Robert (Bob) Allen O'Brion, Sr. "Grandpa O"

December 14, 1938 - April 8, 2001

Robert O'Brion passed away suddenly at Providence Everett Medical Center Colby Campus.

Robert was the youngest of three children born to Archie and Berneil (Stephenson) O'Brion in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Robert graduated from Fort Dodge High School and went into the Navy. He was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, where he met his wife of 40 years, Frances Delores Briley O'Brion. After serving four years in the Navy, he went into the Coast Guard and retired in March of 1980. During his Coast Guard years, they decided this was the area they wanted to retire and have their family home. Bob and Frances moved from Marysville to Stanwood in 1986. Bob was fortunate to fulfill all of his dreams - five acres with horses for his grandchildren to ride - a month long trip to Australia and New Zealand - and after working for Providence Everett Medical Center for 20 years, retiring and traveling in his RV across the country with his wife.

Robert was preceded in death by his brother Jerry; and his parents Archie and Berniel O'Brion.

He is survived by his loving family, his wife, Frances Delores O'Brion at the family home in Stanwood; sons, Robert and wife, Katina, of Conway, WA. and their children Robert III, Taylor and Erin, Gerald and fiancee Michelle Orr of Sultan and his children Shannon, Lacey and Jeremy of Sultan, WA.; daughters Karen and husband Tracy Byers of Gold Bar and their children Ronny, Thomas, Holli and Shawnna, Wendy and fiancee Dalles Sullivan of Enumclaw and her children Tyler and Chelsea, Kathleen and husband Russell Farden Jr. of Stanwood and their children, Les, Samantha, Natessa and Kelly. He is also survived by his sister Marvel McCormack of Fort Dodge, Iowa and a very large and loving extended family including his mother-in-law, Frances Briley of Virginia Beach, Virginia; brothers-in-law Thomas Briley, Jr. and wife Peggy, Rhonie Briley and wife Patti of Richmond, Virginia, sisters-in-law Helen and husband Monty Davis, Evelyn and husband Ernie Bowles of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Susan and husband Anthony Strickland of Concord, N.C.; and many, many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service was held on Thursday, April 12, 2001 at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home. Military Honors were presented at Tahoma National Cemetery, Thursday, April 12, 2001.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Assocation.

Morris (Marinus) Oosterwyk

Morris (Marinus) Oosterwyk, 74, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 12, 2001 from his home in Marysville.

Morris was born November 17, 1926 in Boskoop, The Netherlands to Dirk and Margje (deRooij) Oosterwyk. Morris served in the Royal Dutch Marine Corps. He has lived in Snohomish County for the past forty one years coming from Toronto, Canada. Morris was a member of Cascade Christian Reformed Church of Marysville. He also held the office of Elder in the church. Morris was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and fishing for steelhead.

Morris leaves his beloved wife of fifty years, Betty at home; two beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Marianne (Jim) Bowie of Marysville WA and Betty Ann (Mark) Palmore of Federal Way WA; four very precious grandchildren, Natalie and Robb Bowie and Taylor and Brittney Palmore; three brothers, Gerald of Marysville WA, Dirk and wife Wilma of Arizona and John and Joan of North Carolina; and one sister Tonia Jongejan of Everett.

A Memorial Service will be held at Cascade Christian Reformed Church of Marysville on Monday, April 16, 2001 at 12:00pm with Pastor Tim Toeset officiating.

Memorial contributions may be given in Morris' memory to the Cascade Christian Reformed Church of Marysville.

Service and arrangements are under the direction of Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, Marysville.

James B. Watt

James B. Watt, born January 22, 1941, died March 31, 2001 in Reno, NV.

He leaves his loving family: wife, Angie; daughter, Suzanne and husband Dean; son, Pete and wife Lisa; granddauther, Sarah; brother, William; sisters, Annette and Katherine and their families. He also leaves some special friends: Mike, Dale, Gary, Walt and Kathy.

In death as in life, Jim has no boundries. He was loved and admired by all who met him.

The family wishes to thank all who have shared in our sorrow and for their kind deeds and words concerning our loss of Jim.

Dawn B. Weihermiller

Dawn B. Weihermiller passed on at the age of 83 on April 6, 2001.

