Anna Stormo Owen

Anna Carolina Owen was born October 7, 1923 and died May 11, 2004.

She was born to George and Alma Stormo on the family farm east of Marysville, WA, number seven in a family of 13 children. Anna attended Marysville schools (graduating in 1941), where she played on the girl's traveling baseball team and has been long remembered for her batting ability. She has remained a serious baseball fan. As a teenager Anna worked in Everett and she and sister Margaret registered as U.S.C. Hostesses. It was at the Everett U.S.O. that she met PFC Luverne Owen in August of 1942 and later traveled to Ontario, CA where they married November 18, 1942 in Las Vegas, NV. Anna was an active bowler for many years and a friend to everyone. She worked as a nurse's aide and later at a book bindery until she retired.

She is survived by son Richard (Joanne) Owen of Arlington; daughters, Sharon Kay Owen of Florida, Shirley Ryder of South Dakota, and Sheila (Michael) Bushong of Bellingham; eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; two brothers, Emmet and Sigmund Stormo; two sisters, Jorgina Kearnes of Kenmore and Christine (Don) Lyons of Arlington; and many, many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by husband Luverne Owen in 1978; her parents; three brothers, Elias, Alfred and Leonard Stormo; and five sisters, Inga Bast, Eline Deane, Emma Days, Marie Garren, and Margaret Thompson (May 17, 2004).

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 20, 2004 at 1:00pm at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home in Marysville. Viewing will be held from 11:00am until 12:30pm with burial following at Marysville Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, Marysville, WA.

Billy Lee Hinderman

Billy Lee Hinderman of Marysville died unexpectedly on May 13, 2004.

Bill was born June 10, 1962 in Everett, WA to John and Barb Hinderman. He attended the Marysville School District and graduated from Marysville-Pilchuck in 1980. Bill was always a "chucker" at heart.

After graduation, Bill worked for Biringer Farms and ultimately worked in the communication field with Viacom, TCT, AT&T and Evergreen Utilities.

Bill's passions in life were camping with his girls, trips to Hat Island with the Dockendorfs and the Cruzs, baseball with his "communication" friends, visiting Marty and Jan in Arizona, helping his neighbors, and his biggest passion: cutting trees with his dad.

Bill will be greatly remembered for his contagious smile, his passion for life and for being the perfect family man.

He leaves behind his family: wife and best friend Lesli, daughters; Kelsey, Brandy, Nikki, and Carli. He also leaves behind his mother Barb, brothers: Jerry and Tom (Kathy)….Paul and Ellen Dockendorf, Steve and Sheryl Durick, Chuck and Peggy Cruz, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and his greatest buddy, Harley.

Bill was preceded in death by his father John; grandparents, Richard and Florence Page; and grandma Kate Hinderman.

Viewing will be held from 4:00 until 8:00pm on Tuesday, May 18th and Wednesday at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home. Services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marysville on Thursday, May 20, 2004 at 4:00pm with reception following in the parish hall.

In lieu of flowers, an account has been set up by Crystalite Skylights at Washington Mutual for his daughters.

Services are under the direction of Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home in Marysville.

Charlotte Beryl Snell

Born: June 21, 1919 Alma, Nebraska

Died: May 10, 2004 Stanwood, Washington

Age: 84 Years
Charlotte was preceded in death by her eldest daughter Earlene; her husband Earl; her son-in-law Billy Ayers; and grandson Michael Ayers.

She is survived by her three children, LaDonna Nickels, Karen Ayers and Vernon Snell; her nine grandchildren and their families: Tom Nickels, Sue Nickels, Barb Karanja, Terry Nickels, Jerry Nickels, Troy Snell, Todd Snell, Jenifer Richie, and Kathy Ayers; her 16 great grandchildren: Heather Strom, Ryan Nickels, Kristine Nickels, Brenna Nickels, Aimee Karanja, Stephanie Nickels, Chelsea Nickels, Jenifer Karanja, Katie Nickels, Timothy Karanja, Brandon Nickels, Alyssa Snell, Lillia Snell, Allister Snell, and Spencer Richie; and her great great granddaughter Kylie Strom.

