Marcus Dale Bowman
Marcus Dale Bowman entered our world on a sunny Thursday afternoon, August 26, 1971, at Vancouver Memorial Hospital. While attending Lincoln Elementary School, he began playing the bass. Taking to it naturally, he continued playing at Shumway and later in the Vocal Jazz Ensemble at Clark College where he graduated as a theater major.
It was at Hudson Bay High School, where Mark became interested in drama, appearing in several productions at Hudson Bay and Clark College including "Dracula, " Children's Theater, Grant Chandler in "Double in Diamonds, " Petruchio in "The Taming of the Shrew, " Sash in "Fiddler on the Roof, " William Coxes in "Other People's Money, " and General MacKenzie in "Ten Little Indians." Many other non-school related productions were graced with his performances including Music Theater Oregon's 1990 Equity's production of "Evita", "Carbon Copy, " and as Michael in Youth Unlimited's "What About the Children." He also appeared in "Why My Daughter" (NBC Movie of the Week) and "Mystery Dance" (ABC Movie of the Week), made several local commercials and did some modeling work. Mark sang Bass, second Tenor in the Clark Concert Choir and played Bass in Vocal Jazz Ensemble. In 1991, he spent a fun-filled summer working in the Character Department at Disneyland. Mark was a natural on stage and could always capture your heart with his easy smile and warm sense of humor. Mark was an Eddy McCordic Talent Scholarship Recipient from Theatre and Music Departments and was Drama Club Treasurer 1990-91 and 1991-92. He also received Student Recognition Awards for his participation in ASCC Finance Committee (1991-93), Theater Department Service (1990-91 and 1991-92), and Music Department Service (1991-92). He worked as Shop Foreman/Stage Technician (1990-92) and Computer Lab Assistant (1992-93). While a Lincoln student, he won a place at the OMSI chess tournament. Mark also was a Columbian carrier 1984-87.
At the end of his high school years, he worked as a cashier at the Main Street Safeway store until selected to appear in Evita. He later worked at Vancouver Plaza Act III Theater. Most recently, he worked at Computer City and for three years as a temporary at Hewlett Packard. Mark had an active interest in photography, geology, enjoyed scuba diving, sky diving, bungee jumping, horseback riding, rock climbing, hiking and was especially fond of his motorcycle. He also played the string bass, bass guitar and guitar. His life ended tragically on Saturday morning, March 29, 1997.
In memory of Mark, please write a remembrance of him and send it to the family at P.O. Box 1001, Vancouver, WA 98666.
Mark found God a few hours before his death; it would be appropriate for each of you who loved him to plant a tree in his name. Also each evening when the sky is clear, stop to look at the constellations as he did so often and contemplate God's love. Marcus will be remembered for his passion for theater, his warm sense of humor, his ability to make people laugh, and his generosity with his time and his friendship. He had a way of making everyone around him feel special. His cousin Sandi told everyone that he was and always will be her hero and relayed how special he made her feel since she was also a youngest child and that he made her feel she can accomplish anything.
Perhaps Tami, a very dear friend said it best at his memorial service, "I now have a guardian angel on my shoulder." His web pages contain many remembrances from some of those who knew Marcus. Please visit his web pages at www.pacifier.com/~bowman, enjoy the comments and, if you knew Marcus, please add your own remembrances to share with family and friends.
The family will provide a Vancouver School for Arts and Academics drama award in Mark's name to be awarded to a senior drama student each year. The family is also setting up an annual scholarship at Clark College to be awarded in Mark's name to a theater/drama student each year. Anyone wishing to donate to the scholarship fund, please send a check made payable to Clark College Foundation to the family at P.O. Box 1001, Vancouver, WA 98666.
Donations can also be made in Mark's name to Guide Dogs for the Blind, P.O. Box 151200, San Rafael, CA 97915 .

EUGENE ANTON FRANCK
November 10, 1933 ~ September 19, 2008
Eugene Anton Franck, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on September 19, 2008, peacefully in his sleep after his favorite meal; just the way he wanted. Gene was born on Nov. 10, 1933 to Thomas and Annie Franck in Flasher, North Dakota. He was the third of six children and spent most of his youth in Bismarck, ND where he started his first job as a paper boy at the age of eight, played various sports and graduated from St. Mary's High School. In 1951 he met the love of his life, Delores Amory, and swept her off her feet against great odds. They had five children, 4 boys and 1 girl, and eventually settled in Vancouver, WA where they lived for the last 38 years.
Gene was a hard worker from the ages of 8 to 73 and was a dedicated provider for his family. He worked in the grocery business for 45 years and retired from Vancouver Food Center in 1994. He was well known in the Vancouver downtown community as Geno, the man who could get ANY job done.
His physical strength and generosity were legendary and you rarely walked away from him empty handed. He would talk to anybody and it was hard to go somewhere without running into someone who knew him. Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, police officer reserve, Jaycees, watching sports and Westerns and making money.
Above all, he cherished his family. He said they were what he was most proud of in his life. His favorite times were spent at family get-togethers and attending the activities of his children, grand- children and great-grandchildren. He was in turn greatly loved by his family and will be especially remembered in their hearts at all future family events.
Gene is survived by his wife of 55 years, Delores; children, Kenneth (Ann), James (Mary), Wade (Kathleen), Craig (Lori), and Marcene Franck; grandchildren, Lyndsay, Breanne, Chadd, April, Monica, Nathan, Adam, Patrick, Nicholas, Steven, Rebecca, Ethan, Dylan, Jenna, Bryson, Chuck, Travis; great-grandchildren, Kaed, Brynn, Cierra, Ashlyn, Jacob, Aidan and we are expecting a great-grandson, Anthony on his 75th birthday; sisters, Betty, Diane, Della, Leona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Danny.
The voice of love is not always spoken but is never really silent.
You will continue living in the hearts of those you touched,
for nothing loved is ever lost, and you were loved so much.
We rest in the belief that now you really are "too good".
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Fri., Sept. 26, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 4723 NW Franklin St., Vancouver, WA. Viewing is on Thurs., Sept. 25, 2008, 3:00-9:00 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 1101 NE 112th Ave., Vancouver, WA.
Memorial donations can be made in honor of a special needs great-granddaughter, Brynn, at any Columbia Credit Union.