She was born in Seattle, WA, September 4, 1917 to George S. and Beatrice T. Carlson. Dawn attended Everett schools and graduated from Everett High School in 1935.

After living most of her life in Washington, her affinity for the desert southwest took Dawn and her husband, Wayne Weihermiller, to Payson, AZ, an area which held a special place in her heart. She spent the last ten years of her life traveling throughout the high country and Sonoran Desert while living in the "Dream Home" she designed. Her social activities included many cross country trips in classic car clubs with their Cords and an Auburn Speedster. These events were enjoyed by both and fond memories remain with her husband and family. Dawn was a member of Eastern Star and Mother Singers.

Dawn is survived by her husband, Wayne Weihermiller; daughters Nadya D. Fadeff and Nikolette B. Fadeff of Everett; son Justin G. Fadeff of Tuscon, AZ; sister Gloria Gay of Lake Stevens WA; grandchildren Craig A. (Chylene) Leder, Paul A. (Jodi) Leder, Vanessa, David and Rebecca Fadeff; four great-grandchildren; four step daughters; two nieces; and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by grandson, Troy A. Leder.

Upon request there will be no funeral service. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

Mary Bertha (Kissinger) Wiley

Mary Bertha (Kissinger) Wiley, 80, of Marysville, died April 12, 2001.

She was born April 18, 1920 in Marysville, WA to George and Myra (Wood) Lauck. Lauck Road in Marysville is named after the Lauck's original homestead, founded by Mary's grandfather, William Lauck.

Mary is survived by children, Marjorie Shankle, Robert Eugene and wife Betty Kissinger, Charles and wife Joann Kissinger, Terry Mark and wife Kandy Kissinger; brother James C. Lauck; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband, Jesse Willis Kissinger; son, Larry Lee; sister, Irene Hamlin; brother, George William Lauck; and granddaughter, Dana Jo.

A time of visitation will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2001, 4:00-8:00pm at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Wednesday April 18, 2001, 11:00am at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Children's Hospital, P.O. Box C-5371, Seattle, WA 98105.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home.

Dwey M. Barns

Memorial Services will be held for Dwey M. Barns on June 14, 2001, 1:00pm in Sonnette Montana followed by the scattering of his ashes at the Little Big Horn Battlefield, 5:00pm, Hardin, Montana .

Hursle C. Bratcher, Jr.

On May 31, 2001 Hursle Coleman Bratcher, Jr. of Lake Stevens lost his long, courageous battle with emphysema. He left his silent suffering behind in this world to join his parents Hursle and Onie Bratcher, sister Francis Misz, and other loved ones at the Lord's table.

He is survived by wife Cheryl Bratcher; daughter Lori, husband Dwayne and grandson Craig Bailey; daughter Shelly, husband Robert, and granddaughters Melyssa and Kelsey Salsgiver.

He was born January 14, 1935 in Shamrock, TX. He graduated from San Fernando High School in 1953 to join the U.S. Navy where he served as part of the Navy Seabees from 1953 to 1957. He married his friend and wife of 42 years, Cheryl Raye Motter, in 1958.

Hursle enjoyed many outdoor activities including elk hunting, salmon fishing and serving as master of the grill. During his daughters' childhood he donated countless hours as 4-H horse barn superintendent, the advisory board for Lake Stevens High School FFA and other duties.

A welder by trade he spent time at a number of area shops in his career including 15 years with Western Gear. He retired in 1993 from Snohomish County's Road District.

Hursle's most important contributions were as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to his immediate and extended families - a contribution that will be greatly missed.

Lastly he was a dedicated Mariner's fan. To this end he finally made his long-desired pilgrimage to Mariner's spring training this last year in which may very well be his team's best season. We say goodbye knowing that if the M's go all the way, he will be enjoying the best seat in the house.

Graveside services will be held at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, Everett on Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at 11:00am. Family and friends are invited to share in a celebration of his life at the Granville Grange in Granite Falls immediately following.

In lieu of flowers a donation in Hursle's name may be made to your favorite charity.

Matilda "Bobbi" Jane Costa

Matilda "Bobbie" Jane Costa, 59, of Marysville, passed peacefully from this life on May 24, 2001 in the loving presence of her family.

