John R. Biolo
John R. Biolo, 86, Green Bay, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, in Fond du Lac. He was born Feb. 8, 1916, in Iron Mountain, Michigan, to the late Alexander and Lucia (Marchetti) Biolo. On May 29, 1943, he married Joan Geiss of Racine in Kenosha. They had been married for 36 years when she preceded him in death on July 25, 1979.

John was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School, where he was a member of the All U.P. Football Team. He later graduated from Lake Forest College, where he received his B.A. While in college, John played football for three years and was the captain of an undefeated and untied team his senior year. He was named all-conference and Little All American in 1938. John also attended UWGB, the University of Idaho, the University of Iowa on N.S.F. scholarships, and he attended Western State Cal. in Gunnison County.

In 1939, John played with the Green Bay Packers and helped them become World Champions. Following his year with the Packers, he played and coached with Johnny "Blood" McNally with the Kenosha Cardinals in 1940 and 1941. With the start of World War II, John joined the U.S. Navy Air Corps on Dec. 27, 1941. He was a naval aviator-carrier pilot until Nov. 11, 1946. John served in Panama on anti-sub patrol and in the South Pacific at the end of the war.

After service, he taught economics and was assistant coach to Tom Hearden at St. Norbert College from 1946 to 1951. He later earned his M.A. from Marquette University in 1951 while still teaching at St. Norbert College. In 1951, John went to Green Bay West High School as a teacher and was assistant coach to Frosty Ferzacca. He became athletic director and head coach of football and track in 1954. In his 12 years as head coach, the football team won the FRVC Championship six times, and he was selected as coach of the year twice and was runner-up three times. His total record was 89-23-4. In 1960, his team was rated No. 1 in the state. He had only two losing seasons. These happened when Southwest High School was built, and he lost half of his squad to the new school, and he had to rebuild.

John was head coach of track for nine years and claimed a dual and triangular meet record of 51 wins, 13 defeats and two ties. He won four conference championships and finished second three other times. They won the state championship in 1954 and finished second in the state twice. They captured two conference relay titles and were runners-up four times. He won four sectional championships and added two seconds. In 1966, he gave up coaching to become the assistant principal. He took over as principal in 1970. As principal, he assumed leadership in implementing girls sports in Green Bay. In 1972, he was elected to the WIAA Advisory Council and served the maximum six years. He was selected chairman of the council and served from 1977 to 1978. While in this role, John helped establish football playoffs in Wisconsin. In 1977, he became administrative assistant to the superintendent of all extracurricular activities in the Green Bay Public Schools. He served on the Green Bay Education Association from 1958 to 1959 and was president in l959.

John was also active in community activities such as charitable drives for St. Agnes Church and the Sisters of Charity. John was a member of the American Legion Post No. 11 since 1946. He served as the athletic director and on the executive committee of the American Legion. He was a past president of the St. Agnes Parish Council and also served on the St. Agnes Board of Education as president. He was a past member of the Elks Club in Green Bay.

John was inducted as a charter member of the Lake Forest College Hall of Fame, the U.P. Sports Hall Of Fame and was a charter member of the Wisconsin Coaches Hall Of Fame.

Following his early retirement in 1979, he returned to West High School as an assistant coach. He had presently been running the Green Bay sectional basketball tournament at the Brown County Arena and had done so for 16 years. He was also a member of S.C.O.R.E. (Service Corps of Retired Executives) for seven years. John proudly served on the Board of Directors of the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame for over 20 years. He was an NFL Alumni past president. John chaired the Green Bay Packers Homecoming from 1968 to the present and was a charter member of the Green Bay Packers Alumni Association and served as secretary for 16 years as well as three terms as president.

In his retirement he returned to UWGB. as an ad hoc instructor and supervised student teachers until 1985.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, Theresa Biolo, Fond du Lac, John Jr. and Julie Biolo, Green Bay, Peter and Sunny Biolo, Rhinelander, Paul and Debbie Biolo, Whitefish, Montana, Fluffy and Mark Aerts, Green Bay, Tom and Lynn Biolo, Fond du Lac; 24 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Angela Ganga, Iron Mountain, Michigan, one brother, Robert Biolo, Marquette, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, his parents and 10 brothers and sisters.

Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday. There will be an American Legion Memorial Service at 4:15 p.m. Sunday. There will be a Parish Wake Service at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Friends may also call at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1484 Ninth St., from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday. The Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Burial will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park.

The Biolo family wishes to thank the staffs of Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac and Grancare Nursing Home in Green Bay for all of their compassion and care of John.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Dorothy (Mrs. Emmett) Bohmann
Mrs. Emmett (Dorothy) Bohmann, 87, lifelong Green Bay resident, died Thursday, February 6, 2003, after a long illness. She was born June 28, 1915, to Frank and Agnes (Cejka) Jansen. Dorothy was a graduate of Green Bay East High School and NWTI. She had been employed by Hurlbut's Coal Company before her marriage. On September 6, 1941, she married Emmett Bohmann at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. She was a member of St. Jude Parish and their Women's Club. Dorothy was a former Girl Scout Leader, a member of the B.P.O.E. (Elks) and the Catholic Women's Club. She was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross.

