Frank Stuart Palmer
May 26, 1920 -- June 4, 2006
Frank Stuart Palmer of Port Angeles died of a stroke. He was 86.
He was born in Thornton to Harry and Margaret (Byers) Palmer.
After graduating from high school, he earned a bachelor's degree from Washington State University.
From 1942 to 1966, Mr. Palmer served in the armed forces, from which he retired as an Air Force colonel.
During World War II, he served with the Flying Tigers under Gen. Claire Lee Chennault's 14th Air Force Command.
Following his service, Col. Palmer lived in Spokane, Seattle and Sequim while working as a bank controller, restaurant owner and businessman.
Col. Palmer was a member of Footprinters, Sequim Elks Peninsula Friends of Animals and the Humane Society.
He married Anne Schodolsky in Spokane in 1947.
He married Sharon Louise Anderson on Oct. 7, 1978.
In addition to his wife, Sharon, Col. Palmer's survivors include son Nick St. George of Bellevue; daughters Sharon Macklin of Kirkland, Charlene Knoll of Renton, Linnea Churlin of Monroe and Lisa Bohman of Des Moines; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by brother Orie Palmer and sisters Lena Wilkerson and Faye Palmer.
Services: Monday, June 12, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., visitation in Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles. The funeral will begin at 1 p.m.
A reception will follow in Sequim Community Church, 950 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim.
Tuesday, June 13, at 1 p.m., graveside committal in Tahoma National cemetery, 18600 S.E. 240th St., Kent, with full military honors by McChord Air Base, Tacoma.
Memorials: Peninsula Friends of Animals, P.O. Box 404, Sequim, WA 98382. The family requests no flowers.

Theodore E. Peterson
March 5, 1915 -- June 3, 2006
Theodore E. Peterson died in his Sequim home of heart-related causes. He was 91.
He was born in Durango, Colo., to Theodore E. and Ruth (Eddy) Peterson II and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Port Angeles in 1933.
Enlisting in the Navy on July 12, 1938, he served until Feb. 3, 1958, and was a machinist commissioned as a warrant officer.
Mr. Peterson saw duty in both the United States and Pacific Theater.
After retirement from the Navy, he worked for National Steel and Shipbuilding Co. near San Diego for 20 years, before he returned to Washington and settled in Sequim.
Mr. Peterson was a 32nd-degree Mason as well as a member of Shrine and Elks, Military Officers Association of America, Retired Officers Association, Fleet Reserve Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was married to Dorothy Manley, who died in 1978.
He married Betty M. Weller Averill on Jan. 2, 1983, in Port Angeles.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Peterson's survivors include stepson and stepdaughter-in-law Rex T. and Linda Averill of Port Angeles and three step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers Raymond Peterson and Harold Peterson.
Services: None. A memorial plaque will be placed in his honor at Tahoma National cemetery, 18600 SE 24th St., Kent.

Russell Lynn Frost
Oct. 25, 1922 -- May 27, 2006
Russell Lynn Frost of Port Angeles died of cancer. He was 83.
He was born in Yakima to Clem and Edna (Farnham) Frost. He worked for the food company Del Monte at the age of 10.
Mr. Frost graduated from J.M. Perry Technical Institute in Yakima, achieving first place in his welding class, then was employed in a shipyard in 1939.
During four years of active duty with the Navy, he served aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard during World War II, fighting with the Third Fleet in Okinawa and in air raids on Japan.
In 1949, he moved to Orange County, Calif., where he owned Portable Steel Works and operated as a journeyman welder.
Mr. Frost married Czarina Mary Ramsay in Santa Ana, Calif., on Dec. 2, 1950.
He moved to Port Angeles in 1973. He retired from employment with Merrill & Ring Timber.
Mr. Frost enjoyed staying close to his farm, where he pursued building and fabricating projects.
As a journeyman welder and fabricator, he belonged to the International Union of Operating Engineers. He was also a member of Dry Creek Grange.
Survivors include son Bruce Frost of Eatonville; daughter and son-in-law Susan and J.R. ``Marvin" Witherow of Port Angeles; brother and sister-in-law Dale and Jean Frost of California; sister-in-law Mary Frost of Oregon; six grandchildren and one step-grandson.
Mr. Frost's wife died April 22, 2002. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, brother Don Frost and sister Opal Frost.
Services: Memorial service to be announced. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles, is in charge.
Memorials: Charity of choice.

