Ib Andersen

Sadly, Ib Andersen passed away on July 26, 2004 at Harborview Medical Center.

Ib was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on January 30, 1938. He came to the United States in 1967 and worked as an engineer for Boeing, Western Gear and Nicholson Manufacturing Company for many years.

He enjoyed sailing and was a member of the local sail club and the Royal Danish Yacht Club.

Ib Andersen is survived by his brother Ole Anderson and niece Dorte Tofft.

In accordance with his wishes, he will be laid to rest in an unmarked grave in the Cypress Lawn Memorial Park in Everett, WA.

Jack M. Eiswerth

Jack Eiswerth of Everett, WA died of heart failure on July 28, 2004. He was 65 years old. Jack was born in Colorado Springs, CO, May 13, 1939.

His mother and father were from Wellfleet, NB and Woodland Park, CO, respectively. His family moved from Colorado to Salem, OR in early 1941.

Jack graduated from South Salem High School in 1957. He attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs for two years, 1957 to 1959. He then returned to Oregon where he continued his education at Oregon College of Education earning a B.A. and a Masters Degree. He served in the U.S. Army from September, 1964 to November, 1967. He enjoyed a teaching career at Everett Community College in Everett, WA, for 27 years, retiring in 1994.

Jack was an avid outdoors man, hunting, fishing and camping all of his life in several states from Oregon to Colorado, to Alaska, Montana and California.

Jack was a good son, brother, husband, father, uncle, brother-in-law and friend. He was fun to be around and will be missed by all those fortunate enough to have known him.

He is survived by his wife Mary; son, Bob of MO; daughter, Crystal of MO; and brothers, Dan of Vancouver, WA, and Gene of Evergreen, CO.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bob in 1959, his mother, Lucille in 2003 and his oldest brother, Bob in 2000.

A memorial will be held on Monday, August 2nd at 12:00pm at the First Christian Reformed Church of Everett. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart Association or the Endowment Fund of the First Christian Reformed Church.

Johnathon Erik Hagen

Eagle Scout Johnathon Erik Hagen was taken to be with the Lord on July 29, 2004, after a car accident.

He was born September 8, 1975 in Seattle, WA on his big brother's birthday.

He is survived by his mother, Barbara Dempsey; brothers Kevin Hagen (Theresa), Adam Dempsey and Mark Dempsey; grandparents Glen and Mary Tellefson; nephew, Kelly; and nieces Breanna and Ashlee Hagen; Scout Brothers; extended family; and many friends.

Winter camping seminar has lost a great and proud instructor.

Viewing is Wednesday, August 4, 2004 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm. Graveside services will be held Thursday, August 5, 2004 at 3:00pm at Evergreen Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4504 Broadway, Everett.

Reception to follow.

Josephus "Joe" R. Huhn, Jr.

Josephus "Joe" R. Huhn, Jr., 88, of Anacortes, passed away July 28, 2004.

He was born in Sykesville, PA on November 20, 1915 to parents, Josephus and Lillian Huhn, Sr. Joe graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1939 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. While working at a pharmacy, he met his future wife Betty Roy and they were married in 1940. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a naval officer on the destroyer ship, the U.S.S. Craven. Joe's work took his family to Seattle where they lived for 25 years. He was a pharmaceutical representative for Burroughs Wellcome Company for 30 years.

Betty and Joe moved to Anacortes, WA in 1975. Joe was active in his church and community. He was a charter member of the Anacortes Kiwanis, and a life Master Mason. Joe was loved by many loyal friends. He had a beautiful smile and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Joe loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and camping. Most of all he loved his home in Anacortes and never wanted to leave.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Betty; son, Richard Huhn; and his sister, Virginia Watson.

Joe is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Dennis George of Mill Creek, WA; granddaughter, Jenny George of Everett, WA; great-grandson, Atticus George-Andrijeski of Everett, WA; and brothers, Richard Huhn, Robert Huhn; sister, Jean Thomas; and close relatives, Tom and Shirley Roy, all of Pennsylvania. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, August 6, 2004 at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 2802 Commercial Avenue, Anacortes, WA. A reception will immediately follow at the Skyline Beach Club Cabana.

Memorials may be sent to the Pilgrim Congregational Church or the Anacortes Kiwanis Sunrisers.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel, Anacortes, WA.

Larry G. Freed

Larry G. Freed passed away peacefully at home on July 28, 2004 after a long courageous battle with bladder cancer.

