Morrine Bradford

Morrine Bradford, 59, of Lakewood, WA, passed away on October 6, 2003 at a local hospital.

Morrine was born on October 10, 1943 in Arlington, WA. She was a member of the Arlington High School Class of 1960.

Morrine is survived by her husband, Dennis; daughter and husband Sarah and Todd Wiggen; mother, Eula Torske; brothers and wives, Bill and Betty Critchfield and Bob and Lillian Critchfield; many nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her father, Morris Torske.

Morrine enjoyed her family, being with people and traveling around the northwest with her husband.

Visitation will be at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, Marysville on Friday, October 10, 2003 from 12:00-1:00pm.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, October 10, 2003 at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home. Burial at Marysville Cemetery will follow at 2:00pm.

Neil Ralph Tronsrud

Neil Ralph Tronsrud, 78 of Arlington, died October 2, 2003 in Everett after an extended battle with leukemia. Neil was born November 21, 1924 at Snohomish, to Ralph and Fern (Lancaster) Tronsrud.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30pm on Wednesday at the G.A.R. Cemetery in Snohomish. It is requested that remembrances be made to Sarvie Wildlife Center, PO Box 2083, Everett, WA 98203-0083.

Lillian B. (Short) Gaffney

Lillian B. (Short) Gaffney, 78, of Everett, passed away peacefully at home on October 3, 2003 after an extended illness.

She was born on June 14, 1925 in New Rockford, ND. Lillian was raised in Carrington, ND where she enjoyed life before moving to Everett in 1953. She married John. T. Gaffney in Carringotn, ND on January 23, 1947. They celebrated 52 years of marriage prior to John's passing in November, 1999.

Lillian's greatest joy in life was her family. She loved to spend as much time as possible with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren supporting them and attending many of their events throughout her life. The compassion, strength and strong sense of family that she has instilled in us will sustain us through this difficult time. Mom, we love you and will miss you tremendously, but we know that you are with Dad and will be watching over us.

Lillian is survived by her children, Tom and wife Sue, Jim and wife Jan, Pete and wife Tonnee, Mike and wife Shari, Mary Ellen and husband Gary Wall, Becky and husband Jeff Hilen, Barb and husband Dave Wetzel, Debbie and husband Ken Shewfelt, and Linda Certain; 27 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband John T. Gaffney; parents Orian and Jennie Short; and sister Betty Solberg.

Her family will always remember her kind heart, quick wit and her smile and are forever grateful for her unconditional love.

We want to thank Dr. Yuen, Dr. Huang, Dr. Vandree, Dr. DeFrang, the entire staff and residences at Arbor Place for their support and friendship, and a dear family friend, Maribeth Woodall, from Hospice of Snohomish County.

Viewing will be held from 10:00am until 8:00pm on Wednesday, October 8th, at Purdy & Walters with Cassidy Funeral Home, Everett. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 9:30am on Thursday, October 9th at Immaculate Conception Church, 2501 Hoyt Ave., Everett with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00am.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Snohomish County, Immaculate Conception School or the Everett Boys and Girls Club.

Olive Kathryn Maurstad

Olive Kathyrn Maurstad ,passed away peacefully on October 6, 2003 at Regency Care Center in Arlington with her family nearby. Olive was born on Happy Valley in Silvana on November 2, 1922 to Mabel and Martin Stensen. Her parents were both pioneers in the Arlington area, making Olive a 3rd generation pioneer in the Arlington area. Martin Stensens family settled in Happy Valley and Mabels family at Island Crossing. Olive grew up in Arlington, graduated from Arlington High School and later moved to Seattle.

Her husband, Orville "Tut" Maurstad whom she married in 1944 at the Little White Church on the Hill in Silvana where Olive was also baptized, precedes Olive in death.

Olive and Tut built the Chevron Station at Island Crossing which they ran for 10 years. She worked for Boeing during World War II and then retired from Twin City Foods in Stanwood in 1984.

