J. Mark Wilcox, II
March 18, 1916 -- Aug. 3, 2005
J. Mark Wilcox, II died in Port Townsend of pneumonia and congestive heart failure at age 89.
Mr. Wilcox was born to James Mark and Christene (Helm) Wilcox in Hazlehurst, Ga.
Mr. Wilcox moved to West Palm Beach, Fla., at age 4, later attending the Florida Military Academy and the University of Florida.
He married his high school sweetheart, Janice Farwell, in Bronson, Fla., on Nov. 24, 1934.
They moved to Washington, D.C., where he worked days for the Labor Department and attended law school at night. He passed the Bar in 1938 and worked as a lawyer with the Internal Revenue Service in Coral Gable, Fla.
In 1943, he enlisted in the Army, received a commission as a second lieutenant in the field artillery and was stationed in the Philippines. While en route to Japan as part of the invasion force, Japan surrendered.
Mr. Wilcox was transferred to the Judge Advocate General's Office and given responsibility for establishing the occupational government of Japan.
He took his discharge in Japan, but remained there for four more years working in the same capacity of the U.S. Army. He was then employed by the State Department and transferred to Frankfurt, Germany.
Later, he worked for the U.S. Army in the civilian procurement office. He remained in that department for 16 years and lived in both Germany and France.
After retiring, he moved to Port Townsend in 1973.
He was past president of the Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce, Port Townsend museum, Port Townsend Power Squadron and a member of the Rotary Club, and was selected as Port Townsend's Citizen of the Year.
At 70, he became a real estate broker and opened Western Shores real estate company.
Survivors include his wife; daughter and son-in-law Marilyn and Fred Miller of Albuquerque, N.M.; brother Joel Wilcox of Virginia; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
His son, Mark III, preceded him in death in 1995.
Services: Graveside inurnment service at 2 p.m. Monday at Laurel Grove cemetery, Port Townsend, with the Rev. Russ Minter officiating.
A reception at 2:30 p.m. in St. Paul's Episcopal Church parish hall will follow.
Kosec Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials: Charity of choice.

KRISTOPHER KEVIN DOEBBLER
January 8, 1979-July 18, 2005
Kristopher (Kris) Doebbler died at his residence in Chunkey, Tennessee. Kris was employed as a security guard with Tri-City Security Company in Johnson City, Tennessee.
He was known to have a love for his family, friends and NASCAR racing, and loved training animals.
He was an enrolled member of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, resided in Port Angeles with his family and friends for a period of time. He had wanted to return home to participate in the canoe journey, ``Reflection of Our Past . . . Honoring cixican Village."
With the wishes of Kris, a paddle will be carried from Port Gamble to Lower Elwha in honor and memory of Kris, to be presented to his girlfriend, Candice, and unborn child of Johnson City, Tennessee.
Kris was preceded in death by his father, Kevin Doebbler, and grandmother, Lorraine Doebbler.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Linda and Keith Cutshall; stepsisters Stephanie and Ashley and stepbrother Isaac, all of the family home; girlfriend, Candice Dunn and their unborn child of Johnson City, Tennessee; paternal grandfather Ronald Doebbler of Fredericksburg, Texas; maternal grandparents Robert and Lou-ann Miller of Bremerton, Washington; step-grandparents Steve and Rena Cutshall of Chunkey, Tennessee; three special adopted brothers, Will, Noah and Garrett Leonard of Jonesborough, Tennessee; special friends Evans Deel and Helen Virgil of Johnson City, Tennessee.
Aunts, Vera Charles and Pam Johnson of Port Angeles and Stephanie Doebbler of LaPush; Uncle Vincent Doebbler of Port Angeles; special friends Brian Charles of Port Angeles and Richard Sanchez of Tulalip; along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services were held on Sunday, July 24, 2005, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
Memorials for his unborn child may be made payable to Candice Dunn and sent to Stephanie Doebbler, P.O. Box 206, LaPush, WA 98350.

