Osborne Roberts
July 31, 1925 – Dec. 18, 2010

Osborne “Ozzie” Roberts Jones, age 85, Mauston, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 18, at Alden Estate of Countryside in Jefferson.

Osborne was born in Wild Rose on July 31, 1925, the son of Charles and Barbara (Roberts) Jones. Osborne enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 and served from June 18, 1943 until Feb. 2, 1946 as a gunner on a merchant ship, the SS Amos G. Throop. He landed at Normandy on D-Day +2, and later served at Ie Shima in the Pacific Theater. After his discharge in 1946, he re-enlisted on March 3, 1946 and served as a printer until his final discharge on Jan. 9, 1948. Osborne started work at Madison Kipp in 1948 and later worked in the maintenance and security department for UW-Madison from 1956-1987. Osborne was an active member of the Mauston VFW Post #2114.

Surviving are tow sisters: Mary L. Hartwig, Fitchburg, and Blodwyn Cockrell, Portola, OR. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition he leaves many close friends at Colonial Manor in Mauston.

Osborne was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Charles A. Jones, and a sister, Grace D. Rumpf.

Graveside Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 29 at the Caersalem cemetery, Wild Rose, with military graveside rites.

Those planning an expression may wish to consider a memorial to Caersalem cemetery or the Mauston VFW Post #2114.

Harland E. Semrow

Harland E. Semrow, Town of Dakota, passed away unexpectedly, Friday evening, Dec. 17, 2010 at Theda Clark Medical Center.

Funeral services are pending. A complete obituary will appear in next week’s Argus.

Sharon L. Warzynski
April 24, 1951 – July 4, 2011

Sharon L. Warzynski, age 60, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2011 surrounded by her loving family at her home in Almond. She was born April 24, 1951 in Cumberland County, NC, the daughter of Walter and Anna (Braun) Lea. On July 27, 2002, Sharon married Alvin L. Warzynski, Jr. in the Town of Belmont, Portage Co. He preceded her in death on April 11, 2011. Sharon worked many years at Sentry Insurance and enjoyed baking, gardening, and sewing. She will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends.

Sharon is survived by her children: Alvin L. Warzynski, III of Almond; Mark Warzynski of Almond; and Jamie (Edwar) Barker of Wisconsin Rapids; two grandsons: Chase and Austin Warzynski of Almond; sister: Lori (Dan) Ortner of Pittsville; and a very special friend: Sandy Warzynski of Bancroft. Sharon is also survived by many special nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Anna Lea, and her husband, Alvin L. Warzynski, Jr.

A Funeral Service was held on Friday, July 8, 2011 at 7 p.m. at the Hardell-Holly Funeral Home in Almond. Deacon Jim Trzinski officiated. A visitation was held on Friday from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Hardell-Holly Funeral Home in Almond. The Hardell-Holly Funeral Home of Almond assisted the family with arrangements.

Robert M. Gitter
March 24, 1962 – June 20, 2011

Robert M. Gitter, age 49, Coeur d’Alene, ID, formerly of Pine River, died on June 20, 2011 in Coeur d’Alene, ID. He was born on March 24, 1962 in Berlin, the son of James and Myrtle (Stumpner) Gitter.

Robert is survived by his mother: Myrtle Gitter of Pine River; brother: Tim (Kelly) Gitter of Green Bay; sister: Mary (Ken) Teske of Fort Myers, FL; and nieces: Hannah and Jenna Gitter of Green Bay. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends. His father, James Gitter, preceded him in death.

Robert was a graduate of Wild Rose High School. He was a craftsman and owned his own furniture making business in Coeur d’Alene for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. He was a NASCAR fan, and he loved spending time with his dog, Dusty.

A Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, July 16 at 7 p.m. at the Holly Funeral Home in Poy Sippi with Karen Nesbit, Parish Director, officiating. A memorial visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 16. The Holly Funeral Home of Poy Sippi is assisting the family with arrangements.

Elwood A. Buschke
June 13, 1915 – July 5, 2011

Elwood A. Buschke, at the age of 96, passed away on July 5, 2001 at Berlin Memorial Hospital. Elwood was born June 13, 1915 to Fred and Nellia (Humphery) Buschke in Coloma. He graduated from Hancock High School on June 1, 1934. He married Marjorie Runnels on Nov. 23, 1938 in Montello.

Elwood and Marjorie farmed in the township of Deerfield and Coloma until 1952 when they moved to Westfield, farming in the Russel Flats area. Later they bought a farm from Max Weiland in Springfield Township. They retired from farming in 1978. Elwood continued to farm, working for Hockerman Bros and later for the Buchholz Farms. Marjorie preceded Elwood in death on Aug. 24, 1994.

Elwood had a great love of dancing where he met and later married Lucille Makurat on Oct. 26, 1996. As Elwood’s Alzheimer’s progressed, it became necessary to move to the Heartland House in Wautoma in September of 2008, where he remained until his time of death.

