Ronnie Roy LaCross

April 21, 1964 -- Dec. 5, 2004

Ronnie Roy LaCross of Forks died at age 40 of ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease.

He was born in Dallas, Ore., to Frank and Leah M. (Fast) LaCross and had been a clerk for the Truax Corp. in Oregon.

He was divorced in 1998.

Mr. LaCross was a member of Calvary Chapel in Forks.

His survivors include son Brandon Hoff of Oregon; brother Rande L. LaCross of Salem, Ore.; and sister Renee A. Klahn of Forks.

Services: Saturday, Dec. 11, 2 p.m., memorial in Forks Bible Church, 780 G St., Forks. Pastor Jeremy Botkin will officiate. Potluck will follow.

Mount Olympus Funeral Home, Forks, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: Long Term Care of Forks, 530 Bogachiel Way, Forks, WA 98331.

EDITH MARIE SPAULDING

Edith Marie Spaulding passed away at her Port Angeles home on December 5, 2004.

She was born in Fort Worth, Texas, to Ted and Effie (Smith) Simmons on June 28, 1919.

Her family moved to Forks in 1933, where she attended Forks schools.

On July 2, 1938, she married Lester Spaulding in Forks. They maintained their home there until 1945, when they moved to Whatcom County, returning to Forks in 1951.

Mr. Spaulding retired from logging in 1966 and they moved to Walla Walla. Health concerns convinced them to move back to Port Angeles to be near their family in 1986.

Edith participated in water aerobics for many years, volunteered at Hospice and the food bank, and worked at several jobs through the years, but she loved her job as a homemaker above all else.

Her home was always open to everyone for good food, coffee and conversation. She was grandma to many in her extended family and for friends as well.

Reading was her one true love, after family. She self-educated by reading anything and everything she could.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Melton and her husband Joseph, and Deanna Doty and her husband Robert; daughter-in-law Teri Spaulding and son-in-law Wes DePew; her unofficial daughter, official niece, Marlene Jagger and her husband Jerry; nine grandchildren, Shellie Beaudette of Port Angeles; Eric Melton of Jacksonville, Florida; Garrett Melton of Clackamas, Oregon; Justine Groff of Port Angeles; Steve Petersen of Prosser, Washington; Dale Petersen of North Bend, Washington; Wendy Craig of Vancouver, Washington; Vernon DePew and Scott DePew of Forks; and 21 great grandchildren.

A very special caregiver, her niece Debbie and her husband Greg Johnson, who were always there for her these last few years, brothers-in-law Gene Spaulding of Forks and Ronald Spalding of Alaska, and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 55 years, Lester; daughter Virginia DePew and her son Larry Spaulding; sisters Geneva Wallace and Edwina Heathers; and brothers JD and Elmer Johnson.

There will be no formal services; cremation and inurnment will be at Ocean View cemetery in Port Angeles with her husband and children.

Family and friends will gather at Monterra Club House on December 12, 2004, at 1 p.m. to remember her each in their own way and her way -- coffee, food and conversation.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Clallam County, P.O. Box 2014, Port Angeles, WA 98362, or charity of choice.

Arrangements were entrusted to Drennan-Ford Funeral Home in Port Angeles.

WILLIAM (BILLY) BENOFF III

William (Billy) Benoff III was born September 23, 1972, in Port Angeles.

William is survived by his daughter, Samantha Benoff, and stepson, Dylan Benoff, both of Port Angeles; and siblings Traci Harvey of Spokane and Marie Benoff and Teresa Buchanan, both of Kingman, Arizona.

He also is survived by his parents, William and Rita Benoff Jr., of Kingman, Arizona.

A fund has been set up for the children through the Spokane branch of Sterling Savings under ``Tiffany Benoff."

William `Billy' Benoff III

Sept. 23, 1972 -- Nov. 30, 2004

Former Port Angeles resident William ``Billy" Benoff III died in Spokane Valley at age 32.

Spokane Valley Police Chief Cal Walker said Mr. Benoff shot and killed his wife, the former Tiffany Zink, before killing himself in the basement of his sister's home.

He was born to William and Rita (Oructt) Benoff Jr. in Port Angeles, where he graduated from high school in 1991.

He and his wife married in Port Angeles on Dec. 31, 1994.

Mr. Benoff went to Spokane to receive training in refrigeration and air-conditioning five years ago.

He enjoyed outdoor activities and working on cars.

The Benoffs are survived by daughter Samantha Benoff and Mrs. Benoff's son, Dylan Benoff.

Mr. Benoff is also survived by his parents and sisters, Marie Benoff and Teresa Buchanon, all of Kingman, Ariz.; and sister Traci Harvey of Spokane.

Services: The Neptune Society, Spokane, was in charge of cremation.

Memorials: To benefit the Benoff children: Tiffany Benoff Memorial Fund, Sterling Savings Bank, 111 N. Wall St., Spokane, WA 99201.

Robert V. `Bob' Deason

April 21, 1931 -- Dec. 7, 2004

Former Port Angeles resident Robert V. ``Bob" Deason died in Shelton at age 73.