Bobbi was born on July 1, 1941 in Mangum, OK. She spent her early years in Oklahoma, Oregon and California. She attended Junction City High School in Oregon. On July 14, 1957 she married Manuel "Buzz" Edward Costa at the Navy Training Center and they were stationed in Pearl City, HI. In 1965, they moved to Coupeville when Buzz was transferred to Whidbey Naval Air Station. The family moved to Everett in 1967 and in 1973, made their home on a 40 acre farm in Marysville, WA.

Bobbi, with her husband Buzz, owned "B" Electric, Inc. in Everett from 1978 - 1990. The couple were divorced in 1997.

For several years, Bobbi was a volunteer teaching assistant at the Marysville Christian Academy. In 1976, Bobbi joined Families and Friends of Violent Crime Victims; she served as a volunteer victim advocate, a board member and eventually as the executive director of the organization from 1995 until her passing.

Bobbi was a member of numerous organizations, including: Christian Motorcycle Association, the National Organization for Victim Assistance, the National Center for Victims of Crime, the Washington Coalition of Crime Victim Advocates, the Department of Corrections Victim Council, the Washington State Law and Justice Advisory Council, and the Women's Federation for Peace.

For 25 years Bobbi spent countless hours listening to, and advocating for, victimis of violent crime and parents of murdered children. Her compassion for victims of crime garnered her the KOMO TV Hometown Hero Award in 1994 and numerous other accolades.

Bobbi will be remembered for her tenacity, her strong religious beliefs and her devotion as a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, daughter and friend. She lived the example of turning comapssion into action when she saw the needs of others. Without announcement, she gave all that she had, and without expecting anything in return, she gave us her heart.

Bobbi is survived by her mother Katy Dodson of Oklahoma; sister Mickey LeGerrette and partner Freda Gardner of Vancouver, WA; sister and brother-in-law Patty and Bill Rowe of Oklahoma; sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Veryl Prom of Harrisburg, OR; her three daughters Jeralita Costa, Rietta Costa and Charvette Costa all of Marysville, WA; her six grandchildren Tristan Costa, Tanis Costa, Charisha Costa-Mortensen, Nolan Costa-Mortensen, Rubin Costa-Mortensen, Lekenzie Costa-Mortensen; a little girl who called her Grandma, Serenity Monar; special nieces Donna Gayle, Cindy Jean and Jeri Lynn; and numerous nieces, nephews and a large extended family of friends.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2001 at 2:00pm at the Everett Civic Auditorium, 2415 Colby Avenue, Everett, WA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to the Bobbi Costa Memorial Fund at any Washington Mutual Bank Branch, or to your favorite charity in Bobbi's name.

LeRoy L. Dry

"Our Country is in Mourning" For a Sailor Died Today LeRoy L. Dry, 75, of Marysville, WA died Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at noon, following an automobile/pedestrian accident in Marysville on May 16th when a car struck him while on his "Shop Rider" on the way to the store.

He leaves behind his Beloved wife Louise; along with his sister Doris (Les) Taylor of Everett; brother Rodney (Donna) Dry of Camarillo, CA; sister Sharon Stokes (Chip) of Twisp, WA; four sons Terry (Robyn), Tom (Kathy), Tim (Penny) and Ted (Jodie), all also from Marysville; two step-children, Colleen (John) Lemker of Port Angeles, WA and Mike Maxwell of Ketchican, AK; and his nieces Karen (David) Parker of Everett and Judy Leisure of Port Angeles. He will be missed dearly by his 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren with the 11th on the way and a granddaughter anxiously waiting for him in Heaven. He will be missed by many friends; Ione Dry, Patty and Sivert Joramo, Helen and Whitey Achziger, Red Dalton and Jack Fry, just to name a few.

LeRoy resided at La Terra Estates, a retirement community in Marysville along with many wonderful neighbors whom will all greatly miss his Endearing Spirit.

LeRoy was a veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Indianapolis, and up until 9 years ago, after suffering a stroke was a Tug Boat Captain which took him to many Ports of Call spanning Alaska to the Panama Canal. His life and love was the sea. We loved and will so miss his "Salty Ways".

