Charles Uriyah Perrin

Oct. 16, 1974 -- March 20, 2003

Charles Uriyah Perrin died in Port Angeles at age 28. Cause of death is pending.

He was born to Walter and Kareen (Welches) Perrin in Port Townsend.

Mr. Perrin lived in Port Angeles for 23 years. He was a gardener and landscaper, wrote his own songs, played guitar and wrote poetry.

Survivors include parents Kareen Perrin of Tacoma and Walter Perrin of Clallam Bay; brothers Warren Troy Perrin of Portland, Ore., and Lance Erik Withers of Tulsa, Okla.; and sisters Pauline Gladys Asplund and Elizabeth Hannah Boehm, both of Tacoma, and Sherry Lisa Owen of Wilsey, Kan.

Services: Tuesday, March 25, visitation from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a memorial service following at 2 p.m. at Harper Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, 105 W. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Memorials: Guadeloupe House of Hospitality, 1417 S. G St., Tacoma, WA 98405.

Jack Raymond Thornton

Aug. 31, 1918 -- March 19, 2003

Former Sequim resident Jack Raymond Thornton died in Providence Medford Medical Center, Medford, Ore., at age 84.

He was in Los Angeles to Earl and Florence (Wells) Thornton.

After Army service in World War II, he lived in Alaska, then moved to Sequim.

He married Emilie Wells in Port Angeles on Feb. 7, 1984.

They moved to southern Oregon in 1990.

In addition to his wife, who lives in Medford, Ore., survivors include son Rich Thornton of Anchorage, Alaska; stepson Sam Marsh of Grants Pass, Ore., and Tony Marsh of Los Angeles; stepdaughter Maria Rentas of Port Angeles; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Tim.

Services: None. Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford, Ore., is in charge.

Memorials: Shrine Hospital for Children, 3101 Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97239.

ELIZABETH CADE KOSKI

Elizabeth was born in Sanders, Mont., on May 22, 1912, and passed away March 6, 2003, in Billings.

She was the second youngest of seven children of Charles and Renilde (Saelens) Verhelst, who emigrated from Belgium in 1904. She was the last surviving member of her brothers and sisters: Mary Willems, Bertha Mackley, Edmund Verhelst, Margaret Mueller, Gerald Verhelst and Renilde Steiner.

The Verhelst family homesteaded in Eastern Montana near Sanders, and during Elizabeth's early years she worked on the family farm. She graduated from Hysham High School in 1930.

She married Millard Cade in 1930, and they had three children: Edmund, Cecelia and Thelma. She and Millard were later divorced. During World War II, she and the children moved to Portland, and Elizabeth became a welder in the shipyards there.

She married Eino Koski in 1950. They moved to Wallace, Idaho, where they owned and operated the Temple Hotel and Vets Club Bar for several years.

They then moved to Hayward, Calif., and at the age of 43 Elizabeth finally realized her lifelong dream of attending college. She completed a five-year teaching degree in two years and graduated from San Francisco State College with near-perfect grades. She loved teaching and helping her students.

In 1974, they moved to Sequim, Wash., and enjoyed an active retirement. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph's parish, where she enjoyed cooking for numerous church fund-raisers, sometimes feeding 200 people. She also cooked for fund-raisers at the Sequim-Dungeness Museum, the Sequim-Dungeness Duplicate Bridge Club, and for the Toastmistress Club, which she founded.

Elizabeth traveled to many parts of the world, and she loved to share stories of the people she met, many of whom became lifelong friends.

After Eino died she moved to Vancouver, Wash., in 1987. She became very active in the Friendship Force and sponsored many foreign exchange students from Japan and other countries.

She was a Life Master bridge player and competed in tournaments throughout the country.

Elizabeth was honored by her daughter's religious vocation and enthusiastically supported the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose.

Elizabeth loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and took time to write to each of them on birthdays and Christmas. She valued education and provided a trust fund to help her great-grandchildren go to college.

She is survived by her children, Edmund (Bernice) Cade of Gearhardt, Ore., Sister Renilde Cade (O.P.) of Mission San Jose, Calif., and Thelma (Corwin) Albrecht of Billings.

