ROBERT (BOB) EARL MILLMAN

Robert (Bob) Earl Millman, age 66 of Sequim, Washington, died January 5, 2004, after a long illness.

Bob was born April 19, 1937, in Mason City, Washington, to George Lowell Millman and Doris Isabel (Tesarik) Millman, both who have preceded him in death.

Bob attended Bothell High School in Bothell, Washington.

He served in the United States Navy from 1955 through 1957. He served on the USS Fletcher as a Machinist's Mate.

Upon discharge from the military, he and his father, George, started Kenmore Construction Company. He retired in 1992 as Superintendent of Operations of North Shore Utilities District.

He was a skilled craftsman of stained glass and woodworking. Bob built a beautiful log home on Kirner Ridge in Sequim.

Bob is survived by his wife, Carol Elizabeth (Walker) Millman, who he married in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, on May 26, 1994.

He has two children from a previous marriage, Edward Millman of Seattle and Karen Bliesner of Spokane; four stepchildren, Michael Morris of Phoenix, Arizona, Cynthia Morris and Daniel Morris of Port Angeles, Washington, and Ray Morris of Summerville, South Carolina; and 12 grandchildren.

He is also survived by his bother, Larry Millman, of Silverdale, and two sisters, Louise Phillips and Fay Miller of Kelso.

At his request, there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to: Assured Hospice of Clallam-Jefferson Counties, 720 E. Washington St., Suite 104, Sequim, WA 98382.

Edward I. `Ed' Black

Dec. 15, 1917 -- Jan. 8, 2004

Former Port Angeles resident Edward I. ``Ed" Black died in Everett at age 86.

He was born in Kalispell, Mont., to Ivan J. and Regina Black.

He worked in logging camps, along railroad lines and with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Washington and Oregon before moving to the Olympic Peninsula in 1942.

Mr. Black married Beulah Stringer on Dec. 24, 1942.

The couple made their home in Port Angeles, and Mr. Black worked for the Carlsborg sawmill. He later became a 34-year employee of the Crown Zellerbach mill and retired in 1980 as shift engineer.

Mr. Black enjoyed bowling and was a member of several teams. He also belonged to the Moose Lodge and Port Angeles Eagles Club. With his son, Jim, he was a charter member of the Elks Lodge in Sequim.

After the death of his wife in 1993, he married a longtime friend of the family, Ella Imholt, in 1994.

The Blacks moved to Everett about two years ago.

In addition to his wife, survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Jim and Mary Black and Les and Geni Black, all of Port Angeles; daughters and sons-in-law Uni and Del Walker of Vancouver, Wash., Bea and Barry Stratford of LaPine, Ore; brother George Black of Port Angeles; sister Elsie Felton of Richland; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, six stepchildren, 16 stepgrandchildren and 14 great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by infant daughter Rosalita Mae.

Services: Today, Jan. 13, 2 p.m., funeral, in Gospel Light Temple, Everett. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1 p.m., family graveside service, then a Celebration of Life at 2 p.m. in Olympic View Church of God, 503 N. Brown Road, Sequim. Purdy and Walters with Cassidy Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: Hospice of Clallam County, P.O. Box 2014, Port Angeles, WA 98362; or charity of choice.

Richard Dale Hanon

Aug. 9, 1930 -- Jan. 8, 2004

Quilcene resident Richard Dale Hanon died at age 73, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born in to Ray Parmer and Elise Clarisa (Freeman) Hanon in Albert Lea, Minn., where he graduated from high school in 1948.

He served two tours of duty in the Korean War as a truck driver with the rank of sergeant in the Marine Corps in 1951-53.

He married Joan Darlene Kirmse in Lakewood on June 6, 1957.

Mr. Hanon was in civil service for several years as air terminal manager at McChord Air Force Base.

