CECILIE M. (ENDICOTT) POWELL

passed away July 9, 2002, at Hospice of Dayton, Ohio, just two days before her 93rd birthday. She was a resident of Sequim for approximately 30 years. Three months ago, she moved to Ohio to be with her family.

Cecilie was born in England and came to the United States as a small child. Her father was a chef on a cruise on which Mr. Firestone sailed. He asked to meet the chef and asked Mr. Endicott to come to the States to be his personal chef. They lived on the Firestone Estate and her father often accompanied Firestone, Henry Ford and Thomas Edison on hunting trips.

When Cis was 9, her father died in an auto accident and the family moved to California. Life took a drastic change. As a young woman, she joined the civil service. She spent her life traveling with her beloved husband, George K. (Bud) Powell, who preceded her in death in 1994. They married in 1951 in Tachikawa, Japan.

Cecilie loved and supported the fine arts and opera. Cis loved the game of golf. She was a member of the Dungeness Bay Golf Club, often serving as the Women's League president.

She leaves behind three stepchildren, K. Jean Cotterman and her six children, George T. Powell III and wife, Gwenda, and their daughter, and Leslie K. Powell and his six children. A total of 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren survive.

She will be remembered by a host of friends all over the world.

The family would especially like to thank Cis' wonderful friend, Peggy Fitzgerald. We could never thank her enough. Special thanks also to Ron Prince, Marjorie Benning and Dr. Mark Fisher.

Per Cecilie's request, she was cremated and there will be a small graveside service where she will be placed next to her life mate.

If there is a special story about Cis that you would like to share, please mail it to the Powell Family, P.O. Box 547, Dayton, Ohio 45401 or e-mail to forcis@dawnthomas.com.