She has 10 grandchildren: Brenda (Jeff) Dunham of Billings, Audrey (Mark) Keszla of Littleton, Colo., Damian (Janie) Cade of Sammamish, Wash., Joseph (Sharon) Cade of Portland, Ore., Matthew Cade of Kent, Wash., Susan Cade of Deming, Wash., Amy (Bill) Sage of Chicago, Tom Cade of Seattle, Jennifer (John) Ruddell of Los Angeles and Michael (Sonja) Cade of Snohomish, Wash. She is also survived by 22 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass was offered at 10 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2003, at Little Flower Catholic Church. Cremation has taken place. Family interment of the cremated remains was at the Custer National Battlefield Cemetery on Tuesday, March 18.

Memorials may be made to the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, P.O. Box 3908, Fremont, CA 94539, or to the charity of one's choice.

Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Louise Carmen Gorrow

May 3, 1922 -- March 21, 2003

Port Angeles resident Louise Carmen Gorrow died at age 80.

She was born in Lostine, Wallowa County, Ore., to Arthur David and Jessie Leigh (Ward) Hulse.

She graduated from Roosevelt High School, Port Angeles, where she was a member of Torch Honor Society, in 1941.

She was a Port Angeles resident for more than 30 years and retired as a civil service employee with Olympic National Park. She also worked for the Army, Navy and Air Force. Her last eight years of employment were with Port Angeles Bonded Collectors.

Mrs. Gorrow was a 25-year member and past secretary of Fairview Grange and past regent of Michael Trebert Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She married Douglas E. Beauchemin in Port Townsend on Oct. 24, 1941. They later divorced.

She married Gordon LeRoy Gorrow in Seattle on March 1, 1957. He died July 10, 1978.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Leane D. and Daniel Johnson of Port Angeles; sister Hazel Persson of Redmond; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to Mr. Gorrow, she was preceded in death by son Douglas P. Beauchemin; infant daughter Rochelle Beauchemin; brothers Louis, Kenneth, Robert and Victor Hulse; and sisters Clara Cook, Carldene Langlois, Maxine Tinkham and Mellie Hoff.

Services: None at this time. Burial will be in Mount Angeles Memorial Park, U.S. Highway 101 and Monroe Road, Port Angeles. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles, is in charge.

Margaret J. Keohane Ray

Aug. 18, 1913 -- March 18, 2003

Former Port Angeles resident Margaret Josephine Keohane Ray died in Chico, Calif., at age 89.

She was born in Ireland to Michael and Hannah (Crowley) Keohane and came to Port Angeles by way of Canada when she was in her 20s,

She and lived in Port Angeles until about 1996, when she relocated to Northern California.

She attended Peninsula College when in her early 50s and was employed in the Peninsula College library

She was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church.

She had been married to Al Matthews, Arthur Nelson and David Ray.

Mrs. Ray's survivors include daughters Sylvia Matthews and Helen Torres, both of Maryland and Shangra Callaghan of California; son Michael Nelson of Port Angeles; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services: Services were held in Skyway Chapel, with Sorensen's Mortuary, Chico, Calif., in charge of arrangements.

Genevieve Berg Rednall Salazar

Jan. 8, 1950 -- March 14, 2003

Genevieve Berg Radnall Salazar of Port Townsend died of liver failure in Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 53.

Born in Marysville, Calif., to Charles Francis and Margaret (Fondahn) Rednall, she was primarily raised in Sacramento, Calif.

She married Richard David Salazar in Sacramento in 1970. They later divorced.

She moved to Bremerton in 1986 and to Port Townsend in 1997.

She was a housekeeper and night manager at The Palace Hotel.

She is survived by companion Don Mayard of Port Townsend; sons Richard David Salazar of Woodland, Calif., and Joseph Michael Rednall of Bremerton; daughters Genelle Marie Lopez of Bremerton, Lorraine Garnett of Columbus, Ga., and Mesha Hoang of Port Hadlock; twin brother Joseph; other brothers Charles Francis, Timothy, Daniel and Mark Rednall and half-brothers Richard, Max and Christopher, all of Anchorage, Alaska; sister Mary Beth Rednall of Tumwater; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Peter Rednall.

