Erasmo Garza

Erasmo Garza Jr or Roz of Wisconsin Rapids, formerly Stevens Point, passed away Tuesday evening, April 19 at his home at the age of 63, under the care of his wife and Ministry Hospice, after a long battle with cancer.

Roz was born in Corpus Cristi, Texas on June 22, 1947 to Elvira and Erasmo Garza Sr. The oldest of 16 children in a family of migrant workers he understood the meaning of hardwork. He worked hard his entire life to attain a better family environment for his own family teaching his children that you can do anything as long as you want it bad it enough and work hard for it.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, also of Wisconsin Rapids, three daughters, Virginia and Lameko Aiono Jr of Gilbert, AZ, Veronica and Tim Shaw of Neilsville, WI, and Rhiannon and Bradley Hewitt of Phoenix, AZ, his ten grandchildren, Natasha, Paige, Hailey, August, Jason, Teyanna, Tanner, Mariya, Alexis, Noelle, and several brothers and sisters. Roz was predeceased in death by his parents, several siblings, and his son, Aaron.

Theresa M. Wachowiak

Theresa M. Wachowiak, age 94, formerly of Illinois Av. in Stevens Point died Sunday April 24,2011 at the Portage County Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10: 30AM on thursday at St. Bronislava Catholic Church in Plover. The Rev. Greg Bohren will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.Friends may call at the church from 9: 30AM until the service. The Shuda Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. A memorial has been established in her name for Pacelli High School.

Theresa was born in Portage County on April 27, l9l6, the daughter of the late John & Ida (Kowalski) Dulek. She attended local schools. She married John Wachowiak on November 12, l937 at St Bronislava Church. During WWII they lived in Baraboo, WI. After WWII they returned to Stevens Point and Theresa was a homemaker. She also did catering and worked on weddings. Her specialty was making wedding cakes. She enjoyed traveling and attending family functions. God, her family and the Catholic Church were her life. She received all the sacraments from Baptism to her funeral mass at St. Bronislava Catholic Church.

She was a Eucharistic Minister at St Bronislava, for the homebound and at the Portage County Home. She was a promoter for St Anthony's Retreat Center in Marathon and a member of St Bronislava Rosary Society (50 Years) , Catholic Womens Club ( 50 Years) and the Knights Of Columbus Auxiliary. She was past president & treasurer of the Rosary Society.

Theresa is survived by one daughter Rosanne (John) Yetter of Stevens Point-- five sons: David (Lavonne) --Gary (Kathy) --Peter (Cynthia) --Paul (Cheryl) all of Stevens Point and Luke of Mosinee. Seventeen grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren. Two sisters Beatrice Mandry of Wisconsin Rapids and Angeline Garner of Menomenee. She was preceded in death by her husband John on November 14,1990 and four brothers and five sisters.

I say goodbye to all the people who have supported me in my own journey, parents, children, teachers, friends who have loved, listened, laughed and cried with me, witnessing to the power of God's love.

Theresa's children would like to express a special thank you to the north wing of the Portage County Health Care Center for the loving and compassionate care provided to our mother.

Ella Green

Ella Green age 88 passed away Sunday April 24, 2011 at Harmony House. Arrangements are pending at this time.

Regina T. Ostrowski-Groshek

Regina T. Ostrowski-Groshek, 95, 5625 Sandpiper Drive, Stevens Point, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at her home, surrounded by her family.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Alan Burkhardt officiating. Interment will follow in the Guardian Angel cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at the Shuda Funeral Chapel at 3200 Stanley St., Stevens Point, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a rosary to be said at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be at the church from 9 a.m. Monday until the time of services.

Mrs. Groshek was born July 20, 1913, to the late John and Martha (Klesmith) Kirschling in Portage County. She was raised in the town of Stockton, and attended school at Sacred Heart in Polonia. She spent five years training to be a professional seamstress with Herman Altman, a leading tailor in Stevens Point in the 1920s and 1930s.

On Oct. 9, 1935, she was married to Clayton Ostrowski. She worked alongside her husband, a professional photographer, in their business, Clayton's Studio. He died Aug. 23, 1967.

On June 29, 1968, she was married to Leonard Groshek. She accompanied and assisted him in his duties as state representative for Portage County. He died Jan. 21, 1988.