Olive is survived by her son Gary Maurstad and wife Kathy of Everett, daughter Carol Maurstad of Arlington, granddaughter Kristal Maurstad and husband Warren of Seattle, granddaughter Jennifer Maurstad and husband Robb of Arlington, nephew Marvin Vognild of Everett, brother-in-law Richard Maurstad and wife Martha of Clarkston, sister-in-law Clara Schenberg of California, brother-in-law Peter Henning of Bellevue and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Olive was a 50-year member of the Daughters of Norway Camilla Collett lodge of Silvana and a recent member of the Sons of Norway in Silvana. She was also a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church in Silvana and was involved in many activities and committees. Olive and Tut were respected members of the Arlington community and served as grand marshals in the 4th of July Parade in 1994. Olive recently attended the Arlington all school reunion as a member of the class of 1940.

Olive and her late husband Tut lived a fulfilling life and enjoyed traveling, attending Husky football games, and spending time with their family and numerous friends. Olive truly loved and appreciated her family and reminded us often of the love she felt for us. She often commented on how she had been blessed throughout her life but it was we, her family, who has been blessed by her love. Olive was dear to so many people and will be remembered for her sense of humor, outgoing personality, charm, and warmth. We will all miss her but take peace in the knowledge that she has joined her beloved Tut.

A graveside service will be held Friday, October 10, 2003 at 3:30 PM at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Silvana followed by a memorial service at Peace Lutheran Church at 4:00 PM.

Visitation: Thursday 10 - 8:00PM at Weller Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church in Silvana and the Stillaguamish Valley Pioneer Association Arlington, WA.

Arrangement entrusted to Weller Funeral Home, Arlington.

Pauline Wells

Pauline Wells, born August 29, 1914 in Dexter, NM to William Brashler and Carrie Kazen Brashler, died in Tucson, AZ on September 27, 2003.

As a young girl, she moved to Washington State with her parents and lived in the Arlington and Marysville areas until moving to Green Valley, AZ in 1995. She was married to Bion O. Wells, who predeceased her in in 1981. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Everett, WA.

Pauline is survived by a son, William L. (Mary) Wells of Dousman, WI and Green Valley, AZ; a daughter, Marianne (Richard) Lathrop of Spokane, WA; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Wells, William L. Wells, Jr., Mark Wells, Richard Lathrop, Jr. and Laura Cummings; seven great grandchildren; and her brother William Brashler.

One granddaughter, Marissa Lathrop, predeceased her.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home in Marysville on October 11th at 11:00am, with the Rev. Allan Love officiating.

Ralph K. Robinson

Ralph K. Robinson, 91, of Everett, WA, passed away October 5, 2003.

He was born February 3, 1912, living in Everett all his life, residing in the Lowell area for the last 54 years. Ralph worked on the Alaska Highway in 1942. He was a veteran of WWII serving from 1943 until 1946. He retired at the age of 71 from Garka Mill. He was a past member of the Pinehurst Sportsmen's Club, and a life member of the Snohomish Sportsmen's Club. He served as Secretary Treasurer for the Snohomish County Sportsmen's Club for over 30 years. He received the Sportsman of the Year aware in 1962.

Ralph is survived by his son James of Otis Orchards, WA; and a daughter Carol of Everett; grandchildren, Ryna of Spokane and Forrest of Hawaii; a special friend and neighbor Ann Lawrence; and the best caregivers in the world, Carolyn Castillo, Laura Palmer and Bessie Davis.

He was preceded in death by his wife Irene; and his brothers, Clyde, Verne and Glenn.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at Solie Funeral Home, 3301 Colby Ave, Everett. Visitation will be at Solie Funeral Home from 1:00pm until the time of the service on Wednesday. Interment will take place at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park.

Memorial Contributions can be made to the Snohomish County Sportsmen's Association, 6410 99th Ave SE, Snohomish, 98290.

Betty Jo Sutton

Betty Jo Sutton passed away Monday, October 6, 2003 after a long illness, surrounded by her family.

Betty was born November 27, 1930 to Rellman and Alice McCroskey in Milner, Colorado. She lived in Mountlake Terrace for 53 years, where she and her former husband, Bob, raised their family. She enjoyed sewing, bowling, fishing and camping in her younger years, and later loved to shop for antiques and collectibles.