He was born in Loveland, CO on March 5, 1943, moved to Tacoma, WA, and graduated from Stadium High. After four years in the U.S. Coast Guard, Larry served the City of Everett as a Fireman for 13 years. He then worked at the All City Credit Union for 19 plus years.

Larry retired early to enjoy life and spent the past eight years traveling the world with his wife, family and friends. He had a passion for cruise ships where he could relax and indulge in one of his greatest pleasures - eating. He also looked forward to meeting with his 10 o'clock coffee buddies at 41st St. O'Donnell's. Larry was an active community member, coached girls soccer for many years and sponsored his granddaughter's fastpitch team. He was an avid garage sale shopper and collector. Want something, he would find it!!

He is survived by his wife Eileen; children Joe (Beckie), Lorrie (Jim), Victoria, and Jini (Steve); sisters Lynda, Lana, Leta and their families; grandchildren Katie, Cody, Jack, Jamison (Lourie), Amanda, Alexandria, Mikenzie, and Samuel; plus numerous extended grandchildren, great grandchildren and many wonderful friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents M. Louise and Joseph Freed, and his good friend Karl Hofmann.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Larry's life will be held at the Everett Convention center, formally the Yacht Club, on Saturday August 7th at 11:00am.

Remembrances can be sent to Hospice of Snohomish County or the American Cancer Society.

Our thanks to everyone who supported Larry and his family with their love, time and prayers. Larry's warmth and caring personality will be greatly missed as he now embarks on new "fishing adventures" with Karl.

Linda E. Rourke

Linda E. Rourke, age 38 of Lynnwood, WA, passed away July 26, 2004 at home.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday August 5, 2004 at 3:00 PM at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, 804 State Ave., Marysville, WA.

Robert B. Long

Robert B. Long, 82, of Everett, WA died July 30, 2004.

He was a long-time owner of Judd & Black, Inc.

Services to be announced at a later date.

Robert "Bob" P. Nicklos

Robert "Bob" P. Nicklos, 67, passed away after a long illness on July 27, 2004 in Everett, WA.

He was a roofer and siding applicator in Portland, OR before owning and operating Sno-King Construction Company for 29 years.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 and one half years, Beverly; a son, Bill (Kelly) Nicklos of Portland; and a daughter, Brenda Philips of Portland; step-daughters Terry (Bob) Gasperetti of Snohomish, Susie Howell of Marysville, and Debra (Don) Lewis of Bothell; 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sisters Clara Letang and Darlene Langos of Portland, Julie (Vince) Hondl and Donna (Ron) Kavash of Dickinson, ND, and Gracie Parilicek of West Seneca, NY; half-sisters Bonnie (Dennis) Sauvageau of Three Forks, MT, and Mona Ward of Portland; and half-brother, Tim Hust of Vancouver.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 31st from 4:00 until 8:00pm and a Celebration of his life will be held at 11:00am on Monday, August 2nd, both at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4504 Broadway, Everett. The interment will follow on Monday at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, 1615 E. Everett Mall Way, Everett.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent in Bob's memory to the Evergreen Foundation, c/o Booth Gardner, Parkinson's Care Center, 12040 NE 128th St., Kirkland, WA 98034.

Shelia Ann Kimberling-Torres

Shelia Ann Kimberling-Torres, 34, passed away suddenly on July 26, 2004.

Shelia was born on July 10, 1970, in Fayetteville, NC. Although she was raised in the Everett area, she also lived in Alaska and Arkansas. She graduated high school in 1987 and from Everett Community College in 1991. Shelia is survived by her mother, Janice Kimberling of Marysville; her brother, Brian Kimberling (Lori) of Tucson; her father, Mike Kimberling (Christina), of Orlando, FL; her grandmother, Betty Herzog (Larry); her husband, Jesus; and her many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Also surviving her are nieces and nephews Joey, Katie, James and Halie. One very special friend, Dr. Naomi Katsch and family will miss her, as her family does.

A memorial will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at the Glenwood Estates Mobile Home Park at 5900 64th St NE, Marysville, at 4:00pm.

Remembrances in Shelia's name can be made to the Center for Battered Women in Everett.

William H. Steele

William Steele passed away July 23, 2004 in Everett, WA. He was born in Bothell, WA on August 28, 1921.

