Robert L. ‘Bob’ Wolff
BROOKFIELD - Robert L. "Bob" Wolff, of Brookfield, entered into eternal life Sept. 19, 2000, at the age of 78.

He was the beloved husband of Sophie (nee Hoeppner); loving father of Bonnie (Ronald) Reichert and Robert "Bob" (Christine); and dear grandfather of Adam, Matthew, Valery and Joshua. He is further survived by a sister, Harriet, and other relatives and frineds.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at Christ The Lord Ev. Lutheran Church, 1650 N. Brookfield Rd. A private inurnment will be be held at Highland Memorial Park.

Dorothy R. Milkowski
PEWAUKEE - Dorothy R. Milkowski (nee Manske), 78, a lifelong resident of Pewaukee, was born to eternal life Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at her home.

Dorothy was the loving mother of Bonnie McDonald of Dousman and Jay (Georgann) Milkowski of Green Bay. She was the proud grandmother of Dan and Kathy McDonald and Dana Milkowski. She was the dear sister of Helen Russ of Waukesha and the fond sister-in-law of Richard and Margaret Milkowski of Pewaukee. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, and her parents, Charles and Louise Manske.

Dorothy was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church and a graduate of Pewaukee High School.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Yonke and Son Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Krause will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of the funeral service. Interment will be at Forest Hill cemetery, Pewaukee.

Gabriel Robert Swift
WAUKESHA - Gabriel Robert Swift, infant son of Denise Schroeder and Robert Swift of Waukesha, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital where he had been born the day before.

Besides his parents, Gabriel is also survived by his brother, Anthony Swift of Milwaukee; his maternal grandmother, Suzanne Schroeder of Mukwonago; his paternal grandmother, Bette Skaggs of Milwaukee; and aunts, uncles, several cousins and friends.

Gabriel was preceded in death by a sister, Jennifer Elizabeth Swift (Oct. 3, 1998); his maternal grandfather, Kenneth Schroeder Sr.; and his paternal grandfather, Emert Swift.

A memorial service for Gabriel will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home-West on Moreland Boulevard in Waukesha. Deacon Tom McGuine from St. John Neumann Catholic Church will be the officiant. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 p.m. Saturday until the time of the service at 4 p.m.

Esther J. Heiden
PEWAUKEE - Esther J. Heiden (nee Koskelin) of Pewaukee was born to eternal life on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at the age of 88.

Esther was the loving mother of William (Marilynn) Heiden of Livermore, Colo., and John "Jack" (Mary Ann) Heiden of Woodbridge, Va. She was the dear grandmother of Tami Byrd of Livermore, Colo., Terri (Phil) Cave of Martinsburg, W.Va., Toni (Todd) Schulyer of Lititz, Pa., and Bowman John Heiden of Bel Air, Mass. She was the proud great-grandmother of Abbey, Emily and Leah. She was the fond sister of Irene Cerney of Sun City West, Ariz., Edith Thompson of Marquette, Mich., and Leo (Lillian) Koskelin of Eagle River. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the Yonke and Son Funeral Home. The Rev. William McBride will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Interment will be in Forest Hill cemetery, Pewaukee.

Frances C. Mertig
HAYWARD - Frances C. Mertig, 92, of Hayward, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at the Valley Health Care Center in Hayward.

Frances Clara Lee was born Aug. 28, 1908, in Waukesha, the daughter of Gilbert and Wilhelmina Lee. She was joined in marriage to Fred Mertig on July 26, 1930, in Waukesha, where they lived until December of 1944 when they moved to Hayward. She was a resident of Bass Lake since 1945.

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Leon) Suhsen of Hayward; her son, James Mertig of Hayward; four grandchildren, Scott (Robin) Suhsen of Princeton, Minn., Lora (John) Decker of St. Louis Park, Minn., Lynn (Bill) Theys of Franksville and Steven Suhsen of Hayward; seven great-grandchildren, Tamara, Chance, Amanda, Jessica, Billy, Kymberly and Mikayla; and a sister, Doris (Alllan) Clouse of Waukesha. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; her granddaughter, Nancy Suhsen; her sisters, Betty Hibgie and Laura Katzner; and her parents.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Koerpel Funeral Home, 10603 California Ave., Hayward; the Rev. Daniel Schrock officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. service on Saturday. Interment will be in the Greenwood cemetery in Hayward.

Grace M. Fligge
EAST TROY - Grace M. Fligge, of East Troy, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at Kiwanis Manor in East Troy. She was 86.

Grace was born in Milwaukee on Sept. 17, 1914, to August and Reinhilda (nee Buckethal) Dellmann.

