Warbiany, Pamela Tuesday, 02 Aug 2005
Pamela Pearl Warbiany died Aug. 2. She was 59.
She was born in Chicago on April 19, 1946 to Edward and Helen Tyrakowski.
She married James Warbiany on Nov. 13, 1971 and moved in 1973 to Brookfield, Ill., where they raised Kimberly, Jason and Joshua. In 1981, the family moved to Federal Way.
Mrs. Warbiany worked for the Federal Way school district for more than 20 years.
Survivors include three grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for Aug. 20 at 4 p.m. at Brown’s Point Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a contribution to the American Cancer Society.

Monroe, Betty Sunday, 31 Jul 2005
Betty Monroe died July 31 in Federal Way.
She was 78.
She was born Feb. 18, 1927 in Stewartville, Minn., and was a 1945 Highline High School graduate.
She worked for the Federal Reserve Bank until 1958.
Survivors include her daughters, Julie and Kathy, and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Jim, and her parents.
A memorial service will be conducted at noon Aug. 14 at Grace Lutheran Church in Des Moines.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 22975 24th S. Des Moines, WA 98198; or Hope Heart Institute, 1710 Jefferson St., Seattle, WA 98122.

Turner, Wallace Monday, 25 Jul 2005
Wallace “Wally” Turner died July 25 in Palm Desert, Calif.
He was 79.
He was born in Pullman, Wash. on May 22, 1926.
He joined the Navy, serving in the Pacific during World War II.
He married Patricia Patton in 1949 and graduated from Washington State University in 1950.
A 25-year Federal Way resident, he worked for Weyerhaeuser until 1973, then bought and operated Auburn Sports and Marine until 1994.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Stanton; daughters Nancy Krueger of Federal Way and Donna Cobb of Olympia; a son, Ted Turner of Seattle, and a step-son, Greg Stanton of Federal Way; and six grandchildren.
A gathering is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 27 at Wayside United Church of Christ in Federal Way.
The family suggests that remembrances be made to Auburn Youth Resources, 1424 Auburn Way S., Auburn, WA 98002, or to Community Blood Bank, 39000 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage, CA. 92270

Woodey, Dennis Friday, 29 Jul 2005
Dennis G. Woodey died July 29. He was 64.
He was a graduate of Central Washington State University and a 29-year Boeing employee.
He was a lifelong volunteer in the Federal Way school district, a Little League baseball umpire and a coach in baseball and soccer.
Through the fabrication division at Boeing, he volunteered at the Pediatric Interim Child Care Center in Kent.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; children Scott, Erinn and Ryan; a sister, Diane Hobson of Camarillo, Calif.; and five grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Virginia of Seattle.
A celebration of his life is set for 2 p.m. Aug. 4 at Mount Baker Community Club, 2811 Mt. Rainier Drive S., in Seattle.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163 (800-708-7644), or the Franklin High School Alumni Association, P.O. Box 28276, Seattle, WA 98118.

Rittenhouse, Laurene Saturday, 16 Jul 2005
Laurene Rittenhouse of Kent died July 16 at Valley Medical Center in Renton.
She was 61.
She was born Aug. 29, 1943 in Alhambra, Calif. She married Terry Rittenhouse on Dec. 20, 1978 in Seattle.
She worked at Pacific Metallurgical in Kent.
She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and her cats.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Robert Mahan, and a daughter, Shelley Sheridan, both of Auburn; her mother, Beverly Sanders of Kent; and three grandchildren.
A private family service was held July 16.

Bruell, Edith Wednesday, 13 Apr 2005
Edith C. Bruell died April 27 at her home in Federal Way.
She was born April 13, 1921 in Coffeeville, Miss.
She was a registered nurse and moved to Federal Way with her husband, Dr. Bertold Bruell, in the early 1950s. They opened the first doctor office in Federal Way and served families of Federal Way and Auburn for nearly 40 years.
Survivors include her four children, three grandchildren, two sisters and a brother. She was preceded in death by her husband.
A private service was held at Washington Memorial Park. The family requests that remembrances be made to Franciscan Hospice, in care of St. Francis Hospital.

Stillwell, Edmund Saturday, 09 Jul 2005
Edmond L. (Doc) Stillwell died June 30 in Gig Harbor. He was 88.
He was born on March 25, 1917 on the family farm in Worland, Wyo. In his younger years, he worked on various farms and held odd jobs in Colorado and California.
He graduated in 1956 from Palmer Chiropractic College in Iowa, and maintained his own office, practicing for 23 years in Tacoma until his retirement in 1979.
During his retirement, he earned the reputation as a handyman”
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Ethel Stillwell of Gig Harbor; children William Stillwell and Gayla Dahl, both of Federal Way, Karen Lindstrom of Gig Harbor, Mack Stillwell of Omaha, Neb., and Melissa Lewis of Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Robert Stillwell of Tacoma; sisters Carrol Willenbrecht and Xelda Ditmer, both of Wyoming; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
At his request, there will be no formal services. A private family remembrance is planned.

