Kathryn G. Spencer
Oct. 26, 1919 -- Dec. 15, 2005
Port Angeles resident Kathryn G. Spencer died in a vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 101 between Port Angeles and Sequim. She was 86.
She was born in Great Falls, Mont., to Frank and Eva (McDonald) Osborne.
After completing her secondary education and graduating from business school, she was a secretary, Clallam County deputy sheriff, bookkeeper for the city of Port Angeles, and a receptionist/switchboard operator at the Rayonier pulp mill in Port Angeles.
Her Port Angeles marriage in October 1942 to Rudy Anich ended in divorce.
She married Gilbert Spencer in Port Angeles on July 1, 1960. He died June 15, 1991.
Mrs. Spencer, who loved dogs and was a member of the Good Sam Club, favored outdoor activities such as clamming at Kalaloch, berry picking, horseback riding and camping.
She also enjoyed family gatherings, playing bridge and other card games, collecting recipes and cooking, square dancing, bowling and volunteering as a Pink Lady at Olympic Memorial Hospital (now Olympic Medical Center).
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Dewey and Mary Anich of Port Angeles; stepson and stepdaughter-in-law Gene and Carol Spencer of Tacoma; stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law Sandra and Ray Nailor and Sonja and Jim Belford, all of Vancouver, Wash.; half-brothers Frank Osborne of Santa Maria, Calif., and Glenn Osborne of Great Falls, Mont.; half-sisters Ione Osborne and Carol Lovinger, both of Great Falls, Mont., and half-sister Jeannine Dawdy of Oceanside, Calif.; seven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services: Wednesday, Dec. 21, 1 p.m., memorial in Independent Bible church, 116 E. Ahlvers Road, Port Angeles. Her son, the Rev. Dewey Anich, will officiate. A reception will follow the service.
At a later time, her cremated remains will be interred next to her husband Gilbert Spencer's burial site in Ocean View cemetery, 3127 W. 18th St., Port Angeles. This service will be private.
Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials: Hospice of Clallam County, P.O. Box 2014, Port Angeles, WA 98362.

Martha M. Larson
Jan. 23, 1915 -- Dec. 16, 2005
Martha M. Larson died in Port Angeles at age 90. Cause of death is pending.
Mrs. Larson was born to Samuel S. and Amelia A. (Nickel) Kunkel in Wildrose, N.D.
She married Harold W. Larson in Almena, Wis., in 1935.
Mrs. Larson lived in Clear Lake, Wis., Glacier National Park, Mont., and Royal City before moving to Port Angeles.
She was an accomplished seamstress and active in St. Matthew Lutheran Church. She taught classes at Peninsula College and enjoyed traveling in the United States.
She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband of Port Angeles; sons Gary Larson of Portland, Ore., and Jim Larson of Vancouver; daughter Janice Freel of Omak; sister Pauline Kunkel of Darrington; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers Max Kunkel, William Kunkel and Fred Kunkel.
Services: Today, Dec. 19, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. visitation at Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, 105 W. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
Funeral service Tuesday, Dec. 20, 1:30 p.m., St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 132 E. 13th St., Port Angeles, with the Rev. Philip Ritter officiating. Reception follows at the church.
Burial will be at Mount Angeles Memorial Park.

Dorothy Marie Allen
May 9, 1932 -- Dec. 3, 2005
Former Peninsula resident Dorothy Marie Allen of Sumner died at age 73.
Born in Round Prairie, Minn., to LeRoy and Ann (Moe) Leech, she moved to Sequim at age 13 and graduated from high school in 1950.
She married Chester Allan Boardman of Hogeland, Mont., in 1951. They later divorced.
After marriage to Howard Neal Allen, she lived in Missouri before moving to Sumner.
Mrs. Allen's survivors include son Neal Allen of Tacoma; sister Angeline Reandeau and brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Lolia Leech, all of Port Angeles; and brother and sister-in-law Calvin and Joy Leech of Port Townsend.
She was preceded in death by husband Howard Allen and son Allan Boardman.
Services: Monday, Dec. 19, 1 p.m., memorial in Powers Funeral Home, 320 W. Pioneer Ave., Puyallup.
Her cremated remains will be interred later at her mother's burial site at Mount Angeles Memorial Park, U.S. Highway 101 and Monroe Road, Port Angeles, with a private service.

Wesley W. Doan
Sept. 19, 1918 -- Dec. 11, 2005
Wesley W. Doan died in Port Townsend of age-related causes. He was 87.
He was born in Elrod, S.D., to Mort A. and Eva I. (Scott) Doan.
He served in the Army from January 1940 to November 1945, attaining the rank of sergeant.
Mr. Doan, who married Patricia E. Grant in Port Angeles on Sept. 1, 1954, was a brakeman/conductor for the Milwaukee Railroad until he retired in 1982.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and enjoyed model trains and photography.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Doan's survivors include son and daughter-in-law Michael and Angela Doan and daughter and son-in-law Sandra and Kenneth Melheim, all of Port Townsend; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers Wayne Doan and Duane Doan.
Services: None. Inurnment will be private. Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend, is in charge of arrangements.

