Anita E. Stevens

March 14, 1915 -- Jan. 3, 2003

Anita E. Stevens of Port Angeles died in Olympic Medical Center at age 87.

She was born to Clarence and Maude (Henry) Frizzell in Seattle. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle, and married George H. Stevens there on July 25, 1936.

Mrs. Stevens worked at Frederick & Nelson Department Store at Seattle.

In 1945, she and her husband moved to Port Angeles, where they owned and operated Milady's Reducing Salon.

She also worked as a secretary for the Clallam County YMCA. Her love of working with youth led her to serve as an adviser to YMCA's Tri-Hi-Y as well as being a 4-H leader.

She enjoyed fishing for trout, and hiking and camping with her family. In later years, she liked to play bingo with her friends

Mrs. Stevens belonged to the American Primrose Society, Pleasant Mountain Grange, Mount Pleasant Homemakers and the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of Port Angeles; daughter and son-in-law Sandra and Wayne Roedell, also of Port Angeles; daughter and son-in-law Carol and Rockne Lechelt of Gresham, Ore.; foster son Lawrence ``Larry" Smallwood of San Lorenzo, Calif.; sister Mary Skau of Seattle; four grandchildren and seven great-grandsons.

Services: Friday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m., memorial, with reception following, in First Baptist Church, 105 W. Sixth St., Port Angeles. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: Charity of choice.

Richard Quentin Danks
Date of Birth: Wednesday, May 19, 1943
Date of Death: Friday, December 20, 2002
Richard Quentin Danks, 59, married June 16, 2001. His memorial service will be observed Sunday, Jan. 19, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., in the American Legion Hall, 107 E. Prairie St., Sequim.

Glen E. Aldrich

Oct. 13, 1930 -- Jan. 6, 2003

Quilcene resident Glen E. Aldrich died of heart failure in Coyle. He was 72.

Born in Cedar Falls, Iowa, to Ferris Ellsworth and Grayce Evelyn (Goodwin) Aldrich, he moved from Iowa to Seattle in 1944.

Mr. Aldrich was a truck driver in Alaska, then served in the Navy.

In 1952, he served a pattern-making apprenticeship and was employed at the Morel Foundry and Pac Car, retiring as shop foreman in 1996.

Fishing and politics were among his personal interests.

He married Muriel H. Maret in Bellevue on Jan. 31, 1987.

Services: Friday, Jan. 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., visitation in Kosec Funeral Home, 1615 Parkside Drive, Port Townsend, preceding the 2 p.m. graveside service in Laurel Grove Cemetery, also in Port Townsend. The Rev. Wendell Ankeny will officiate.

Gertrude I. Bertram

April 19, 1913 -- Jan. 4, 2003

Sequim resident Gertrude I. Bertram died in Port Angeles of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She was 89.

She was born in Sturgeon Lake, Minn., to Joseph and Mary (Zentkowski) Zasoski.

She worked was a waitress in Moose Lake and Cloquet, both in Minnesota, and in National, Eatonville, Tacoma and Sequim.

She married Clifford Bertram in Moose Lake, Minn., on Sept. 11, 1934. He died Dec. 24, 1968.

Mrs. Bertram was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Tacoma.

She is survived by sons James Patrick Bertram and Michael Joseph Bertram, both of Eatonville; daughter Mary Margaret O'Brien of Sequim; sisters Helen Sisco of Bakersfield, Calif., Agnes Pembleton of West Linn., Ore., and Rose Bauer of Bakersfield, Calif.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, those preceding her in death included brothers Louis, Joseph, Raymond and Leonard Zasoski and sister Margaret Wilson.

Services: Saturday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m., memorial Mass in Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 14601 A Street S., Tacoma. The Rev. John Renggli will celebrate. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Sequim, is in charge of arrangements.

James McGuire

May 31, 1915 -- Jan. 4, 2003

James McGuire of Sequim died in Island Health Care and Rehabilitation Center at Bainbridge Island. He was 87.

He was born to Frank and Grace (Sells) McGuire on Douglas Island, Alaska, and also lived in Indiana and Washington.

Mr. McGuire was a ham radio operator as well as a restorer of antique cars and musical instruments. He was a member of Alaskan Pioneers Club.

Survivors include sons James P. McGuire of Hillsboro, Ind., Lawrence J. McGuire of San Diego, and Hugh N. McGuire and Patrick F. McGuire, both of Lafayette, Ind.; daughters Kathleen Blankenship of Morton, Estella Morgan of Otterbein, Ind., and Erin McGuire of Lafayette, Ind.; sister Estella Rodal of Port Orchard; and 10 grandchildren.

