EDNA M. HAMMOND (NEE TANK)

WAUPACA, WI

Age 92– passed away on September 29, 2005 at
Bethany Home in Waupaca, WI. She was born on
December 5, 1912 in Marathon County, WI, the
daughter of the late Henry G. and Marie (Parsch)
Tank. She married Kenneth Hammond on June 21,
1934 in Milwaukee, WI. He preceded her in death.
She was the dear mother of Wilma (Fred) Peters of
Laguna Hills, CA, and Carol (Dallas) Auman of
Green Bay, WI, grandmother to Pamela Banks, Gaye
Anderson, and Linda Wanless, and great
grandmother to Jourdan Banks, Payton Banks, and
Brook Wanless. She is further survived by a
sister-in-law: Adeline Tank, and many other
relatives and friends. Upon Edna’s request there
will be no funeral service. Burial of cremains
will be in the Lower Amherst cemetery, Amherst,
WI.

Benjamin Hirte

Benjamin C Hirte, age 74, of Waupaca, WI, passed
away peacefully, Friday, October 21st, 2005 at
Bethany Home in Waupaca, surrounded by his loving
family. He was born in Weyauwega, WI, on July 13,
1931, the son of F. William and Ona (Quade)
Hirte. Ben graduated from Weyauwega High School
in 1949. He served in the United States Marine
Corp from 1951 to 1953. On June 26, 1954, he
married Kathryn Rowland at Trinity Lutheran
Church in Waupaca. Ben was employed at
Kreemline Dairy, Waupaca Foundry and Wisconsin
Veterans Home, retiring in 1995 after 30 years.
Following retirement, Ben enjoyed working at
Bethany Home as a transportation driver. He was
an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Ben
was an avid sports fan, who enjoyed bowling, dart
ball and playing sheepshead. Ben was also a
devoted Green Bay Packer and Braves fan. Ben
enjoyed spending time with his family, especially
his grandchildren at his cottage on Taylor Lake.
He is survived by Wife: Kathryn Hirte, Waupaca,
WI; Children: David (Nancy) Hirte; Lana (Richard)
Wood; Sheri (Dale) Hines; Joni (Timothy) Suhs;
Marcia (Tracy) Johnson all of Waupaca, WI; Paul
(Patty) Hirte, Kaukauna, WI; Grandchildren:
Michael (Melanie), Erin & Kari Hirte; Benjamin,
Megan & Jacob Wood; Mara & Mathew (Molly) Hines;
Todd & Tori Suhs; Carl, Craig, & Marcus Johnson
and Chad & Kathryn Hirte. Sisters: Cecile
Hirte, Weyauwega, WI; Iris Rogers, Waupun, WI;
Brother: Duane (Karrie) Hirte, Shawano, WI. He
is further survived by: Sisters-in-law, Norma
(Stan) Bergum, Rice Lake, WI and Shirley (Dennis)
Borndale, St. Paul, MN. Benjamin is also survived
by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many
friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother,
David; Brother-in-law, Clifford Rogers;
Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law, Delano and
Patricia Rowland and twin infant grandsons.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Monday,
October 24, 2005 at the Trinity Lutheran Church
in Waupaca with the Reverend Sean Motley and
Reverend Fred Lueders officiating. Interment
will be in Lakeside Memorial Park in Waupaca. A
visitation will be held 4:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday
at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca and on Monday
at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the
service. A memorial fund has been established in
Ben's name.

Harvey Schulke

HARVEY P. SCHULKE

WAUPACA, WISCONSIN

Age 75 passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2005
at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca. He was
born November 17, 1929 in the Town of Belmont,
Portage Co.; son of Fred and Laurina (Prill)
Schulke. On April 30, 1955, Harvey married
Lorraine Borchert at St. Paul’s Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Amherst, WI.

Harvey is survived by:

Wife: Lorraine Schulke of Waupaca

Son: Douglas Schulke of Waupaca

Daughter: Judy (fiancé, Tim Rice) Allard of
Waupaca

Brother: Harlan (Irene) Schulke of Almond

Sister: Lenora (Louie) Peters of Waupaca

Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son,
Darren Schulke, and a brother, Edwin Schulke.

A Funeral Service will be on Monday, October 10,
2005 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Amherst. Reverend Chris
Schwanz will officiate. A visitation will be
held on Sunday evening, Oct. 9, from 5:00 – 7:00
PM at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst
and also one hour prior to the service on Monday
at the church. Burial will be at Greenwood
cemetery in Amherst following the services on
Monday. The Jungers-Holly Funeral Home of
Amherst is assisting the family with
arrangements.

Dr. William Kennedy

Services:

A Memorial Service for family and close friends will
be 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at Holly
Funeral Home Waupaca, Wisconsin. A memorial
gathering will be Monday, October 31 from 4:00 -
8:00 PM at Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca.

Dr. William F. Kennedy died Wednesday, October 26,
2005 due to heart failure. He was born in
Janesville, Wisconsin on December 3, 1929.

He graduated from St. Thomas Military Academy,
St. Paul, Minnesota in 1949, where he received
all-state honors in basketball. He completed his
pre-medical education at Marquette University,
Milwaukee, WI in 1952, and was admitted to
Marquette University School of Medicine, where he
received his MD degree in 1956.