Betty is survived by her former husband, Bob; and her children, Mike (Kathi) of Maltby, Dan (Shelley) of Arlington, and Terri Withers (Rob) of Arlington. She leaves seven grandchildren, Vasheti, Jared, Andrea, Ryan, Annie Rose, Gunner and Taylor; and two great-grandchildren, Stephan and Chloe. She also leaves a friend, John; and her dear little dog, Sadie.

There will be an Open House at the family home in Mountlake Terrace on Saturday, October 11th from 2:00-5:00pm. Contact Kathi @ 425-485-3773

Daisy L. Kelley

Daisy L. Kelley, age 73, born November 2, 1929 in Charleston, SC, passed away October 7, 2003 in Edmonds, WA.

She leaves her loving husband, Carlyn; daughter, Nancy Crockett; granddaughter, Marylee; grandsons, Jaun, Ron and Jason; her son, Tom Haney; and several great-grandchildren.

"Her love and her laughter will always be with us".

Visitation Friday, October 10, 2003, 9:30am to 4:30pm.

Funeral Service Saturday, October 11, 2003 at 2:00pm, both at Purdy & Walters @ Floral Hills.

Daniel Roy Becker

Daniel Roy Becker, 43, formerly of Marysville, died on October 5, 2003 in Molalla, OR.

Daniel Roy Becker was born in Vancouver, WA on January 12, 1960 to Gary and Holly Schacher. Daniel graduated from Park Rose High School in Portland, OR in 1978. He attended Everett Community College. On June 20, 1981 in Arlington, WA he married Katherine Wentz. They were married for 22 years. Daniel had lived in Molalla, OR for 12 years. Daniel belonged to the National Rifle Association for 20 years and the American Welding Society for eight years. Daniel was an outdoorsman who loved hunting, camping and fishing with his family and friends. He will live in their hearts forever.

Survivors include his wife, Katy Becker of Molalla, OR; a son, ET3 Becker, Scott and his wife Stephanie and his grandson Justine Paul Becker of Grapeview, WA; two daughters, Marissa Becker of La Grand, OR and Jillian Becker of Caldwell, ID; his parents Gary and Holly Schracher of Oregon City, OR; and a brother Timothy Waterman of Seattle, WA.

A memorial service will be held on October 11, 2003 at 2:00pm at Molalla Funeral Chapel, Molalla, OR.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Desmond F. Hinds

Desmond F. Hinds, 83, of Snohomish, WA, passed away in Everett, WA October 7, 2003 after a brief battle with bone cancer.

He was born in Sedro Woolley, WA on November 2, 1919 to Lillie V. (Goshorn) and Horace H. Hinds. He married Virginia C. Brossard on May 31, 1939 and celebrated their 64th anniversary this year. Des lived most of his, near 84, years on Dubuque Road, Snohomish, the area where he grew up, resided with his wife, and raised three daughters. In his youth he was part of the CCC building trails and fighting forest fires in the Northwest. A third generation logger he owned and operated his own business, was a partner in the Diamond Circle S Mill located at Lake Roesiger, and in semi-retirement he contracted as a dozer operator clearing land. His immense love of the outdoors took him and Virginia hunting, fishing, and collecting rocks and gemstones throughout the Northwest states, Alaska and Canada. Their vast rock and gem collection was donated and is on display at the Rice N.W. Museum of Rocks & Minerals in Hillsboro, OR.

Desmond is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia; daughters, Gloria (Glen) Hacker of Mexico, Nita (Denny) Gilfillan of Chelan, and Bev Hinds of Snohomish; grandchildren, Gregg Hacker, Gary Hacker, April (Rick) Carlson, Michelle Gilfillan, Laina (Curt) Christianson, and Alan (Carrie) Davis; seven great grandchildren; sisters, Julia (William) Shaffer and Gay (Bud) McAlister; aunt Fern Goshorn; and 15 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie and Horace Hinds; sisters, Pearl Wolk and Joyce Ryner; brother Rolland Hinds; and one nephew.

No services at his request.

Arrangements are under the direction of Purdy & Walters with Dawson in Snohomish.