He retired at age 55 and moved to his Quilcene acreage, where he built a home and fished for salmon.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Hanon's survivors include sons Greg Hanon of Sumner and Michael Hanon of Graham; son and daughter-in-law Shaun and Melissa Hanon of Gig Harbor; sister Donna Oldham of St. Louis, Mo.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sisters Beatrice Stensrud, Thelma Barber and Wilma Haines.

Services: At his request, none. Friends and family will have an informal gathering on Jan. 25, 2004, from noon to 5 p.m., in the Hanon home in Quilcene. Cremains are to be scattered at Sekiu. Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend, is in charge of arrangements.

Gloria Jayne Lanza

Jan. 9, 1945 -- Jan. 8, 2004

Port Angeles-born Gloria Jayne Lanza died of lung cancer the day before her 59th birthday at Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue.

She was the daughter of William F. and Ellen B. (Thomsen) Ludke.

She graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1963 and Peninsula College in 1965 before attending the University of Washington.

She married James A. Lanza in Port Angeles on May 20, 1972.

Since 1981, she worked as a legal secretary in her husband's law office in Bellevue.

Mrs. Lanza enjoyed following the Seattle Mariners, gardening, interior decorating, history, reading, dancing and music, including singing karaoke.

Survivors include her husband of Bellevue; sons Mario Lanza of Carson, Calif., and Dominic Lanza of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; brother Robert Ludke of Maple Valley; sister Mary Martinson of Lake Forest Park; and two grandchildren.

Services: Today, Jan. 13, 4-8 p.m., visitation in Green Funeral Home, 1215 145th Place SE, Bellevue. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 11 a.m., funeral in Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 10420 SE 11th St., Bellevue, followed by 1 p.m. burial in Sunset Hills Memorial Park.

Memorials: Overlake Hospital Medical Center, 1035 116th Ave. NE, Suite 26, Bellevue, WA 98004.

Maizie Doreen `Casey' Maloney

March 27, 1923 -- Jan. 3, 2004

Maizie Doreen ``Casey" Maloney died in Port Angeles of congestive heart failure. She was 80.

She was born in Visalia, Calif., to Francis and Wava (Sappenfield) Grimes.

She married Martin J. Maloney in Hollister, Calif., on May 5, 1950.

The Maloneys first lived in Oakland, Calif., and Carmel, Calif., in the early 1950s, then moved to Seattle before coming to Port Angeles in 1968.

She remained on the property the couple purchased on Deer Park Road for 35 years.

Mrs. Maloney was an active volunteer with the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce, Healthy Families and Humane Society. She was also a generous supporter of local charities, including Peninsula Friends of the Animals and Habitat for Humanity.

She had no children but is survived by brothers David Grimes of Priest River, Idaho, Frank Grimes of Marysville, Calif., and Richard Grimes of St. Paul, Ore.; sister Velma Grimes Shaieb of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; nephews Douglas R. Eggert of Port Angeles and Brown M. Maloney of Sequim; and nieces Molly Maloney Evangelisti of Sacramento, Calif., Ashley Eggert and Melissa Eggert, both of Port Angeles, and Jennifer Grimes Hawes, and Tracy Grimes Jamison, both of Priest River, Idaho.

Her husband died Oct. 30, 1975.

Services: At her request, none. Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles, is in charge.

Laura Mae Wines-Elliott

April 13, 1919 -- Jan. 6, 2004

Laura Mae Wines-Elliott, a Quilcene homemaker for 52½ years, died at age 84.

With a birth weight of four pounds, she started life in a shoebox. She was the eighth of 12 children born to William and Ella Cathern (Marsh) Wines in Miles, a Lincoln County location that is now under Lake Roosevelt.

She married Harry Jackson Elliott on July 9, 1934. He died June 8, 1990.

Her many crafting projects ranged from dolls for her grandchildren through, quilt tops, crocheting and plastic canvas items.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Harry Francis and Doris Elliott of Wenatchee; son Thomas Edwin Elliott of Tacoma; daughter and son-in-law Aldene Catherine and James McCullough of Quilcene; daughter Myrtle Ione Watz of Union; 18 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

One grandson preceded her in death.