CLARA QUIGLEY GAZIJA
Clara Quigley Gazija died suddenly July 17, 2005, in Antioch, California. She was born September 16, 1935, to Harold and Rose (Capriotti) Quigley in Port Townsend, Washington.
A graduate of Port Townsend High in 1954, she attended Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. She married Lenko Gazija in 1956 and moved to Antioch, California, in 1960.
Clara was a local real estate agent and was very active in the community of Antioch. She was named Citizen of the Year in 1976 by the Antioch Chamber of Commerce. Her dedication and love for her community will be missed, along with her smile and friendship.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rose and Harold Quigley, and beloved husband, Lenko Gazija.
Survived by daughter and husband, Karen and Ernest Talamantes of Antioch, California; and two grandsons, John and Kevin Talamantes of Antioch, California; brother and wife, Mickie and Allie Quigley of Port Townsend, Washington; sister Rosie Lang of Puyallup, Washington.
Clara loved coming home to Port Townsend. She was a member of the Port Townsend Elks Lodge No. 317.
Please join family and friends at a gathering on Thursday, August 25th, at 3 p.m. at the Elks Lodge No. 317, 555 Otto St., Port Townsend.

CAROL M. LARSEN
Carol M. Larsen died from pancreatic cancer at the age of 77 in her home near Sequim, Washington, on August 4, 2005.
Carol was born on a farm owned by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Westby, near Aberdeen, South Dakota, on January 24, 1928. She came to Culbertson, Montana, with her parents in 1930.
She attended Culbertson schools and graduated from high school there in June 1946. She was confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church in Culbertson, Montana, in 1943.
On November 9, 1947, she married Calvin Larsen, who was then in the Navy. He had been raised near Culbertson, where he and Carol attended the same high school.
During her husband's career in the U.S. Navy, Carol made homes for her family in Pensacola, Florida, during his three tours of instructor duty there; San Diego, California; Jacksonville, Florida; Washington, D.C.; East Greenwich, Rhode Island; and then in Rota, Spain, from June 1969 to October 1972, where he retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander after nearly 28 years of service.
While living in Spain, Carol traveled with her husband and daughter, Sonya, to England, Germany and Portugal. They also traveled extensively in Spain while living there.
Carol was the perfect mother of her two children, the perfect wife and the perfect neighbor. She loved to read, travel and visit with her friends. She will always be loved and greatly missed by her family and friends.
After Calvin's retirement from the Navy, they traveled full-time for many years. During these periods, Carol assisted Calvin in his nature, wildlife and aerial photography, which he did for his second 28 years in photography.
They enjoyed visiting the older cities, which Carol had read about in her novels. Cities visited included: New Orleans, Louisiana; Boston, Massachusetts; New York City; St. Augustine, Florida; Williamsburg, Virginia; Atlanta, Georgia; Charleston, South Carolina; and many historic Civil War battlefields.
Other favorite destinations were the many beautiful old cathedrals in the West such as those at St. Ignatius, Montana; Cataldo, Idaho; and the many of them in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. In their travels, they visited all 48 states in the continental United States.
She is survived by her husband, two children, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her son, Bruce, and his wife, Diane, live in Whitehall, Montana. Paul and Kurt Larsen, their sons are in the Montana National Guard. They are now both serving in Iraq. Carol's thoughts and prayers have been with them.
Her daughter, Sonya, lives with her husband, Gregg, Elwood in Port Angeles, Washington. Sonya's son, Ryan, and daughter, Erin, both live in this area.
She is also survived by her twin brother, the Rev. Carl M. Westby of Arden Hills, Minnesota.
A memorial service celebrating Carol's life will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Lopez Ave., Port Angeles, Washington, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2005.
Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or Hospice of Clallam County, P.O. Box 2014, Port Angeles, WA 98362.

ALMA MAGDALENA NYMAN
October 28, 1917-July 28, 2005
Services for Alma Nyman, 87, of Port Angeles will be held Thursday, August 18th, at 11 a.m. at Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, 105 W. Fourth St., Port Angeles, Washington.
Alma was born on October 28, 1917, in Obbola, Sweden, to Anton and Selma Hansson Andersson, the youngest of 13 children.
Alma married the love of her life, Evert Nyman, in Obbola on June 23, 1938. Together they journeyed to the United States in 1948, making their home in Port Angeles. Alma worked at McGlenn's Supermarket for many years.
She was preceded in death by Evert on January 26, 2002.
The wonderful staff at Golden Years Residential Care made her last years very pleasant and comfortable.
Alma is survived by one sister, Gunborg Edfelt of Port Angeles, and 32 nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Sweden who will always cherish many happy memories of Auntie Alma and Uncle Evert.