She was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, donating many of her custom-made quilts and items for various fundraising events. She was a member of St. Anne's Society. She was also a lifetime member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and St. Peter Catholic Church Rosary groups and an active member of the Portage County Democratic Party.

Her survivors include her daughter, Marian (Jim R.) Falk, and son, Leon (Patricia) Ostrowski, both of Plover; and stepdaughters, Anita (Richard) Gosh and Darlene Marchel, Stevens Point, and Robert Jablonski (special friend) , all of Stevens Point. There are six grandchildren, June (Falk) Brooks, Robert and Joel Falk, Debra (Ostrowski) Setzke, Lynn (Ostrowski) Dyer, and Brian Ostrowski; and 12 great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Martha (Larry) Rosenthal of Stevens Point; two sisters-in-law, Roseline Kirschling, Menasha, and Loretta Kirschling, Stevens Point, and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by daughter, Grace; five brothers, Edward, Stanley, Chester, Frank and Raymond Kirschling; two sisters, Lucille Netzel and Eleanor Dulak; one stepdaughter, Audrey (Groshek) Pieczynski; and one stepgreat-granddaughter.

A memorial will be established in lieu of flowers.

Wayne "Jack" Suskey

Wayne "Jack" Suskey, 82 of the Plover - Wisconsin Rapids area passed away March 27, 2009 in New Mexico while returning from vacation in Arizona . Military graveside services for Mr. Suskey will be held at the Plover cemetery at 11: 00 a.m. on May 16th. The Plover - Shuda Family Funeral Service & Crematory are assisting the family.

Jack as he was known, was born in Manitowoc the son of Peter and Helen (Hausner) Suskey. He served four years in the United States Navy in WWII, was a charter member of the American Legion Palash-Platt Post #543 where he served as a past commander and other offices. He was a life member of VFW Post 10262 in Plover.

Jack worked as a shipping foreman for Consolidated Papers, Biron Division, for 43 years and also did construction jobs. In recent years health problems caused more confinement, he became an avid reader and story teller. He enjoyed bingo and casino trips. Winters were spent in Florida and Arizona . The last ended in Gallup , NM while traveling. The Rehoboth McKinley Christian Hospital in Gallup treated him for his heart that gave out. He was anointed by Fr. Mathew Keller. Jack is survived by his wife Dorothy, nee Whiteman; two sons: Wesley D. (Lynda Gruber-Suskey) Suskey, La Crosse ; Ted A. (Judi) Suskey, Plover. One daughter: Jackleen (Dean) Johnson , Nevada . He was preceded in death by his parents and their son Peter Wayne Suskey.

Dorothy L. Soik

Dorothy L. Soik, 84, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at the Portage County Health Care Center.

Dorothy was born Oct. 31, 1924, in Stevens Point, the daughter of the late Joseph and Luella (Loberg) Mattice. She graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1942. She married Victor Soik on Sept. 12, 1942, at St. Stephen Catholic Church.

She worked for Portesi Pizza for 32 years. Dorothy enjoyed traveling, walking, biking, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Fireman's Auxiliary.

She is survived by two daughters, Lovonne (David) Wachowiak of Stevens Point and Mary Lou Bogen of Schofield; 11 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor; one son, Joseph; and one sister, Ellen Hopp.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Stevens Point. The Rev. George Thayilkuzhithottu will officiate. Burial will be in the Guardian Angel cemetery, Stevens Point. Friends may call from 9: 30 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the church.

Dorothy's family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of the South Wing at the Portage County Health Care Center for the loving care they provided for our mother and grandmother.

The Shuda Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name to the Alzheimer's Association.

Loretta M. Sterling

Loretta M. Sterling, age 85 of 2941 River Dr in Plover, died Nov. 21,2009 at the Stevens Point Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10: 30AM on Wednesday at St Bronislava Catholic Church. The Rev. Sagayaraj Augustine will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8PM on Tuesday at the Plover-Shuda Family Funeral Home. The St Bronislava Rosary Society will combine with the general rosary at 6: 30PM. The American Legion Auxillary # 543 will have a ritual at 7PM. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9: 30AM until the time of services.

Loretta was born June 18,l924 in Wyandatte, MI, a daughter of the late Joseph & Laura (Betker) Eickendorf. She attended St Peter's Grade School and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1943. She worked at Preway and as a cook at Roosevelt School. She enjoyed traveling, card playing. crocheting and shopping.