Elwood is survived by his wife: Lucille; daughter: Idella (Vernon) Endthoff; three grandchildren: Debra Dahl of Naples, FL; Mark (Karen) Weir of Bonita Springs, FL; Gary Weir of Westfield; great grandchildren: Amber Brakebush, Westfield; Brandon Dahl, Madison; Shanna Weir, Madison; Tyler and Jnel Weir, Coloma; Stephanie Huff, Bonita Springs, FL; great great grandchildren: Trinity, Jade and Lyric of Westfield; sister: Verna Shead of Neshkoro; stepson: Ralph Makurat; step grandchildren: Scott (Ashley) Makurat; Kay (Jay) Williams; step great grandchildren: Carter and Riley Makurat; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Elwood was preceded in death by his parents: Fred and Nellia Buschke; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Eldon and Muriel Buschke and Dorm and Irma Runnels; a brother-in-law: Lawrence Shead; nephew: Gary Buschke; and mother- and father-in-law: Robert DC and Hazel Runnels.

A celebration of life will be held on July 16 at Faith United Methodist Church in Westfield at 12 p.m. Burial was at Hillside cemetery in Coloma. Leikness Funeral Home of Wautoma served the family.

Marlene J. Menning
Aug. 20, 1938 – July 4, 2011

Marlene J. Menning, age 72, formerly of Hancock, passed away Monday, July 4, 2011.

She was born Aug. 20, 1938 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Frederick and Louise (Langohr) Noodwang.

She is survived by three daughters: Joyce Anderson, Wisconsin Rapids; Karen Menning, Wisconsin Rapids; and Donna Vetrone, Stevens Point; one son: Donald Brewer, Almond; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one brother: Frederick Noodwang, Illinois; one sister: Sandra (Douglas) Olson, Hancock.

Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday, July 14 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Plainfield Community Center.

Phyllis E. Marsh
April 26, 1931 – July 8, 2011

Phyllis E. Marsh, age 80, of Plainfield, died peacefully with her husband by her side on Friday, July 8, 2011, at her home following a three-year battle with cancer.

She was born April 26, 1931 in the Town of Oasis, Waushara County, the daughter of Mylen and Tressie (Grimm) Hetzel. She married Richard L. Marsh on June 26, 1959 at the Little Brown Church in Iowa.

Phyllis farmed with her family on the Hetzel family homestead in the Town of Oasis for many years. She loved gardening, raising flowers, and crossword puzzles. Phyllis also enjoyed traveling with her husband, playing Bingo and fishing.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years: Richard L. Marsh, Plainfield; three sisters-in-law: Peggy Hetzel, Plainfield; Beryl Flyte, Hancock; Margaret Beeman, Friendship. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Gerald Hetzel and Robert Hetzel; one sister-in-law: Donna Hetzel.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 13 at 11 a.m. at the Almond United Methodist Church with Rev. David Leistra officiating. Burial will be in North Deerfield cemetery, Town of Deerfield.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the Church from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

Tina B. Pogrant
July 31, 1931 – July 24, 2011

Tina B. Pogrant, 79, Wild Rose, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, July 24, 2011, surrounded by her daughter and five grandchildren at Theda Clark Medical Center, Neenah. She was born July 31, 1931, the daughter of the late George and Clara (Whitkop) Heckendorf. She married Robert H. Pogrant, who preceded her in death in December 1993.

Born" target="_blank">Born in Athens, Tina lived in Milwaukee before retiring to Wild Rose. She traveled to St. Petersburg, FL for many years and treasured her many sunny winters with friends and family.

Tina loved gardening, antique collecting, and live folk music. She was an amazing seamstress and created beautiful embroidery, cross-stitch, and jewelry. Additionally, she enjoyed cooking, clogging with her husband, and being involved with the Hills Lake Association and Idlewild Airport.

Survivors include her daughter: Beverly Jo Pogrant, Wichita, KS; five grandchildren: Jason Deblois; Cerene (Chad) Setliff; Jessie Dulberger; Stephanie Ritz; and Matthew Ritz; four great-grandchildren; siblings: Louise Pittsley; Edward Heckendorf; Ruth (Thomas) Wendt; Albert (Shirley) Heckendorf; and Lynn Kelly.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Robert; two brothers: Earl and Fritz; and her daughter: Diane Pogrant.

A small private memorial was held at her residence July 30, 2011. The family thanks Ruth Wendt, Jack Dickson, Stephanie Ritz, and the late Diane Pogrant, for their care and compassion over the past 11 years.

Mavis I. Schmude
March 19, 1928 – July 27, 2011

Mavis Ila Schmude, age 83, of Berlin, formerly of Poy Sippi, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, July 27, 2011 at St. Agnes Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac.

Mavis was born March 19, 1928 in Almond, the daughter of Clarence and Dora (Levin) Young. She was a 1945 Graduate of the Almond High School. Mavis was united in marriage with Leo Schmude on Oct. 5, 1946 in Almond. Leo preceded Mavis in death Jan. 1, 1982.