Claudia and Richard Erickson

Claudia and Richard Erickson, of Camano Island, WA, died at their home from natural causes with in hours of each other; Claudia at 8:10pm on Saturday, May 15, 2004 and Richard on Sunday, May 16, 2004 at 6:30am.

Arrangements under the care of Funeral Alternatives of Snohomish County.

Donald E. Martens

Donald E. Martens, born September 13, 1927 in Seattle, WA, passed away on May 12, 2004 at Everett Providence Hospital with his family by his side.

He will be forever missed by Merry, his loving wife of 55 years; daughter Lizabeth (Nick) Zardis; and son Jeffrey (Linda) Martens; his adoring grandchildren Alex, Ashley and Anthony Zardis and Jake Martens; sister Corkee (Cal) Nerdrum and brother Gary (Karen) Martens and their families.

Don was preceded in death by brother Bernard.

After graduating from Ballard High School in 1945, he served two years in the U.S. Army, followed by 44 years at Salmon Bay Sand and Gravel. Don was a lifetime member of the Ballard Elks #827 and was a member of Camaloch Golf Course. He enjoyed playing golf, pheasant hunting and telling a good story. He will be truly missed by those fortunate enough to have known him.

No services at his request but a gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2004 from 2:00 until 6:00pm at the Ballard Elks, 6411 Seaview Ave N.W. Seattle, WA.

Remembrances may be made to a charity of your choice.

Cremation under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood, WA.

Elizabeth M. (Murray) Estrada

Elizabeth M. (Murray) Estrada, 41, of Everett, WA, went to be with our Lord in heaven on April 3, 2004.

Beth was born February 1, 1963 in Moses Lake, WA the daughter of Roy and Mary Murray and lived in Everett. She graduated 'class of 81' from Everett High. Beth then went on to become a Registered Nurse. She was very giving and caring to everyone she knew.

Beth is survived by her three daughters, Tonya and her husband Larry, Carmen, and Chavon; and her three grandchildren Bessie, Pati, and Giovanni. She will be missed by her many friends whose hearts she touched.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, May 22nd at Delta Baptist Church, 2901 16th St, Everett. Following the service the family invites all who knew Beth to join them in the reception hall for a time of sharing.

In lieu of flowers the family has set aside a fund to purchase a Memorial Plaque for Beth.

Gertrude (Schwartz) Ruchin

Gertrude (Schwartz) Ruchin of Boca Raton, FL, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2004 after a long battle with multiple diseases.

She was born August 8, 1921 in Hartford, CN. She was very active in Veterans Affairs, most notably serving as Connecticut State President of the Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary. For many years she has been an antique trader/dealer, buying and selling articles, showing at antique shows, flea markets and other similar venues in South Florida and around the country.

The focus of Gertrude's life was life with her family and friends. With a life-long reputation for care and concern for others, the many people whose lives she has impacted will miss Gertrude's presence.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Morris Ruchin; sons, Earl Ruchin of Lowell, MA and Garth Ruchin of Snohomish, WA; and grandchildren, Todd Ruchin and Matthew Ruchin, both of Snohomish, and Scott Ruchin of Enfield, CN.

In lieu of flowers or other articles, it is the wish of the family that donations be made to Hospice by the Sea, 1531 W. Palmetto Park Road, Boca Raton, FL 33486.

A memorial service will be held at the Weiss Funeral Chapel, Boynton Beach, FL on May 18th at 3:30pm.

A three-day memorial period will be held at the home of Morris Ruchin.

Harry L. Immer

Harry L. Immer, beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and a friend to all, died at home on Camano Island on May 14, 2004, on this date, their 38th wedding anniversary.

