Lawrence (Larry) Edward Louck

Lawrence (Larry) Edward Louck, 88, quietly passed away at his home in Sedro-Woolley on Friday May 25, 2001 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on November 26, 1912 on a farm in Morley, MI, the son of Charles E. and Fern van Auken Louck. After graduating from high school in 1929 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC's). In 1935 he set out by steamer to the frontier of Alaska. There he did various jobs and was involved in the early bush piloting era.

Larry met his future wife Betty Ann May in Michigan in 1933 and they were married on June 2, 1937 in Bremerton, WA. They left immediately by steamship to Juneau, AK where they lived for three years. Larry loved hiking in the rugged terrain of S.E. Alaska. Through the years they made their homes in Michigan, California and once again Alaska. They finally settled in Mountlake Terrace, WA in 1952 where they raised their four daughters.

Larry worked for Continental Motors in the early years, then as an airplane engine mechanic for Pacific Northern Airlines at Boeing Field. In 1967 he returned to Teledyne Continental Motors as an airplane accident investigator with his territory being the Western U.S. He retired in 1975. Larry and Betty have made Sedro-Woolley, WA their home for the past two years.

Larry was an upright, honest and humble man who worked hard his entire life. He had high expectations of himself. His wife and daughters were the most important things in the world to him, and he worked hard at instilling honesty, integrity and hard work ethics into his children and grandchildren. He was a self-taught man, knowledgeable in countless subjects. Anyone who talked to him walked away having learned something from his storehouse of information. He was interested in all people and cultures. His love of reading and learning never ceased.

He is survived by his loving wife Betty. Their 65th wedding anniversary will be on June 2, 2001. He is also survived by his daughters Judith (Dave) Hopkins of Arlington, WA, Jeanne (Chris) Skeels of Sedro-Woolley, WA, Janet (Jim) Castona of Lynnwood, WA and Julie (Jan) Koetje of Gig Harbor, WA; 14 grandchildren Wendi (Hopkins) Gillespie, Jim and Marc Erickson, Sean and Jon Taschner, Sara (Taschner) van de Poel, Loren and Sage Skeels, Benjamin and Rebekah McKinney, Nicholas and Kelsi Castona, and Joshuah and Jacob Harrison; 5 great-grandchildren, Jacob Taschner, Emily and Alyssa Erickson and Alex and Saskia van de Poel; his older sister, Doris in Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother Donald; sister Alyce; brother Robert and granddaughter Tammi Hopkins in 1991.

The family suggests memorials to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Washington Chapter, 100 E. Harrison, No. Tower, #510, Seattle, WA 98199, the N.W. Kidney Foundation, P.O. Box 3035, Seattle, WA 98114 or Skagit Hospice, 1971 Hospital Drive, Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284. These charities were all very important to him.

Larry has now journeyed home to his loving Heavenly Father. His wife will take his ashes to his beloved Kauai, Hawaii.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, June 6, 2001 at 11:00am at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley. Rosalie Robles of the Federation of Christian Ministries in Mount Vernon officiating.

Margaret Bryan Loveland

1914-2001

True to her innate sense of timing (often witnessed later in her golf swing), Margaret Bryan entered this world in Pocatello, ID on September 3, 1914, appropriately enough as a Labor Day baby. With that same sense of uncanny timing, she left us on May 28, 2001, Memorial Day.

Prior to her marriage to Russell Loveland, she attended Northwestern University and the University of Michigan and earned her degree as a dietitian in Home Economics from Cornell University. Following their marriage Peg and Russ lived primarily in Everett, WA and the San Francisco Bay area of California, eventually returning to Mukilteo in 1964.

In her earlier years, Peg was active with her children's scouting adventures. She also taught square dancing and folk dancing. Peg and Russ traveled throughout the San Juan Islands on their boat. They also toured different countries in Europe. After Russ died in 1972, Peg was proud of being in one of the first groups of U.S. citizens to tour Mainland China.

Peg regularly played golf at Everett Golf and Country Club, where she served as captain of the Women's Division amongst other offices. She enjoyed playing both party and duplicate bridge. She took a great interest in Chapter AL, and was a proud P.E.O. member for more than fifty years.

Peg was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. She leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, Chet and Linda Loveland of Discovery Bay, CA and her daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Giles Shepherd of Everett, WA. She was a caring grandmother of Lisa Corriea, Robyn Burton, Kelly Schlichtmann, Geoffrey Shepherd and Kate Carter and a loving great-grandmother of Stephanie, Cody, Jacob, Shelby, Tyler, Carly and Gillian Margaret. Additionally she leaves behind her much-loved pets, Beaujolais and Jazz.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Providence Hospital, Colby Campus and the Harbour Pointe Retirement Center.

Please remember her by donating to Planned Parenthood or your favorite charities in her name.