SAXXON MICHAEL RECH
Saxxon was born in Riverside, California, on December 6, 1984. He died tragically on July 27, 2005, at his home in Everson, Washington.
A handsome, charming young man, he loved to make people smile with his witty sense of humor.
He will be deeply missed by so many who loved and admired him and looked forward to the wonderful future he should have had.
Saxxon is survived by his mother, Suzanne (Rychlik) and stepfather Jeff Snydar of Everson, Washington; his father, Steven Rech of Long Beach, California; stepmother Kelly Guiberson and her husband, Rod Guiberson of SeaTac, Washington; brothers, Nicholas Snydar and Daniel Guiberson; sisters, Trisha Snydar, Abigail Snydar and Adele Guiberson; grandparents, Elizabeth Rychlik and Gary Lyshol of Kona, Hawaii, Oscar and Alice Rychlik of Yuma, Arizona, Patricia and John Rech of Tehachapi, California, and Joan Snydar of Ferndale; his beloved Auntie ``Gramma Donna" and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and beloved friends in Washington, California and Idaho.
Saxxon served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Fire Support Man and achieved the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Rifle Qualification Expert Badge.
In addition, he completed Marine Combat Training, Marine Artillery Scout Observer Crs, Shfire Cntl Party Enl Crs and his Tan Belt in martial arts.
Services will be held today, August 5th, at noon at Christ the King Church, 123 N. 17th St., Lynden, Washington 98264.
``Last night I looked up at the stars and matched each one with a reason why I love you. I was doing great, but then I ran out of stars."

Lisa Inman
A celebration of life for teacher Lisa Iman, who died June 28 of complications from heart surgery, will be held Friday, Aug. 5, at 6 p.m. at Five Acre School, 515 Lotzgesell Road, Sequim.
Participants can share memories and join in family-oriented activities that will honor Mrs. Inman.
Her Death and Memorial Notice was published July 28 on Page A7.

Elizabeth Phipps
June 8, 1922 -- Aug. 3, 2005
Port Angeles resident Elizabeth Phipps died in Crestwood Convalescent Center.
Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Lorraine A. Young
Dec. 12, 1926 -- Aug. 1, 2005
Lorraine A. Young, 78, died of cancer in her Sequim home.
She was born to Fred and Lenora (Lawson) Rinbach in San Diego.
She married Robert Allyn Young in San Diego on July 31, 1955.
In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Young was a licensed beautician.
She was also a volunteer at the Sequim Thrift Shop, Sequim Visitors Center and Sequim Museum and Art Center as well as working with voter registration.
In addition to playing with her grandchildren, Mrs. Young enjoyed her membership in the Valley Garden Club.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Greg and Gretchen Young and Steve and Patricia Young; daughter Patricia Petuchov; and three grandsons.
Services: At her request, none. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Townsend, is in charge .
Memorials: Sequim Thrift Shop, P.O. Box 487, Sequim, WA 98382.

ELSIE DANGERFIELD
Elsie Dangerfield passed away on July 30, 2005. She had just celebrated her 101st birthday surrounded by family and friends.
She was born to Elizabeth and Edward Hastings on July 24, 1904, in Bury, England.
The family moved to Toronto, Canada, then to Victoria, where she met and married her late husband, Fred Dangerfield.
Elsie has been a dedicated volunteer in Port Angeles, starting as a Golden Lady and continuing at the Senior Nutrition Center, where she had volunteered since 1969.
In 1985, she was recognized by then-Gov. Booth Gardner as an Outstanding Volunteer of The Year.
Survivors include daughters Edith (Jim) and Doreen; granddaughter Nancy (Doug); nieces Marg, Pat, Kit and Kathy; and by her special friends, Doreen Nielson and Ethel Endicott-Wilson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 510 E. Park Ave., Port Angeles, WA 98362, or to Clallam County Humane Society, 2105 W. Highway 101, Port Angeles, WA 98363.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 5th, 2005, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