Earl E. Headland
Dec. 28, 1926 -- Dec. 12, 2005
Port Angeles resident Earl E. Headland died of natural causes at age 78.
He was born in Hoquiam to Otto and Goldie (Follis) Headland.
He was in the Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Headland, who married Eleanor Wilcox in Hoquiam, was employed by Peninsula Plywood until his retirement.
He also enjoyed working with wood in his spare time.
Mr. Headland's survivors include stepson John Ahlers of Olympia; stepdaughters Yvonne Ahlers of Port Angeles and Sherry Tiger of Eugene, Ore.; sister Elaine Smith of Snohomish; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, daughter Kim Headland, brother Thomas Headland and sister Virginia Settle.
Services: At his request, none. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials: Hospice of Clallam County, P.O. Box 2014, Port Angeles, WA 98362.

Harriette W. Price
Sept. 12, 1914 -- Dec. 15, 2005
Harriette W. Price died of complications from pneumonia in Port Angeles at age 91.
Mrs. Price was born to MacLeod Campbell and March Dorothy (Gray) Wilson in Hartford, Conn.
She married Robert H. Price on April. 17, 1995.
Mrs. Price studied piano and voice at the Juilliard School.
Survivors include nephew Wilson Sweeney of Branford, Conn., and lifelong friend Sheila Lane of England.
Services: None. Her cremated remains will be scattered by air over the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Drennan-Ford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Melvin `Bud' Dyer
Oct. 2, 1937 -- Dec. 14, 2005
Melvin ``Bud" Dyer died in his Port Townsend home of a heart attack at age 68.
He was born in San Diego to Floyd Wayne and Brillie Jewel (Hobbs) Dyer and grew up in California.
He played football for two years at the University of Southern California.
Raised in California, he moved to Port Townsend in 1989 and married Darlene Stewart on Aug. 21, 1999.
Mr. Dyer was owner/operator of Northern Heating and Sheet Metal.
Driving his street rods, going to car shows and traveling to Nevada were among his pastimes.
He was a trustee of the Elks Lodge in Port Townsend.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Dyer's survivors include daughter Tammy Lance of Oklahoma; daughter and son-in-law Sherry and Chris Skadel of Oklahoma; daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Gary Trevorrow of California; his father of California; brother Jim Dyer and sister Linda Dyer, both of California; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and son, Randy.
Services: Wednesday, Dec. 21, 10 a.m. to noon, visitation at Kosec Funeral Home, 1615 Parkside Drive, Port Townsend.
A 2 p.m. memorial service will be held at the Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St., Port Townsend.
Memorials: Boys & Girls Club of Kitsap County, 3256 Chico Way NW, Bremerton, WA 98312.

Frieda Gertrude Rhoads Gasper
Nov. 9, 1916 -- Dec. 9, 2005
Former Peninsula resident Frieda Gertrude Rhoads Gasper died in Valley Medical Hospital, Renton, of a heart attack. She was 89.
Granddaughter of Charles Hopi, who was one of the first tribal counselors in Port Angeles, she was born in Port Angeles to Fred Rhoads Sr. and Klallam princess Mable Jane (Hopi) Rhoads.
She married Joseph Melvin Gasper in 1938.
The Gaspers moved to Seattle about 1949, but continued to frequent the Peninsula, where numerous nieces and nephews called her Aunt Sis.
Mrs. Gasper's survivors include son and daughter-in-law John Joseph and Weimen Gasper and son Franklin Jay Gasper, all of Seattle; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Her husband preceded her in death as did daughter Kathleen June Gasper; brothers Fred J.R. Rhoads, Alfred Rhoads, Frank Charles Rhoads and Arther Rhoads; and sisters Winnie Needham and June O'Neel.
Services: Saturday, Dec. 17, 3 p.m., memorial at the American Legion, 107 E. Prairie St., Sequim.
Alternative Funerals, Sumner, was in charge of cremation.

Bessie A. Scoles
Sept. 28, 1906 -- Dec. 7, 2005
Sequim resident Bessie A. Scoles died in Tacoma of congestive heart failure. She was 99.
The eldest of 12 children, she was born, to Arthur Lewis and Lulu (Roseberg) Adams in Culdesac, Idaho. As a baby, she moved with her family to Stockton, Kan.
She married Truman Herbert Scoles in Walla Walla on Aug. 8, 1927. He died May 12, 1978.
Mrs. Scoles was a housewife in Dayton in Eastern Washington and Idaho before moving to the Dungeness area in 1966.
She was a member of Royal Neighbors.
Survivors include sons Edgar T. Scoles of Sequim and Roy Scoles of Princeton, Idaho; daughter Betty Sarbacker of Clarkston; sisters Mary Messenger of Spokane, Fay Stearns and Alice Sarbacker, both of Clarkston, and Minnie Allen of Potlatch, Idaho; 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, four brothers and three sisters.
Services: To be announced. Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel is in charge.
