Velma Weiss

Nov. 3, 1914 - Dec. 6, 2003

Velma left this world a less charming place with her passing at the age of 89 at Everett Providence, Colby.

Born at the start of the Great War to Abner and Stella Cave in Maramec, Pawnee County, OK, she lived a farming life on a homestead granted in the great Oklahoma land rush. Enjoying learning and people her whole life, she married Raymond Weiss in 1931 and stood by his side through the Great Depression and the dust bowl years in Kansas. Their beloved daughter Loretta traveled with them through out the States as Raymond welded on the Second World War efforts at Hanford and post war major construction. Son John joined them and saw the construction of the Saint Lawrence Sea Way and the Rio Grande Project. Although moving often in her 64 years of marriage, the family home was always wherever she was. She delighted in her family and keeping up on the happenings of the wide world. Although she lived through much, she always engaged the world with a smile and had an encouraging word for everyone she encountered.

She was preceded in death by her great grandson Ryan Martin, her husband Raymond Weiss, and her daughter Loretta Watt.

She is survived by her son John (Kathy) Weiss of Kent; son in law Ralph Watt of Everett; grandchildren Sharyl (Stephen) Macomber of Renton, Deborah (William) Twitchell of Everett, Valerie (Terry) Martin of Federal Way, Beverly (Alien) Stinde of Kent, and John David Weiss of Kent; eight great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; extended family in Kansas; and friends too many to count. She will be greatly missed but always thought of with a gentle smile.

Greenwood Memorial at 350 Monroe Ave. N.E., Renton, WA 98056 is in charge of services. Visitation is Wednesday from 12:00noon until 7:00pm; the funeral will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, with interment to follow.

Flowers may be sent or remembrances to the American Diabetes Association.

Arnold Randle Nygaard

Arnold Randle Nygaard, born September 18, 1974, died January 18, 2004.

Arne left us with no warning to be with his grandparents and his Father in heaven. Arne was a good man, a loving son and brother. He was generous, caring and full of fun. He leaves behind his Mom, Dad, Sister, Kellan, his love in this life and his best buddy, Ozzie. Arne will be missed as well by his aunts, uncles, cousins and his many, many friends.

His love and companionship will be dearly missed as he always brought a ray of sunshine with him wherever he went. He loved hiking, camping, and just sitting around hanging out. He wrote songs and performed them with intensity. He loved to play his guitars and the drums. He enjoyed going to concerts, many times with his Mom. His radio controlled race cars were a source of joy to Arne and a source of distress to Ozzie, who is also fearful of cats and leery of coffee cups.

We will gather at the LDS Church, 22015 48th Avenue W. in Mountlake Terrace on Saturday the 31st of January at One O'clock in the afternoon to say goodbye to Arne and share our happiest memories of him. All who wish to come are welcome.

She was born in Missoula, MT on September 23, 1919, and lived 65 years of her life as a restaurateur and businesswoman in the Bothell, Kenmore and Monroe areas. Growing up near Drummond, MT as an only child on the homestead cattle ranch owned by her parents, Harry Eckle and his wife, Ruth, a hat maker by trade, Hazel determined at an early age to have a big family someday. Not only did she succeed in becoming the matriarch of a large clan, she also inspired all who knew her by her keen judgment and insight in the world of business. Hazel studied journalism before migrating west to Seattle in 1938. She found work as a waitress at Bob's Place, one of the legendary roadhouses along the old Bothell Highway in Kenmore. She soon married the restaurant's owner and manager Charles Gaugl and they had three children. Suddenly widowed in 1946, Hazel took over management of Bob's Place on her own. When she remarried in 1948 to Charles Sarvis they jointly managed Bob's Place until the mid-1970s, adding three more children to the family along the way. Most of her children worked in the family business, as well as her father, Harry, after her parents' retirement from the ranch. When Bob's Place was sold and became Mia Roma, Hazel embarked on new careers as owner of the Northshore Montessori Preschool, the Sarvis Estates, and as a real estate entrepreneur. Summers were spent at her beloved beach house on the shores of Lake Chelan, along with family and friends. Her vitality and energy for life never abated. She loved cooking, gardening, sewing, entertaining, interior decorating and traveling.

Later in life, and again a widow, Hazel fell in love with Howard Thomason, a retired forest ranger, and some of the happiest years of her life were spent planning and remodeling their dream ranch in Monroe, complete with several head of cattle.

She is survived by her husband Howard Thomason, six children, four step-children, fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Bob Sarvis, his children Kristen and Scott, his wife Julie Gionet, their daughter Joy and granddaughter Trinity Bueche; Judy Mossman, her husband Doug, and their children Trey, Candice Hattori, and Heilee and their grandchildren Jonah and Tehani Mossman and Cheyenne and Sorrel Hattori; Lois Shelton and her daughters Stephanie and Gabrielle and grandson Oakley Shelton-Thomas; Chris Sarvis, his wife Patti and their daughter Becky Liedberg; Barbara Bollinger, her husband Scott and their children Bobby, Jake, and Holly; and Linda Moser, her husband Randy and their daughters Sydney and Marissa.
