LEON E. EICHENLAUB

Leon E. Eichenlaub passed away in Port Angeles, Washington, on Monday evening, August 23, 2004, as a result of complications from pneumonia and emphysema.

He was born in rural Pennsylvania to Clarence and Mildred (Gray) Eichenlaub.

After high school graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as an apprentice seaman in 1941. He was stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey, where he met his future bride, Roberta M. Schroeder, who was a Coast Guard nurse at the shipyard in Anacortes.

They were married in August 1943 in Mount Vernon, and began 30 years of world travels together.

Mr. Eichenlaub began his military career and served in all enlisted grades, including master chief, and then went on to become a warrant officer and retired as a lieutenant in February 1971. His duty stations included locations in California, Washington, Rhode Island, Iraq and Italy.

After his military retirement, he attended Skagit Valley College, earning an AA degree, and then attended Western Washington University, obtaining a bachelor's and master's degree in education, cum laude, in 1980.

He taught high school industrial arts in Anacortes for several years until his health forced him to retire again.

He and his wife enjoyed the ``snowbird" lifestyle in Yuma, Arizona, for many years.

Together, they were well known for their frequent and warm hospitality. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed woodworking, reading and other artistic endeavors.

Survivors include daughters Carol Peterson and husband Bill, and Donna Boudet and husband George, all of Port Angeles; sons Robert Eichenlaub of Woodinville and Chuck Eichenlaub and wife Starr of Concrete; brothers Wilbur and wife Evelyn and Dale Eichenlaub and wife Bonnie, all of Pennsylvania; and sister Margaret Huseby and husband Marcillius of Mount Vernon; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta, in 2001.

He was a 50-year member of the Fleet Reserve, a member of American Legion, Masons, Elks and the ``Gentlemen's Club" at St. Andrew's Place.

A memorial service will be held at Mount Tahoma National cemetery in Kent on Friday, September 17, 2004, at 12:30 p.m. A reception will follow.

Joseph Moynihan

May 1, 1921 -- Aug. 23, 2004

Joseph Moynihan died of a stoke in Sequim at age 83.

Mr. Moynihan was born to Joseph and Grace (Vautier) Moynihan in Greenville, Pa.

He married Maxine Chaney on April 5, 1946.

Mr. Moynihan served in World War II as a naval aviator flying carrier-based missions. He retired from the Naval Reserve as a lieutenant commander on May 1, 1981.

Mr. Moynihan received a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1951. He worked as an industrial engineer in Tampa, Fla.

He also lived in Oil City, Pa., and Elkhart Lake, Wis., before moving to Sequim in 1999.

He was sole caregiver for his wife, who was incapacitated seven years ago by a stroke.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Renee Moynihan of Waldo, Wis.; daughter and son-in-law Suzanne and Jerry Straun of Sequim; brother David Moynihan of Suffern, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by infant son Chip Moynihan, infant daughter Colleen Moynihan, brother Philip Moynihan, and sister Gracie Moynihan.

Services: At a later date. There was cremation. Inurnment will be at Hadley cemetery in Hadley, Pa.

Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: Charity of choice.

CHARLOTTE ARLENE CAMERON

Charlotte was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Wilmer Arthur Weaver and Emily Mae Weaver on June 19, 1942, and died August 22, 2004.

She grew up in Port Angeles and graduated in the class of 1960 from Port Angeles High School.

She was a graduate of Mary Stone School of Cosmetology in Seattle and a licensed cosmetologist in the State of Washington.

Charlotte was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She passed away in her sleep.

She is survived by her husband, John, of Sequim; daughter and son-in-law Crystal and Gary Broderick of Juneau, Alaska; son John and daughter-in-law Lori Cameron of Puyallup; brother Wilmer and sister-in-law Pat Weaver of Port Orchard; and grandchildren Katie, Amanda and Megan.

Charlotte and John were married June 15, 1963, in Port Angeles and lived throughout Washington, Oregon and Alaska prior to retiring to Sequim in 1998.

