Gardner, Eva Mae Monday, 26 Jun 2006
Eva Mae Gardner (nee, Sellers) died June 26 at age 80 in Houston, Texas, after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born on Feb. 5, 1926, in Fried, N.D., Gardner grew up in Jamestown, N.D., married Thomas Carl Gardner on Jan. 14, 1946, and lived most of her married life in Federal Way.
She worked as a telephone and teletype operator in Minneapolis, Auburn and Seattle.
She retired as a dietician from the Federal Way School District in 1983, and moved to Houston in 1998 to be with her daughters.
Survivors include her three children Douglas Gardner (Wilma Muhlbeier) of Kennewick, Linda Railsback (Jan) of Houston and Kathy French (Jimmy) of Houston; three grandchildren; one stepgrandson; four great-grandchildren; and three siblings.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Aug. 9 at St Luke’s Lutheran Church, 512 S. 312th St., Federal Way.
Donations in Gardner’s name may be made to the local Alzheimer’s Association office.

Stean, Priscilla Monday, 26 Jun 2006
Priscilla Stean died June 26 at age 80.
Born Feb. 25, 1926, in Cambridge, Mass., Stean was a stay-at-home mother as well as a nurse.
She was a member of Wayside United Church of Christ and the Women’s Club of Federal Way.
Survivors include daughter Susan L. Hennessy (Thomas) of Bellingham; son George F. Stean IX (Jackley) of Big Sandy, Montana; daughter Elizabeth K. Rosenbaum (Thomas) of Auburn; sister Marjorie A. Brown of Bellevue; and brother Major Chester P. Brown (USAF Ret) (Karen) of Rio Rancho, N.M.
She is also survived by three grandsons.

Hayes Quinnell, Diane Lynn Monday, 19 Jun 2006
Diane Lynn Hayes Quinnell passed away peacefully at age 48 on June 19, 2006, surrounded by family in Federal Way.
She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Stephen; father Roland Darrell Hayes; brother Daniel Hayes; sister-in-law Ann Hayes; and nephews Patrick and Christopher. She will be tremendously missed by friends and family.

Lusink, Richard Monday, 12 Jun 2006
Richard (Dick) Lusink, age 68, passed away on June 12, 2006. Born in Santa Barbara, Calif., he moved to Federal Way and had his business, Dick’s Bug-In, for 30 years before retiring to Eatonville in 1999.
Dick is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gretchen; son Richard of Federal Way; son Mike of Eatonville; son Bradley of Federal Way; and son Tony of Enumclaw; and 11 grandchildren.

Frisbie, Neil Sunday, 28 May 2006
Neil Arthur Frisbie, 54, died of lung cancer at his home in Arlington, TX, on May 28.
He was born to Woodford and Marion (Richardson) Frisbie on Feb. 3, 1952, in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. He attended high school in Stockton, Calif. He moved to Federal Way in 1974, then moved to Arlington, Texas, in 1987 while working for American Airlines.
He was survived by his wife, Tammey, and three sons Joseph, Paul and John, three grandchildren, his mother, brother, two sisters, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Punchochar, Mary Thursday, 08 Jun 2006
Mary Puncochar, 79, passed away on June 8 in Kirkland. She was born on Feb. 10, 1927, in Chicago, to parents Joseph and Maria Mutalik.
A visitation was scheduled for June 13 at Bonney-Watson Federal Way Chapel, 1535 SW Dash Point Road. Graveside services were held at Gethsemane Catholic cemetery, 37600 Pacific Highway S., Federal Way.
Puncochar is preceded in death by her parents and one sister. She is survived by her husband, Frank; one daughter, Debbie Palomera; two sons, Brian Puncocher and Jeff and wife Rosie Puncochar; four grandchildren, Joseph Palomera, Keenan Puncocher, Brandon Puncochar and Lucas Puncochar; one brother, one sister, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bylsma, Robert Sunday, 04 Jun 2006
Robert G. Bylsma died June 4. He was 88.
A resident of Federal Way since 1956, Bylsma was born March 21, 1918, in Hawarden, Iowa.
He was a test engineer for Boeing and was also self-employed for several years. He was involved with Calvary Lutheran Church and St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, and was a model train enthusiast as well as a dance-band musician.
He is survived by his spouse, Marjory D. Grove Bylsma, four daughters, 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 8, at Calvary Lutheran Church, 2415 S. 320th St. in Federal Way.