Frank Stuart Palmer
May 26, 1920 -- June 4, 2006
Retired Air Force Col. Frank Stuart Palmer of Sequim died in Olympic Medical Center, Port Angeles.
Services: Monday, June 12, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., visitation in Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles, immediately preceding the 1 p.m. funeral.
Then on Tuesday, June 13, at 1 p.m., graveside committal in Tahoma National cemetery, 18600 S.E. 24th St., Kent. Full military honors will be provided by McChord Air Force Base.

Robert E. `Bob' Roberts
Feb. 29, 1928 -- May 24, 2006
Robert E. ``Bob" Roberts died in Forks Community Hospital of multiple causes including diabetes and heart-related conditions. He was 78.
He was born in Seattle to Ellis A. and May (Faulk) Roberts.
He completed high school in Naselle, then attended Clark College in Vancouver, Wash., for his associate degree.
From 1947 to 1970, Mr. Roberts served with the Navy, retiring as a carrier fighter pilot with the rank of commander. During the Korean War, he flew the F-4U Corsair; during the Vietnam War, he piloted F-8 Crusaders.
He married Sylvia Watkins in Vancouver, Wash., on June 2, 1951.
Following military service, he was an oil distributor in Forks, where he pioneered helicopter logging on the Olympic Peninsula and also owned a log truck.
Mr. Roberts, who was an associate member of EAA Flying, belonged to the Tailhook, F-8 Crusader and Military Officers associations; and served two six-year terms as a commissioner on the board of Clallam County Fire Protection District No. 6 on the West End.
Survivors include his wife; son Bruce Roberts of Port Angeles; daughter Robin Newbry of Wenatchee; sisters Shirley Prior of Forks and Ruth Bell of Boulder, Colo.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services: At his request, none. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, was in charge of cremation.

Mary Keeling Thornburgh
Feb. 24, 1912 -- June 6, 2006
Mary Keeling Thornburgh died in Port Angeles at age 94.
Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Christopher Mark `Kit' Loomis
May 9, 1944 -- May 27, 2006
Christopher Mark ``Kit" Loomis died of a heart attack in his Port Ludlow home. He was 62.
He was born in Seattle to Doyle and Shirley (Senter) Loomis and graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1962.
After joining the Army in 1965, Mr. Loomis, who was rated first in his class of 200, was selected for promotion to sergeant.
While on active duty, the numerous decorations he received included the Bronze Star.
After military service, he returned to Bainbridge Island, where he started a construction business.
He enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting and fishing both locally and in Alaska. He also was a skilled teacher, storyteller and photographer.
Mr. Loomis is survived by son and daughter-in-law Rob and Chelsea Loomis of Eugene, Ore.; daughter and son-in-law Alysha and Todd Falk of Vancouver, Wash.; mother and stepfather Bob Storm and brother and sister-in-law Greg and Joy Loomis, all of Poulsbo; sisters and brothers-in-law Vicky Lynch and Bill Priest of Kingston and Julie Loomis and Don Desallier of Selah; and eight grandchildren.
Services: None. Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend, is in charge.

Loretta McCool
June 22, 1911 -- June 3, 2006
Loretta McCool of Sequim died in Port Angeles of heart disease. She was 94.
She was born in Seneca, Kan., to Joseph M. and Mary E. (Buening) Wempe.
She married Stanton A. McCool in Topeka, Kan., on Aug. 16, 1937.
In 1944, Mrs. McCool moved to Elma, where she raised three children and supported her husband's 50-year medical career.
She came to the North Olympic Peninsula in 1996.
Mrs. McCool -- who enjoyed golfing, playing bridge and spending time with close friends -- was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Port Angeles.
Survivors include sons Michael F. and Kerry McCool, both of Port Angeles; daughter Kathleen Sargent of Sequim; daughter and son-in-law Maura and Dr. Roger Oakes of Port Angeles; sister Jean Kuckelman of Frankfurt, Kan.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Her husband died Oct. 22. 2002.
Mrs. McCool was also preceded by brother Dr. Gerard Wempe and sisters Catherine Edelman, Theo McDonough and Patricia Wempe.
Services: Private memorial Mass with the Rev. Kurt Nagel celebrating. Burial will be in Mount Angeles Memorial Park, U.S. Highway 101 and Monroe Road, Port Angeles.
Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials: Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 209 W. 11th St., Port Angeles, WA 98362; or Hospice of Clallam County, P.O. Box 2014, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