She was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary in Mukwonago. She was also a member of Mount Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mukwonago, where she was financial secretary for many years.

Survivors include a brother-in-law, Raymond (Betty) Fligge of West Bend; a niece, Carol (Phillip) Anderson of Madison, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; and brothers and sisters.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 28, at Mount Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church, 211 Main St., Mukwonago. The Rev. Steven C. Kuhl will officiate. Interment will take place privately at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield.

Memorials to the church would be appreciated.

Gerald E. Polster
DOUSMAN - Gerald E. Polster of Dousman, formerly of Oak Creek, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at his home at the age of 75. He was born in Oak Creek on March 16, 1925, the son of Herman and Mary (nee Brickler) Polster. On May 15, 1948, he married Catherine Felder.

Gerald was retired after 21 years of employment with the Waukesha County Highway Department. He also farmed in the town of Summit for many years. He was a member and a church usher for many years at St. Bruno’s Catholic Church in Dousman, and was a member of the Dousman Fire Department for 21 years.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine (nee Felder); his daughter, Geraldine Wolf of Waukesha; his son, Patrick (Tina) Polster of Waukesha; his sisters, Lorraine Guckenberger of South Milwaukee, Marilyn (James) Stewart of South Milwaukee and Diane (Bert) Foltz of Dousman; his brothers, Duane (Clara) Polster of Oak Creek, and Robert (Helen) Polster of Dousman; four grandchildren, Nichole and Dustin Wolf and Gabrielle and Chelsea Polster; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at St. Bruno’s Catholic Church in Dousman. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with the Rev. John Schreiter officiating. Burial will be at St. Bruno’s cemetery at 9 a.m. Thursday.

Memorials to St. Bruno’s Endowment Fund or the Dousman Fire Department are appreciated.

Russell M. Shirley
TOWN OF VERNON - Russell M. Shirley, of the town of Vernon, passed away having flown to his eternal rest on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at age 72. He was born Jan. 10, 1928, in Atlanta, Ga., to Evelyn and Paul Herrington.

He was the beloved husband of Barbara Shirley; the devoted father to Russell G. (Sherry) Shirley and their children, Stephanie and Daniel; Kimberly Ann Shirley and Denise (Rudy) Casey. He was the beloved friend of Margaret Shirley. Russell was dearly loved and will be fondly missed by family, friends and all who knew him.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, at Schmidt & Bartelt-Van Valin Funeral Home, 315 Main St., Mukwonago. A service will be held for family and friends at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials and donations to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.

Robert P. Wickersham
WAUKESHA - Robert P. Wickersham, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at home at the age of 68. He was born March 7, 1932, in Milwaukee, the son of the late George and Helen (nee Piper) Wickersham.

He was a member of the Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ. He served as a Marine in the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. Bob was an avid Packer fan.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Janet; his stepchildren, William (Barbara) Sinclair of Milwaukee, Susan Gorski of Rockford, Ill., Jill Forbes of Wauwatosa and Kevin (April) Sinclair of West Allis; his brothers, James (the late Darlyne) of Bruce, Kenneth (the late Dawn) of Brazil, Ind., and the late Richard (Frances) of Springdale, Ark.; his sister, Lois Theune of Wabeno and the late Kay (Clarence) Myhra of Menomonee Falls; his grandchildren, Joseph Durkatz, U.S. Navy, Jennifer and Charles Durkatz, Andrew and Logan Forbes, Rebecca, Sara and Justin Gorski; his special nieces, Kris, Kerry, Kathe, Diane and Sue; his mother-in-law, Helen (the late Charles) Kuehn; his brother-in-law, James (Bunny) Kuehn; and his sister-in-law, Kathleen (Randall) Miller, all of Jefferson; and special friends, Donald (Betty) Clark and Warren and Pat Ranz. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and neighbors. A special thanks to Dr. Stephen Baker, Covenant Home Hospice, and special nurse, Beth, and also Claire.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice.

Funeral services for Bob will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at the Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ, 413 Wisconsin Ave. Pastor David Switzer will officiate. Friends may call at the church from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. Private burial will be in Prairie Home cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Salvation Army or the Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ.

Norman A. ‘Norm’ Zehms
ROME, Wis. - Norman A. "Norm" Zehms, 64, of Rome, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at Fort Atkinson Memorial Health Services.

He was born Nov. 8, 1935, in Rhinelander, the son of Willard and Claribel (Kelsey) Zehms. He married Shirley Troemel on Sept. 9, 1956, in Yuma, Ariz. He served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years and served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He worked for Haliburton-Waukesha Engine Division for 24 years, retiring in 1998.