He is lamented by his loving wife Esther. Survivors also include his mother Lucille Roth; two daughters, Darlaina Immer Dame and Charmaine Immer; two sons, Ron Immer of Hawaii, and Chris and Tammy Immer of Machias, WA; two sisters, Patsy and Don Anderson of Amery, WI and Yoland and Larry Urquehart of La Ronge, Saskatchewan; grandchildren, Ron II and Katrina Immer, Austin Dame, Eric and Emily Inuner; and many nieces and nephews, who will all miss him.

He was born in St. Paul, MN February 4, 1939, the son of Lucille and his beloved dad, Walter Roth. He graduated from Harding High School in St. Paul, went to community college and served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard for 22 years. He was a mustang and graduated from Officer Candidate School in 1965 (Recruiter). He served on many buoy tenders, as well as shore stations including Security Officer at the United States Coast Guard Academy search and rescue ships and Coast Guard Fishery Patrols. His last tour of duty was as a Training Officer at the USCG Institute in Oklahoma City, OK when he retired. Next to his family, the Coast Guard was his first love.

After retirement from the Coast Guard, he and his family moved to Camano Island where they built their home. And he made many friends over the years in Real Estate Sales on Camano Island.

A graveside Military Funeral will be held at the Camano Lutheran Church Cemetery on May 19, 2004 at 1:00pm. A celebration of Harry's life for friends and family will follow the service at the Immer residence at 1348 S.W. Camano Drive on Camano Island. He will be sorely missed by family and friends.

Jule P. Van Der Meersche

Life-long Everett resident, Jule P. Van Der Meersche, went peacefully to be with the Lord on May 15, 2004, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Everett, January 4, 1921 and attended Everett High School graduating in 1941. Jule married Bessie Harrison in 1940 and together they had three children.

He was an avid outdoorsman and, especially, loved fishing, spending many long happy hours on his beloved boat, "The Flemish Giant." Jule was a Democrat all his life and worked very hard for his Party. He worked at Simpson Lee for years and was the manager of the Snohomish County Parking Garage until his retirement. Jule was a member of the Evergreen State Fair Board and every August was a fixture at the fair in Monroe. He was a lifelong member of the Everett Eagles attending Aire #13. Jule was also very active in the Lowell Neighborhood Association.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bessie; his parents, Prosper and Celine; a twin sister Julie; step-mother Marie; and his brother Roy.

Jule is survived by his sons, Bert and his wife Ann of Everett, Roy and his wife Linda of Dewey, AZ; daughter Linda and her husband Dick Lachapelle of Everett; five grandchildren, Barry, Jeff, Kevin, Mike and Brad; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister Alice.

The family wants to thank Puget Sound Kidney Center, Dr. Christian Schmitt and his staff, and the third floor staff at Bethany for their loving care and everyone who came to see him while he resided at Bethany.

Memorials may be sent to the Everett Puget Sound Kidney Center.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 20th from 4:00 until 8:00pm at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4504 Broadway, Everett. A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on May 21st at Evergreen Funeral Home with private family entombment following at Evergreen Cemetery.

Lawrence (Larry) Ronald Otterson

Lawrence (Larry) Ronald Otterson lost his courageous fight with cancer and passed away at his family home in the morning of May 9, 2004.

Born May 21, 1937 in Stanwood, WA, Larry graduated from Twin City High School where he was active in all sports and was all state for two years in basketball. He joined the Navy while just a junior in high school, doing training during the summer months. He went to serve his country after high school as a member of the Navy Seabee's of which he was very proud and shared many stories with his family and friends about his times in Adak, Alaska and Okinawa. He married his high school sweetheart Judy Creighton, in 1959 in Stanwood, and had 42 years of love, laughter and memories, before Judy passed away in 2001.

Larry was a painter for 40 years and operated his own business of Otterson Painting with his partner and son Jr. After retiring Larry continued Judy's Avon Business and loved being with people. He loved to travel, attend school functions and sporting events, fishing, hunting and bowling. He had four perfect 300 games and was inducted into the Bowler's Hall of Fame in 2003. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Elks and Stanwood Eagles #3041 for many years, and a lifetime member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Stanwood.