Services: Saturday, March 29, at 1 p.m., memorial in Kosec Funeral Home, 1615 Parkside Drive, Port Townsend, with the Rev. Gary Sumpter officiating, Burial with graveside service will follow in Redman Cemetery. A reception will be held in The Palace Hotel, 1004 Water St., Port Townsend.

Allen William `Bill' Shaw

Nov. 29, 1918 -- March 18, 2003

Port Hadlock resident Allen William ``Bill" Shaw died from cardiac arrest in Harrison Memorial Hospital, Bremerton. He was 84.

He was born to William H. and Nettie Viola (Connely) Shaw in Sunnyside, where he grew up and worked in the family's meat and locker plant.

In 1952, he moved to California, where he worked as a meatcutter-butcher. He retired to Port Hadlock in 1970.

Mr. Shaw was an active member of San Juan Baptist Church. He enjoyed sports such as baseball, football and fishing. He also enjoyed animals, especially cats, and reading.

Mr. Shaw's survivors include daughters Marlene F. Shaw of Port Hadlock and Judith E. Shaw of San Jose, Calif.; sister Patricia J. Fredricks of Hansville; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

His wife of 65 years, the former Helen Louanna Duncan, preceded him in death, as did his younger brother, Kenneth C. Shaw. Granddaughter Rebecca L. (Paul) Logan died in December 2002.

Services: Today, March 25, at 4 p.m., memorial in San Juan Baptist Church, 1704 Discovery Road, Port Townsend. Pastor Dan McMillan will officiate. Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend, is in charge of arrangements.

Lucy Dowd

Feb. 6, 1912 -- March 19, 2003

James Bruce `Jim' Hansey

April 1, 1948 -- March 19, 2003

Sequim resident James Bruce ``Jim" Hansey died at age 54. His obituary will be published later.

Bleitz Funeral Home, Seattle, is in charge of arrangements.

Nelson Thompson

Aug. 7, 1916 -- March 23, 2003

Nelson Thompson died in Port Angeles at age 86 of congestive heart failure.

He was born in Vance to John and Mary Elizabeth (Jarvis) Thompson.

He married Mary Edith Rutten in 1932.

Mr. Thompson was a welder at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard during World War II.

He later operated auto repair garages in Eatonville and Coos Bay, Ore., and did contract logging in Washington and Oregon until retiring in 1982.

He remained active, operating Thompson Sweeping Service and working for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, of which he was a member.

Mr. Nelson was an avid hunter and gun enthusiast as well as being interested in automobiles and ham radio.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law John and Ilene Thompson of Salem, Ore., and James and Besse Thompson of Bremerton; daughter Patricia Wooden of Tacoma; daughter and son-in-law Marilynn and Jack Marvin of Fairview, Ore.; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

His wife died in Port Angeles in 1999.

Services: Saturday, March 29, at 1 p.m., memorial in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 591 Monroe Road, Port Angeles. Inurnment of cremains with those of his wife will be in Mount Angeles Memorial Park, U.S. Highway 101 and Monroe Road, Port Angeles.

Marie Lucille Turner

June 20, 1917--March 23, 2003

Gardiner resident Marie Lucille Turner died in Kah Tai Care Center, Port Townsend, at age 85.

She was born in Cle Elum, the first child of Roswell and Mary (Withrell) Messer.

She lived in Wenas and Yakima before moving to Sunnyside and marrying Donald W. Turner on July 3, 1935.

The Turners resided in Sunnyside until they moved to Seattle in 1969 and Gardiner in 1975 on property given to them by her father.

Mrs. Turner was a lifelong homemaker.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Gary and Jo Turner of Leavenworth and Gordon and Kay Turner of Colfax; daughter Bonnie Jared of Gardiner; brothers Ross Messer of Kansas City, Mo., Marvin Messer of Rapid City, S.D., and Robert Messer of Spokane; sister Evelyn Wawrinofsky of Olympia; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Her husband died in 1993.

Services: At her request, none. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge.

Memorials: Rhododendron Grange No. 1137, c/o Loretta Grant, 792 W. Sequim Bay Road, Sequim, WA 98382.
