Ernest Lyman Camfield Jr.
April 23, 1917 -- May 17, 2006
Ernest Lyman Camfield Jr. of Port Townsend, died of a heart attack in Jefferson Healthcare hospital. He was 89.
Mr. Camfield, the youngest of 11 children, was born in Salem, Ore., to Ernest Lyman and Mary Jane (Custer) Camfield Sr.
He moved to Port Townsend in 1929.
Other than time with the Army in 1941-45, he worked at the Crown Zellerbach paper mill in Port Townsend from 1935 until his retirement.
Mr. Camfield was active in the Elks Lodge, including serving as secretary, exalted ruler and Elk of the Year.
In the latter part of life, his pastimes included watching movies, eating cookies and telling jokes -- when he wasn't using his computer.
Mr. Camfield married Rita Pearl Weiss on Feb. 14, 1948. She died in January 1989.
His marriage in April 1990 to June Audrey Prange ended with her death in January 2002.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Hervey and Julie Camfield of Puyallup and Russell and Donna Camfield of Irondale; daughters and sons-in-law Lucie and Gilbert Carter of Kelso and Debbie and Lewis Hall of Port Angeles; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services: Today, May 19, 1 p.m., memorial in Kosec Funeral Home Chapel, 1615 Parkside Drive, Port Townsend, with the Rev. Wendell Ankeny of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating.
Private burial was in Laurel Grove cemetery.
Memorials: Any Elks organization or other charity of choice.

Valija Kalnins
Oct. 18, 1909 -- May 16, 2006
Valija Kalnins of Sequim died in Port Angeles of pneumonia. She was 96.
Born in Riga, Latvia, she and her husband sailed from Bremen, Germany, to New York in 1946 with passports issued in Stuttgart, Germany.
They were allowed to enter the country because her husband, who was a chemical engineer, designed air-conditioning for the first spacesuit.
Mrs. Kalnins, who became a U.S. citizen in 1952, was a homemaker and a secretary in Connecticut, where she was a member of the American Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manchester.
She also lived in Pennsylvania before moving to Sequim in 1984 with longtime friends who accompanied her to America.
Her husband died in 1970.
Mrs. Kalnins, who was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Sequim, helped with the church library. She also liked studying the Bible and doing needlepoint.
As her health failed, Mrs. Kalnins resided in Crestwood Convalescent Center in Port Angeles.
Aside from nephews in Latvia and a brother-in-law in Ontario, she is survived by her adopted families Lee and Bob Glas of Port Angeles and Henry and Bunny Brahlit of Sequim.
Services: None. Burial will be in Grove Hill cemetery, Vernon, Conn.
Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials: Faith Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 925, Sequim, WA 98382.

Karie Ann Olin
June 20, 1970 -- May 15, 2006
Karie Ann Olin died in her Port Townsend home at age 35.
She was born in Seattle to Steven A. and Patricia Ann (Tucker) Becht and graduated from Port Townsend High School in 1989.
She married Don Olin in Port Townsend on Oct. 24, 1992. They divorced in 2001.
Mrs. Olin enjoyed writing and was a published poet as well as an administrative professional.
Mrs. Olin is survived by her daughters Kassie Marie Olin and Kaila Alyann Olin; mother and stepfather Ann and Gary Schryver; brother Travis Schryver; sister and brother-in-law Tabitha and Scott Resch of Monroe; and grandparents Don and Edna Tucker and Arlene Mead of Shelton.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Services: Monday, May 22, 1 p.m., funeral in Kosec Funeral Home, 1615 Parkside Drive, Port Townsend.
Graveside committal will follow in Greenwood cemetery. Carl Hansen will officiate.

Edward Archie Quillen
April 30, 1931 -- May 11, 2006
Edward Archie Quillen of Forks died of ventricular tachycardia. He was 75.
Services: Saturday, May 20, 1 p.m., funeral in St. Anne's Catholic Church, 531 Fifth Ave., Forks. Mount Olympus Funeral Home of Forks is in charge of arrangements.

