Firnhaber, Hubert Saturday, 19 Jul 2003
Hubert Firnhaber, 72, church educator
Hubert (Hub) Otto Firnhaber died July 19.
He was 72.
He was born May 1, 1931, and moved to the Federal Way area in 1967.
For 26 years he worked as the Christian education director at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, established the preschool and kindergarten program, and served as a counselor until his retirement in 1993.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 46 years, Helen, of Des Moines; children Beth Lockard of Westchester, Pa., Bruce Firnhaber of Sammamish, Cari Ronish of Federal Way, Marci Ronish of Des Moines and Lori Hill of Shoreline; and 16 grandchildren.
Memorial services are set for 1 p.m. Aug. 7 at Community of Christ at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 515 S. 312th St., in Federal Way. Graveside services were held July 23 at St. Paul cemetery in Sherwood, Ore.
Memorials can be made to Charcot Marie Tooth Association or Children’s Ministries at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.

Ford, AJ Wednesday, 16 Jul 2003
AJ Ford died July 16 at his home in Federal Way. He was 17.
Ford was to be a senior this year at Thomas Jefferson High School.
Survivors include his parents, Rick and Jean Ford; a sister, Lea Ford; a brother, Bryan Ford; and grandparents Bill and Dot Ford.
A memorial service was held July 24 at Community of Christ at St. Luke’s, with burial at Washington Memorial cemetery in SeaTac. Arrangements were by Bonney-Watson of Federal Way.
The family suggests donations be made to Cure Autism Now, Donation, 5455 Wilshire Blvd., No. 715, Los Angeles, CA 90036.

Thornburg, Dale Wednesday, 21 May 2003
Dale Thornburg, 74, a longtime Des Moines resident, died May 21.
He was born Jan. 15, 1929 in Salem, Neb.
Survivors include numerous relatives.
A funeral service is scheduled for 3 p.m. May 28 at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial Chapel, located at 16445 Pacific Highway South in Seatac. A reception will follow at the chapel.

Westerdahl, Gordon Sunday, 18 May 2003
Gordon R. Westerdahl, 54, of Federal Way died May 18 at Harborview Hospital in Seattle.
Born April 17, 1949, he was a graduate of Federal Way High School and retired from the Federal Way school district in 1983.
Survivors include his mother, Alpha Westerdahl; brothers, George Westerdahl of Seattle and Roger Westerdahl of Camano Island; and sisters Roxanne Woodhouse of Atlanta, Ga., Marta Reeves of Auburn and Nancy Smith of Tukwila. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack.
A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. June 8 at Mountain View cemetery.

Lorenz, Tim Friday, 09 May 2003
Tim Lorenz died May 9 at his home in Federal Way. He was 59.
He was born to Julius and Margaret Lorenz in October 1943 in Valley City, N.D., where he earned his private pilot license.
He started his career in flying with American Flyers in Admore, Okla., returned to North Dakota as a charter pilot for Twin City Construction in Fargo, N.D., and moved on to Crystal Shamrock Airport in Minneapolis as a flight instructor and flight school manager.
He worked for the Federal Aviation Administration in Rapid City, S.D, Denver, Colo., Anchorage, Alaska and Seattle, where he retired in 2001 after 32 years of service.
He enjoyed camping and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Diane; sons Bryon Lorenz of Laramie, Wyo. and Joseph Lorenz of Enumclaw; daughters, Renée Hansaker of Tumwater and Mary Colby of Enumclaw; and five grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will begin at 11 a.m. May 14, followed by a reception at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Enumclaw. Arrangements are by Week’s Funeral Home of Enumclaw.

Noble, Stacey Saturday, 03 May 2003
Stacey Lynn Noble died April 29 at her home in Federal Way of natural causes. She was 27.
Survivors include her parents, Rodney and Wendy Noble; two brothers, Ben and Greg; and a sister, Courtney. All are of Federal Way.
A service is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Federal Way Stake Center, 34815 Weyerhaeuser Way.

Jackson, Marge Saturday, 03 May 2003
Port Orchard resident Marge Jackson, 80, died on May 3.
She was born Sept. 11, 1922, in Cushing, Okla.
She and her husband were members of Bethel Temple Bible School and entered the missionary field. They were pastors in Australia, Hawaii and Renton before retiring.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald; a son, Ron Jackson of Federal Way; a daughter, Donna Heath of Port Orchard; three grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.
She was preceeded in death by her mother and step-father, and three brothers and a great-grandson.

