Sonoe Fujihira
Born in Nagoya, Japan on May 15, 1930
Departed on Oct. 1, 2006 and resided in Mercer Island, WA.

Sonoe Fujihira of Mercer Island passed away on October 1st, 2006 at the age of 76. Sonoe was born in Nagoya, Japan, to Yoshiro and Asao Kumazawa on May 15, 1930 and came to the U.S in 1954. She lived with her beloved husband Mako on Mercer Island for the past 32 years.
Sonoe’s name means “beautiful branch” in Japanese. Her name is reflective of her life story. Sonoe studied dressmaking in Japan prior to moving to the U.S. where she raised her four children. She was the pillar of her family, always reaching out to them. She always made sure that her family was never in need. She was there to make you smile, laugh, and share a funny story. Sonoe was an inspiration and will be truly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband Mako, her four children and their spouse’s, son Mike and wife Linda, daughter Betty and husband Bret, son Jimmy and wife Nadine, and son John and wife Amy. Sonoe loved and enjoyed her eight grandchildren, Gina, Danielle, Alex, Drew, Troy, Tyler, Michael Jr. and Nauchelle, and her four great Grandchildren Charice, Corbin, Megan, and Sonoi the newest addition to the family.
Sonoe requested a private family service. Her friends and family will celebrate her life at the home of Mako Fujihira on October 14, 2006 at 3:00 PM. Sonoe always said, “It’s a nice day, let’s go for a ride?” Please pick a nice day, take a ride and think fondly of Sonoe.

Fern Thorgerson Gwin
Born in Iowa on Sep. 10, 1913
Departed on Oct. 27, 2006 and resided in Seattle, WA.
Fern Thorgerson Gwin
Age 93, born September 10, 1913, passed away October 27, 2006. Raised in Kiester, Minnesota. preceded in death by husband Rodney, brothers Wilford, Vernon, and Ringnell Thorgerson, and sister Ruby Rowen. Middle child of Martin and Zelma Thorgerson. Survived by daughters Margaret Gwin (Don) Fowles, Gaithersburg, MD., and Kathleen (Rob) Tuura, Mtlk Terr., Wa., grandson Kristopher (Brianne) Tuura, Richland, Wa., step-granddaughter Brie (Doug) Patterson and their daughter Piper, and many loving nieces and nephews. The family moved from Minnesota to Seattle in 1929. Fern graduated from Cleveland High in 1930. She attended beauty school and worked as a beautician. She met Rodney in 1940. They married Nov. 5, 1943. In 1949 they moved to Ballard and she lived in the same house until 2005. For forty-five years Fern enjoyed her morning coffee with neighbor Val Gilberts. She loved a party so please join us in celebrating her life Noon to 5 PM, Sunday, Nov 12, at the Nordic Heritage Museum. Donna Rae Baptista (Hamilton)
Born in Ketchikan Alaska on Apr. 30, 1946
Departed on Oct. 30, 2006 and resided in Seattle, WA.
Donna Rae Baptista (Hamilton), a caring and giving person born April 30, 1946 in Ketchikan, AK, passed away October 30th, 2006. She is survived by her husband, Gerry, of 41 years. Other survivors include her brothers Michael Hamilton (Ketchikan, AK), Donald Hamilton, Jr. (Hollis, AK) and Richard Hamilton (Seattle, WA); sisters Candy Cornell (Fall City, WA) and Joy Craig (Ketchikan, AK); aunt Hazel Hamilton (Seattle, WA); uncle Fred Hamilton, Sr. (Craig, AK); nephews Dean Moore, Bou Cornell, Daniel Hamilton, Jacob Hamilton, and Samuel Hamilton; nieces Kelly Stedman, Debbie Nicholson, and many cousins and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Donald M. Hamilton, Sr. and Margaret Bell Hamilton (Logsdon).
Donna was raised in Ketchikan until 1962. She attended Kayhi High School and then graduated from King’s Garden in Seattle. Donna married Gerry Baptista on October 22, 1965 in Seattle, WA. Donna’s passions included raising and breeding Scottish Terriers and her activities with the Washington State Scottish Terrier Club.
Donna’s other passion was her Native heritage. She was very active in the Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska - Washington Chapter and served as President and a delegate for many years. She was also active in the Haida Heritage Foundation and performed in the Native dance group and as a drummer with other dance groups. The dance group is called Seattle Haida Laas which Donna is a member. As a Sealaska shareholder, she collected proxies. Her picture appeared in the Sealaska August 2006 newsletter.
Donna also was instrumental in the beginning of the Haida Heritage Foundation, which started in 1984 by Haidas living in the Seattle area with the purpose of preserving the culture and educating the youth in traditional Haida songs, dances, language, and art. She also took a Haida language class.
Donna Rae will be honored at a Fellowship to be held by the Haida Laas Dance Group on Sunday, November 5th, 2006 at 3:00pm at the Daybreak Star Cultural Center in Discovery Park (Seattle, WA). There will be Native dancing and Native food.

