Kvamme, Oscar Tuesday, 01 Oct 2002
Longtime Fife resident Oscar Kvamme died Oct. 1. He was 97. Born July 30, 1905 in Bergen, Norway, he came to the Puget Sound area in 1923.
He is survived by his children, Ione Grubert of Spanaway, Amelia Kvamme of Spokane, Carol Huntington and Dean Kvamme of Milton, Leigh Kennedy of Federal Way and Arleen Iverson of Eatonville; a sister, Ragnhild Ronhovde of Norway; a brother, Ole Kvamme; and 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha, on March 1, 2002, and by two granddaughters.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 7 at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Tacoma.

Awad, John Monday, 30 Sep 2002
John Ayad Awad died Sept. 30 at Tacoma General Hospital. He was 68.
Born Oct. 31, 1933 in Cairo, Egypt, he was a 34-year Federal Way resident and a physician for 37 years. Awad was in general practice in Auburn for 22 years until his retirement in 1992, and was a member of the King County Medical Society.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Marcelle Awad of Federal Way; sons Sherif Awad of Tacoma and Ramy Awad of Seattle; sisters Yvonne Shakarian of Seattle and Jenny Hovsepian of Bothel; and one grandchild.
A funeral service was scheduled for 10 a.m. Oct. 5 at the Church of the Nazarene, 1525 S.W. Dash Point Road in Federal Way, with burial at Mountain View cemetery in Auburn.
The family suggets memorials be sent to COPTIC Orphans, P.O. Box 2881, Merrifield, VA 22116, or to the Union Gospel Mission, 3800 S. Othello, Seattle, WA 98118.
Arrangements are by Yahn & Son Funeral Home in Auburn.

Jung, Rebecca Monday, 19 Aug 2002
Rebecca Lynn “Becky” Jung died Aug. 19 at North Auburn Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Auburn. she was 43.
Born June 8, 1959 in Renton, she was a lifetime Auburn resident.
She is survived by her parents Elroy and Renata Jung of Auburn; brothers, Steven W. Jung of Auburn and Stanley J. Jung of Roy; sister, Eloy P. Stone of Federal Way; and grandmother, Hilda Jung of Eureka, S.D.
Urn committal service will be at 3 p.m. Aug. 26 at Mountain View cemetery in Auburn.
Arrangements are by Yahn & Son Funeral Home in Auburn.

Doyle, Neil Saturday, 17 Aug 2002
Neil O’Connor Doyle of Federal Way died Aug. 17. He was 66.
Born in Markham, he lived in Alaska before settling in Federal Way. He was an electrician by trade and a member of the IBEW 1547. He retired in 2000 from the city of Federal Way as an electrical engineer.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Connie; daughters Debbie Doyle of Auburn, Melinda Crocker of Bellingham, Kimberly Delich of Lincoln, Calif., Bridget Doyle of Seattle and Christine Peterson-Schwab of Covington; a son, Scott Doyle of Ketchikan, Alaska; and five grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Mickle, Marie Friday, 29 Nov 2002
Marie Mickle, 87, died Nov. 29 at her home in Federal Way.
She was born April 9, 1915, in Lincoln, Neb., and married Harold R. Mickle on May 29, 1937. Soon after their wedding, they began working on the Alcan Highway and in 1945 moved to the Tri-Cities, where Marie worked for the U.S. Postal Service. At her retirement 27 years later, she received a distinguished service award.
She resided at The Manor at Canyon Lakes in Kennewick until February 2000, when she moved to Foundation House in Federal Way.
Survivors include her sisters, Dorothy Deitrich of Lincoln, Neb. and Maxine Elrod of Crete, Neb., and several nieces and nephews, including Norma and Maynard Campbell and Joan Kroeller, all of Federal Way.
Her husband of 62 years, Harold, preceded her in death.
A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Dec. 15 at Foundation House.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Red Cross or a charity of choice.

Peltier, Ruth Monday, 18 Nov 2002
Ruth Rhoda Peltier died Nov. 18 at her Auburn West Hill home. She was 84.
Born Jan. 7, 1918 in Aberdeen, she was a 65-year resident of Auburn West Hill and a former self-employed grocery store owner of the L & R Market.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard K. Peltier on Aug. 3, 2001.
She is survived by a son, Jerry A. Peltier, daughter, Jane M. Graham, brother, Jack Allie, sister, Doshel Patton, and five grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 at Yahn & Son Funeral Home, 55 West Valley Highway in Auburn.

Burns, Robert Tuesday, 29 Oct 2002
Robert ?“Bob?” D. Burns died Oct. 29. He was 73.
Born Feb. 28, 1929, he was a Federal Way resident since 1962.
He was a meat market manager for the Safeway store, located on 320th Street, until his retirement in 1993.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Dixie; children Randy Burns and Deena Carpenter of Auburn and Rocky Burns and Donette Smart of Federal Way; 16 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a great-granddaughter on the way.
A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Nov. 15 at Grace Church, 1232 SW. Dash Point Road.