His brother, Mickey L. McGuire, died in World War II.

Services: Saturday, Jan. 11, from noon to 2 p.m., visitation in Sequim Valley Chapel, 108 W. Alder St., immediately preceding the funeral at which Dr. Scott Koenigsaecker will officiate.

JAMES HARVEY BROWN JR.

May 5, 1936 - January 7, 2003

James Harvey Brown Jr. died peacefully in his home on January 7, 2003, at the age of 66, with his wife of 45 years and eldest son at his side.

Born May 5, 1936, to Judge James Harvey Brown and Ruth Hopkins Brown in Los Angeles, Calif., Jim graduated from Hollywood High School in 1954, serving twice as class president.

Upon graduating from high school he attended Stanford University and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He enlisted in the Army in 1958 and graduated from Officer Candidate School in 1959.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Troy State University and a Master of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Georgia Tech.

Jim served over 20 years in the Army as an artillery and aviation officer, including two tours in Southeast Asia. He retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1979.

His last military assignment was as the program manager for the XV-15 Tilt Rotor NASA/Army program at Moffett Naval Air Station, California. Upon retirement from the Army, Jim worked for General Electric in Los Angeles.

He and his family then moved to Mesa, Arizona, where he worked for McDonnell-Douglas Helicopter Company. In 1990 he moved to Port Angeles to become Vice President of Business Development of Rogerson Hiller Corporation. Jim also worked for Magna Force as Sales Manager and served five years on the United Way Board of Directors in Port Angeles.

Jim and Bev loved to travel, and Jim could be found either on the golf course or at the helm of their boat, The Happy Ours.

Jim adored to be surrounded by his grandchildren, and when he couldn't be with them he spent long hours on the computer downloading pictures from them. They, in turn, absolutely love their ``Gramps" and will miss him dearly.

His wife Beverly; sons James III, Michael, and David; sister Dorothy O'Leary; daughters-in-law Colleen and Jeanna; and grandchildren Nicholas, Jaycie and Mandy survive him. Jim leaves behind an enormous and supportive group of dear friends and extended family.

Jim fought a courageous battle against cancer, and his family would like to thank Dr. Robert Witham for his overwhelming support and care.

We would also like to extend our deepest appreciation to Hospice of Clallam County, and in lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Hospice of Clallam County, P.O. Box 2014, Port Angeles, WA 98362.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., January 13, 2003, at Ocean View Cemetery in Port Angeles.

Louis E. Barr

Jan. 29, 1917 -- Jan. 7, 2003

Sequim resident Louis E. Barr died of a stroke at age 85.

He was born in Seattle to William Edward and Estella Wilhelmina (Hages) Barr.

His wife of more than 50 years was the former Helen J. Campbell, who died June 1, 2002.

Mr. Barr worked for Fisheries Marine Supply in Seattle for several years. He then was a salesman for U.S. Plywood in Los Angeles until retirement in 1979, when the Barrs moved to Sequim.

He particularly loved fly fishing and saltwater fishing.

Mr. Barr was a member of Nile Temple Shrine and the George Washington Lodge No. 251 of the Masonic Order for 50 years, and was a charter member of Sequim Elks Club.

Survivors include son Wesley Stoft of Redway, Calif.; daughter Carole Walters of Idaho Falls, Idaho; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by sister Audrey Ruth Keith.

Services: No services are planned. Sequim Valley Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Rowena Irwin

June 4, 1930 -- Jan. 7, 2003

Rowena Irwin of Sequim died of cardiac arrest at Olympic Medical Center at age 72.

She was born in Springfield, Mass., to Warren Smith and Florence Berk.

She married Floyd Slover, and the couple lived in various states and countries while he served in the Air Force. Mr. Slover died in 1988.

She married Bruce Irwin on June 8, 1990, in Reno, Nev.

Mrs. Irwin enjoyed sewing, playing bingo and corresponding via computer.

Survivors include her husband in Sequim; sons Robert Slover of Wasilla, Alaska, and Byron Slover of Vacaville, Calif.; a daughter, Lorri Slover of Anchorage, Alaska; her mother, Florence ``Kitty" Berk of Sequim; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services: None planned. Sequim Valley Chapel is in charge.

Memorials: To a charity of choice.

Georgiann Winter Locke

March 25, 1949 -- Jan. 7, 2003

Joyce resident Georgiann Winter Locke died in Port Angeles at age 53. Cause of death is pending.