Drake, Ruby Saturday, 22 Apr 2006
Ruby M. Drake died April 22. She was 97.
She was born on Aug. 26, 1908 in La Porte County, Indiana. She was the daughter of a Civil War veteran.
She had lived in Federal Way at Evergreen Lodge for six months at the time of her death.
Survivors include daughters June Farrington of Entiat, Wash. and Dorothy Goodman of Las Vegas, Nev., five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Sherman, Robert Saturday, 29 Apr 2006
Robert William Sherman died April 29. He was 85.
He was born Jan. 17, 1921, in Saginaw, Mich.
He served with the Army as a radio operator in the South Pacific during World War II.
He married Joan Crecelius in 1953, and he and his family lived in South Carolina, Georgia and New Mexico after he took teaching positions there. He also taught at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., where he was head of the music department.
After retirement, he and his wife settled in Florida. They were living in Tacoma at the time of his death.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Becky Dorsett of Federal Way; sons John Sherman of South Bend, Ind., Tom Sherman of Washington, D.C., Joe Sherman of Spokane, Michael Sherman of Tybee Island, Ga. and Jim Sherman of High Springs, Fla.; and nine grandchildren.

O;Neal, Clemence Friday, 29 Oct 2004
Clemence “Clem” A. O’Neal died Oct. 29 at his Edgewood home. He was 61.
He was born on Sept. 14, 1943 in Astoria, Ore.
He was a prior owner and broker of AAA Insurance Inc. of Federal Way, and was a longtime area resident. He enjoyed fishing and track and field, and founded the Federal Way Track Club.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 40 years, Mary; a daughter Angie of Puyallup; a son, Larry of Arlington, Wash.; a sister, Betty, and a brother, Butch; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Nov. 20 at Jovita Baptist Church, located in Edgewood at 1120 114th Ave. E.

Chelgren, Mary Alice Wednesday, 13 Oct 2004
Mary Alice Nofziger Chelgren died Oct. 13 at her home. She was 72.
She was born Sept. 27, 1932 in Ohio.
She graduated with a degree in nursing from Goshen College in Indiana, and completed her masters degree in nursing at the University of Minnesota. She taught nursing at Goshen College and Berea College in Kentucky before earning a doctorate from the University of Washington in 1971. As a Washington resident, she directed a program to train in-service nurses to use new equipment and techniques, wrote sections in several nursing textbooks, and provided short-term training for hospitals and health-related organizations. In 1988, she became director of nursing services at Caroline Kline Galland Home, where she worked until her retirement in 1999.
She married Don Eldon Chelgren in 1967.
She was an active 30-year member of Olympic View Friends Church in Northeast Tacoma.
Survivors include her husband of University Place; children Laura Palsson of Tacoma, and Robert Chelgren of Downey, Calif.; four grandchildren and one step-granddaughter.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Oct. 23 at Olympic View Friends Church. Arrangements are by New Tacoma Cemeteries and Funeral Home.

Owen, Patricia Tuesday, 10 Aug 2004
Patricia Jean Owen, 50, died Aug. 10.
She was born Nov. 20, 1953, at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md. She moved with her family to Federal Way in the late 1960s.
She was a 1972 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, and began a 30-year career with Weyerhaeuser in 1973, working in desktop publishing.
She was an active volunteer of Daffodil Valley Volksmarchers and was secretary of the Blacktail Ridge Homeowners Association.
Shortly before her death, she traveled to England and France, attending the 60th anniversary of D-Day remembrances. As a Beatles fan, a highlight of her trip was crossing Abbey Road in London.
Survivors include her husband, Brian Owen of Federal Way; her mother, Phyllis Paulson, sister Peggy Wolf and brother Keith Paulson, all of Federal Way; and brother Kevin Paulson of Redmond. She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Paulson.
A celebration of her life is planned for 2 p.m. Sept. 26 at Tacoma Elks Lodge, 1965 S. Union Ave.
The family suggests memorials to Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation, Nashville, Tenn.; the Commemorative Air Force Officer’s Club Building Fund in Midland, Texas; or to a charity of your choice.

Snorteland, Vern Sunday, 12 Sep 2004
Vern L. Snorteland died Sept. 12. He was 78.
He was born in Maple Leaf, S.D. on Dec. 6, 1925, and moved to Billings, Mont., in the late 1930s. In 1950, he moved to Seattle, where he married Yvonne Condell on May 1, 1953.
He retired in 1984 after a 30-year career with Pacific Northwest Bell and then AT&T.; He then began working in the siding industry. Later, he partnered with his son, Mark, working for S/C Visions until March 2004.
He was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Federal Way for more than 37 years and an avid bowler.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Yvonne; children Mark of Milton, Tony of Auburn and Diana Podoll of Maple Valley; a sister, Caroline Johnson of Langford, S.D.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sept. 18 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 2415 S. 320th St.
The family requests that donations be made in his name to Franciscan Hospice, 2901 Bridgeport Way W., University Place, WA 98466; or Calvary Lutheran Church, 2415 S. 320th St., Federal Way, WA 98003.
Arrangements are by Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial in SeaTac.
