Claudia Ann Gruchalla - Oct. 22, 2008

Claudia Ann Gruchalla, 62, a longtime Harborite and former business owner, died Wednesday, October 22, 2008 in Seattle. Claudia was born in Thompson Falls, Montana, October 5, 1946, the daughter of Harold and Ethel (Eldridge) Bacon.

She lived in Montana and Oregon before her family settled in Olympia. Along with her parents and siblings, she owned the Golden Carriage Restaurant in Olympia.

Her family came to Aberdeen in the early 1980s. They owned the A&W Drive-in and Harolds Quick Stop. After selling the stores, Claudia worked at Business Tax Service in Olympia.

Claudia enjoyed reading, board games, the beach and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki (David) Jensen and their children, Joshua, Corey and Austin; her son, Todd (Fran) Gruchalla and their children, Todd William, Kevin, Keivin and Francella Ann; her daughter, Shannon and her children, Brice and Brent; her sister, Connie (Roger) Ostendorp; her brother, Charles (Sharon) Bacon; and four nieces, one nephew and a great niece. Preceding her in death were her parents and an infant son, Manfred Gruchalla Jr.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of her life from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, Sunday, October 26, 2008 at her daughters home, 2716 Bench Dr., Aberdeen.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, P.O. Box 19024, Seattle, WA 98109

Shortly after Moms passing, the song, In The Arms Of An Angel played on the radio. For those of you who loved her, take comfort to know there is an angel watching over you. We Love you MaMa, forever.

Everett G. Sheriff - Oct 5, 2008

Seattle Aberdeen resident Everett Gleed Sheriff died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was 71.

He was a journeyman electrician at Weyerhaeuser.

Services are pending in Utah and a full obituary will follow in The Daily World.

Arrangements are by Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.

Frank Reino Jr. - Sept. 2, 2008

Frank Reino Jr., 76, a lifetime resident of the Harbor, died at Virginia Mason Medical Center, Seattle, Tuesday, September 2, 2008. He was born in Aberdeen, October 7, 1931, the son of Frank Sr. and Ellise Genevieve (LeDuke) Reino.

Frank graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1950, where he had played football, baseball, track and band.

He married Jeanne L. Reid in Aberdeen on June 1, 1955 and she preceded him in death in Olympia on August 25, 2005.

Frank first began work after graduation with Grays Harbor Construction and in 1952 went to work for Grays Harbor Plywood, which after a time became Evans Products. Frank became disabled at work and it forced his retirement in 1971.

He liked to work on old radios and fish, but most important in his life was his family.

Frank is survived by a daughter: Lenore (John) Philbrick, Aberdeen; three sons: Frank A. (Donna) Reino, Aberdeen, Timothy J. (Linda) Reino, Holton, Kansas and Peter P. (Cindy Myer) Reino, Montesano; and also 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Valencourt, who was missing in action in the Korean War, and two sisters, Genevieve Wilson and Agnes Callard.

Visitation will be from 9 am until service time, Friday, September 5th in the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held at 1 pm Friday, September 5th in Fern Hill cemetery, Pastor Rick Moyer of Christian Life Fellowship, officiating. A celebration of his life and potluck will follow at CLF, 4800 Central Park Dr., Aberdeen. Gladys Elizabeth Dawson - Sept. 8, 2008

Gladys Elizabeth Dawson, 58, of Aberdeen passed away on September 8th 2008 of Pancreatic Cancer, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen.

Gladys was born May 10, 1950 in Britton, South Dakota to Mable and DeLaire Donovan. She grew up on the family farm near Hecla. At the age of 14 she moved to Hoquiam with her parents and attended Hoquiam High School.

Gladys was united in marriage to Harry N. Dawson of Aberdeen, August 10, 1967. They lived happily together as husband and wife for 41 years in Aberdeen. During their union they had three children; Frederick N. Dawson of Houston, Texas, Tina R. Coburn of Shelton, and Deseri N. Dawson-Emery of Aberdeen. Gladys was blessed with three grandchildren; Eloisa R. Coburn, Bryce N.J. Emery and Jessie E.G. Emery.

Gladys was proceeded in death by her parents and two nephews, leaving behind three sisters and four brothers; Joyce Mitchell of Prestonsburg, Ky, Rose Mary Donovan of Spearfish, S.D., Frances Donovan of Olympia, Howard Donovan of Kenei, Alaska, Richard Donovan of Englevale, N.D., Thomas Donovan of Hoquiam, and Joseph Donovan of Olympia, and many, many nieces and nephews.

Gladys enjoyed sewing and making quilts, which she sold, and gave her precious designs to others. During her time here she worked at Wal-Mart as an Associate in the garden center where she made many friends.

