Mary Margrat Hordyk
May 11, 1928 -- Aug. 2, 2006
Former Clallam County Auditor Mary Margrat Hordyk of Port Angeles died at 78. No cause of death was given.
She was born to George and Sadie (Kaleele) Sarkis in Bath, Maine, where she graduated from Morse High School.
She married John H. Hordyk in Portland, Maine, on Jan. 5, 1945.
Mrs. Hordyk, who moved to Port Angeles in 1952, graduated from Bates Business College.
She worked for J.C. Penney, Port Angeles Library and Angeles Furniture before joining the Clallam County Auditor's Office in 1966.
Mrs. Hordyk was election supervisor until appointed as county auditor in 1982; she retired in 1994.
She was a member of the Democratic Party, serving as a precinct committee officer for 40 years. For eight years, she chaired the Clallam County Democratic Central Committee.
Additionally, she held office in the City-County Public Employees Union, State Auditor's Association and Retired Public Employees Union.
While her family was growing up, Mrs. Hordyk was a leader in both Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts.
At Queen of Angels Parish, she was Catholic Youth Organization director, School Board member and parish librarian.
Mrs. Hordyk, who enjoyed spending leisure time at Lake Crescent, participated in waterskiing and snow skiing. She also liked cooking and traveling.
In addition to traveling to international destinations, her interest in baseball games of the Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners was marked by more than 10 years of going to Arizona to attend Mariners spring training.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Kenneth and Cindy Hordyk of Santa Rosa, Calif.; daughter Jean Hordyk of Port Angeles; daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Dennis Arnold of Marietta, Ga.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers Ernie, George, Henry and Author Sarkis, sister Sally Weinberg and grandson Mark Arnold.
Services: Aug. 14, 7 p.m., rosary in Queen of Angels Roman Catholic Church, 209 W. 11th St., Port Angeles.
Memorial Mass on Aug. 16, 11 a.m., also in Queen of Angels. The Rev. Kurt Nagel will be in charge. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Natalie B. Pattison
Feb. 8, 1918 -- July 26, 2006
Natalie B. Pattison of Sequim died of age-related causes. She was 88.
She was born in Hudson, N.H., to Lester Ward and Carrie (Keysar) Batchelder.
She married Lawrence William Pattison, who was with the U.S. Forest Service, in Plymouth, N.H., in May 1942.
Mrs. Pattison, who held a master's degree in education from the University of Northern Arizona and a master's degree in archaeology from the University of New Mexico, was an educator and researcher in Arizona and New Mexico.
Her personal interests focused on whitewater rafting, traveling and any aspect of anthropology.
She was a member of Southwest Forest Service Amigos, Archaeological Society of New Mexico and a retired archivist at Maxwell Museum, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Wayne L and Lynette Pattison of Kenai, Alaska; daughters Linda Marie Sentner of Kennebunk, Maine, and Jennifer Pattison of Poway, Calif.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Her husband died in January 1986.
Services: Aug. 26, 10 a.m., memorial at Fifth Avenue Retirement Center, 500 Hendrickson Road, Sequim
A service also will be held Oct. 8, 1:30 p.m., in the University of New Mexico Chapel, Albuquerque, N.M.
Olympic Cremation Association, Port Angeles, was in charge.
Memorials: Hospice of Clallam County, P.O. Box 2014, Port Angeles, WA 98362; or other hospice organization.

Arlene Purser
June 8, 1935 -- July 28, 2006
Arlene Purser of Hoh River died of health-related issues. She was 71.
Born in LaPush to Charles and Leila (Penn) Sailto, she attended Queets School.
In addition to being a homemaker, in which children and grandchildren were her priority, Mrs. Purser -- who was a member of the Hoh tribe -- was a basket weaver.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Walter and Katherine Ward of Forks; daughter Mildred Potter of Ocean Shores; nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services: Sunday, Aug. 6, memorial in Forks cemetery. Phone 360-374-3213 for time of service. The reception will be in the Hoh River Community Center gym.
Mount Olympus Funeral Home, Forks, is in charge of arrangements.

