Milton E. Henderson
Feb. 6, 1922 -- March 15, 2005
Milton E. Henderson died in his Sequim home of a stroke at age 83.
He was born in Shanghai, China, to Warren Pinkney and Jessie (Roberts) Henderson.
During World War II, Mr. Henderson served as a medical laboratory technician in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater in 1944-46.
He married Ruth Elizabeth Barber on Sept. 22, 1946, in Oakland, Calif. She died Dec. 22, 1996.
After his discharge from the military, Mr. Henderson studied watch-making in Glendale, Calif., where he had his own business before becoming a research engineer for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, Calif.
Following 25 years with NASA, Mr. Henderson started Henderson Machine Products while continuing to work as an optical design engineer for Diffraction Optics in Palo Alto, Calif.
When the Hendersons moved to Sequim 26 years ago, he continued his machine shop business.
He was an accomplished pilot, who, accompanied by one of his yellow Labrador retrievers, made numerous trips around the country in his vintage Taildragger.
In addition to being a member of Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and National Rifle Association, Mr. Henderson belonged to the World War II 76th Station Hospital Group and Seventh-day Adventist Church.
His personal interests were photography and darkroom work, skin diving, backpacking in the Sierra Nevada, Cascades and Grand Tetons, and gunsmithing and benchrest shooting.
Survivors include sons Ken ``Doc" Henderson of Sequim and John Henderson of Tacoma; daughter Kathie Williams of Northfield, Minn.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brother Warren P. Henderson Jr.
Services: At his request, none. Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel is in charge.

Joseph Wallace LaBarge
June 21, 1926 -- March 11, 2005
Joseph Wallace LaBarge died of cancer in his Port Angeles home at age 78.
He was born in Seattle to Joseph Edward and Edith Ann (Dennis) LaBarge.
During World War II, Mr. LaBarge served in the Army's 307th Infantry Regiment of the 77th Division at Okinawa.
Cpl. LaBarge was awarded the Bronze Star, Good Conduct medal, Combat Infantryman badge and Honorable Service award.
He married Marion Joyce Saul in Edmonds on Aug. 29, 1955.
Mr. LaBarge retired from 35 years of employment with the Boeing Co., during which time he lived in Lynnwood, Seattle and SeaTac.
He moved to Port Angeles 10 years ago and built his home.
He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Lodge 751, and 307th Infantry Veterans Society.
In addition to playing pool, pingpong and horseshoes, Mr. LaBarge enjoyed boating and was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Mark and Nora LaBarge of Palmer, Alaska; daughter Debbie Newman of Tacoma; daughter and son-in-law Suzan and Jon Houghton of Auburn; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 12, 2003, and by brothers Edward, George and L.A. LaBarge.
Services: April 16, 1 p.m., memorial in the Tukwila Community Center, 12424 42nd Ave. S., Tukwila. A reception will follow.
Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, Bremerton, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials: Hospice of Clallam County, P.O. Box 2014, Port Angeles, WA 98362.

Steven Bruce Willbanks
July 31, 1951 -- March 17, 2005
Forks resident Steven Bruce Willbanks died of cancer in Virginia Mason Medical Center, Seattle, at age 53.
He was born in Sinton, Texas, to Otis and Doris (Henry) Willbanks and graduated from El Campo High School in 1969.
Mr. Willbanks' service with the Army in 1969-72 included duty in Vietnam in 1970-71.
He enjoyed working in the woods as a logger and was employed in Forks by Nielsen Logging and Engeseth Logging, and in Port Angeles by Hermann Brothers.
Fishing and hunting were his pastimes.
Mr. Willbanks married Toni Rene Menear in Forks on April 30, 1993.
In addition to his wife, survivors include daughter Amanda Willbanks, stepdaughter Shannon Breedlove and stepsons Jesse and Wesley Dulin and James Leons, all of Forks; father and stepmother Otis and Peggy Willbanks of Texas; brother James Willbanks of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and sister Linda Zamazal of El Campo, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Services: Wednesday, March 23, 3 p.m., memorial in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1301 Calawah Way, Forks.