Edward A. Quillen
April 30, 1931 -- May 11, 2006
Edward A. Quillen died in his Port Angeles residence of a heart attack. He was 75.
He was born in Conroe, Texas, to Archie M. and Richard (Smith) Quillen.
He married Jean B. Stevenson.
Mr. Quillen served with the Navy in Japan, Korea and the Philippines.
In addition to completing lineman school, he was employed by Elmhurst Mutual Power and Light and Prudential Insurance in Tacoma.
Gardening, hunting and fishing were among his favorite activities.
Mr. Quillen was a member of St. John of the Woods Church in Tacoma and St. Anne's Catholic Church in Forks.
He had also belonged to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Elks and National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife; son Mark E. Quillen of Yakima, Patrick Quillen of Tacoma and Allen E. Quillen of Gig Harbor; daughters and sons-in-law Mary Ann and John Howard of Tacoma, and Denice and Dan Walrehammer of Spokane; daughter Jeannine Walker of Spokane; brother Ray Quillen of Hereford, Texas; and sister Gladys Woods of Lubbock, Texas.
He is also survived by five grandchildren.
Services: Saturday, May 20, 1 p.m., funeral in St. Anne's Catholic Church, 531 Fifth Ave., Forks. The Rev. Kurt Nagel will preside.
Burial will be in Forks cemetery. Mount Olympus Funeral Home of Forks is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials: Port Angeles Kidney Center, 809 Georgiana St., Port Angeles, WA 98362.

Charles Willard Smith
Oct. 1, 1917 -- May 8, 2006
Charles Willard Smith of Sequim died in Port Angeles of pneumonia. He was 88.
He was born in Poteau, Okla., to Grover and Laura (Gourley) Smith.
First Lt. Smith served in the Army Air Corps, flying as a B-24 navigator, in the European Theater of World War II.
As a bookkeeper and certified public accountant, he owned a tax preparation service in Seattle.
Mr. Smith enjoyed reading the Bible, farming and fishing. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
preceded in death by spouses Helen and Jeannie, he is survived by his friend and caregiver Peggy A. Word and sister-in-law Patricia Jones of Mill Creek.
Services: None. Burial will be in Mount Angeles Memorial Park, Port Angeles.
Sequim Valley Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials: Faith Baptist Church, P.O. Box 3936, Sequim, WA 98382.

Jack Curtis Stewart
Sept. 28, 1919 -- May 1, 2006
Jack Curtis Stewart of Sequim died in Port Angeles Care Center of dementia. He was 86.
Services: None. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Magdalena S. Brown
Feb. 6, 1913 -- May 16, 2006
Magdalena S. Brown of Port Angeles died in Crestwood Convalescent Center. She was 93.
Services: Monday, May 22, 2 p.m., graveside service in Evergreen Washelli Memorial Park, 11111 Aurora Ave. N., Seattle.
Then on Tuesday, May 23, at 11:30 a.m., memorial in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Ave., Port Angeles.
Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, 260 Monroe Road, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Cornelius `Con' Miller
April 9, 1938 -- May 16, 2006
Cornelius ``Con" Miller of Port Townsend died of stomach cancer. He was 68.
He was born in Hafford, Saskatchewan, to Jacob and Agnes (Fehr) Miller.
He was a roll grinder at the pulp and paper mill in Camas, and faithful union member.
He retired to Port Townsend in 2001.
Mr. Miller, who was known for friendliness, kept himself busy with projects that ranged from boating to flying and tending his property.
He is survived by brother Dan of Courtenay, British Columbia, and sisters Betty Winmill, Ann Miller and Helen Miller, all of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Services: Private family memorial in Big River, Saskatchewan.
Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend is in charge.
Memorials: American Cancer Society, 2120 First Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98109.

Patricia Lavonne Bishop
Feb. 15, 1928 -- May 13, 2006
Patricia Lavonne Bishop of Port Angeles died of age-related causes in Olympic Medical Center. She was 78.
She was born to Emmett and Ruth (Hill) Reinken in Yakima.
She married Elmer H. Bishop in Yakima on Sept. 24, 1950.
Mrs. Bishop, who worked as a postal clerk in Seattle during the 1960s, also was a homemaker in Virginia and California before returning to Seattle in 1979.
She moved to Port Angeles in 1988.
In addition to being with her family, she enjoyed needlework and reading.
Mrs. Bishop was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and of Alpha Lodge.
Survivors include her husband; son Richard E. Bishop of Kendrick, Idaho; son Ronald H. Bishop and daughter Susan C. Randall, both of Port Orchard; daughter Patricia Ann Iliff of Rawlins, Wyo., 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brother Robert E. Reinken.
Services: Thursday, May 18, 1:15 p.m., graveside committal in Tahoma National cemetery, 18600 S.E. 240th St., Kent.
Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials: Northwest Kidney Center, 700 Broadway, Seattle, WA 98122; or charity of choice.