Thomas, Carolyn Sunday, 20 Apr 2003
Carolyn Marie Thomas died April 20 in Surprise, Ariz. She was 62.
Born March 10, 1941 in Chicago, Ill., she worked for the Federal Way Fire Department for 13 years and retired last fall.
Survivors include her husband, Dean; daughters Sharon Edwards and Marianne Dunbar; her mother, Myrtle Tushaus; a brother, Bernard Tushaus; stepsons Todd, Mark and Greg; and one grandson.
A memorial Mass to celebrate her life is scheduled for 10 a.m. May 2, followed by a reception at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church at 3939 SW. 331st St. in Federal Way.
The family suggests memorials be made to Federal Way Firefighters Foundation, 31617 First Ave. S., Federal Way, WA 98003.

Ferris, Richard Thursday, 17 Apr 2003
Richard Stanley Ferris Sr, a longtime Federal Way resident, died April 17 at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle. He was 60.
He was born Oct. 14, 1942 in Webster, Mass., and worked as a master carpenter at Boeing for 25 years before retiring in March.
Survivors include his children –– Tracy Liberty, Rick Ferris, Tamara Ferris and Ranen Ferris, ; brothers Michael Ferris and Stanley Ferris, both of Massachusetts; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service is set for 6 p.m. April 26 at the Pacific Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 211 Third Ave. SW., in Pacific.

Rehfeld, Eugene Saturday, 15 Feb 2003
Longtime Federal Way resident Eugene Oliver Rehfeld died Feb. 15 in Bellevue. He was 86.
Born Aug. 19, 1916 in Dilworth, Minn. to Edward and Esther Rehfeld, he lived in Federal Way for more than 30 years, where he was active in his church.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lilia; sons Michael, Joseph and Jon; daughters Marilyn Tomlin and Donna Rehfeld; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. today at Christ Lutheran Church, 2501 SW. 320th St. in Federal Way.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Children’s Hospital or Christ Lutheran Church.

Sumney, Jean Thursday, 13 Feb 2003
Jean Bernice Stembridge Sumney died Feb. 13 in Auburn. She was 85.
She was born to Arthur Cruse and Mary Elizabeth Phillips on Oct. 14, 1917 in Seattle, and grew up in the Star Lake area.
Her father served on the first Federal Way school board.
Survivors include her son, Dale Stembridge of Auburn; a daughter, Dannielle Leaverton of Auburn; a brother, Ted Cruse of Federal Way; and three grandchildren.
Inurnment was at Mountain View cemetery in Auburn.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Washington Education Association Children’s Fund, 33434 Eighth Ave. S., Federal Way, WA 98003.
Arrangements are by Covington Memorial Service.

Powers, Mary "Linda" Sunday, 09 Feb 2003
Mary “Linda” W. Powers died Feb. 9 in Federal Way. She was 90.
Born to Charles and Jane Wyckoff on May 3, 1912 in Clinton, Conn., she grew up in San Diego and Oakland, Calif. In 1934, she married Fred Powers in Carson City, Nev., where she worked for Product Development Corp. After retiring in 1969, she moved to Rockaway, Ore., where she lived until 1997, when she moved to Federal Way.
She was a past member of the Miami Cove and Fairview granges, a quilt club and Rockaway Community Church, where she taught Sunday school.
Survivors include a son, Stanley Powers of Old Lyme, Conn.; a daughter, Darlene Woodyard of Federal Way; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Inurnment was at Tillamook IOOF Columbarium.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Franciscan Hospice, in care of Franciscan Foundation for Health Care, P.O. Box 1502, Tacoma, WA 98401-98326.

Olson, Everett Sunday, 26 Jan 2003
Everett G. Olson, 80, died Jan. 26 in Tacoma.
He was born on Feb. 8, 1922 in Almont, N.D., to Hazel and Trygve Olson. He lived the past 15 years in Northeast Tacoma.
He served with the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a Federal Way-area businessman, including owning Evergone Inc., before retiring.
Survivors include his wife, Irene; nine children, two brothers, four sisters, 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family suggests remembrances be sent to John A. Kennedy Dialysis Foundation at St. Joseph Medical Center, 1717 S. J St., Tacoma, WA 98405.

Sherwood, Kenneth Monday, 13 Jan 2003
Kenneth G. Sherwood died Jan. 13 in Federal Way. He was 89.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, in 1991, and is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Jan. 17 at Washington Memorial Funeral Home in SeaTac.
The family suggests memorials be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital.
