David Roy Bjornson
Aug. 26, 1950 -- Sept. 18, 2006
Former Port Angeles resident David Roy Bjornson of Enumclaw died at 56.
Services: Friday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m., memorial in Ocean View cemetery Chapel, 3127 W. 18th St., Port Angeles. Pastor Doug Peterson will officiate. A reception will follow at the home of Olga Atkinson, 1009 W. Sixth St., Port Angeles.
Weeks Funeral Home, Enumclaw, is in charge.

Albert H. Roush
Sept. 7, 1918 -- Sept. 22, 2006
Albert H. Roush died of cancer in Sequim. He was 88.
Mr. Roush was born to Albert Jasper and Anna Frances (Hollister) Roush in Hanover, Ohio.
He married Ramona Conner in Seattle on Dec. 19, 1941.
Mr. Roush was in the Army from 1941 to 1945, rising to staff sergeant.
He was a real estate agent in San Jose, Calif., before moving to Sequim in 1981.
He was a member of the Sequim Elk Lodge and Masons.
Survivors include his wife of Sequim; son Phillip Roush of Port Angeles; daughters Leslie Zugg of Sequim, Marcella Harrington of Whidbey Island and Rebecca Roush of Seattle; brother Ethan Roush of Quilcene; sister Rachel Bard of Vashon Island; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son Martin Roush, who died on Sept. 22, 1981, exactly 25 years before Mr. Roush's death, and sister Ann Roush.
Services: None. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Pauline G. Thornton-Wiley
March 27, 1921 -- Sept. 25, 2006
Pauline G. Thorton-Wiley died of age-related causes at Port Angeles Care Center. She was 85.
Mrs. Thornton-Wiley was born to Paul Frank and Eleanor Pauline (Donlan) Mayer in Seattle.
She married Jack Donald Thornton in 1950 in Seattle. He died Nov. 11, 1989.
She lived in Issaquah and Kirkland in her early years, moving later to Aberdeen, Forks and Port Angeles.
She enjoyed playing rummy and dancing.
She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Seattle and Eagles.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Jackie and Wendi Thornton; daughter-in-law Jolie Thornton; daughters and sons-in-law Christina and Jeff Lehrkind and Sandy and David Schroeder; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by son Ricky Thornton and brothers David and Bernie Mayer.

Gordon Wallace Umbehocker
Jan. 31, 1928 -- Sept. 28, 2006
Gordon Wallace Umbehocker of Port Angeles died of heart failure. He was 78.
He was born in Princeton, Minn., to Charles and Ina Marie (Hill) Umbehocker.
He enlisted in the Coast Guard on Sept. 11, 1946, and served until his retirement as chief warrant officer on Aug. 1, 1969.
His specialties were electronics, mechanics and technical engineering. One year of his active duty was at Marcus Island in the northwest Pacific Ocean.
Mr. Umbehocker married Margaret Joyce Curnow on June 23, 1947, in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
The Umbehockers moved to Port Angeles in 1963.
He enjoyed square dancing and was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Michael G. and Carol Umbehocker of Federal Way and Kenneth M. and Teresa Umbehocker of Port Angeles; daughter and son-in-law Curt and Lori Madison of Port Angeles; brother and sister-in-law Duane and Christine Ries of Tenino; sister and brother-in-law Betty and Kenneth Amdall of Naperville, Ill.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services: Private family graveside service in Mount Angeles Memorial Park, U.S. Highway 101 and Monroe Road, Port Angeles. The Rev. Kenneth Dooley of First United Methodist Church will officiate.
Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials: Charity of choice.