Barbara Ann Loar

Barbara A. LOAR
Born July 10, 1932 in Warren, PA and passed away unexpectedly October 31, 2006 in Seattle, WA. Beloved mother of Wendy Lindgren (Mike) of Pasco, WA Tracie Roan of Seattle, Candy Carey of Puyallup, WA and Bunny Loar (Jeff) of Seattle; Grandmother of 6 grandchildren and two great granddaughters. She is also survived by her mother Dorothy Wickham of Puyallup, brothers Tim Wickham (Becky) of Puyallup, WA and Ken Wickham of Eagle, Idaho, and was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Wickham. Barbara was an avid golfer and loved to travel with her longtime friend Barbara Scott. She really enjoyed her yard, that’s where she spent most of her time, and it really showed. Her cats, Oliver, Minnie, Rudie and an occasional possum, were her pride and joy too.
Mom we love you so much and will be forever remembered and always missed.
Memorial service will be held at 5:30pm, Sat. November 4, 2006 at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Chapel, Seattle

Lew H. Morrison
Born in Anacortes, WA on Apr. 18, 1913
Departed on Oct. 31, 2006 and resided in Seattle, WA.

Lew died peacefully at home early Tuesday morning. He was 93. A musician and composer, Lew performed for more than 80 years as a drummer, vocalist, and guitar and banjo player in various bands up and down the west coast. A born showman, Lew loved the spotlight and never met an audience he didn't like. His musical career began in his pre-teen years, playing guitar in his father, Morrie Morrison's orchestra. He later recorded with Bonnie Guitar and spent 22 years in a dance band at Burt Lindgren's (1935-1957). In the 60's and 70's, he played drums, banjo, and sang in a Dixieland trio at Shakey's. In his later years, Morrison was dubbed "the Darling of the Center" when he played senior citizen dances at The Seattle Center well into his 80s . Morrison worked at City Light for 34 years and retired in 1975 as a Senior Consultant. An avid Mariners, Seahawks and Sonics fan, Lew also enjoyed golf, tennis and watching his kids and grandkids play sports and music. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Lorraine; sons, Larry (Janet), Steve (Nicole), Ken, and Dan (Nola); daughters, Jean (Dick) Nelson, and Kathy Rash; 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; sisters-in-laws, Diane Eidem and Barbara Eidem; nephew, Mike Eidem and niece, Sandy Eidem. Services will be held at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home, 11111 Aurora Ave. N. at noon on Saturday (November 4th). Donations can be made in Lew's memory to Medic One or your favorite charity.

Pearl "Deddie" Lucille Wandler

Pearl "Deddie" WANDLER July 7, 1922 - October 30, 2006 Born in Seattle to Frank and Lizzy Thomas. Pearl passed peacefully surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Casper Wandler. After many generations growing in Ballard, Pearl wanted to share her childhood with her own children raising them within blocks of her childhood home. Between the Thomas and Wandler family, there are three generations of Ballard Beavers. Though Pearl did not drive, she covered every square foot of Ballard. She spent many days strolling the streets with her children finding themselves visiting with family and friends, going to parks, having picnics, shopping and watching the ships going in and out of the locks. She and Casper were well known in the community, owning and operating Cappy's Ballard Towing for thirty-two years. Deddie was the anchor of the business being the dispatcher and bookkeeper, as her husband and three sons teamed together as tow truck operators. Even on the busiest days Pearl found time to play and talk with her Grandkids in the shop. Cherished Mother to Mary Gallardo (Anthony), Jack Wandler, Carol Rice (Jerry), Casper S. Wandler and Rolly Wandler. Worshiped Grandmother to Matthew, Richard, Douglas, Melissa, Gabriel, John, Aaron, Christine, Sarah, Laurie, Jackquelyn, Casper and Chris. Adored GGma to Matthew, Chelsea, Garrett, Leela, Sol, Tony and Samuel. Treasured sister to Marion and Patricia. Supportive Aunt to 54 nieces and nephews. Viewing will be held Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Evergreen-Washelli. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 4, 2006 at Evergreen- Washelli, 11111 Aurora Avenue North. Clarence Reimer
Born in Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada on Oct. 19, 1922
Departed on Oct. 25, 2006 and resided in Shoreline, WA.

