Sonya Denise Saint

Sonya Denise Saint passed away on Nov. 23, 2012, in Brewster, Wash.
Sonya, the first child of Dee and Ruby Lucky, was born on Dec. 8, 1939, in Pampa, Texas. Her father, whom she always called “Daddy”, worked in electrical construction and had to move often during those years to follow the work. Sonya was followed by three siblings: Mick who was born in Texas, Sharon who was born in California, and Virginia who was born in Missouri. The Lucky children attended many schools until the family settled in Okanogan, Wash. in the early 1950s. Sonya graduated from Okanogan High School in 1957. Sonya treasured her family and childhood years.
Sonya married Jim Pritchard in 1957 and they had three children together: Tami, Mark, and Darla. Sonya spent the next 20 years raising her children and supporting their activities. She was always at the ready to make a meal, iron a shirt, fix unruly hair, or chauffer a child to the activity of the hour. She was fond of teasing her kids when they were older, “I hope you have a child that is just like you.”
In 1978 Sonya completed EMT training and joined the Brewster Ambulance Crew, where she was a member for 9 years. The EMT work motivated her to return to college where she completed coursework and obtained an LPN license in 1979. Sonya worked in nursing for the next 22 years, and along the way, went back to college one more time to complete an RN degree in 1992. She worked at the Brewster Hospital and as Dr. Cerpa’s nurse for those many years until she retired in 2001. Fortunate were the many she cared for over the years.
On May 2, 1981, Sonya married her best friend, Don Saint, at their home in Brewster. In their 31 happy years together, Don and Sonya enjoyed a full and active life with their combined family. They took many hunting and fishing trips together with friends and family, and loved to go camping. Don and Sonya enjoy poodles and have cared for many through the years, including Lizzy, now Don’s most faithful companion. They took pride in completing home improvement projects, large and small.
Always curious, Sonya recently joined the North Central Washington Prospector’s Club, hunting for coins and jewelry with her metal detector.
Sonya was most “home” when she was cooking for those she loved, and everyone was welcome at her table. She was quick to share her favorite recipes and make them for her family and friends. Sonya liked to read in quiet times, and was known to be an enthusiastic shopper. She collected keepsakes like old coins, hand-tooled belts, and pretty jackets. Sonya loved trips to Montana to pick huckleberries, and always enjoyed visiting new places. In 2010, she vacationed in Las Vegas with her sisters and her sister-in-law, Audry. They shared many laughs and made great memories.
Sonya was a life-long Christian and active in her church, Faith Baptist Church in Bridgeport. She was devoted to God, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Dee and Ruby Lucky; and by granddaughter, Holly Anne Parker.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at 2 p.m. The service will be located at Barnes Chapel, 510 W. Indian, Brewster, Wash. A reception will follow at the American Legion Hall. Delores Genevieve (Picard Cook) Stalder

Delores Genevieve (Picard Cook) Stalder died Nov, 13, 2012, at Tonasket, Wash. She was 93 years old. She had been a resident of Tonasket for 53 years.
Delores was born Aug. 31, 1919, in Omak, Wash. to Stanley and Agnes (Potvin) Picard. It was there she attended school and welcomed four brothers and a sister into the family.
As a child, the family moved for three years to Tahola on the Quinault Reservation, where she acquired her love for the sounds and smell of the ocean. She made return trips to Tahola in 1987 and again in 2010. Upon returning to Omak, she worked as a young girl cleaning house and clinic for the doctor at the old agency in East Omak.
She met Donald “Glen” Cook at a neighbor’s home (that happened to be his uncle) and they were married in June of 1937. Two years later, minus one day, their first child was born, Stanley S. Cook. Two years later, he was joined by their first daughter, Glenda, and in 1951 another daughter, Loralie “Lori,” was added to the family.
Being raised and newly married during the Depression years, Delores could always “use it up and make do.” She was an excellent seamstress, making shirts, dresses, and coats for her entire family. She continued to sew for herself and family members, including several prom formals, and a couple wedding dresses, well into the 80’s. She loved any type of needlework and did them all. Her home was always adorned with doilies and embroidered scarves she had made.
After living in Loomis, Tonasket, Okanogan, Pateros, and Wenatchee, the family migrated to Seattle for employment for a period of years. Returning to Tonasket in 1959, they purchased Cook’s Cash Market and operated that and a small orchard until the 70’s.
In May of 1974, Delores married Bert Stalder. She worked as a cook’s helper at Romar’s restaurant and cooked for North Valley Hospital for 13 years, retiring at the age of 71.
Delores was a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Reservation, and a devoted Jehovah’s Witness. She loved to travel, and took several trips around the country with her sisters from the hall and her children. She loved family gatherings and was always ready to go. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life, and she attended as many sporting events, rodeos and school concerts as she could manage. She enjoyed being the “matriarch” of the family, and kept close tabs on her siblings too.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert; an infant brother; her sister, Beverly Johnson; and her granddaughter, Linda Smith. She is survived by her son, Stan Cook of Malott; daughters, Glenda Smith of Tonasket and Lori Cook of Okanogan; stepdaughter, Birdie Nelson of Tonasket; and stepson, Monte Stalder of Omak; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; her brothers, Richard Picard of Spokane, Howard Picard of Brewster and Donald Picard of Omak; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Loved and adored by her entire family, Delores never had a bad word to say about anyone and will sincerely be missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at noon, at the Tonasket Eagles. A luncheon for family and friends is to follow. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to a charity of your choice.
Bergh Funeral Service of Tonasket is in care of arrangements.
