JULIAN “JUTE” R. HENKE

AMHERST JCT., WISCONSIN

Age 89 passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at
the Stevens Point Care Center in the Village of
Whiting. He was born September 10, 1916 in the
Town of New Hope; son of Fred and Tena (Melum)
Henke. On November 11, 1946, Julian married
Alice M. Hintz in Stevens Point, WI. She
preceded him in death on July 14, 1991. Julian
worked on his father’s farm growing up until his
late teens. He joined the U.S. Navy during WWII
and worked on an LST supply ship in the pacific.
After the war in 1946, Julian came home to
Nelsonville where he worked at the Henke-Melum
Hardware Store. During that time he was also a
private milk hauler. He later worked for the
maintenance dept. at the UW-Stevens Point and was
a rural mail carrier in this area until his
retirement. He liked hunting, fishing, playing
cards, reading, watching sports, and doing
projects at home. Julian especially enjoyed
spending time with his family and friends.
Julian was a member of Nelsonville Lutheran
Church in Nelsonville, WI.

Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife,
Alice Henke, three brothers, Carroll, Willard,
and Eugene Henke, and a sister, Irene
Segafredo.

A Funeral Service will be on Saturday, May 20,
2006 at 11:00 AM at the Nelsonville Lutheran
Church in Nelsonville. Reverend Gretchen
Anderson will officiate. A visitation will be
held on Friday evening, May 19, from 5:00 – 8:00
PM at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst
and also one hour prior to the service on
Saturday at the church. Burial will be at
Nelsonville Lutheran cemetery in the Town of New
Hope following the services on Saturday. The
Jungers-Holly Funeral Home of Amherst is
assisting the family with arrangements.

Marjorie DeVaud

Marjorie G. DeVaud, age 91, of Waupaca, WI, passed
away Friday, May 19th, 2006 at Bethany Home in
Waupaca. She was born in Tigerton, WI on
September 26, 1914, the daughter of Dr. Adam J.
and Mary (Roemer) Gates. She married John DeVaud
on October 19, 1937 in Clintonville, WI. Marge
was active in the Red Cross and a member of
Eastern Star. She enjoyed golfing, curling, and
was an avid bridge player. Marge and John moved
to Waupaca in 1967 where John served as Waupaca
County Treasurer until 1985. In Waupaca, Marge
worked as a school nurse for 14 years. John
preceded her in death on August 23, 2001.

In May of 2001 Marjorie married Dr. Lewis Thomas
in Clintonville.

Marjorie is survived by Husband: Lewis Thomas,
Waupaca, WI; Daughter: Lynne (Keith) Zauner,
Greenfield, WI; Son: Craig A. (JoAnn) DeVaud,
Oshkosh, WI; Step-Sons: Mark (Pam) Thomas,
Birmingham, MI; John (Sheri) Thomas, Hudson, WI;
Seven Grandchildren; Two Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first
husband, John DeVaud; an infant daughter, and a
brother, Wallace Gates.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on
Monday, May 22, 2006 at the Holly Funeral Home in
Waupaca with Reverend Fred Lueders officiating.
Interment of cremains will be in Greenleaf
cemetery in Marion. A Memorial Visitation will
be held Monday at the funeral home from 10 AM
until the time of the service. A memorial has
been established in Marjorie's name.

Carrol Winkler

The Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM at First
Baptist Church, Waupaca, WI with Rev. Larry Gross,
officiating. Visitation will take place on Tuesday
from 11 AM - 1PM at the church. Interment will be
in the Elmwood cemetery in the Town of Belmont,
Portage County, WI.

Carrol Lloyd Winkler, passed away on May 19, 2006
in Waupaca, WI at the age of 91. He was born on
June 20, 1914, in the Town of Lanark, Portage
County, Wisconsin and was the second of three
children of Oscar J. and Averil (Johnson)
Winkler. He attended Badger School in the Town
of Lanark and graduated from Waupaca High School
in 1932. He lived most of his life on the Town
of Lanark family farm previously owned by his
father.

He served his community well. He was clerk of
the Badger School Board for many years until its
consolidation into the Waupaca School System and
he served as Sunday School Superintendent of the
Badger Church for more than forty years. He was
elected and served as Chairman of the Town of
Lanark for thirty-six years from 1959 to 1995 and
also was elected to the Portage County Board of
Supervisors where he served from 1977 to 1993.
He was elected Deacon of the First Baptist Church
in 2004.

After high school Carrol worked on the family
farm and later started his own farm. He
continued farming the rest of his life while also
working for the Marketing Division of the
Wisconsin Department of Agriculture and owning
and managing an independent insurance
business.

Carrol married Beverly Newby in the Town of
Buena Vista on June 30, 1938. Beverly preceded
him in death on May 19, 2000. He is survived by
four children: Richard (Jean) Winkler of Fond du
Lac, WI; Cheryl (Peter) Ziegler of Madison, WI;
Donald (Carolyn Winter) Winkler of Washington,
D.C.; and Candice Harshner of Duluth, MN He is
also survived by nine grandchildren, nine great
grandchildren and Gertie Mentik, a special
friend. He was also preceded in death by two
sisters - Lois Edminster and Genevieve
Barnhart.

The Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM at
First Baptist Church, Waupaca, WI with Rev. Larry
Gross, officiating. Visitation will take place
on Tuesday from 11 AM - 1PM at the church.
Interment will be in the Elmwood cemetery in the
Town of Belmont, Portage County, WI.

Carrol was a devout man who cared deeply for his
family, friends, and community. He expressed deep
appreciation for the loving care and attention he
received at the Bethany Home and by the Community
Hospice Foundation. The family requests that
donations be made to the Community Hospice
Foundation or the First Baptist Church Beverly
Winkler Scholarship Fund of Waupaca in lieu of
flowers. Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca is
assisting the family with arrangements.

DEVIN “DEVBOY” A. PARKER

PINE RIVER, WISCONSIN

Age 19 passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2006. He
was born August 22, 1986 in Wild Rose, WI; son of
Jerry A. and Beverly (Christensen) Parker. Devboy
loved to fish, golf, frisbee golf, skateboard, and
grow plants. He had a hearty appetite and loved
to eat. He was afraid of heights but conquered
his fear when his girlfriend took him on his
first and only airplane flight on his last
birthday.

Devin is survived by:

Sister: Danielle “Sissy” Parker of Pine River,
WI

Carol (Lowell) Williams of West Allis, WI

Janice (Mike) Nowling of New Hope, MN

Girlfriend: Emily Craker of Iola, WI

Also survived by many cousins, other relatives,
and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry A.
Parker, maternal grandmother, Frieda Christensen,
paternal grandparents, Darwin and Esther Parker,
and his cousin, Steve Parker.

A Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, May 23,
2006 at 11:00 AM at the Holly Funeral Home in
Waupaca. Pastor Terry Wilson will officiate. A
visitation will be held on Monday evening, May
22, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Holly Funeral Home
in Waupaca. Burial will be at Crystal Lake
cemetery in the Town of Dayton following the
services on Tuesday.