Larry married Pam Hafner in August of 2002, and they covered many miles traveling and visiting family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Hans and Rose Otterson; brother LeRoy Otterson; and sister Gladys Strand.

Larry is survived by his wife Pam at the family home; son Lawrence, Jr. of Camano Island; daughter Sherrie and husband Roderick Cadman of Sedro Woolley; step-daughter Melody and husband Pat Cottrell of Stanwood; step-son Jeff Hafner of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Hans Perrin, and Jens Perrin; adopted grandchildren, Danielle Fure, Dayna Fure, Darren Redford, Destiny Redford, Derek Hafner, and Tia Hafner; sister Ruby Vaughn and husband Robert and their two sons, Kevin and Mike of Kansas; nephew Ed Strand and wife Mary and their children of Arlington; brother-in-law Jim Creighton of Seattle, along with a multitude of friends who will miss him and cherish their memories of him forever.

A memorial service will be held on May 22, 2004 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Stanwood, WA at 11:00am with a fellowship time to follow.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood, WA.

Mary Almena Bridges

Mary Bridges, of Everett, WA, died April 14, 2004 as peacefully and gently as she lived her life of 98 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Oliver ("B") Bridges; her daughter Betty Lindner; and her son-in-law, Donald Lindner.

Mary is survived by her two grandchildren and their spouses, Sandy and Ed McCormack, Don and Jan Lindner; and three great granddaughters, Molly McCormack, Brianna Lindner and Kylie Lindner.

In lieu of a funeral, there will be a gathering in June of her family and friends to celebrate Mary's long and gentle life.

Patricia Jo-Ann "PJ" Seymour

PJ passed away on May 14, 2004 in Edmonds, WA.

She was born in Vancouver, B.C., Canada on October 21, 1943 to Clarence and Dorothy Seymour. PJ enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She loved spending time and working in her rose garden as well as entertaining and spending time with friends. She was always available to hear and help others with their problems; always putting others before herself. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.

Patricia is survived by her son, James R. Simpson; daughter, Kristine M. Cox; and her grandchildren, Angela, Stephanie, Andrew, Jessica, Cassie, Christopher, Cory, and Courtney; her sister Barbara; and numerous other family members and friends. PJ will always be loved and kept in the hearts of her family and friends.

A Memorial/Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2004 between 2:00 and 6:00pm at the Eagles Club, 19223 Highway 99, Lynnwood, (425) 778-6761.

Robert Melvyn Knight

Robert Melvyn Knight, long-time Weyerhaeuser employee and Ham Radio operator (K7JCI) died May 11, 2004 in Olympia, WA.

He was born April 2, 1926 in Everett, WA to Robert Bradford and Elizabeth Susan (Kuja) Knight. He married Alice L. Earl in Everett on August 1, 1952. The family moved to Elma in 1967.

He is survived by his wife and daughter, Cindy, in Elma; a sister, Lois Miller and nephew, Mark Miller, both of Everett.

At his request, there were no services. Cremation was by American Memorial Association.

Steven J. Thompson

Steven J. Thompson, 45, of Granite Falls, WA, passed away May 13, 2004.

He was born in Kodiak, AK on November 17, 1958 to parents Pearl and Tommy Thompson. Steven loved racing cars and four-wheeling with his wife and daughters.

He is survived by wife, Dodi; and daughters, Sondra and Samantha.

A Graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 18 at 1:00pm at Marysville Cemetery.

Timothy Ferguson

Timothy Ferguson, 45, of Marysville, WA, passed away May 13, 2004.

Born and raised in Washington, Tim graduated from Sedro Woolley High School. After serving his country in the Marines for six years, Tim enjoyed a successful career in medical imaging. He was a much loved and respected son and brother.

He will be missed by his parents, Richard and Alice; and his siblings, Jody, Jeremy, Beth, Laurie, Becky, and Claudia, and their respective families.

He will be remembered at a private memorial service this week.