Surviving are his three children, Patricia of Everett, Cathleen of Marysville, and Michael of Gold Bar; his special friend and devoted companion of 33 years, Lulu; sister Peggy Langley of Memphis, TN; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

A brother, John, preceded him in death in 1988.

A Memorial Mass will be said at St. Mary of the Valley Catholic Church, Monroe, WA on Monday, August 2, 2004 at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Alida Johnson

Alida Johnson, 91, of Everett, died August 1, 2004.

Alida was born January 4, 1913, in St. Hippolyte, Saskatchewan to Jan and Aaltje Peppinck, who had recently moved from Holland. Alida's family moved to the Everett area when she was a young girl, and the entire family became citizens of the United States.

Alida was preceded in death by her husband, Iver M. Johnson; her parents; two older sisters; and two previous husbands.

She is survived by her nephew and niece, Norman Maydole and Sandra Ward; her step-daughter and son-in-law, Geri and Robert Modrell; their children: Robert and his wife, Gail, Catherine, and Thomas; and their five grandchildren: Timothy and Alyssa Modrell, Jessica and Michael Leybourne, and Jonathan Modrell.

The Modrell family was blessed to have Alida as a central figure in their life since her marriage to Iver Johnson in 1982.

In lieu of flowers, please contribute to her favorite causes: Shriners Children's Hospital and the Elks Therapy Program for Children.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10:00am until 5:00pm at Purdy & Walters with Cassidy. Services will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at 1:30pm at Sunrise View Convalescent Home; burial will follow at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, 1615 SE Everett Mall Way, Everett.

Antonio Maltos

A viewing service will be held at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, 804 State Ave., Marysville on Thursday, August 5, 2004 at 2:00 PM followed by Rosary Service at 6:00 PM at Mission of St Anne, 7231 Totem Beach Road, Tulalip. Funeral Mass will be held on 10:00 AM, Friday, August 6, 2004 at St. Anne with burial to follow at Mission Beach Cemetery.

Ava Lois Crouse

Ava L. Crouse, a resident of north Kitsap County for almost 70 years, died in Edmonds July 31, 2004, five days shy of her 96th birthday. She was born August 5, 1908, in Swan, Iowa, the youngest of six children of William G. and Elizabeth (Horning) Hallowell.

She graduated from Roundup (Mont.) High School in 1927, then attended Billings (Mont.) Deaconess Hospital Training School, earning a nursing degree in 1930 before moving to Washington. She was a nurse at the Port Gamble hospital when she met her future husband, Fred Estes Crouse, head machinist at the Port Gamble sawmill. Ava Hallowell and Estes Crouse were wed June 3, 1931, in Stevenson, Wash., beginning a marriage that lasted 57 years, until his death in 1988. They lived in Port Gamble until 1963, when they moved a few miles to a home he built on Hood Canal. She lived there until 1999, then moved to Edmonds to be closer to her family.

Ava was a past matron of Priscilla Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed bowling, camping and fishing.

A son, Freddie, died as an infant in 1932. Ava also was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: William, Wendell, Russell and Leigh Hallowell; and a sister, Mary Gooden.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna (Alf) Eikum, Enumclaw, and Yvonne (Richard) Johnson, Edmonds; five grandchildren: Lynn Zambrano, Big Fork, Mont., Valerie Skaggs, Enumclaw, Kirsten Eikum-Plummer, Bellingham, Brent Johnson, Sammamish, and Wendy Casper, Everett; and six great-grandchildren.

At Ava's request, there will be no services.

Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, University of Washington, Box 358220, Seattle, WA 98195-8220.

Bobby "Bob" R. Holman

Bob R. Holman, age 61 years, passed away on July 31, 2004 at home in Monroe after a 7-month battle with lung cancer.

Bob was born in Sallisaw, Oklahoma on December 31, 1942. From 1960-1964 he served a 4-year tour of duty in the US Army as a member of the 2nd Howitzer Battalion, B Battery, 77th Artillery, stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. He moved to Monroe in 1969 where he joined the Monroe Police Department January 7, 1970. Bob retired as a Sgt. in 1986 after serving the community for seventeen years. He then became a partner in Sky Valley Traders Inc. until January 2004 when his health forced him to retire.

Bob was very active in the community, serving on the Monroe Fire Board for six years, the Monroe City Council for twelve years, and as Mayor of Monroe for seven years from 1997 to 2003. Bob was one of the founding fathers of the Boy's and Girl's Club of Monroe, and was instrumental in the construction of the Monroe Skate Park, as well as many other projects to better the community.