Deanna Lee Sternbeck
Nov. 9, 1939 -- July 30, 2006
Deanna Lee Sternbeck of Forks died of a stroke and heart attack. She was 66.
She was born in Oregon City, Ore., to Lawrence Edward and Margie Amelia (Buckner) Rice.
She married Terry Sternbeck.
Mrs. Sternbeck, who was a trained musician and lived in Twin Oaks Adult Family Home at Forks, liked to crochet.
Survivors include son Rodney Rinkes; daughter and son-in-law Rikki and Jim Chamberlan of Stevenson; sister and brother-in-law Joyce and Jack Rice of Phoenix; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Her husband died in April 2003.
Services: None. Olympic Cremation Association, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Evelyn Baker
Feb. 13, 1924 -- July 21, 2006
Ruth Evelyn Baker of Sequim died in Olympic Medical Center, Port Angeles, of age-related causes. She was 82.
She was born in Missouri Valley, Iowa, to Henry Frank and Nellie Marie (Godden) Longmeyer.
She married John D. Baker in Santa Ana, Calif., on June 2, 1967.
Mrs. Baker is survived by her husband; daughters Wanda Hawkins, Teresa Brandenburger, Julie Parks and Peggy Brandenburger; brother Gene Longmeyer; sister Ina Smith; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services: None. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Roberta `Bebe' Camporini
Aug. 6, 1933 -- July 25, 2006
Roberta ``Bebe" Camporini died in Crestwood Convalescent Center, Port Angeles, of Alzheimer's disease. She was 72.
She was born in Port Angeles to Michael and Elizabeth (Oxenford) Schmitt, attended Queen of Angels School and graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1951.
She worked for the J. Lyle Beam Agency before her marriage to Richard Joseph Camporini on June 28, 1952.
The Camporinis moved to Cheyenne, Wyo., while he was in the Air Force, then returned to Port Angeles, where she continued as a wife and mother.
The couple, married for 54 years, lived on Lake Crescent, and she enjoyed hunting, fishing, clamdigging and all water sports.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Camporini's survivors are son Richard Camporini Jr. and daughter and son-in-law Elise and Jerry Allen, all of Port Angeles; daughter and son-in-law Lois ``Sudi" and Gary McLaughlin of Gig Harbor; and daughter Doris Allen.
Also surviving are three sisters, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, the Rev. Michael Schmitt.
Services: Sunday, July 30, 7 p.m., rosary in Queen of Angels Roman Catholic Church, 209 W. 11th St., Port Angeles.
Funeral Mass on Monday, July 31, 11 a.m., in the church, with a reception immediately following.
Graveside service on Monday, July 31, 1:45 p.m., at Mount Angeles Memorial Park, U.S. Highway 101 and Monroe Road, Port Angeles.
Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Tawawa `Butch' Carter
Jan. 24, 1929 -- July 18, 2006
Former Sequim resident Tawawa ``Butch" Carter of Lacy died as the result of a heart condition. She was 77.
She was born in Earlsboro, Okla., to Clarence A. and B. ``Bertha" (Hickley) Ayers.
She married Charles ``Chuck" Carter in Shawnee, Okla., on Jan. 11, 1945.
The Carters lived in Alaska and Oklahoma until they moved to Sequim in the early 1970s.
They moved from the North Olympic Peninsula in 1990.
She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post 4760 and the Military Order of the Cooties Association, Pup Tent 26.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law Tawawa and Joe Borden of Sequim, Susan and Fred Hutchison of Elma and Melissa and Matt Bielawski of Lake Stevens; sister Norm Ayers of Shawnee, Okla.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Her husband died June 30, 1989.
Services: None. Burial will be in Angeles Memorial Park, Anchorage, Alaska.
Funeral Alternatives of Washington is in charge.

Zachary James Pearson-Cary
July 15, 2006 -- July 15, 2006
Zachary James ``Zach" Pearson-Cary was stillborn at Swedish Hospital in Seattle.
He was the son of Cheryl V. Pearson and Ronald C. Carey Jr. of Port Angeles.
Zach is also survived by uncle Robert James Jackson; aunts Judi Rogers, Debra Whitley and Rhonda J. Horn; grandfather Ronald C. Carey Sr.; grandmother Cynthia J. Pearson; great-grandmother Earleen Pearson; and several cousins -- all of Port Angeles.
Services: Private graveside service in Mount Angeles Memorial Park, U.S. Highway 101 and Monroe Road, Port Angeles.
