Detilla, Donna Kay Sunday, 02 Mar 2003
Donna Kay Detilla, 54, a resident of Bremerton, died March 2, 2003.
She was born on Nov. 26, 1948, in Fort Worth, Texas to T. James and Dell (Runnels) Cone.
She married Charles “Chuck” Detilla on Nov. 7, 1992, at the American Legion in Bremerton.
He preceded her in death in Nov. 2000.
She graduated from high school in Fort Worth, Texas. She enjoyed making gift baskets, loved her friends, shopping and helping others, and lived with her two dogs “Odie” and “Buddy.”
She is survived by her brother Tim Cone and his wife Rhonda of Fort Worth; sister-in-law Anne Cone of Port Orchard, nieces Laurie Allen of Mt. Vernon, Wash., Debbie Cone of Port Orchard, Timara Carter of Fort Worth and Donna Dee Issacs of Fort Worth; nephews Thomas James Cone of Port Orchard and James Thomas Cone of Fort Worth; and 1 grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Jerri Kay Wilson and her brother Perry Cone.
Arrangements were handled by Pendleton-Gilchrist at Rill Chapel.

Shoop, Kathryn E. Saturday, 01 Mar 2003
Kathryn Elaine Shoop, 82, died March 1, 2003 at Tacoma General Hospital. she was born on July 31, 1920 in Bovill, Idaho to Henry and Alice Taylor.
She is survived by her husband Don Shoop of Southworth. They married in Tacoma on Dec. 1, 1962.
She graduated from Roy High School in Roy, Wash. in 1938.
She was a homemaker and worked at the Tacoma shipyard and at Fort Lewis PX during WWII.
She enjoyed being with her family, gardening, oil painting, traveling and reading.
She was a member of the Federal Way Ladies of Elks and Representative Expression Art League of Milton.
She was a member of Adventure of Faith Presbyterian Church of Port Orchard.
She is survived by her son Clifford Wilson and his wife Kim of Olalla and two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Glen and Harold Taylor and her sons Larry and Richard Taylor.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00pm on March 8, 2003 at Rill Chapel.
Arrangements were handled by Pendleton-Gilchrist at Rill Chapel.

Gurley, Charles Thursday, 27 Feb 2003
Charles “Chuck” Gurley, 70, a 45-year resident of Port Orchard and Olalla, died Feb. 27, 2003.
He was born in Tishomingo County, Miss., on Aug. 1, 1932.
He retired as superintendent of Shop 99 after 26 years at PSNS.
He was previously employed at Beacon’s Appliance and in his own appliance service.
A member of Colby United Methodist Church, he enjoyed RV travels, gardening, cooking and sports.
Family members include his wife Wilma of Olalla; sons Randy and his wife Leigha of Bremerton and Scott of Olalla; daughters Tamara Rice and her husband Brian and Sharon Kauffman and her husband Howard, all of Port Orchard; sister Lila Marlin of Tupelo, Miss.; and 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and neph-ews.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 3, at Haven of Rest Chapel.
Arrangements by Haven of Rest.
Remembrances may be made to Harrison Home Health, 2520 Cherry Ave., Bremerton, WA 98310-4270.

Johnson, Catherine L. Tuesday, 25 Feb 2003
Catherine L. Johnson, 87, a resident of Port Orchard, died Feb. 25, 2003, at Port Orchard Care Center.
She was born on May 14, 1915, in Omaha, Neb., to John L. and Sadie M. (Thompson) Sullivan.
She married Charles C. Johnson on Sept. 1, 1933 in Denver, Colo. He preceded her in death in 1975.
She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Omaha, Neb., in 1932. She worked as a secretary for 20 years.
She was involved with Sunnyslope Community Association, Sunnyslope Garden Clubs, TOPS, Harmony Club and Sunny Daze Homemakers. She was a member of St. Gabriels Catholic Church.
She is survived by her sons Charles Lee Johnson and his wife Verda of Logandale, Nev. and Richard L. Johnson and his wife Shirley of Omaha, Neb.; daughters Charline Caldwell and her husband Dutch of Port Orchard, Marian Guhl and her husband Bob of Conestoga, Pa., and Kathleen Pudley and her husband Jim also of Port Orchard; sister Margaret Amato and her husband Joe of Omaha, Neb.; and 34 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sons William and Lawrence Johnson.
Visitation will be held on March 2, 2003, at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Mass will be held on March 3, 2003, at 11 a.m. at St. Gabriels Catholic Church in Port Orchard followed by interment at Sunset Lane cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Memorial donations can be made to Sunnyslope Improvement Club.