Memorials: Graveside inurnment was held in Quilcene cemetery on Jan. 10 with Harry F. Elliott officiating. Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend, was in charge of arrangements.

Lorraine Ellen Wood

Jan. 25, 1929 -- Jan. 9, 2004

Lorraine Ellen Wood died of cancer in her Port Ludlow home at age 74.

She was born in St. Paul, Minn., to Harland and Magdelena (Mosser) Dorfler.

She and her family moved to Seattle in 1946. She graduated from West Seattle High School in 1947.

She married Clarence Donald Anderson in Seattle in 1947. He died in December 1969.

She married James Donald Wood in Seattle on June 20, 1970.

Mrs. Wood retired from Pacific Northwest Bell in 1977.

During retirement, she lived on a boat in La Paz, Mexico. She settled at Port Ludlow in 2001.

Mrs. Wood's survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Dan Lanksbury of Port Ludlow; brother and sister-in-law Bruce and Ruth Dorfler of Montesano; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: None. Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend, is in charge.

Memorials: Hospice of Jefferson County, 824 Sheridan, Port Townsend, WA 98368; or American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 861, Port Angeles, WA 98362.

BETTY L. WILSON

Betty L. Wilson, born February 18, 1925, died at the age of 78.

At the time of her death she resided in Richland for the past three years. The date of her death was January 7, 2004, in Richland.

She was a member of the Christ the King Catholic Church, where funeral services were held on Monday, January 12, 2004, at 11:30.

The family has requested no flowers; however, Betty has requested that any donations be forwarded to the Salvation Army.

Betty's death was preceded by the death of her husband, Jim, son, Richard, and daughter, Rebecca.

Her three daughters, Molly, Catherine and Sandra, and her four sons, Michael, Patrick, David and Larry, survive Betty. She was also the grandparent of 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Betty was the daughter of Raymond and Grace Lindsey. She was the youngest child of four brothers and a sister.

Betty was married to Jim Wilson on June 29, 1946. They raised their nine children in Anaheim, Calif., then retired to Punta Bunda, Mexico, where they spent three wonderful years until her beloved husband died after almost 42 years of marriage.

She lived her remaining years living near her daughter, Cathy, in Port Angeles and then Richland.

After services in Richland and Port Angeles, her ashes will be scattered in Irvine, Calif., near her husband and two deceased children.

Joseph Allan Nixon

Nov. 3, 1922 -- Jan. 8, 2004

Sequim resident Joseph Allan Nixon died of an aortic aneurysm at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was 81.

He was born in Moorestown, N.J., to Allan Borie and Carrie Leona (Wesle) Nixon.

He was in the Navy Reserve, and, from 1939 to 1945, served as a chief machinist's mate in the Pacific Theater, in seven major battles including the battles of Midway and Guadalcanal.

On Sept. 30, 1943, he married Margaret Ruth Buell in Norfolk, Va.

Mr. Nixon was employed by the Westinghouse Corporation at the Naval Reactor Testing Facility in Idaho Falls, Idaho, for 30 years, until retirement in 1986.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sequim, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagle Rock Masonic Lodge in Idaho Falls and Eastern Star of Sequim.

Survivors include his spouse of Sequim; son David Allan Nixon of Toulouse, France; daughters Virginia Carrie Wheeler of Idaho Falls, Margaret Jane Osburn of Renton, and Jo Ann Norton of Salt Lake City; brother Allan Nixon of Manassas, Va.; sister Brenda Banes of Moorestown, N.J.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: Today, Jan. 12, 2 p.m. memorial service at First Baptist Church, 1323 Sequim Dungeness Way, Sequim. Pastor Herman Adcock will officiate. Inurnment Jan. 13, 2:30 p.m. at Tahoma National cemetery with military honors. Bonney-Watson Funeral Home, Seattle, in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: The Organ Fund of the First Baptist Church, 1323 Sequim Dungeness Way, Sequim, WA 98382.