Survivors include her husband, Emmett; two daughters, Judith Blazei, Green Bay, and Nancy Peterson, Margate, Fla.; four grandchildren, Robert Blazei, Dennis (Tracie) Blazei, James Peterson, Nancy Rose (Moqtadir) Naim; and one great-grandchild, Ryan Blazei.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son-in-law, Richard Peterson. Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mike Ingold and Ann Froelich, Pastoral Associate for St. Jude Parish, officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.

Thomas Boncher
Thomas Boncher, 60, Green Bay. A private service and cremation were handled by West Mason Malcore Funeral Home, 1530 W. Mason St. Survivors include his wife, Judy; two sons, Rob (Meredith) Boncher, Denmark, Mike Boncher, Green Bay; five grandchildren.

Genevieve P. Coenen
Genevieve P. Coenen, 91, De Pere. Visitation 9-11 a.m. today at St. Mary Catholic Community, 4805 Sportsman Drive, town of Ledgeview. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. today at the church. Survivors include one daughter, Joanne Seitz, Green Bay; one grandson; two granddaughters; six great-grandchildren.

Hildegard C. Denis
Hildegard C. Denis, 87, Green Bay. Visitation 4-8 p.m. today at Schauer & Schumacher Funeral Home, 340 S. Monroe Ave., and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, 140 S. Monroe Ave. Parish wake service 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 Saturday at the church. Survivors include one brother, Cletus Weinfurter, New Berlin.

Dennis K. Kral
Denis K. Kral, age 66, Appleton, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, February 6, 2003. He was born July 26, 1936, to the late Killian H. and Pearl M. (Boesewetter) Kral, in West Bend, Wisconsin, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1957. Dennis served with the U.S.Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He taught in Mt. Prospect, Ill., Arlington Heights, Ill., Merrill, Wis., and Kaukauna, Wis., the subjects of speech, English and debate. Dennis was then employed by Winnebago Mental Health Institute until his retirement in 1990. Following his retirement, he volunteered with Project Home and Cots. Dennis was always a good and honest man and was a Life Master bridge player.

Survivors include his son, Michael Kral Kim, and his wife, Bich Kim, Appleton; two grandchildren, Dennis Kral Kim and Pearl Thi Kim; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Lloyd and Lenore Kral, Arizona, Ronald J. Kral, Green Bay; three nephews and a niece, Kenneth Kral, Kathy Kral (Jim Pollack), Kevin (Diana) Kral and Kurt Kral.

Funeral services for Dennis will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 8, 2003, at the funeral home with Deacon Patrick Whitcomb officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, West Bend. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m., Saturday, until the time of the service.

LeRoy J. LaViolette
LeRoy J. LaViolette, 65, Green Bay, died unexpectedly at a local hospital on Thursday, February 6, 2003.

The family will receive friends at the Pfotenhauer Funeral Home, East-Town Location, 2379 East Mason Street, on Sunday, Feb. 9, from 3 until 8 p.m. Parish Prayer Service 7 p.m. Sunday. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Bernard Parish, 2040 Hillside Lane, until the time of service. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Timothy Shillcox, O.Praem, officiating. Entombment in Allouez Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers and other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established in LeRoy's name at the funeral home.

Ralph John Naniot, 72, Green Bay. Bonnie L. Riggle
Bonnie L. Riggle, 68, Bellevue. Visitation 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St, and 9:30-11 a.m. Monday at Bethany United Methodist Church, 1110 Echo Lane. Funeral 11 a.m. Monday at the church.

Survivors include her husband, Robert; her children, Max (Betty) Riggle, Green Bay, Nancy McInnis, Pulaski, Michelle (David) Demeuse, Bellevue; 10 grandchildren; one great grandchild; one sister, Jenny Jones, Rochester Hills, Mich.; one brother, Hiram Atkinson, Dayton, Ohio.

Michael Thayse, 40, Algoma. Visitation until 10:30 a.m. today at Wiesner & Massart Funeral Home, 107 Wiesner Ave., Casco. Funeral 11 a.m. today at St. Peter Catholic Church, Lincoln. Survivors include two brothers, Mark and Matthew Thayse, Algoma; maternal grandmother, Mercedes Uecker.

Michael T. Vandertie
Michael T. Vandertie, 38, Green Bay. Visitation 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. Funeral Service 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Survivors include his son, Eric; his parents, Terry and Mary; two sisters, Valerie (Michael) Verheyden, Green Bay, Tracy (Chad) Goltz, Green Bay; paternal grandparents, Adolph and Adeline Vandertie; Eric's mother, Melinda Vandertie.

Lee Charles Ward
Lee Charles Ward, 59, Krakow. Visitation after 2 p.m. Saturday at Marnocha Funeral Home, 186 E. Pulaski St., Pulaski. Memorial service 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Survivors include one sister, Ethel Bierhals, Pulaski; one brother, Allen Ward, Las Vegas, Nev.