Charlotte was a member of Ester Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and Dungeness Women's Golf Association.

She spent her life raising and caring for her family. She enjoyed cooking, arts and crafts, gardening and golf.

The Lord has called another angel home. She will be sorely missed.

No services are planned. However, a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. at her home located at 308 N. Honeycomb Circle, Sequim, Washington.

All who wish to attend are invited to join the family.

Lois R. `LuLu' Chace

Feb. 22, 1932 -- Aug. 25, 2004

Lois R. ``LuLu" Chace died in Overlake Hospital, Bellevue, at age 72 from complications of diabetes.

Mrs. Chace lived in Bellevue and Sequim, where she maintained a home for 25 years.

She was born in Trumbull, Conn., to Jeremiah and Ada (Davis) Randall.

Her first husband was Irving Mahler.

Her marriage to William B. Chace in Reno, Nev., on Dec. 31, 1975, ended with his death May 11, 2001.

For many years, the Chaces owned and operated Chace's Pancake Corral in Bellevue.

For more than 30 years, she also organized and hosted Bill Chace Pancake Corral Golf Tournaments, mainly held in Hawaii and in Sequim, where she was a member of Dungeness Golf and Country Club.

Mrs. Chace retired in 1989.

In addition to golf and cooking, she enjoyed music, working crossword puzzles and family.

Survivors include stepsons Tony Chace and Michael Chace; daughters Ada M. Williams and Jane P. Zakskorn; stepdaughters Lorraine Chace and Nancy Chace; brothers George Randall, Daniel Randall and Jeremiah Randall; sisters Adeline Szerkeres, Edna Brush, Bernice Stevens, Marion Dudics and Harriet Buda; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by grandson Tyler A. Zakskorn.

Services: Sunday, Aug. 29, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Monday, Aug. 30, 9 a.m. until immediately preceding the 2 p.m. funeral, visitation in Green Funeral Home, 1215 145th Place SE, Bellevue.

Burial in Sunset Hills Memorial Park, 1575 145th Place SE, Bellevue, will follow the funeral.

SAM BRYAN TRAIL

Sam Bryan Trail, 25, of Clarkston passed away Thursday July 22, 2004, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, Idaho, of an accidental gunshot wound.

He was born November 13, 1978, to Lauri Payton and Jack (Sam) Trail Jr., in Lewiston.

Sam was raised by his mother Lauri, stepfather Dennis Schleve and grandmother Sharon Kennedy.

During his childhood, Sam lived in Sequim, where much of his extended family still resides. During his teenage and adult years he lived in the Lewis-Clark Valley.

On New Year's Eve in 1998, Sam had his first date with Doni Henderson. Sam and Doni made their home in Clarkston along with 2-year-old son Justyn Michael Trail and 6-year-old stepdaughter Chaylynn Spencer.

Sam was an excellent artist and was learning tattoo artistry at the time of his death. He enjoyed playing with Justyn, spending time with his family and friends, playing video games, watching movies, working on cars and tinkering with anything that had wires (electronics and sound equipment).

In addition to wife Doni, children Justyn and Chay, survivors include his mother, Lauri, and her husband, Tim Huff; father Jack (Sam) Trail Jr.; stepfather Dennis Schleve; grandparents Sharon Kennedy, Gordon Payton and Jack Trail Sr.; sister Mandi Schleve; brothers Tyron Paine and David Trail; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Grandmother Josephine (Lolly) Atkins preceded him in death.

A celebration of Sam's life was held at their home. Family and friends came and shared their memories and shared his favorite time of day, sunset.

Sam will be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him. He is now an "Angel" looking down on us.

Emma J. Camporini

July 9, 1909 -- Aug. 19, 2004

Emma J. Camporini died in Crestwood Convalescent Center, Port Angeles, of pneumonia at age 95.

She was born to Alfred and Emma J. Seveso in New Jersey, and married Louis Camporini in Jersey City, N.J.