Services will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Saturday June 9, 2001 at 11:00am with a gathering of family and friends to follow at the Marysville Moose Lodge for lunch and reminiscing.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Childrens Country Home, 14643 N.E. 166th St. Woodinville, WA 98072 would be greatly appreciated.

Craig Randall Gindraux

Craig Randall Gindraux was a kind and wonderful person with a great sense of humor. He was generous in spirit and larger than life. Craig filled the room when he walked in. He was the life and soul of the world around him. He touched many peole and will be missed desperately.

Only 45, Craig died on May 30, 2001 at one of his favorite places, on a scuba diving boat near Blake Island in Puget Sound. An accomplished diver and underwater photographer, Craig, along with his wife Carole, dove all over the world. He loved his family, friends and pets with uncommon devotion and loyalty.

He worked as a Senior Legal Investigator with Bricker, Zakovics, Querin, Thompson & Ritchey in Portland, OR, a law firm that specializes in railroad injury cases. At the firm, Craig was respected for his work and well-liked for his great personality.

Craig was born on March 30, 1956, at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane, WA. He grew up in India, Italy, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Switzerland due to his father's career with TWA. He lived in Spokane for many years and worked there for Burlington Northern Railroad. In 1995 he moved to Camano Island.

He leaves behind his wife Carole Maria Wright of Camano Island; his parents Jules and Emily Gindraux of Hayden Lake, ID; his sister and brother-in-law Karen and David Shill of Spokane; his aunts and uncles Tom and Barbara Miller of Anacortes, Jim Gindraux of Cambria Pines, CA, Jane Sloan of Whidbey Island, and Eleanor Gordon of Coulee City; many, many friends; and his beloved dogs Foster, Betsy, Chelsea and Dusty, his cats Oscar and Emmy and his cockatiel Satchmo.

At Craig's request, there will be no services. A time-of-remembrance gathering to celebrate Craig's life will be sheduled at a later date. Those wishing to make donaitons in his memory may like to send them to GREEN PEACE or NOAH in Stanwood.

Flora I. Hansen

Flora I. Hansen, born on July 20, 1924, passed away on May 29, 2001.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Floyd B. Hansen; and baby son, Fredrick.

She is survived by her children, Raymond Hansen of Shelton, Patrick Hansen of Mountlake Terrace, Jeffery Hansen of Oak Harbor, Bradley Hansen of Oak Harbor, Lorelei Woodbury of Mountlake Terrace, and Natashia Wilson of Covington. Also left behind was her true joy, her grandchildren, Jason, Tabitha, Kristin, Jeremy, Jarid, Ryan, Justin, Sarah, Christopher and Chad. Great-grandchildren are Nicholas and Trent. She also leaves behind hundreds of other children and grandchildren, as she was known to all as Momma or Grandma Flo.

Never was a child so lucky as to have her love. She will be forever missed.

Memorial Service to be held Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at 2:00pm at Purdy & Walters Funeral Home of Lynnwood at Floral Hills Cemetery. For those who would like, Visitation will be all day Tuesday before the funeral service.

Marga Hantel

Margo Hantel, a loving wife, mom and grandmother passed away very unexpectedly on Thursday, May 31, 2001.

She was born September 15, 1928 in Essen, Germany to Martha and Alec Steinhausen.

She came to the United States in 1951, working as a cook at Tilly's Delicatessen in Everett, WA. While working there she met Erich Hantel, her husband of 49.5 years, who refers to her as his "little one". She became a U.S. citizen with her husband in 1958.

Margo was a cook with the Everett Schools for many years, her last school being Cascade High.

She was an avid bowler, belonging to the Women's International Bowling Congress, a member of the 600 Club and the Everett Eagles #13. She also was the luckiest woman when it came to the lotto and playing bingo.

She was preceded in death by her son, Erich "Big E" in 1995.

Marga is survived by her husband, Erich G. Hantel; daughter Doris and (Steve) of Mt. Vernon and their children, Jason and (Elaina) and Dyan; "Big E's" children, Keri and (Doug), Janell, Alex, Lindsee, and their mother, Pam; three sisters Gisela Hefner of Auburn, Siglinde and (Georg) Hoppe, and Waltrud Nawroth, all of Germany; numerous nieces and nephews; and son Mark of Port Orchard and children, Derich and Aja and their mother, Cheryl.