Clarence Reimer went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, October 25th. He was born October 19th, 1922 in Steinbach, Manitoba. He was the youngest child of a family of 8, with 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
Clarence met Rosaline when they were 6 years old and later married in June of 1945. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage. He is survived by his loving wife Rosaline and his 3 daughters: Sandra Wollen (her 2 sons & daughter in law, Christopher, Matthew and Susan), Constance Bohstedt (husband Curtis), and Priscilla West (husband Michael, their 2 daughters Alison and Brandi).
He attended Grace University in Omaha, Nebraska and received a Bachelor of Theology. Upon graduation he joined West Indies Mission, now known as World Team, at the Pennsylvania headquarters, for 13 years.
He served at King's Garden/CRISTA Ministries in Seattle as Vice President and President for almost 23 years, from 1965 till 1987. He oversaw a period of dramatic growth and change, which included the acquisition of Island Lake and Miracle Ranch Camps, the merger with Intercristo, construction of new buildings, including the 250 resident Cristwood Retirement Living, and nursing home facilities. He also built a new gymnasium, purchased new school buses, added an FM radio station, and led a new international ministry, Medicine for Missions, which grew to become World Concern. He shepherded the transition from the original "King's Garden" name to the current "CRISTA Ministries" (acronym for "Christianity in Action"). His outstanding service was recognized by Seattle Pacific University with an Honorary Doctorate in
1977.
He then was Vice President/President of ECFA, Evangelical Council of Financial Accountability, in Fairfax, Virginia, from 1987 till 2000. He continued to consult World Team and many other Christian organizations. Only the Lord knows how many lives were touched through Clarence's lifelong ministry and leadership.
Remembrances can be made to CRISTA Ministries, 19303 Fremont Ave. N in Seattle, WA 98133. The viewing is Wednesday, Nov. 1st from 2-8 pm and Graveside Services are Thursday, Nov. 2nd at 11:00 am, both at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home, 11111 Aurora Ave.N Seattle, WA. 98133. Memorial Service is Thursday, Nov. 2nd at 1:00 pm. at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 18826-3rd Ave. NW Shoreline, WA 98177. The reception will follow at Cristwood Activity Center, 350 N 190th Shoreline 98133, 206-546-7500.

Allan E. Bornemeier
Born in Murdock, Nebraska on Jul. 6, 1914

ALLAN ERNEST BORNEMEIER, JULY 6, 1914 TO OCTOBER 26, 2006
Allan Bornemeier was born July 6, 1914 in the family farmhouse where his father was also born near Murdock, NE. His parents were Ernest Bornemeier and Ida Achenbach.
His family moved from the family farm to the city of Lincoln, Nebraska in 1920. He graduated from Lincoln High School and attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln He still loved watching his Huskers play. He served in the band section of the Service Company of the 110th Medical Regiment from 1936 to 1939, and was a member of the Gamma Lambda Fraternity of the University of Nebraska ROTC Marching Band.
He married Verna May Yochum on February 25, 1939, in Ashland, Nebraska, at her family’s home. They moved to Seattle the following year, and to the territory of Alaska, to assist with the building of Elmendorf Air Force Base.
He served proudly in WWII in the Pacific, at Bougainville and the Philippines in the 132nd Chicago National Guard Unit from 1944 -1945. He earned the Combat Infantry Badge and received the Bronze Star award.
He was active in many organizations, including the Boy Scouts, Junior Bowling and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served as both the Commander of the Ballard Post # 3063 and as District II Commander from 1971-1972. He was an active member of Bethel Presbyterian Church for many years.
He retired from Civil Service with the Department of the Navy in 1973. After retirement he returned to carpentry and spent the next 20 years doing carpentry as a business.
He enjoyed traveling throughout the US. He saw most of the 50 states and many parts of the world. He and his wife took a trip around the world in 1973, and several trips to Europe followed. He was proud of his family heritage and developed an interest in Family History and can trace portions of his family back to the 1500’s.
He was preceded in death by parents, Ernest and Ida, and brothers Virgil and Roland and his only sister Ferne.
Allan is survived by his wife Verna May of 67 years and 3 children Robert (Lillian) Bornemeier of Cle Elum, Nancy Camus of Snohomish and Susan (Harold) Cook, of Issaquah, five grand-children, Shaun (Heather) Bornemeier of Bothell, Ryan (Erin) Bornemeier, Bret Bornemeier, Lisa (Eric) Carter of Seattle and Shelley (Jason) Ermigarat of Aliso Viejo, CA. He has 3 great grand children, Kirstin, Hannah and Brayden born September 14, 2006.
We will miss you dad.
Services at:10 AM Wed., Nov. 1st at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home, 11, 111 Aurora Ave N., Seattle. Burial service follows at 1:30 PM at Tahoma National cemetery, Kent, Wa.
Donations to Seattle Medic One (911) or a charity of your choice.