Mavis worked at Lambskin in Berlin for many years. After retiring from Lambskin, she was employed as head waitress at the Mascoutin Club in Berlin until she moved to the Saxeville area in 1985. She made many long-time friends in that area as a bartender first at Oakwood Campsites and then for many years at the Ding.

Mavis was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed refinishing furniture. She was an energetic person who never sat still. She liked having a good time and visiting the casinos. Her great-grandchildren remember special times with her. Mavis had been a member of the Poy Sippi United Methodist Church.

She will be sadly missed by her son-in-law: Wally Coats; grandchildren: Tim Coats and Ronda Coats; great-grandchildren: Evan Coats, Mariah and Alexis Rios, all of Kenosha; her sister: Melva Eswein of Wisconsin Rapids; and her brother: Morris (Anna) Young of Almond.

In addition to her husband Leo, Mavis was also preceded in death by her daughter, Lana Coats, who passed away March 10, 2011.

Memorial services for Mavis I. Schmude will be held Saturday, Aug. 6 at 11 a.m. at the Poy Sippi United Methodist Church. The Church is located at W2256 Liberty Street, 1 block East of State Highway 49- Behind the Bank in Poy Sippi. The Rev. George Groves will officiate. Mavis will be laid to rest in the Poy Sippi cemetery at a later date.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at the Church on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. one hour prior to the Memorial Services.

Memorials in Mavis’ memory will be appreciated by the family for the St. Agnes Hospice Home of Hope, 400 County Trunk K, Fond du Lac, WI 54937

Marvin E. Zuelke
Oct. 9, 1927 – July 29, 2011

Marvin E. Zuelke, age 83 of Westfield, died on Friday, July 29, 2011 at Juliette Manor in Berlin. He was born on Oct. 9, 1927, son of the late Ervin and Pearl (Berry) Zuelke. Marvin married Jernette O. Zabel on Nov. 2, 1947 in the Town of Crystal Lake. She preceded him in death on Nov. 24, 1983. He owned and operated Zuelke Trucking for 48 years and farmed in the towns of Crystal Lake and Newton. On Jan. 30, 1985, Marvin married Betty J. Scherer in Oshkosh.

Survivors include his wife: Betty; three step-daughters: Mary (Ray) Dinger, Oshkosh; Vicky (Rodney) Jones, Omro; and Sue Scherer, Oshkosh; two step-grandchildren: Billy Laiten and Jennifer Kent; two brothers: Jerome (Vonda Rae), Westfield; and DuWayne (Jean), Wautoma; four nephews; two nieces; other relatives and many friends.

A funeral service for Marvin was held on Wednesday, Aug. 3, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Town of Newton with Rev. Ronald Schultz officiating. Burial was in St. Paul Lutheran cemetery, Town of Newton. A visitation was held on Tuesday, Aug. 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home, Westfield and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Steinhaus-Holly Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Westfield served the family. '

Roman R. Macijeski
Sept. 27, 1918 – July 30, 2011

Roman R. Macijeski, 92, Wild Rose, passed away peacefully July 30, 2011, at Rosemore Retirement Village.

Roman was born on Sept. 27, 1918, in the Town of Rose, Waushara County, to the late Phil and Francis Macijeski. Roman enlisted in the US Army in 1941 before the draft began, and saw action in the Pacific Theatre and received the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star. He was a member of the Wild Rose American Legion Post 370.

Returning to the Town of Rose after the war, Roman continued to farm with his brothers Dan and John on the family farm.

He married Helen Warzynski Hudziak on Feb. 14, 1961, in Heffron. She preceded him in death on Aug. 19, 2010. In their nearly 50 years of marriage, they took many trips together to Las Vegas, Hawaii, Florida and Jamaica.

Later in life, Roman worked at the lumberyard in Wild Rose. He enjoyed building small items for his family and own use, many of which were built to stand the test of time.

He was active with his church, originally St. John the Baptist in Heffron, now St. Maximillian Kolbe in Southeast Portage County. For many years he called the people to worship by ringing the bell before Sunday Mass began.

Roman was a patient, gentle man who loved spending time with his family. Dzia-dzia will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his family: Norman (Jeannette) Hudziak, Wild Rose; Sharon Lorenz, Wild Rose; and Lee Ann (Thomas) Lella, Wausau; great-grandchildren: Rebecca (Taj) Schumacher, Wautoma; and Michael Lella, Wausau; and two great-great-grandchildren: Dexter and Amara Schumacher, Wautoma. He is further survived by his brother: Dan (Bertha) Macijeski, Wild Rose; and many nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Mass for Roman will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 4 at 11 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church with Father Dan Farley presiding. The visitation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 3 at the Maple Crest Funeral Home in Waupaca from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will follow in Hope cemetery in Heffron, with full military honors.
