What to Wear:Hawaiian Shirt Required (We will have extras if you don’t own one)
Narrative: "Mike was born in Minneapolis and grew up in Minneapolis and Davenport Iowa.
He was close to friends and family in that area and regularly attended his class reunions in Davenport.
After college he moved to Southern California with his wife, Barbara Slife, where his first son Nick was born.
Several years later, Mike moved to Seattle, Washington, where his son Jeff was born.
Mike worked in the insurance industry, first as an insurance adjuster and then by independently helping people settle their claims with insurance companies.
After separating from Barbara, Mike remarried Carolyn Crowson in 1982. They moved to Poulsbo, Washington 12 years ago.
Mike raised bombast to an art form and never met a personal, intimate question he was afraid to ask. Amazingly, people felt compelled to answer.
His sartorial standard was Hawaiian shirt, shorts black socks and sandals.
Gruff, jovial and occasionally caustic, people came away believing that, what from others would be considered socially unacceptable slurs, were, from Mike, terms of endearment.
He had strong opinions strongly voiced about everything from cold slaw to ‘Camelot,’ which he didn’t like, to gin with a splash of lemon and ‘Mama Mia, ’ which he did.
An inveterate movie-goer, Mike enthusiastically reviewed movies for his friends, not in depth, but with absolute clarity ... “That’s the worst piece of trash I’ve ever seen!” Mike was restless, seeming in some vague way to feel that he was always supposed to be someplace else.
Whether shopping, weekending, or touring, Mike did his barely contained patient best to to keep things moving.
When it was time to go, he was gone.
His work took him on the road and Mike thought nothing of a ten hour stint behind the wheel, looking forward to these excursions and their solitude.
Satisfying his on the road restlessness put Mike at the time, place and unfortunate accident that claimed his life.
Mike was a loyal, supportive, reliable, caring husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose life centered on family, friends, beloved dogs, home and garden, despite his restlessness.
A man that would not sit still and persistently impatient with himself, Mike wanted to experience everything in life he could.
As a result, he got more done in 60 years than most of us will get done in twice that time.
He took care of everyone who needed taking care of.
Mike could always be counted on to contribute a helping hand, a hearty laugh, a great meal (yes he cooked and cleaned too), or a sly witticism.
He leaves behind fond memories and memories wanting for plans made that Mike will not now share."