She was born in Hopkins, Minn., to George Hopkins and Genevieve Caw (Cook) Winter.

She married John L. Locke II on Oct. 5, 1968, in Hopkins. She worked as a retail clerk at Gottschalks department store in Port Angeles.

Mrs. Locke was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Port Angeles, Crescent Bay Lions and the Crescent Grange No. 1123 in Joyce.

Survivors include her husband, in Joyce; her mother, Genevieve Winter of Hopkins, Minn.; daughters JoNell Locke-Viacrucis of Sacramento, Calif., and Lesley Locke of Montana; sisters Jan Graziani and Debra Senn-Renfro, both of Minnesota; and two grandchildren.

Services: Saturday, Jan. 11, at 1 p.m., First United Methodist Church, 110 E. Seventh St., Port Angeles, with the Rev. John Maxwell officiating. Reception to follow. Olympic Cremation Association performed cremation. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Helen Martin

Sept. 11, 1903 -- Jan. 9, 2003

Port Angeles resident Mary Helen Martin died of pneumonia at age 99.

She was born to Clarence C. and Nellie (Bennman) Porter in Holt, Mo.

She married William C. Martin in Kansas City, Mo. He died in 1976.

Mrs. Martin was a professional seamstress in Kansas City and owned the Mary Helen Shop in Port Townsend.

While she lived in Port Townsend, she belonged to the First Baptist Church, Eastern Star and Soroptimist Club of Port Townsend.

Besides her sewing, Mrs. Martin enjoyed knitting, gardening, raising chickens and spending time with her family.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law James and Delores Moody of Port Angeles and Harold and Jenny Moody of Kearney, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Services: There will be a private family service. Olympic Cremation Association is in charge of arrangements.

Luella H. Spade

Feb. 22, 1917 -- Jan. 1, 2003

Port Angeles resident Luella H. Spade died of heart failure at age 85.

She was born in Mehurin Township, Minn., to Floyd M. and Nellie Blanche (Christianson) Harvey.

She married John S. Spade in Sibley, Iowa, on April 19, 1940. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Spade was a WAC in the Army for two years.

She was an administrative assistant for the Clallam County Public Utility District in Port Angeles, and was also a secretary at the Fibreboard Products Corp. mill, among various jobs she held over the years.

She enjoyed traveling and fishing.

Survivors include sons Jim Spade of Waterloo, Ontario, and Tom Spade of Seattle.

During her later years she was very close to Carol Cook, who was her main caregiver during the past four years.

Services: No services planned. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: Olympic Medical Center, 939 Caroline St., Port Angeles, WA 98362; or Veterans of Foreign Wars, P.O. Box 427, Sequim, WA 98382.

ROBERT E. FARR

Robert E. Farr of Port Townsend, Wash., died at his home on Jan. 7, 2003. He was 79. He was born Feb. 20, 1923, in Fort Wayne, Ind., to Homer and Emma (Hiller) Farr.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean conflict. Before coming to Port Townsend in 1956, he was employed at International Harvester in Fort Wayne.

Bob worked at Fort Worden Diagnostic and Treatment Center from 1958 to 1963, and then was a policeman for the City of Port Townsend for five years.

He then joined the staff at Erickson's Auto Body Center as an auto repair specialist in the late '60s and remained with them until 1985.

He married Dorothy Fauerbach in 1965.

Starting in the mid-1950s Bob became a local volunteer that enabled the City of Port Townsend and Jefferson County to grow and become a safer place by freely giving of his time.

He was a volunteer fireman (15 years) and was awarded Volunteer of the Year several times. Bob was a volunteer sheriff's deputy (15 years) and for over 20 years was a volunteer policeman and administrated the active reserve police officers.

He was active in the VFW No. 7014, board member of Retired Public Employees Council, president of the Soldiers and Sailors Relief Fund and a charter member of the Jefferson County Train Club.

He will be remembered as the motorcycle policeman that for many years led the Rhododendron Parade. Many will never see a model train without thinking of Bob.

Bob is survived by his wife, Dorothy, at the family home; sister Elaine Marks of Fork Wayne, Ind.; brothers George Farr of Bowling Green, Ohio, and Paul Farr of Sturgis, Ky.; daughters Linda Johnson and husband Roger of Chimacum; Kay Hermann and husband Bill of Port Angeles; son Raymond Fauerbach and wife Marcia of Kirkland; and seven grandchildren. Family and friends were very dear to him.

At Bob's request, there will be no service, but memorials may be sent to Jefferson General Hospital, Hospice Group.