Mrs. Camporini enjoyed playing cards and bingo at the senior center and was a member of the Catholic Church,

Survivors include her son Richard Camporini of Port Angeles; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Her husband died in November 1993.

Services: No services. Drennan-Ford is in charge of arrangements.

Gary Hammer

Feb. 23, 1942 -- Aug. 20, 2004

Port Angeles resident Gary Hammer died of lung cancer at age 62.

He was born to Harold August and Louise May (Anderson) Hammer in Seattle, where he married Patsy Ann Miller in 1972.

Mr. Hammer spent his childhood in Port Townsend then moved to Port Angeles.

A shake mill sawyer, he enjoyed fishing, crabbing and clam digging with his children and brothers. He also enjoyed hunting, cribbage and going to garage sales.

Survivors include his wife, daughters Jennifer Hammer, Kathryn, Mayrie Johnston and Nancy Hammer, and brothers Bradley and Ken Hammer, all of Port Angeles. Other survivors include brothers Douglas Hammer of Aberdeen and Harold Hammer of Port Hadlock; sisters Janice Goldsmith and Shirley Rogers, both of Aberdeen, and Gloria Hammer of Seattle; and five grandchildren.

Services: Saturday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m., memorial in Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 209 W. 11th St. A reception will follow the service. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Orville D. `Slim' Hegseth

June 20, 1917 -- Aug. 14, 2004

Longtime Port Angeles resident Orville D. ``Slim" Hegseth, 87, died in Gig Harbor, where he recently relocated due to his health.

He was born in Sentinel Butte, N.D., to Ole and Hildur (Davidson) Hegseth.

He graduated from high school in Minnesota and the University of Washington.

Mr. Hegseth, who served in the Civilian Conservation Corps before entering the U.S. Air Force, received numerous military awards, including the World War II Victory Medal, for his 20 years of service in the Air Force. He retired in 1959 as a lieutenant colonel.

On March 1, 1959, he married Jean Howe in Las Vegas.

Following retirement from the armed forces, Mr. Hegseth worked at Boeing and was a small business owner.

He came to Port Angeles in 1970 and started the Western Auto Store. He was owner/operator of Pronto Donuts, which was located next to the Masonic Temple in what is now Gordy's Restaurant.

Mr. Hegseth's Masonic memberships included Shrine and Scottish Rite. He also belonged to American Legion and the Lutheran church.

Survivors include his wife of Port Orchard; son, Jack Hegseth of Spanaway; daughter and son-in-law Karen and Michael Grew of Port Orchard; brother and sister-in-law Franklyn and Bernice Haugen of Vancouver, Wash.; four grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother Alden Hegseth; daughter Judith Krones; and granddaughter Aidan Grew.

Services: A military graveside service was held in Haven of Rest cemetery, Gig Harbor, on Aug. 23, with Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, Bremerton, in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: Charity of choice.

Wanda Kay Mulder

Nov. 12, 1941 -- Aug. 13, 2004

Wanda Kay Mulder died in her Port Angeles home after a brief illness. She was 62.

She was the third of four children born in Volga, S.D., to Dewey and Bernice (Vanden Berg) Mulder. She lived on the family farm and attended Volga Christian Grade School and Volga High School.

After one year at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., she moved to Los Angeles and became a registered nurse. Later, she added a degree in midwifery.

Ms. Mulder worked in California hospitals before moving to Seattle, where she was director of nursing at Horizon House.

After moving to Port Angeles, she worked with Hospice of Clallam County.

In addition to a life devoted to caring for others, Ms. Mulder, who was a member of the Audubon Society, enjoyed birding, skiing and hiking.

She was proceeded in death by her parents.

Services: Inurnment in Ocean View cemetery, 3127 W. 18th St., Port Angeles. Drennan-Ford Funeral Home of Port Angeles was in charge.

Memorials: Hospice Foundation of America, 12000 Biscayne Blvd., No. 505, Miami Beach, FL 33181; or Hospice of Clallam County, P.O. Box 2014, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