He was a member of the Bob Reed Memorial American Legion Post 513 of Rome, the Jefferson County 40 et 8, Voiture 750, and the Sullivan Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10604.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Rome; three sons, Norman Zehms Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn., Shay (Jennifer) Zehms of Tomah and Gregory (Genevieve) Zehms of Fairchild, Calif.; one daughter, Lauri (Russell) Walton of Westboro; three grandsons, Gregory, Garrett and Daniel Zehms; six granddaughters, Ashli, Lindsay, Lani and Elizabeth Zehms, Nicole Miller and Shannon Walton; two sisters, Rhea Davis of Tulsa, Okla., and Mary (Bill) Cummings of Allenton; three brothers, Alan (Jan) Prosser of Wautoma, Mike (Sue) Prosser of Jefferson and Robert (Lynn) Zehms of Hubertus; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Cindy Archibald. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at the Olsen Funeral Home, 221 S. Center Ave., Jefferson. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, and from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. services on Friday. Burial with military rites will take place at 2 p.m. Friday in the Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial cemetery in Union Grove.

Florence Louise Hetzel
WAUKESHA - Florence Louise Hetzel, 86, of Waukesha, died Wednesday Sept. 27, 2000, at the Waters of Westmoreland in Waukesha. Florence was born April 1, 1914, in Hartland, a daughter of the late Paul and Edith (nee Wieland) Adrian. In 1932, she married George J. Hetzel in Hartland; he preceded her in death in 1996. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sugar Hetzel; brother, Robert Adrian; and sister, Hazel Bumpas.

She is survived by her son, Thomas Hetzel of Racine; four grandchildren, Laura Hetzel of Kenosha, Michael Thomas (Jenny) Hetzel of Milwaukee, Greg Thomas Hetzel of Richton Park, Ill., and Penny (Rick) Curley of Rubicon; five great-grandchildren, Jaylen, Jaszmine, Brandon, Matthew and Eric; a sister-in-law, Emma Keske of Waukesha; special cousins, Johnny and Sandy Crawford of Waukesha, Barbara (Walley) Karst of Madison, Nancy (Adrian) Reed of Woodstock, Ga., Jean (Art) Krueger of Loganville, Ga.; along with other relatives and friends.

Graveside services for Florence will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Pilgrims Rest cemetery in the town of Pewaukee.

Audrey Vandenbush (nee Bauer)
MUKWONAGO - Audrey Vandenbush (nee Bauer), 63, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000. She was born in Waukesha on Nov. 20, 1936, to Raymond and Florence (nee Liepke) Bauer. Audrey was a 1955 graduate of Waukesha High School.

She is loved and will be sadly missed by her husband, William Vandenbush, and her children, Jeff (Debra) Martin of Cape Girardo, Mo., Michael Martin of Dousman, Jacqueline (James) Hickey of McFarland and Daniel (Lisa) Martin of Gratiot. She is further survived by 18 grandchildren and stepchildren, Michael (Lauri) Vandenbush of Waukesha, Susan (Fernando) Escabedo of Waukesha, Carla (Jerry) Gean of Dousman and Lynn Vandenbush of Milwaukee. She is also lovingly survived by her three sisters and two brothers, Jean (Ralph) Shapiro of Redondo Beach, Calif., Margaret (Tony) Calavitta of Milwaukee, Lloyd (Judith) Bauer of Odgensburg, Geraldine (David) Brisk of Waukesha and Gale (Kathy) Bauer of Mauston; special friends, Clarence and Betty Anderson of Sussex; nieces, nephews and many other loving friends. Audrey was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Bauer, in 1976, and her mother, Florence Bauer, on August 25, 2000.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha, and then to St. John Neumann Catholic Church for the Funeral Mass at noon with Fr. Glen Graczyk officiating. Graveside services will follow at Prairie Home cemetery.

Audrey will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and great-aunt. She had a wonderful sense of humor and has touched the lives of all who knew her. Her family would like to express a special thank you to Pam and Maureen, Audrey’s nurses from ProHealth Home Care Rolland Nelson Crossroads Hospice.

Edith F. Pieper
WAUKESHA - Edith F. Pieper of Waukesha found peace after a long battle Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at The Waters of Westmoreland at the age of 81.

She is survived by her sister, Hulda Sabatino; her brother-in-law, Anthony Sabatino; and her niece, Darlene Fluegge. She is further survived by many close friends and relatives.

The memorial service for Edith will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, in the Spring City Room at The Waters of Westmoreland. The Rev. Richard Oberley will officiate. Burial will be at Graceland cemetery in Milwaukee.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the charity of the donor’s choice are appreciated.