Barbosa, Ruby Friday, 24 Jun 2005
Ruby C. Barbosa of Federal Way died June 24 at Regional Hospital in Seattle. She was 88.
She was born Feb. 21, 1917 in Portland, Ore. She married Frank Barbosa in 1939 in Seattle, and they were married 51 years until his death in 1990.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening and cooking.
Survivors include her daughters, Susan Langford of Federal Way, Judith DeLisle and Joan Hanson, both of Kent; sisters Betty Knight of Tacoma and Shirley DeHart of Douglas, Alaska; and 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents Gordon and Stella Nelson; two brothers and three sisters.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. July 9 at Riverton Crest cemetery.
At the request of the family, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Rose, A. Dee Monday, 13 Jun 2005
A. Dee Rose died June 13 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was 63.
He was born July 27, 1941 in White Salmon, Wash.
A longtime Federal Way resident, he was active in efforts to incorporate it as a city.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; children Toni Harshfield of Federal Way, David Rose of Fort Worth, Texas and Dean Tucker of Barrow, Alaska; brothers Joel Rose and Byron Rose, both of Vancouver, Wash.; a sister, Sherry Dudrey of Portland, Ore.; and three grandchildren, all of Federal Way. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Evelyn Rose, son Mark Rose and daughter Christine Rose.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. June 27 at Yahn and Son Funeral Home, 55 W. Valley Hwy. in Auburn. Graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. June 28 at Mountain View cemetery, followed by a video presentation and reception at Federal Way Church of Christ, 30012 Military Road.

Dodge, Christopher Sunday, 12 Jun 2005
Christopher Eric Dodge of Federal Way died June 12 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was 26.
He was born Dec. 26, 1978, was raised in Normandy Park and was educated in the Highline School District.
He was a network engineer for Speakeasy.
Survivors include his daughter, Rebecca “Becca” Marie Dodge; his fiancee, Cari Moffett, and their expected child; parents Clark and Kathy Dodge, who recently moved to Hawaii from Normandy Park; a brother, Tate, of Federal Way; and a sister, Tiffany, of Hawaii.
Commemorative services will be conducted at 1 p.m. June 20 at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial, 16445 International Blvd., in SeaTac. An on-line guest book is at www.bonneywatson.com
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Children of Christopher Dodge educational fund at any Sterling Savings Bank location.

Knutzen, John Monday, 13 Jun 2005
John Knutzen died June 13.
He was born July 23, 1942 to Victor and Margaret Knutzen, and grew up on Steel Lake in Federal Way. He was a 1960 graduate of Federal Way High School, where he was active in varsity sports and was student body president.
He accepted a nomination to the U.S. Military Academy, graduating with honors from West Point in 1964. He went on to earn a master of science degree in civil engineering and a master of business administration from University of California-Berkley.
As an officer in the Army Corps of Engineers, he commanded units from platoon through battalion during his 20-plus years of military service, including two tours in Vietnam. He also taught at West Point and served in Germany and at the Pentagon, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Following retirement from the Army, he and his family relocated to San Diego, Calif., where he started a second career as a civil engineer. He worked for Nolte and Associates before starting his own firm, John Knutzen and Associates. He served as the local president of the Society of American Military Engineers, received the Rotarian of the Year award from the Kearny Mesa Rotary Club, was named Father of the Year by the San Diego MS Society and served as chairman of the Finance Commission at Palisades Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Lenore; daughters Kristina Schmitt, Kerrie and Kimberly; his mother, Margaret; a brother, Jerry; a sister, Ingrid Gintz, and one granddaughter, all of Federal Way; and a brother, Jim, of Jacksonville, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the San Diego MS Society, 8840 Complex Drive, Suite 130, San Diego, CA 92123.

Radcliffe, Lola Friday, 20 May 2005
Lola Virginia Radcliffe died May 20 at Avalon Healthcare in Federal Way. She was 78.
While living in Wichita, Kan., she had a 35-year career in labor relations for Boeing until her retirement in 1981.
Survivors include sons Dale Herman of Federal Way and Richard Herman of Enumclaw, step-daughter Linda Ortiz of Kent, sisters Bonnie Chinn and Betty Lutz, both of Kansas, and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husbands Emmett Herman (married in 1943) and Joseph Radcliffe (married in 1982), parents, Lester Glendale and Susie Bell Freeman, and three brothers and three sisters.
In lieu of a service or flowers, the famly suggests a memorial be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., Sixth Floor, New York, NY 10001.
