Port Angeles resident Hazel G. Dascher, who died April 4, 2006, at the age of 86. A reception will follow. She was born Oct. 15, 1919, in Seattle to William and Gladys (Thurber) Pepperill. She married George F. Dascher on April 12, 1994 at the Monterra Clubhouse in Port Angeles. Mrs. Dasher was a nurse, an admirer of art and an artist. She is survived by her husband, George Dascher of Port Angeles. Sequim Valley Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Andrea R. King
A service will be held at 6 p.m. April 18 at Sequim Valley Chapel, 108 W. Alder, Sequim, for Sequim resident Andrea R. King, who died April 4, 2006, at the age of 27. She was born April 18, 1978, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She married Tyler R. King on May 20, 2004, in Las Vegas, Nev. She worked at Three Crabs Restaurant as a prep cook. She enjoyed camping, fishing and baseball. She collected giraffes and loved all animals. She is survived by her husband, Tyler King of Sequim; mother and stepfather, Lori and Walter Athow; and brother J.T. Athow.

Hayley Marie Haller
A service has been held for lifelong Port Angeles resident Hayley Marie Haller, who died April 2, 2006, at 17, as the result of a car accident. Miss Haller was born Oct. 25,1988, in Port Angeles to Michael D. and Holly J. (Diamond) Haller. She enjoyed shopping, music and clothing. She is survived by her mother, Holly Haller, and father, Mike Haller, both of Port Angeles; maternal grandparents Ed and Arlene Diamond of Whidbey Island; and sisters Danika Diamond Haller of Portland, Ore., and Lacey Haller of Port Angeles. Josephine Margaret Williams
A service has been held for Port Angeles resident Josephine Margaret Williams, who died April 4, 2006, at the age of 91. She was born March 26, 1915, in Great Falls, Mont., to Barney and Josephine Agnes (Shubic) Hren. She married Eugene C. Williams on June 4, 1939. He preceded her in death on July 12, 1987. Mrs. Williams worked as a cook for the Port Angeles School District until 1968. She was a homemaker most of her life and a Clallam County resident since 1918. She was an avid bowler for many years. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Homemakers and the senior center. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Donald and Marilyn Williams of Port Ludlow; sisters Helen Galloway and Pauline Johnson of Port Angeles; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Gladys Beryl Wray
No services were reported for former long-time Port Angeles resident Gladys Beryl Wray, who died March 13, 2006, at the age of 89. Mrs. Wray was born July 9, 1916, in Centralia to Carl B. and Anna A. (Asmus) Kreher. She married J. Richard “Dick” Wray on Sept. 4, 1954. He preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 1991. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Port Angeles in 1933. She was a Port Angeles resident from 1928 until she moved recently to Tacoma. She was employed for almost 20 years as an office clerk and accountant stenographer, working in the government employment office and in the accounting and timber departments of Crown Zellerbach Corp. in Port Angeles. She was a long-time member of Dry Creek Grange. She is survived by her brother Clifford W. Kreher of Port Angeles; sister Gertrude A. Waldron of Tacoma; and numerous nephews and nieces. Kris Kyle Weber
A celebration of life was held for Kris Kyle Weber, the son of Marleen Bird and step-son of Wayne Bird of Port Angeles. Mr. Weber died March 24, 2006, at the age of 42.

Jim E. Lackey
No service has been reported for Sequim resident Jim E. Lackey, who died April 6, 2006, at the age of 78. He was born Oct. 9, 1927, in Sunnyside, to Ralph Edgar and Clara Bernice (Delaney) Lackey. He married Margarita G. (Garcia) Lackey on Dec. 2, 1989, in Port Angeles. Mr. Lackey retired from the Public Utility District. He was very interested in genealogy and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Margarita Lackey; sons Jon Lackey, of Falls Church, Va., and David Lackey, of Seattle; daughter Janet Hamlon, of San Marcos, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Irma C. (Secor) Priest
A graveside inurnment service for Sequim resident Irma C. (Secor) Priest will be held at 1 p.m. April 22 at Angeles Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Richard Rutledge will preside. A reception and potluck follows from 2-4 p.m. at the Pioneer Memorial Park clubhouse, 387 E. Washington St., Sequim. Mrs. Priest died April 13, 2006, at the age of 95. She was born Feb. 18, 1911, in Oso, to William and Musetta (Umlor) Secor. She married Earl Bennett Priest on Dec. 21, 1929, in Sequim. He preceded her in death on May 26, 1994. Mrs. Priest considered being a good mother and homemaker her job in life. She loved to cook and help her husband with his work. She loved her flowers and garden, always sharing with friends and family. She was creative with her hands, fashioning flower corsages and bouquets from many materials, including ribbon, foam, plastic and crepe paper. She also made dolls from soap bottle bodies and folded magazines, making clothes for them from her own patterns. She was a member of Sequim Bible Church; a past noble grand of Rebecca assembly of IOOF of Washington; and a life member of Sequim Prairie Garden Club and Museum and Arts Center in Sequim. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Ronald and Judy Priest; and Randy and Jane Priest of Sequim; sister Evelyn (Secor) Easterly of Sequim; and numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by daughter Kathleen J. (Blowers) Gault in May 1983. Memorial contributions may be sent to Sequim Prairie Garden Club, P.O. Box 46, Sequim, WA 98382; Museum and Arts Center, 175 W. Cedar St., Sequim, WA 98382; or a charity of choice. Sequim Valley Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Dean C. Lowery
A memorial service for Sequim resident Dean C. Lowery will be held at 2 p.m. April 24 in the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road. Mr. Lowery died April 6, 2006, at the age of 77. He was born May 9, 1928, in Stuart-Pittsburg, Okla., to Alvers Oren and Lona Irene (Wright) Lowery. He served with the United States Maritime Service before enlisting in the Navy on Aug. 31, 1945. While in the Navy, he graduated from high school. His first marriage, to Maxine North in Salem, Ore., ended in divorce. He married Alvina Handel in Phoenix, Ariz., on May 18, 1965. Mr. Lowery worked in route sales and auto sales in Salem, Ore., Santa Barbara, Calif., and Ventura, Calif., before moving to Sequim in 1985. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks, and the Masonic lodges, all in Sequim. He also was a member of the Christian Church in Goleta, Calif., and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. He enjoyed fishing and RV traveling. He is survived by his wife, Alvina Lowery; sons and daughters-in-law Jim and Della Lowery, of Terrebone, Ore., and Tim and Desserrea Lowery, of Silverton, Ore.; daughters Kathryn Kettel, of Sequim, and Deena J. Flynn of Walnut Creek, Calif.; brothers and sisters-in-law Ed and Jo Lowery, of La Pine, Ore., and Jack and Debby Lowery, of Salem, Ore.; sister Deeann Hurd, of Tidewater, Ore.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son Phillip Lowery. Memorial contributions may be sent to Sequim Elks Scholarship Fund, 143 Port Williams Road, Sequim, WA 98382. Olympic Cremation Association was in charge of burial in the veterans' section of Sequim View Cemetery.