After completing his internship at Columbia
Hospital, Milwaukee, WI, he served two years in
the U.S. Army as a captain assigned to the 4th
Infantry Division. He was then accepted into
Fellowship Residency Training in Milwaukee under
Professor Walter P. Blount. Following his four
year orthopedic residency and a traveling
fellowship to Massachusetts General Hospital in
Boston, Dr. Kennedy opened his independent
orthopedic practice in Neenah, Wisconsin in 1963.
His entire 31 year orthopedic career was spent at
Theda Clark Regional Medical Center.

In the early 1980's he established The Kennedy
Center for the Hip & Knee at TCRMC. The Kennedy
Center continues to be recognized as a leading
hip and knee clinic in the Midwest. In 1982, he
designed a cementless total hip replacement
system (Biomet Taperloc) which remains one of the
most commonly used cementless hip components in
the U.S. and Europe.

Theda Clark Regional Medical Center supported his
pioneer hip research by providing a special
operating room which allowed hundreds of visiting
international surgeons to observe his surgical
techniques. Dr. Kennedy authored several
scientific orthopedic papers which were published
in the orthopedic literature. He also lectured
throughout the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East.
He was certified by the American Board of
Orthopedic Surgeons, and belonged to numerous
Orthopedic Societies.

Dr. Kennedy retired from the Kennedy Center in
1994. He resided in Waupaca, Wisconsin and
Haines City, Florida with his beloved wife, Gina
(Griesser) Kennedy.

He is survived by his wife, Gina and his six
children: Colleen Kennedy (Tom Kelly) ,
Potomac, Maryland; Michael (Esmarie) Kennedy, San
Antonio, Texas; Maureen Kennedy (Gary Kikuchi),
Morris Plains, New Jersey; William (Denise)
Kennedy, Abrams, Wisconsin; Kathleen Israel
Wollersheim (Jeff) , Neenah, Wisconsin; Thomas
Kennedy, San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived
by eleven grandchildren: Caitlin and Patrick
Kelly; Shannon and Daniel Kikuchi; Amber Fross
and Brian Kennedy; Patricia, Billy, and James
Israel; and Alex and Megan Wollersheim. He is
further survived by his brother: Martin (Mary)
Kennedy, Janesville, WI and a sister: Carol
(Gary) Brahms, Edina, MN.

A Memorial Service for family and close friends
will be 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at
Holly Funeral Home Waupaca, Wisconsin. A
memorial gathering will be Monday, October 31
from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at Holly Funeral Home in
Waupaca. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been
established to benefit children with Rett
Syndrome, a neurological disorder with which his
granddaughter Caitlin Kelly is afflicted.

Margaret Fleege

Margaret (Peg) E. Fleege, age 83, of Waupaca, WI ,
passed away Saturday, May 6th, 2006 at St.
Vincent's Hospital in Green Bay, WI, following a
brief and valiant battle with cancer.

Peg, a resident of Waupaca, WI, was born December
23, 1922 in Rewey, WI to Walter and Mabel (Enloe)
Hansen. She graduated from the Cuba City, WI
High School in 1940 and the University of
WI-Platteville in 1943 with a degree in
Elementary Education. Subsequently, she taught
at Westby, Beaver Dam, Wausau and
Dochester/Unity, retiring in 1983. In July, 1944
Peg married her high school sweetheart, Dalton
Fleege. Their 61 years of marriage brought
occasion to move 33 times around the country.
She enjoyed traveling, both in the United States
and internationally, including China, Japan,
Portugal, Spain, Morocco and often to Mexico,
along with cruises to various ports.

Peg was passionate about her family; celebrating
holidays and family gatherings were always done
with style and abundantly good food. She was a
woman of inexhaustible energy and pursued many
hobbies. She was an accomplished knitter,
seamstress and pianist.

An enthusiastic golfer, Peg played extensively
during summers in WI and winters in south Texas.
Fascinated by genealogy, she spent countless hours
documenting the histories of her extended family.
A selfless volunteer, she offered her time to many
causes, including, but not limited to, special
education programs in Texas, the Veterans Home in
King, WI and along with her husband, a campground
host in national forests.

Peg was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic
Church and VFW Auxiliary of Waupaca.

She is survived by Husband: Dalton Fleege,
Waupaca, WI; Children: Madge (Woody) Bishop,
Stevens Point, WI; Dru Peters, Stevens Point, WI;
Drake (Kathy) Fleege, Hartford, WI; Clark (Judy)
Fleege, Boise, ID; six grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren and a Brother: Randall
(Jane) Hansen, Minneapolis, MN. Further survived
by nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends.

A Memorial Service will be held 10 AM on Friday,
May 12, 2006 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic
Community Church in Waupaca with Father James
Vennix officiating. Interment of cremains will
be in St. Mary Catholic cemetery. A memorial
visitation will be held at the church on Friday
from 9 AM until the time of the service. In lieu
of flowers, contributions will be forwarded to the
American Cancer Society. The Holly Funeral Home
of Waupaca assisted the family with arrangements.