She was a member of St Bronislava Rosary Society, American Legion Auxillary Post #543, Narfe, Napus, and Senior Citizens Club.

Loretta married George Sterling on June 29,l946. George died on Dec. 18,l982. She is survived by two granddaughters Jennifer & Tori Sterling. One great-grandson Sterling Keller. Two sisters Carol (Richard) Pliska & Joyce Farley. One brother Maurice (Ann) Eickendorf and a sister-in-law Dorothy Eickendorf. She was preceded in death by a son Jerry, two sisters Jeanette Sniadajewski & Lorraine Eickendorf and one brother Roman Eickendorf.

Audrey M Glodowski

Audrey M. Glodowski age 71 of Stevens Point passed away Sunday morning November 29, 2009 at Wellington Place.

Services for Audrey will be at 1: 00 PM Thursday December 3, 2009 at the Shuda Funeral Chapel. Dwaine Habrat will officiate. Friends may call from 12: 30 PM to the time of services at the funeral chapel. Burial will be at Guardian Angel cemetery.

Audrey was born April 13, 1938 in Stevens Point the daughter of Chet and Lillian (Goytowski) Glodowski. She attended local schools and graduated from P.J.Jacobs High School. She married Carlyle (Carl) Bennett in 1958, the couple later divorced. In later years she enjoyed rummage sales, playing her organ and singing and enjoying the company of her cat Little Girl.

Audrey is survived by her four children: Dawn (Kenneth) Smith, Phoenix, AZ; Alan (Julie) Bennett, Spokane, WA; Mark Bennett, Tomah; Richard (Rick) Bennett, Stevens Point. Five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One sister: Pat (Phil) Simkowski, Kellner. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

John Rockwood

John (Jack) Rockwood, 70, died peacefully at his home following emergency surgery Sunday, Nov. 22.

After a successful career as an aerospace engineer in which he constantly sought and conquered new challenges, he returned to Wisconsin and spend his years in retirement as a tireless volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and the Disabled American Veterans wheelchair shop in King. All those who knew him were touched by his sincerity and passion for getting the job done right, no matter how large. In the many roles he filled, he was well-loved and respected for his generosity with both his time and tremendous abilities. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

In accordance with Jack's wishes, there will be a private celebration of his life and interment at a later date. Donations in his name are welcome at the Central Wisconsin Habitat for Humanity, www.central wisconsinhabitat.org.

Roberta (Bobby) Betro

Roberta (Bobby) Betro, age 77, died Wednesday December 2,2009 at The Lodge at Whispiring Pines.

She was born on July 19,l932 in Plover, the daughter of the late Wilmont & Ruth (Newby) Kennison. She graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School. She married Clarence Betro on September 25,l954. She and her husband farmed until his death in 1987.

She is survived by three sons--Jack (Pam) and Mike of Stevens Point and Steve of Oxford. Two daughters Josie Betro of Amherst & Pauline (David) Bombard of Elroy. Eleven grandchildren & six great-grandchildren. One sister Wilma Scharver of Altamonte Springs, Florida.

Private funeral services and burial will be held at the VA Center in King, WI. The Shuda Funeral Chapel assisted the family.

Edward P. Czaplewski Jr

Edward P. Czaplewski Jr., age 87 of Stevens Point passed away Sunday morning April 5, 2009 at St. Michaels Hospital. Funeral services for Mr. Czaplewski will be held at 6: 30 PM Thursday April 9, 2009 at the Plover - Shuda Family Funeral Home in Plover. Dwaine Habrat will officiate. Visitation will be from 4: 00 PM to the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be at the St. Adalbert Catholic cemetery at 11: 00 AM Saturday.

Edward was born December 11, 1921 in Milwaukee, the son of Edward and Helen (Ciesinski) Czaplewski. After he completed his schooling he entered the United States Army on November 21, 1941 in Milwaukee. He served as a PFC in the United States Army . During his service he earned the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, A Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on November 22 1945 in Santa Ana, CA. He married Bernice Simonis on February 2, 1946 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Stevens Point. The couple moved to Milwaukee and Edward began his career at the Ladish Company in Milwaukee. He worked there until retirement. The couple moved to Plover and Edward enjoyed fishing, gardening, going to the casino, and woodworking during his retirement years.

