  Lorren J. “Bud” Klein passed away at the Eldon Nursing & Rehab in Eldon, Mo., on March 1, 2008.
He was born in Bellingham on June 1, 1922, to Bernhardt and Alice (Jenkins) Klein. He was married on June 27, 1947, in Bellingham to Bernadine (Huisman) Klein, who preceded him in death on March 23, 2003.
Surviving him are a daughter and son-in-law, Lorrenda (Rendy) and David Lepper of Eugene, Mo.; four grandchildren: Paul Lepper, Craig Lepper, Brenda Lepper and Stephen Lepper; eight great-grandchildren; sister Valerie Craig of Bay View, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eura Davis

  Eura Myrtle Davis, age 88, of Bellingham, died on Feb. 27, 2008.
She was born on June 3, 1919, in East Wenatchee to Clarence Payton Prather and Myrtle Lulu (Allen) Prather, the seventh of 10 children.
Eura was preceded in death by her husband Ellsworth Russell “Al” Davis on Jan. 12, 1963; both parents; four brothers: Lewis, Gordon, Aaron and Ray Prather; and three sisters: Opal James, Mary Taplin and Geneva “Sis” Jaycox.

Glenn Gould

  Glenn David Gould, of Glacier, passed away on Feb. 24, 2008. He was 73 years old.

  JoAnn Baer, of Bellingham, passed away on March 2, 2008. She was 97 years old.

Erling Byron Crabtree

Erling Byron Crabtree, of Lynden, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008.
He was born in Lynden on Jan. 13, 1924, to Harry and Annie Crabtree and married Etta Pauline Chronister on June 10, 1949.
Erling was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pauline; two sisters, Vivian and Alice Mae; and two brothers, Morris (Peg) and Charles.

Mary Ann Windon

Mary Ann Windon, of Kendall, was taken to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham. She was 81.
A lifetime county resident, Mary Ann was born on Feb. 28, 1926, a daughter of Ned and Eva (Theisen) Rogers. She graduated from Mount Baker High School in 1943 and, following her marriage to Nick Dubbs, married Clyde Windon in 1980.

Scott Alan Oostema

Scott Alan Oostema, of Deming, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Monday, March 10, 2008, after a lifetime struggle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
He was born in Bellingham on April 14, 1986, and was a lifetime resident of Whatcom County. Scott was an avid collector of John Deere tractors and memorabilia. He enjoyed a full life on the farm.

Marian Scholten
Announced on March 19, 2008 - 8:55am.

  Marian Scholten, age 88, former resident of Lynden, died on Feb. 29, 2008, in El Paso, Texas.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, William (Bill); three children, Eileen (Jim) Howerzyl, Ken (Roberta) Scholten and Bob (Patty) Scholten; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brother John (Maybelle) Elenbaas; and sister Winifred Bulthuis.

Ida Edwards
Announced on March 19, 2008 - 8:54am.

  Ida Edwards, a longtime resident of Lynden, passed away on March 1, 2008, in Yuma, Ariz.
Born on Dec. 18, 1919, in Lily Plaines, Sask., she moved to Vancouver, B.C., where she met and married Harold Edwards. She became a resident of Wellton, Ariz., three years ago.
She is survived by many nieces, grand-nieces, nephews and grand-nephews.

Sylvia Zwyns

Sylvia Zwyns joined her Lord and Savior, Jesus, on March 3, 2008, at the age of 85 while in the caring presence of her daughter Donna in Wenatchee. She was known for her kindness and her love for the Lord.
Born on March 31, 1922, as the eighth of nine children of Henry and Augusta Terpsma, she grew up on the Willeys Lake Road. There Sylvia met and later married a neighbor boy, Peter Zwyns, in 1941. They spent their first married year together in South Seattle while he worked at Boeing. On returning to Lynden, they raised three children in the 805-900 West Grover Street neighborhood. After 60 years as a twosome, Pete died at home in 2000. Due to lessening health, Sylvia moved to Meadow Greens in August 2003 and then spent the last two to three years in Wenatchee near family.