Bob was an avid outdoors man. He loved hunting and fishing. He took many hunting trips to Alaska, Canada, Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico and many other places. For a number of years he wrote a column called "The Local Scoop" keeping local sportsmen apprised of what was happening. He was loved and respected by many people, including family, friends, and the community. Bob brought a number of good changes to the City of Monroe and will be greatly missed by all.

Bob was preceded in death, on December 7, 2003, by his wife of 29 years, Sandra Holman; his parents; and several brothers and sisters. Bob is survived by his sister, Betty Hogan of San Antonio, Texas; and many nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his sons, Dennis (Lena), and Craig; daughter, Sheri Seaward; grandchildren: Cody Holman, Bobbi Seaward, Jennifer Creswell, and Jessica Holman; daughter-in-law, Colleen Holman; and stepson, Jeff Creswell.

Services will be held on Thursday, August 5th at 11:00 a.m. at the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center. Processional and services at graveside will follow. The family invites the community to attend the services.

The family requests no flowers. Gifts or Memorials may be sent to the Monroe Food Bank or the Monroe Police Officers Association Back to School Fund.

Donald Lloyd Crumrine

Donald Lloyd Crumrine joined his long time love, Betty Crumrine, Tuesday July 27, 2004 from the Cascade Valley Hospital.

He was born in Mount Vernon, WA on February 6, 1928. He spent his life doing what he loved such as pile driving, fishing, cooking, traveling, mushroom picking, gardening and farming.

He leaves two brothers, Ron and Dale Crumrine; a sister, Inez; two daughters, Cheryl LaRose and Donna Swanson; one son, Steve Skredsvig; six grandchildren: Wendy, Eric, Leif, Danielle, Romen and Tricia; three great-grandchildren: Samantha, boy, and baby; and best friends John and Lynette.

There will be no services held.

Glen John Hoeye

Glen John Hoeye, 86 of Stanwood, died August 1, 2004.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 4, 2004 in the Chapel of Gilbertson Funeral Home, 27001-88th Avenue N.W. Stanwood. Private Cremation with Inurnment at the Arlington Cemetery.

Arrangements under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood.

Ira Meador Overstreet

Ira Meador Overstreet, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at the age of 98, after a long, happy, healthy and very productive life.

Born on December 10, 1905 in Bedford County, Virginia, Ira's family, came west to the Chehalis area in 1906. It took the Overstreets 2 days by wagon to arrive at their newly purchased 120 acre Swafford Homestead farm, located 5 miles East of Mossyrock. Ira was one of 7 sons who worked with their father and mother on the family farm. Ira graduated from Mossyrock High School in 1926 and continued his educational pursuits at the Ellensburg Normal School where he gained his teaching certificate in June of 1928.

Ira's long and extremely successful career in the field of education started in Selah, Washington where he taught and pursued his life long love of sports. He was a outstanding basketball, baseball and tennis coach at Selah High School. During this 17 year coaching career, Ira produced Yakima Valley Championship Teams as their coach. The interaction and rich experiences with these young men and women gave him much satisfaction in later life. Ira continued to attend Selah High School Class Reunions through his 98th birthday, a yearly ritual he truly enjoyed.

After Ira's marriage to a lovely, vivacious, young school teacher from Everett, Washington, Margaret Mary Perry, on June 15, 1935, both newlyweds stayed in the field of education until the early 1970s. Over the years Ira continued his personal pursuit of education at Washington State College and the University of Washington, completing degrees from both schools. During these personally satisfying and very productive years, Ira was the Superintendent of Schools in White Swan and Raymond, Washington. The final years of his career as an educator were in the Seattle Public Schools. Ira retired in 1971.

Ira's life long partner, Margaret, preceded him in death in 1999, after living to be 90 years of age. They are survived by their 3 children, daughter Kay Brown, Selah, sons-and-daughters in law, Bob & Myrna Overstreet, Everett; and Perry & Joyce Overstreet, Payson, Arizona. Their 13 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren are all living and thankful for the legacy Ira has left them, that of trying to make this world a better place for all of mankind through the wonders of education. Ira was a very active member of the University Congregational Church before moving to the Washington Oakes Retirement home in Everett. Prior to moving to Washington Oakes, Ira resided in the Ida Culver Retirement Home in North Seattle.