For all friends, family and acquaintances there will be a viewing from 9 am to 1 pm at Fern Hill Funeral Home on September 13, 2008. Please no flowers. Monetary gifts may be donated to Relay for Life, ATTN: Shawna Meyers, 117 E. 3rd St., Aberdeen, WA 98520 in the memory of Gladys E Dawson.

In honor of Gladys wishes there will be a Celebration of her life from 1-9 pm, September 14, 2008 at the VFW Hall in Aberdeen. All are welcome to attend. This will be a potluck event. During this event we will be selling her precious quilts. All proceeds of the sales will be given to Relay for Life.

Guy Lynn Stutesman - Oct. 6, 2008

Guy Lynn Stutesman, 46, died at his home in Aberdeen, Monday, October 6, 2008. He was born in Aberdeen, June 1, 1962, the son of Drexel G. and Wuanita J. (Fanning) Stutesman.

He graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1980 and had attended several colleges.

In 1985 he went to Los Angeles and started his own household moving company which he operated until 1994. He lived in Seattle, Olympia and Portland, before returning to Aberdeen in January 2001 to take care of his mother until her death in 2007.

While in Aberdeen he had a landscaping business that he operated up to his passing. Guy liked to travel and was on extensive road trips through most of the U.S. He enjoyed buying and fixing up cars. He never saw a car he didnt want to own or a person he didnt want to help.

He is survived by his longtime partner and companion, Larry Conklin, Aberdeen; three brothers: Paul and wife Sheri, of Port Angeles, Glen, of Fife and Floyd and wife Karen, of Wishkah Valley; a sister, Carol Stutesman, Seaside, Ore.; nine nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 8pm, Friday, October 10, 2008, at Fern Hill Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11am, Saturday, October 11, in the chapel at the funeral home. A private interment will take place in Fern Hill cemetery. A reception will follow the service at the First Methodist Church in Hoquiam.

Judy Blackburn Clauson - Oct. 15, 2008

Judy Lynn BlackburnClauson, 45, passed away October 15, 2008 at her home in Aberdeen, after a two year battle with mesothelioma.

Judy is survived by her mother Lydia Blackburn of Aberdeen; two sons, Erik and Daren Eberwein of Aberdeen; three step-sons, Michael Clauson of Colorado Springs, Bryce and Brandon Clauson of Aberdeen; a granddaughter, Mikhalia Eberwein; her sisters, Patty John of British Columbia, Lynda Jolly and Deborah Blackburn of Aberdeen; her brothers, Phillip (Dino) Blackburn of Aberdeen, Gary and Jimmy Blackburn, both of Quinault, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and her spouse, Richie Clauson.

Judy loved life and people loved Judy. She readily shared this passion with all who met her. She was kindhearted and would do what she could to help others. Family was very important to her, as were her dogs who were her constant companions.

She also had a special bond with her nephew Ryan Morse, who was her caregiver.

Judy was a proud member of the Quinault Nation, and during her life her native heritage was very important to her and through it she found strength. Judy also completed the first level of training as a Reiki practitioner.

Besides being a hair stylist and owning Captains Corner for a number of years, Judy ran a mobile karaoke unit and worked throughout the county. For her, this was more than a job, because she had a beautiful voice and relished meeting people everywhere.

Judy also enjoyed playing golf and collecting anything Mickey Mouse.

She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A time of visitation will take place today from 1:00-8:00 pm, Friday October 17, 2008 in Fern Hill Funeral Home.

We will be celebrating Judy's life at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Harbor City Church, 1700 Cherry Street, Aberdeen.

Burial with vault interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park in Hoquiam. A reception will follow at the church.

John Maki - Oct. 22, 2008

Montesano Lifelong Harborite John R. Maki died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, at Montesano Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was 84.

He had been a commercial fisherman.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 31, in the chapel at Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 1, at the funeral home.

Burial with military honors will be in Fern Hill cemetery in Aberdeen.

Jodie Younger - Sept. 19, 2008

Jodie Younger, 79, Aberdeen resident and maker of fine wooden canes and crosses, and former splitter man for Anderson & Middleton Co., died Friday evening, September 19, 2008 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen.

Jodie was born April 19, 1929 in Clinton, Oklahoma to Joe & Laura (Session) Younger.

Jodie worked for many mills in the area as a splitter man.