Dino J. Boitano

Dino J. Boitano, 68, of Snohomish, WA, died September 18, 2003.

Private burial was at G.A.R. Cemetery.

Arrangements by Bauer Funeral Chapel, Snohomish.

Earl Allen Hodges

Master Chief Earl Allen Hodges, USN (Ret) of Oak Harbor, died October 4, 2003 from lung cancer.

He was born on March 31, 1924 in Kansas City, Kansas and was a veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

He is survived by Mary Jo, his wife of 47 years; four children; and four grandchildren.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on September 21, 1942. During WWII he trained as a rear gunner for the TBF Avenger, flew on anti-submarine patrols in blimps over the North Atlantic and, in 1945, joined Underwater Demolitions Team 28, which trained for the invasion of Japan. Demobilized after WWII, he did not find his niche in civilian life and went back into the Navy during the Korean War. In 1954, he met Mary Jo Rockwood in Kansas City. They were married in 1956. In 1959, he was stationed at NAS Whidbey, where he served until retirement in 1972.

In the 70's he did home remodeling and repair jobs around Whidbey Island. In 1982 he finished the college degree that was interrupted in WWII. He then worked with New Leaf, arranging and supervising outdoor jobs for disabled adults. In the late 80's he taught computer science at Skagit Valley College in Langley.

Earl and Mary Jo traveled widely, developing a circle of friends who will miss his stories, his laughter, and his entertaining views of life, politics and the human condition. He had recently become a member of the UDT-SEALS Association, which helped him contact shipmates from UDT 28, providing a fitting closure for his WWII years. The family asks that his friends remember him by lifting their glasses in a toast to a life well lived, his service to family and country, and to the passing of this remarkable man.

Memorial Services will be held at the Oak Harbor St. Stephen's Episcopal Church on Saturday, October 11, 2003 at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that remembrances be directed to the Salvation Army.

Elsie H. Davison

Elsie H. Davison passed away September 24, 2003 at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland, WA.

The Memorial Service will be held at the Florence Henry Memorial Chapel in the Highlands (enter off 3rd Ave. NW and NW 145th St.) on Saturday, October 11, 2003 at 1:00pm.

Arrangements are under the direction of Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, Lynnwood.

Francess Ann Larson

Francess Ann Larson, beloved wife of Verner C. Larson and dear friend passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5th, 2003 in Marysville, WA. Born June 8, 1949 in West Virginia, she blessed and touched all that knew her.

Graduating from Long Beach Polytechnie High School in Long Beach, CA in 1967, Frannie soon after moved to Seattle where she spent her career working as a Customer Service Professional in both the utilities and telecommunications industries.

Frannie was survived by her mother, Willadene Copeland of Long Beach, CA., and three brothers-in-law and wives, Gary B. and Marilyn Larson, Randall L. and Peggy Larson and Herb W. (Benjamin) Larson.

Memorial with family and friends will be held at the Vern's residence in Marysville, WA at 1pm on Saturday, October 11th.

Gust Dorr

Oct. 19, 1920 - Oct. 6, 2003
Gust Dorr, 82 of Everett WA passed away peacefully at his home with loving family members by his side.

Gust was born in Gackle, ND on October 19, 1920. He resided in the Gackle area until fall of 1965 when he and his family moved to Everett, WA. Gus was employed in construction business until his retirement in 1985.

He enjoyed his family, yard, and working with his red dump truck. Gus loved making wood crafts and sharing them with others. His garage was a favorite hangout for friends and neighborhood children needing bike and toy repairs. Gust was always willing to help others in need. He will be greatly missed.

Gust leaves behind his loving and caring wife Vi, of 58 years; 3 daughters, Ardyce of Sun Lakes, AZ, Kathy (Dwight) Podoll of Snohomish, WA, Janel (Dac) Wilde of Newport, OR; 5 grandchildren, Amy, Jesse, Matthew, Wendy, and Robyn; 1 great grandchild, Tyler.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 11, at Cedar Cross United Methodist Church in Everett.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Hospice of Snohomish County or the SONshine Society.