Memorial Service will be held Monday June 4, 2001 at 3:00pm at Purdy & Walters with Cassidy Funeral Home and private inurnment on Tuesday at Cypress Lawn.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Providence General Foundation.

George Jackson

George Jackson died peacefully June 1, 2001 at his Snohomish home.

George was born Gerhard Knubedal to Kristoffer and Anna on February 19, 1920 in Sokndal, Norway. He, along with his parents and sister came by boat to Halifax, Canada on May 24, 1926. From Halifax, they traveled by train to Vancouver, B.C. They arrived in Bellingham, WA on September 14, 1926. They then arrived in Juneau, AK in 1927.

George was raised on an island off of Sitka, AK. He was a commercial fisherman for 73 years, first working with his father and, as a young man, owning and operating his own boat, the "Anna J" and, for many years, "The Haven".

George was preceded in death by a daughter Christine; his brother Chris; his parents; and sisters Joanne and Polly.

He is survived by his wife Catherine; his brother Anton Jackson of Everett; sister Gertie Anderson of Anchorage, AK; daughter Georgette Johnson of Oregon; and sons Chris and George, both of Everett. He leaves his grandchildren, Janelle and Nathan Johnson of Oregon and Jason Jackson of Everett; great-grandson A.J. Johnson of Oregon; and also his step-children Clara Grager of Everett, Alberta Hatampa of Mississippi, Mary Jo Hunstiger of Stanwood and Allen Grager of Snohomish, as well as several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be held Wednesday, June 6th from 9:00am to 1:00pm at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4504 Broadway Avenue, Everett, WA with Funeral Services following at 1:00pm. Pastor Rod Ashley of Snohomish First Assembly officiating.

Many thanks to Dr. Lee and Group Health Hospice for their wonderful care and concern, to John Flynn Cancer Center, and a special thanks to Dick Rodland for being a faithful friend.

Harold W. Jordan

Harold W. Jordan, 74, owner of Marysville Paving, Snohomish, was swept from us in the morning hours of May 28, 2001 and is now paving a golden path to Heaven.

He is survived by his sister, Dolly Jordan; son, Rick (Sarah) Jordan; daughter, Melanie Jordan (Curt) Hecia; daughter, Claire Capriola, Laurie Capriola (Lorenzo) Garay, Cheryl Capriola (Rich) Ward; and their mother, Donna Harvey, wife of many years and constant friend; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; cherished foster son, Ajit (Tina) Shah of New Dehi, India; Foreman Dick Irby; Managers Ragene and Larry Kimsey; and many dear friends.

He was born July 13, 1926 to Susie and Walter Jordan, and along with three siblings, was raised in Renton, WA where due to necessity, he learned the rewards of hard work, resourcefulness, and self reliance. At 17, he joined the Marines, 3rd Div., 21st Inf., K Co. and saw action on both Guam and Iwo Jima. Wounded several times, he was a Purple Heart recipient.

Returning to Renton after the war, he started Jordan Taxi Service. Not content with just one business, he partnered with Mr. Hardenburg, learned about aggregates, and started Issaquah Sand & Gravel which he owned and operated successfully for many years. In the early 1970's, he moved to Snohomish purchasing Marysville Paving where he has served the community in a variety of ways. Not only paving streets, parking lots, and driveways, he joined the Lions Club, became a member of the Snohomish Chamber of Commerce where he was named Citizen of the Year in 1993, and won several National Awards for Community Service from NAPA.

Known for his direct approach, unbridled enthusiasm, and brilliant smile, he charmed, cajoled, and persuaded citizens and elected officials to dedicate time and money to community projects such as the Snohomish Downtown Restrooms, the River Walk, Pocket Parks, Parking Lots, Baseball Fields, Fountains, and many other projects.

Public Military Burial, 2:00pm, June 6, 2001 at G.A.R. Cemetery, Snohomish, WA, and Public Memorial Service, 4:00pm, June 6, 2001 at Snohomish High School PAC Auditorium.