Jodie is survived by his wife Mable Rose (Owens) Younger in Aberdeen; three daughters, Shirley ODell and husband Rick, Wilma Emery and husband Jim and Anita Tavares and companion Frank; step-son Dan Bonnell and wife Becky; and five other step-children; two brothers, Leland Younger, and Leo Younger and wife Maria; sister, Katherine Wentz and husband Leo; grandchildren, Roy Bruce Scott Jr., James Leo Emery Jr., Joe Emery and wife Janice, Judy Halstead and husband Phil, Julie Shumate and husband Keith and John Emery and wife Shaunda and numerous other grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild on the way. Jodie was preceded in death by one great-great-grandchild.

There will be visitation from 1-8 pm Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at the Fern Hill Funeral Home.

A funeral service will take place 10 am Wednesday, September 24, at the Fern Hill Funeral Home's Chapel. Burial will be at Fern Hill cemetery, Aberdeen.

Kenneth Hoffman - Oct. 8, 2008

Kenneth L. Hoffman died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. He was 78.

He had been a custodian for the Aberdeen School District.

There will be visitation from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.

A funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 10, in Fern Hill Funeral Homes chapel.

Leona Wilma Pinion - Sept. 21, 2008

Leona Wilma Pinion, 86, lifelong resident of the Harbor, died at Harbor Point Shores Assisted Living, Ocean Shores, Sunday, September 21, 2008.

She was born in Ellensburg, Washington, February 24, 1922, the daughter of Earl and Cleona (Birtch) Wright.

The family moved to North River area where Leona attended a one-room school house.

She left school early and worked as a waitress at the Montesano Bee Hive Restaurant from 1937 through the War years. She continued working as a waitress and bartender, spending several years of employment at each of the Wirta, Ida's Inn, Dutchs, and The Haven Tavern in East Aberdeen.

She first retired when she was over seventy years old, but then went to work cleaning houses until she was over eighty.

She married Chuck Pinion in 1964 in Aberdeen. He died in 1991.

Leona played in tournament shuffleboard and was a member of the United States National team that played against the Canadian team where the United States won.

In 1991 she caught the largest sturgeon of the year on the Columbia River, measuring just under six feet and weighing 140 pounds. She also was a wonderful cook and liked to bake. Her real loves, though, were her children and many grandchildren.

She was a member of the Methodist Church of Ocean Shores.

Leona is survived by two sons, William M. Morgan of Okla., and Douglas E. Lewis, of S. Aberdeen; three daughters, Pamela Renee Smith, Darby, of Montana, Sherrie Colleen Barnes, of Aberdeen and Tonya Charmaine Zander, of Ocean Shores; a foster daughter, Wanda Pinion, of Aberdeen; three sisters, Frances Casey, Homer, Alaska; Patricia Newman, Helena, Mont., and Lorraine Cushman, St. Helens, Ore.; and also 25 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her twin brother, Leo Wright, a brother, Don Wright; three sisters, Ethel Mullins, Myrtle Logan and Bennie Good; and a companion, Clint Rager in 2003.

A celebration of her life was held at Lake Sylvia State Park, Montesano, Wednesday, September 24, 2008. A family commemoration at the committal of her cremated remains will be held at a later date.

Arrangements were entrusted to, Fern Hill Funeral Home, Aberdeen.

Marilyn J. Beatty - Sept. 12, 2008

Marilyn J. Beatty, 67, a longtime resident of Aberdeen and former cafeteria worker at Miller Jr. High in the 80s, passed away Friday, September 12, 2008 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen.

Marilyn was born, October 31, 1940 in Longview to Bluford and Ida Mae (Longoria) Elledge. She moved with her family to Tacoma and Everett before moving to Aberdeen in 1956 where she graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1958. She then attended Grays Harbor Business College.

On May 29, 1959, Marilyn married Donald Dale Beatty in Montesano. He died in January of 2004.

Marilyn enjoyed being a housewife and raising her children and then being with her grandchildren. She loved her dogs and raised Chihuahuas. She liked to sew, go out to garage sales and watch baseball. She was a member of AARP.

Marilyn is survived by two sons, Donald Beatty of Aberdeen and Steven (Barbara) Beatty of Bozeman, Mont.; a daughter, Margaret (Ron) Delbrouck of Central Park; a brother, Tom Elledge of Hoquiam; three sisters, Virginia Becker of Vancouver B.C., Barbara Crosby of Seattle and Wilma Daniels of Vancouver, Wash.; Four grandchildren, Josh, Travis, and Rachel Delbrouck, and Lakoda Beatty.

Marilyn was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Elledge.

There will be a time of visitation from 9 am until Noon on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen. A graveside service will take place at 2 pm Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the Oddfellows cemetery, in Elma.

The family suggests that donations be made to the Central Park Fire Dept., 6317 Olympic Hwy, Aberdeen, WA 98520.

Arrangements are by Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.