He is survived by his children: Ann (Darren) Ray, MI; Kathleen Rohn, Columbus, WI; Edward Czaplewski III, Plover; Gary (Fran) Czaplewski, Stevens Point; Paul Czaplewski, Plover; Nancy (Joseph) Peterson, DE; Julie Zabawa, Stevens Point. 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. His brother Ron (Judy) Czaplewski, Milwaukee. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bernice in 2001, four sisters and one brother.

Elizabeth Platta

Elizabeth Ann Platta, 77, formerly of 1869 Five Corner Road, Amherst Junction, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at St. Michael's Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Custer, with the Rev. Rajen Anandan officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 9: 30 a.m. Saturday until the services. The Shuda Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Condolences may be offered online at shudafuneral.com.

Mrs. Platta was born July 19, 1932, in Stevens Point, a daughter of the late Michael and Charlotte (Dehlinger) Liebe. She graduated from Maria High School and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, receiving a degree in music. She taught music for Jim Laabs Music Store and also had her own studio called Teaching Service by Liz, which she ran until 2003, when she retired due to illness. She also played dinner music at the American Legion Club and later the Moose Lodge on Friday evenings. She was married to Clarence Platta on Oct. 22, 1960, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He died on Jan. 10, 2008. They had met as musicians and formed their own band "Rhythm Masters," which was an old-time music band.

Survivors include three sons, Charles (Lynn) , Custer, Clarence, Amherst Junction, and Stephen, Plover; three daughters, Theresa (Andrew) Klemme, Saratoga, Bonita (Rick) Hummell, Madison, and Debra (Jack) Pichette, Hilbert; four brothers, Victor Liebe, Rhinelander, Michael (Lucy) Liebe, Stevens Point, Bernie ( (Judy) Liebe, Custer, and Carl (Barb) Liebe, Villa Park, Ill.; one sister, Mary (Wes) Erskine, Alcorn; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Agnes Ambroziak

Agnes Ambroziak, age 91 of 809 Lindbergh Avenue passed away Thursday evening December 3, 2009 at the Strawberry Lane Medical and Rehabilitative Center in Wisconsin Rapids. She was under the care of Ministry Care Hospice Services.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, December 8 at the Stevens Point Shuda Funeral Chapel, 3200 Stanley Street from 4: 00 to 7: 00 pm. The St. Stanislaus Rosary Society will lead a general rosary at 6: 00 PM.

A mass of christian burial for Agnes will be held at 11: 00 AM Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with visitation at the church beginning at 10: 00 AM. Rev. George Thayilkuzhithottu will officiate. Burial will be at Guardian Angel cemetery.

Agnes was born October 27, 1918 in the Town of Knowlton, the daughter of Ignatius and Katherine (Wengelski) Lesniak. She attended grade school in Knowlton and later worked at Allen Bradley in Milwaukee in the 1940's. She married Alexander Ambroziak on October 12, 1946 in Knowlton and together they raised a family and farmed in Junction City until 1978 when they moved to Stevens Point. Agnes also worked for Point Sporting Goods in the 1980's. She will be especially remembered for her superb baking (in particular, her banana cream pie) and cooking skills and selfless generosity. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and visiting with friends and relatives, especially her grandchildren.

Agnes is survived by her husband of 63 years Alexander; their three children and 12 grandchildren: Donna (Larry) Saddison, Rosholt and their children: Kris Spindler, Stevens Point; Megann Spindler, Stevens Point; Jaime (Michael) Mountin, Plover; Jodi (Michael) Strong, Junction City; Jill Saddison (Dustin Lehman) , Madison; Jeremy Saddison, Milwaukee. Robert (Wanda Krause) Ambroziak, Junction City and son Jacob. Richard (Anne Czaikowski) , Wisconsin Rapids and their sons, Tyler and Ethan, Madison. Grandchildren: Jordan, Taylor and Bailey Kimbel of Minneapolis, MN. She is also survived by her sister Hattie (Joe) Domagola, Mosinee, WI

She was predeceased by her parents; daughter Barbara (Jeff) Kimbel; grandson, Zachary Ambroziak; and her brothers and their wives, Frank (Sophie) Lesniak and Stanley (Martha) Lesniak.

The family would like to thank the staff at Strawberry Lane and Ministry Hospice Care for their loving care and support.