Anderson, Howard A. Sunday, 23 Feb 2003
Howard A. Anderson, 55, a resident of Gig Harbor, died Feb. 23, 2003, at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Aug. 27, 1947, in Gig Harbor to Dean and Darlene (Fisher) Anderson. He married Penney J. (Beatty) Anderson on Dec. 31, 1994, in Bremerton.
He attended South Kitsap High School and Peninsula High School. He worked for 32 years as a heavy equipment operator for Scarsella Brothers Construction of Seattle.
He was a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 612 of Tacoma and Local 302 of Bremerton.
He is survived by his wife Penney Anderson of Gig Harbor; mother Darlene Anderson of Port Orchard; sons Darell Anthony Anderson of Purdy, Daniel Troy Anderson also of Purdy, and step-son Jacob Goranson of Gig Harbor; daughters Rhonda Joleen Anderson of Purdy, and step-daughters Amber Goranson of Tacoma and Heather Ruckman of Gig Harbor; brother Ralph Melvin Anderson of Tacoma; sister Kristen LaVern Anderson of Olalla; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father Dean Anderson and brother Dennis Dean Anderson.
A funeral and memorial service was held Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard. Interment was at Fraola cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Mosier, Myrtle Saturday, 06 Dec 2003
Myrtle I. Mosier, 79, a resident of Port Orchard, died Dec. 6, 2003.
She was born on Jan. 17, 1924, in Aberdeen to Fred and Gertrude (Fiscus) Mallette. She married Edward L. Mosier on April 4, 1942.
She graduated from Weather Wax High School in Aberdeen. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Belfair Assembly of God where she taught Sunday School for the past 52 years.
She is survived by her husband Edward Mosier of Port Orchard; son David L. Mosier, Sr.; daughter Kristeen and husband Timothy Hamar of Port Orchard; grandchildren Michelle Moore, David L. Mosier, Jr., T. Paul Hamar and Angela blair; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
A memorial will be held at the Belfair Assembly of God on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

Fairley, Flossie Thursday, 04 Dec 2003
Former Port Orchard resident Flossie June Fairley died Dec. 4, 2003, in Poulsbo.
She was 90.
Fairley was born to William Harvey and Leah Alice (Salmon) Hungate in Montgomery County, Va., on May 14, 1913.
She married Walter Fairley in 1986 in Bremerton.
Fairley attended high school in Montgomery County, Va.
She worked as a waitress and night manager at VIP’s Restaurant until her retirement in 1983.
She enjoyed reading and sewing.
She is survived by her husband Walter Fairley of Bremerton; son Fred Wright of Virginia; daughter Lucille Riddles of Independence, Kan.; sisters Margie of Texas and Carol of Hansville; five grandchildren and many great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren and great, great, great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.
There will be no formal service held. Lewis Funeral Chapel of Bremerton is taking care of the arrangements.
Memorial contributions can be made to Martha & Mary of Poulsbo.

Smith, Sylvia Wednesday, 03 Dec 2003
Sylvia C. Smith, 67, a resident of Port Orchard, died Dec. 3, 2003, at Harrison Memorial Hospital. She was born on Oct. 5, 1936, in San Francisco, Calif. to Robert and Zella (Mahood) Lee. She married Waldon L. Smith on Aug. 28, 1958, in San Francisco.
She graduated from high school in San Francisco. She was a homemaker, wife and mother.
She was a devoted Seattle Mariners fan and enjoyed taking care of her family.
She is survived by her husband, Waldon Smith, of Port Orchard; son Marty Smith of Port Townsend; daughters Kim Smitha and her husband Randy of Hawaii and Mechell of Seattle; and grandchildren Morgan, Mikey, Monica and Angela.
She was preceded in death by Luther E. Newman.
A memorial was held on Dec. 6 at Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center. Inurnment was at Sunset Lane Memorial Park.
Arrangements were made by Rill Chapel’s Life Tribute Center.
