A painter by trade, a friend for keeps, a brother of all brothers and a son with a heart of gold. Teddy, you left us too soon. But you gave us so much...your big personality, spontaneous playful nature, bigger than life smile, and passion for the Raiders. You had a charismatic leadership, an outrageous sense of humor, and undying dreams of stardom. With your caring spirit you taught us and loved us. Teddy we will miss your big heart, your gregarious laugh and we will love you forever.

Garvie Edward Cooper, Sr.

The Cooper boys and our families are saddened at the passing of our father, Garvie Edward Cooper, Sr., age 76, on Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at his Lynnwood home with Paul and Susan Cooper.

He was known as Garvie, Dad, Pop, Grandpa and Poppa to his family, Gary or Gerry to his dear friends and fellow pool players at the Everett Senior Center.

He was a good father, a good friend and a good man. He loved our mother, the late Olive Ellen Cooper, his huge family, all kids (regardless of whose they were). Baseball, music, vintage cars, playing pool and bingo were his entertainment and his family was his passion. He lived an active life despite the debilitating effects of diabetes and COPD. Though hospitalized twice in recent weeks, he had quickly resumed his daily rounds of visits with his friends and family members.

He spent Monday with his friends at the Everett Senior Center and had visited with some of his sons and their families. Tuesday he awoke feeling very ill and visited the doctor. After a restless night, he passed away peacefully at home Wednesday morning while sleeping in his chair.

He was born in Lee County, Virginia on March 20, 1927, the oldest of 10 children of Hubert H. and Ossie Jones Cooper. He married Olive Ellen Beard and was sealed for Time and Eternity in the Seattle Washington Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were the parents of nine sons.

His parents; brothers, H. Eugene and K. Richard; sisters, Annamae and Shirley; his wife and sons, Roy and Andrew; and granddaughter Sarah E. Cooper preceded him in death.

He is survived by brothers, Bobby and Gary; sisters, Jewel, Audrey and Loretta in Indiana, Ohio and Virginia; his seven sons and their wives, Victor (Patsy), David, Paul (Susan), Michael (Julie), Garvie Jr., Arlie (Connie), and Riley, all of Snohomish County. 28 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren also survive him.

As a Snohomish County resident for over 40 years, he was a retired night watchman, mill and factory worker, and served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War era. In his early adult years he was an avid fast pitch softball player on local industrial teams. Later years he coached his sons' teams and was always a loyal fan that would travel great distance for their tournaments to provide enthusiastic support.

He will be greatly missed, as he was greatly loved. His example of kindness and respect to the elderly and children will continue to mark his legacy. Thank God his sufferings were short and his memories are sweet.

Funeral services will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4504 Broadway, Everett, WA on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at 10:00am. Viewing at same location on Monday, November 24, 2003 from 4:00 until 8:00pm.

Hugh J. Steel

Hugh J. Steel passed away serenely November 17, 2003 surrounded by friends and family in the comfort of his home in Everett.

Hugh was born in Liverpool, England on February 1, 1921. He was the oldest child of Joseph and Frances Louisa Steel. Although he had a scholarship for university, he quit school early to care for his mother and three sisters after his father died young. He was working on the docks when war broke out in Europe and finagled his way on to an American merchant ship soon after. He sailed nineteen trips in the convoys during WWII. Hugh discovered the West Coast in the late 1940's and settled in San Francisco where he met and married Shirley Ann Povlsen. Upon retirement from the Sailor's Union of the Pacific in 1975, Hugh opened Divisacto Antiques and devoted the rest of his working life to oriental porcelain and bronzes and 19th century American Paintings. He was well respected for his breadth of knowledge and integrity in both the shipping industry and the art world. We lost a good man - he had class.

Hugh was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Lily Langland of Dundee, Scotland and Margaret Reilly of Liverpool, England; and his beloved nephew, Dr. David Trafford, also of Liverpool. He is survived by his sister Agnes Trafford and a small but devoted family in Britain, Scotland, France and Spain. His chum, Leonard Malliet is greatful to have known Hughie. He leaves behind the love of his life and dearest friend, his only child, Valerie Steel of Everett in whom he instilled his virtuous and compassionate ideals.

He preferred no services, but insisted on a party, so the many family friends will be invited. Great thanks to Doctors Batson and O'Campo and their staff and Group Health Hospice for merciful care and appreciation to Solie Funeral Home for handling the details.

Hugh's final prayer was for peace.