Suzanne V. Cummings
Suzanne passed away on Sept. 26, 2006, at the University of Washington Medical Center of respiratory failure.
Suzanne was born in Lewiston, Idaho, on July 15, 1937, to Ira E. and Evelyn M. Cummings, their first born. She was joined by sister, Diane, brother Gray and sister Mary Christine.
Suzanne's family moved to Bainbridge Island in 1943.
During her growing up years, Suzanne loved swimming and baseball; she always wished there were more sports for girls and competed with the boys whenever she could, a real tomboy.
Suzanne married Dean Hanson in 1954 and moved to Southern California.
They had four children: Laura, Jenny, Keith and Daniel.
Suzanne and her children moved to Port Angeles in 1966.
Suzanne loved watching her grandchildren participate in sports, dance and music. She was a beautiful seamstress, great cook and an immaculate housekeeper.
She loved to walk her dog, Mesia, and friends.
Suzanne enjoyed going to garage sales, gardening, old movies and music. She sang with the Community Choir and, in recent years, with the senior singers.
Suzanne ran a bed and breakfast for a few years and loved becoming friends with her guests.
She was the Bulk Foods Manager at Market Foods, a job she truly loved. She also enjoyed her jobs at Willi-Lou's and in the Clallam County Planning Department.
Suzanne had a deep commitment to the environment, was an active recycler and refused to use chemicals harmful to the environment.
Suzanne is survived by her siblings, Diane Terry, Gary Cummings (Shirley) and Mary Christine Cummings; her children: Laura Casad (Greg), Jenny Konopaski (Jefferey), and Daniel Hanson.
She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Lindsey, Shannon, Jamie, Kacey and Greg Casad, Joshua (wife Heather), Kristi Jacobs and Jordyn Konopaski; and six great-grandchildren: Jesse, Julienne, Brooklynne and Brodey Jacobs, Elih Casad and Tayler Casad.
Ms. Cumming was preceded in death by her parents and son, Keith Dean Hanson.
Funeral services will be held on Oct. 5, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Harper Ridgeview Funeral Home.
Viewing is available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., preceding the service.

Mildred Pearl McLean
Aug. 6, 1913 -- Sept. 30, 2006
Mildred Pearl McLean of Sequim died in Olympic Care and Rehabilitation Center of age-related causes following a stroke. She was 93.
She was born in Roundup, Mont., to Bert A. and Ora I (Corbin) Harris.
She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Port Angeles with the class of 1931, which just celebrated its 75th reunion.
She married Dean K. McLean Sr. in Port Angeles on Oct. 4, 1934.
Mrs. McLean lived in Port Angeles until 1974, when she moved to Sequim.
She was co-owner of Boulevard Grocery in 1942-44 and of Dean's Market in 1946-74. She was also co-owner of Dean's Trailer Sales in 1963-88.
In addition to being an accomplished artist, Mrs. McLean enjoyed flower gardening and traveling.
She was a longtime member of Fairview Grange. She also belonged to the Sequim chapter of Children's Hospital Guild and Trinity United Methodist Church.
Mildred Pearl McLean is survived by daughter-in-law Julia McLean and son and daughter-in-law Dean Jr. and Vonnie, all of Sequim. Son Kenneth Harris died in 1946; 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband died in 1996, son Larry McLean died in 2002 and daughter Mary Lee Burke died in 1988.
Services: Saturday, Oct. 7, 1 p.m., graveside service in Mount Angeles Memorial Park, U.S. Highway 101 and Monroe Road, Port Angeles. A reception will follow in Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., Sequim.
Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Lola Jean Merchant
Jan. 26, 1938 -- Sept. 26, 2006
Lifelong North Olympic Peninsula resident Lola Jean Merchant died in Port Angeles of respiratory failure. She was 68.
She was born in Port Townsend to John William and Idella Mae (Hirschel) Barkhurst, grew up in Port Hadlock and attended Chimacum School through the 10th grade.
She married Wayne Merchant in Irondale in 1958.
At age 20, she gave birth to the first of nine children.
At various times, she lived in Port Townsend, Port Hadlock, Irondale, Sekiu, Sequim and Port Angeles.
Mrs. Merchant considered being a grandmother the highlight of her life.
She also loved her pet bird, Orbit, and enjoyed lilacs and roses, stuffed animals, watching television, shopping for jewelry and doing word-search puzzles.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law John Wayne and Connie Merchant of Port Townsend, Robert William and Jeanie Merchant of Longview, Russell Lee and Kadidia Merchant of Philadelphia, Lawrence Curtis and Tony Merchant of Yuma, Ariz., and James Daren and Cindy Merchant of Marysville.
Also surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Lorraine Jean and Douglas Guenther of Port Ludlow and Sharon Louise and Herbert Earley of Everett; brother Ralph William Barkhurst of Port Hadlock; brother and sister-in-law Raymond Wayne and Estella Barkhurst of Seattle; sister and brother-in-law Della Mae and Finley Lowe of Port Hadlock; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter in 1961 and Penny Marrie Merchant in 1964.
Services: Saturday, Oct. 7, 11 a.m., memorial in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 10104 Rhody Drive, Chimacum.