McVay, Alfred Monday, 28 Oct 2002
Alfred “Al” McVay, 96, died Oct. 28 in Federal Way.
He was a resident at Life Care Center.
He was born Oct. 20, 1906 in St. Paul, Minn., attended Whitman College, and was married on June 20, 1931 in Walla Walla.
He retired from a career in marketing, which included serving as manager of the Walla Walla Chamber of Commerce for several years.
He was a member of Steel Lake Presbyterian Church, the Elks, and Multi-Service Center’s board of directors.
Survivors include his son, Jerry, of Mountain View, Calif.; a daughter, Nancy, of Olympia; two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Clara and two granddaughters.
A private family gathering was held.
The family suggests memorials be made to Franciscan Hospice, 1717 S. J St., Tacoma, WA 98405.

Hidalgo, Danielle Sunday, 20 Oct 2002
Former Federal Way resident Danielle Hidalgo of New Britain, Conn., died Oct. 20 at Hartford Hospital. She was 22.
Born in New York City, she lived in Federal Way for more than seven years, where she attended Nautilus Elementary School and Sacajawea Junior High School. She moved to New Britain in 1999, and was a student at Depauw University in Indiana.
She is survived by her parents, Victor Hidalgo Jr. of New York City and Minerva Colon of New Britain; and sisters Erica Hidalgo of Hawaii, Nicole Hidalgo of Florida and Victoria Hidalgo of New Britain.
A memorial service was held Oct. 25 in New Britain. Arrangements were by Carlson Funeral Home.

Coston, James Thursday, 10 Oct 2002
James Henry Coston of Federal Way died Oct. 10. He was 95.
He was born Feb. 18, 1907, in Suffolk, Va. to John Henry and Sallie Coston, and was a Federal Way resident since 1968.
He worked for Northwest Airlines until retiring in 1972.
He was a member of St. John’s Baptist Church Tacoma, where he served on the Finance Committee and Usher Board,
Survivors include his wife, Lula (Daisy) Coston; sisters Rebecca Pierce and Annie Gary of Suffolk; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son, Samuel Guyton.
Funeral services were held Oct. 18 at St. John Baptist Church, with interment at Washington Memorial Park in SeaTac. Arrangements were by Southwest Mortuary of Seattle.

Bolam, William Tuesday, 08 Oct 2002
Longtime Federal Way resident William H. Bolam died Oct. 8 in Las Vegas, Nev. He was 65.
He was born May 7, 1937 in Kellogg, Idaho, and was married on Sept. 28, 1956 in Sedro Woolley, Wash.
He retired from Boeing in 1995. After living in Federal Way for 33 years, he moved to Las Vegas in 1996.
He enjoyed golf, sports and coaching.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; children Mike, Bob, Joe, Marc and Catherine; a brother, Robert; sisters Shirley and JoAnn; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Nov. 15 at Tahoma National cemetery.

Nickell-Carlisle, Jeffrey Monday, 17 Feb 2003
Jeffrey Nickell-Carlisle died Feb. 17 at Tacoma General Hospital. He was 35.
He was born July 27, 1967 in Bellevue, grew up in Federal Way and graduated from Decatur High School in 1985. He received a degree in travel at Highline Community College and was employed by Alaska Airlines for the past 14 years. As product supervisor for Mexico Vacations, he traveled throughout Mexico representing the airline.
He was active in WCC Cheerleading Camps and helped coach cheerleading at Evergreen High School and Highline Community College.
Survivors include his mother and father, Brenda and Michael Carlisle of Federal Way, and father Tom Nickell of Chehalis; brothers and sisters Monti Nickell, Stacey Jha, Jennifer Kennedy, Jamie Carlisle and Nickki Nickell; and grandmother Bonnie Carlisle. He was preceded in death by his brother, Matt Nickell.
Services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. today at Christ’s Church, 941 S. Dash Point Road.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Christ’s Church Building a Legacy Fund, 941 S. Dash Point Road, Federal Way, WA 98003, or to Alaska Airlines Employee Assistance Fund, 19530 Pacific Hwy. S., Seattle, WA 98188.

Powers, Mary "Linda" Sunday, 09 Feb 2003
Mary “Linda” W. Powers died Feb. 9 in Federal Way. She was 90.
Born to Charles and Jane Wyckoff on May 3, 1912 in Clinton, Conn., she grew up in San Diego and Oakland, Calif. In 1934, she married Fred Powers in Carson City, Nev., where she worked for Product Development Corp. After retiring in 1969, she moved to Rockaway, Ore., where she lived until 1997, when she moved to Federal Way.
She was a past member of the Miami Cove and Fairview granges, a quilt club and Rockaway Community Church, where she taught Sunday school.
Survivors include a son, Stanley Powers of Old Lyme, Conn.; a daughter, Darlene Woodyard of Federal Way; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Inurnment was at Tillamook IOOF Columbarium.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Franciscan Hospice, in care of Franciscan Foundation for Health Care, P.O. Box 1502, Tacoma, WA 98401-98326.