Paul T. Anderson
March 19, 1938 -- March 21, 2005
Former Peninsula resident Paul T. Anderson died in his home at Ocean Shores two days after his 67th birthday.
He was born in Ellensburg to Earl Edward and Juanita (Alburty) Anderson.
He married Carole Rutledge in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on Sept. 12, 1959.
Mr. Anderson spent many years in the construction industry, as well as retail sales, commercial sales and as a general contractor.
From 1973-90, he lived in Sequim and built many homes in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley.
He was active on the Sequim School Board for many years. He coached soccer among the variety of youth opportunities he supported with his children.
In his later years, he owned Anderson Construction Management Inc. in Ocean Shores, where he was also involved in school-building projects.
He was a member of Faith Community Church in Ocean Shores.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Anderson's survivors include sons Michael of Port Angeles, Matthew of Siloam Springs, Ark., and Eric Anderson of Tacoma; daughter Julia Barger of Wenatchee; sisters Sara Lee O'Connor of Port Angeles and Erline Reber of Yakima; and eight grandchildren.
Services: Thursday, March 24, 1 p.m., memorial in Faith Community Church, meeting in Ocean City School, 2652 State Route 109, Ocean City. Don Camp will officiate. A reception will follow.
Evergreen Mortuary, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Rose M. Cook
Feb. 16, 1919 -- March 16, 2005
Forks resident Rose M. Cook died in Olympic Medical Center, Port Angeles, of natural causes at age 86.
She was born to Louis and Margaret (Kain) Guay in Centralia.
She married Tom Cook in Centralia on July 2, 1938.
Mrs. Cook owned and operated Rose's Cafe in Forks in the late 1950s. In the early 1970s, she moved to Clallam Bay, where she owned the Spring Tavern.
She returned to Forks for her retirement in 1985.
Mrs. Cook, who was a former member of the Elks Emblem Club, enjoyed shopping, spending time with her grandchildren and visiting with her friends, including 45-year confidant Maxine Sullivan.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Louie and Marilyn Cook of Forks; daughter and son-in-law Gail and Gordon Windle of Port Angeles; sister and brother-in-law Lois and Mac Hanks of Arcata, Calif.; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on May 18, 1989, and by brother Richard Guay.
Services: Saturday, March 26, 11 a.m., memorial and reception in the Forks Elks Lodge, 941 Merchant Road. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Helen Ammeter
Dec. 16, 1915 -- March 21, 2005
Longtime Port Townsend resident Elizabeth Helen Ammeter died in Sequim at the age of 89.
Kosec Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ione George Bowechop
Feb. 19, 1930 -- March 21, 2005
Neah Bay resident Ione George Bowechop died after a long illness. She was 75.
She was born to Harold and Amy (Williams) George in LaPush, and attended high school in Neah Bay.
She married George C. Bowechop on June 28, 1946, at the Neah Bay Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Bowechop was a homemaker and belonged to Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include her husband; sons George ``Chad" Bowechop of Neah Bay and Michael A. Bowechop of Lacey; daughters Sandra E. Chang of Grand Terrace, Calif., Doreen A. Keyes of Bellevue and Christine E. Jimmicum of Neah Bay; brothers Kenneth Payne and Calvin George of LaPush and Donald ``Skip" George of Tacoma; sisters Diane Ward and Gloria George, both of Tacoma, and sister Sally McMasters of Sheridan, Ore.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sisters Betty Elvrum and Viola McGee.
Services: Friday, March 25, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., public visitation at Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, 105 W. Fourth St., Port Angeles. Family visitation will be held 10 a.m. to noon.
Saturday, March 26, 1 p.m., memorial at Assembly of God Church, Third and Fort streets in Neah Bay. James Kallappa will officiate. A community dinner will follow the service.

Richard Robert Galland
March 6, 1949 -- March 21, 2005
Port Angeles resident Richard Robert Galland died of heart failure at age 56.
He was born in Forks to Harold and Gloria Marie Galland.
He married Pamela René LaBelle in Port Angeles on Nov. 23, 1968.
Mr. Galland worked in logging and was a boom man in Forks.
He enjoyed landscaping and being with his family.
Survivors include his wife of Port Angeles; sons Michael James Galland and Jess Joseph Galland, all of Port Angeles; brother Alfred Galland of California; sisters Janice Lakey and Shirely Larson; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brother James Galland.
Services: Saturday, March 26, 2 p.m., memorial at Bethany Pentecostal Church, 508 S. Francis St., Port Angeles. Chaplain Dennis Niva will officiate.
Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