He was born in Ferndale, Mich., to Oscar and Laura (Platt) Deason.

He married Margaret Diane Millican in Seattle on March 14, 1952.

Mr. Deason was with the Coast Guard 14 years. After moving from Port Angeles in 1963, he served as officer-in-charge of the Coast Guard Brown's Point Light Station in Tacoma for three years.

Mr. Deason owned the restaurant supply company B&D Foods in Port Angeles in 1969-78 and represented Boyd Coffee Co. in 1978-90.

Survivors include his wife; son and daughter-in-law Rick and Sheryl Deason and daughter and son-in-law Kathleen ``Kathie" and Gene Blanton, all of Port Angeles; daughter Laura Deason of La Conner; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sister Janiece Graham and granddaughter Erin Deason.

McComb Funeral Home, Shelton, was in charge of burial.

Rachel Mary Horne

Jan. 8, 1949 -- Nov. 20, 2004

Forks resident Rachel Mary Horne died in the home of Delite Whidden at age 55 after a long illness.

She was born in Eau Claire, Wis., to William and Helen (Gorkolwski) Larson.

After graduating from Black River Falls High School in 1967, she attended the University of Wisconsin.

Services: Memorial will be announced later. Mount Olympus Funeral Home was in charge of cremation.

Marilyn Kaye Kasakan

Sept. 19, 1969 -- Dec. 4, 2004

Port Angeles resident Marilyn Kaye Kasakan died at age 35 of complications from lupus.

The daughter of Kenneth Warren and Rita Marilyn (Charles) Charles Sr., she was born in Port Angeles, a member of the Lower Elwha Klallam tribe and active in Native American interests.

She married Nicholas C. Kasakan III in Neah Bay on Nov. 16, 1990.

Mrs. Kasakan fished commercially in Port Angeles.

In addition to fishing, she worked on commercial boats, one of which she owned. She enjoyed writing poetry, playing bingo, hunting and sewing.

Mrs. Kasakan was a member of the Native American Church, Native American Shaker Church and Bahai faith.

Survivors include her husband; son Nicholas C. Kasakan; parents Rita Marilyn and Kenneth Charles Sr. and John and Linda Quails; and brother Kenneth W. Charles Jr.

Her infant daughter, Kianna Suteer Kasakan, died in 2002.

Services: Thursday, Dec. 9, 1 p.m., funeral and reception at the Lower Elwha Tribal Center, 2851 Lower Elwha Road, Port Angeles. Elaine Grinnell and Ben Charles will officiate.

Burial will be at Place cemetery on Place Road, off state Highway 112. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Carl Henry Scharf

Sept. 14, 1911 -- Dec. 6, 2004

Port Angeles resident Carl Henry Scharf died in Seattle at age 93.

Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

David E. Wilson

Sept. 1, 1931 -- Dec. 5, 2004

Chimacum resident David E. Wilson died at age 73 due to complications of Parkinson's disease.

He was born in Yakima to Herman P. and Dorthy M. (Harris) Wilson.

The family moved to Silverdale, and he graduated from Central Kitsap High School.

Mr. Wilson spent two years in the Navy during the Korean War, then studied mechanical engineering for two years at Olympic College.

He married Roetta Christine Green in Irondale Church on April 27, 1957.

He was employed at the Port Townsend Paper Corp. mill for 38 years.

Mr. Wilson enjoying fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his wife; son David W. Wilson Jr. of Seattle; daughters and sons-in-law Diana C. and Dale J. Robbins and Debbie M. and Mark E. Lynes of Chimacum; sister Audrey McBride, all of Chimacum; brother Duane T. Wilson of Longview and sister-in-law Elaine Wilson of Port Angeles; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brother Dale Wilson and sister-in-law Jean Wilson.

Services: Saturday, Dec. 11, 1 p.m., funeral in Kosec Funeral Home, 1615 Parkside Drive, Port Townsend. Pastor Don Pieper will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery, Chimacum.

There will be a potluck afterward at the home of Laura and Dennis Bates, 41 Hilda St., Port Hadlock.

Memorials: American Parkinson Disease Association, Washington Chapter, P.O. Box 75169, Seattle, WA 98125-0169.

A. ROBERT (BOB) REYNOLDS

Bob was born in Port Angeles on April 19, 1929, and passed away December 4, 2004.

Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Edith, son Bruce (Terri), daughter Carol, his adored grandchildren Emily and Taylor, sister Bev Kiuchi, and brother Harry.

Bob grew up in Forks, Washington, and attended the University of Washington.

He joined the Navy and spent his service in the South Pacific.

He moved to Tacoma where he became an electrician in IBEW Local 76. He taught his electrical trade at Bates and trained generations of electricians.

Bob's life was dedicated to helping others. He was an integral part of the Pierce County Habitat for Humanity. He was also an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, where he wore many hats.

He had a passion for travel and visited six continents.

He loved his family and will be missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 11th, at 10 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian in Tacoma.