Anna De Hoog

Anna De Hoog, of Everson, went home to her Lord and Savior at the age of 90 on Tuesday, March 4, 2008.
She was born on Dec. 13, 1917, in Zuidland, the Netherlands, to Jan and Adriana (van Bodegom) van den Berg. Anna was married to Gilles De Hoog on Dec. 29, 1943, in Holland and together they emigrated from Holland to California in September 1947. They moved to Lynden in 1954 and in 1960 they settled in Everson to raise their family and operate a dairy farm on the Everson-Goshen Road. Anna was a member of First Christian Reformed Church and was gifted with her hands as she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing.

Sarah “Eva” Jarvie

Sarah “Eva” Jarvie, age 88, of Ferndale, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2008. She was born on Dec. 23, 1919, in Harpster, Idaho, to Robert and Viola Rankin.
Eva grew up in Clarkston, Wash., and graduated from Clarkston High School. She met her husband Robert “Bob” Jarvie while she was working for Newberry’s in Lewiston, Idaho. They were married in Clarkston on June 2, 1940, and were happily married for 63 years. Bob was a manager of Newberry Stores, and they lived in Seattle, Oregon, California, Montana, Colorado and New Mexico while they were with Newberry’s. In 1953, they moved to Washington and started Jarvie Department Store in Ferndale, which they owned and operated for 29 years.

Virginia Damus

Virginia Damus, 91, of Ferndale, passed away on March 4, 2008, peacefully at home with family around.
Virginia was born on Feb. 17, 1917, in Seattle to Julius and Eugenia (Hughes) Brehm. She was married to Clyde Foss in 1940 until his death in 1964. She was remarried to Jack Damus in 1977 until his death in 1986. She remained in Seattle until moving to Ferndale in recent years to be closer to her family.

Lewis Marion Megard

It is not a given that loved ones will follow one another in death a short nine days apart. But that is exactly what Dagne and Lewis did. They were blessed with a life-time of love, respect and caring for one another. In their final breaths, it was of each other that the other thought.

Everett Scholten

Everett Scholten, age 96, of Lynden, went peacefully into the waiting arms of his Heavenly Father and is now reunited with his first wife ‘Jo” and many other friends and family who have gone before him.
Everett was born on Feb. 13, 1912, in Zutphen, the Netherlands, and passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2008, in Lynden.

Andrew “Andy” Mellema

Andrew “Andy” Mellema ended a blessed and full life surrounded by his family Thursday afternoon, April 10, 2008. He will be remembered as a caring father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him along his 103 years of life.
Andy was born to Dirk and Elizabeth Mellema in Janum, the Netherlands, on Feb. 5, 1905, and immigrated to America in 1930. He returned to Holland in 1934 to marry Gertrude Kooi and they settled in southern California, where six of their eight children were born. Andy worked in the California dairy community as a butcher and milker.

Adriana A. “Peggy” Jansen

Adriana A. “Peggy” Jansen, age 88, of Lynden, died peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2008, at the Christian Health Care Center.
A daughter of William and Ada (Hoover) VanderGriend, Peggy was born on Oct. 28, 1919, and was a lifetime Lynden resident, graduating from Lynden High School in 1937.

Anna (Annie) Icard

In memory of our beloved mom:
Anna (Annie) Icard was born in Arlington to Thomas and Hanna Montgomery on Dec. 5, 1922, the seventh of eight children. She passed peacefully on April 9, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital after a short illness.
Love for the outdoors, cooking for her family, playing cards, her horses, Scotty dogs and her mule, Jenny, all brought much joy to her life. As the “life of the party,” she always enjoyed a good time.

Marjorie Dickey

  Marjorie “Midge” E. Dickey, a Bellingham resident for 20 years, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2008. She was 91 and born in Acme to Mable (Stephens) and Walter Douglas on Nov. 2, 1916.
Midge was employed as a telephone operator in Deming for several years. Later, she worked as a part-time clerk at the post office in Acme. Midge was a member of Acme Presbyterian Church and later Birchwood Presbyterian Church. She and husband Clyde farmed property which was homesteaded by her grandparents.
