Helen E. Day

Helen E. Day, age 82, of 1408 Strongs Ave. died Saturday June 26, 1910 at the Stevens Point Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2PM on Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Steve Olson will officiate. Burial will be in the Forest cemetery. Friends may call at the church from Noon until the time of services on Thursday. The Shuda Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.

Helen was born on Sept. 1, l927 in Duluth, MN., the daughter of the late Alfred & Anna (Johnson) Klawitter. She married Robert Day Sept. 21, l965. He died on April 1, 1998. Helen worked as a Nurse's Aide at St Michael's Hospital and as manager for Whiting Hotel Apartments.

Helen is survived by one son Charles Prudhomme of Grand Rapids, MN--one daughter Mary (Robert) Carey of Cloquet, MN--six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Two brothers Calvin Klawitter of St Paul, MN and Eugene (Patricia) Klawitter of Champlin, MN

William E. Venzke

William "Bill" Venzke age 63 of Rudolph passed away Saturday evening June 26, 2010 at his home. Funeral services for Bill will be at 11: 00 AM Tuesday July 6, 2010 at the Shuda Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 9: 00 AM to the time of services at the funeral chapel. Full military services will follow the service at 11: 00.

Bill was born September 1, 1946 in Milan, WI. The son of Ernest and Mary (Rasmussen) Venzke. After graduating high school Bill entered the United States Marines April 3, 1966 in Milwaukee. He served his country as a Private earning the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal with two stars, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Navy Unit Citation, and the Good Conduct Medal. Bill was honorably discharged January 20, 1970 from San Diego, CA.

Shortly after leaving the military Bill moved to Merrill, WI and met Vicki Toschner, the couple married on September 14, 1973 in Madison. They moved to the Stevens Point area in 1974 where Bill worked for Cooper Motors. In 1981 Bill & Vicki moved to Scottsdale, AZ where both worked for Sentry Insurance, they moved back to the area in 1991 and Bill retired from Sentry in 2008. Bill was a proud Marine who loved to travel, spend time with his family & friends, boating, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed watching his wife Vicki cheer on the Packers, in hopes they would win so that he would get dinner that day.

He is survived by his wife Vicki; daughter Lea (fiance' Keith Drapes) Venzke; son Jason (Theresa) Venzke. Two grandchildren, Burgess and Sydney. His Mother Mary Peterson; sister Ruth McCurry and two brothers: Herman (Nancy) and Donald Venzke. He was preceded in death by his father and his brother Charles

Nicholas " Nick" Wasieleski Jr

Nicholas "Nick" Wasieleski Jr., 70, of Plover passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010, at Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital.

Nick was born April 25, 1940, in Kronenwetter, the son of Nicholas and Frances (Disher) Wasieleski. As a child, the family moved to Plover and Nick graduated from Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School in 1958. He served his country in the United States Army , entering Oct. 14, 1963, in Milwaukee. He earned marksmanship (rifle) and good conduct medals. After his honorable discharge on Oct. 13, 1965, he returned to the area and began his career working at various paper mills until his retirement in 1999.

Nick enjoyed Polish music and food, and liked to spend time with friends at the Plover VFW. He is survived by his sons, Lonnie (Jennifer) Wasieleski, Hawaii, and Kurt (Missy) Wasieleski, Hudson, and their three boys, Zack, Nicholas and Brett; and three brothers, Wallace and Irvin, both of Plover, and Ernie (Lorna) of Stevens Point. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lenny; and three sisters, Gladys, Dorothy and Leona.

Visitation for Nicholas will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 2010, at the Plover-Shuda Funeral Home. Military honors and burial will take place at a later time at St. Bronislava Catholic cemetery.

Thomas J. Schultz

Thomas J. Schultz, age 60, of 604 Greenbriar Ave. died Sunday June 27, 2010 at St Joseph Hospital in Marshfield following a tough five month battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 5PM on Thursday at the St Joseph Convent Chapel at 1300 Maria Drive in Stevens Point. The Rev. Thomas Lindner - Pastor of Newman University Parish will officiate. Friends may call at the church from 3: 30Pm until the services. The Shuda Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Following the services, family & friends will gather at the warming house at Iverson Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to SPASH Athletic Scholarship Fund or the Portage County Youth On Ice.

Thomas was born on January 2, l950 in Milwaukee, the son of the late Martin & Mary (Durkin) Schultz. He moved to Stevens Point with his parents and graduated from Pacelli High School in 1968. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1969 and served aboard the USS Long Beach in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1973.He then attended Hennipin Technical college in Brooklyn Park, MN, graduating in 1976. He worked for various dental offices for twenty years. For the past fifteen years, he has been a realtor in Stevens Point currently for Re-Max Realtors. He enjoyed the challenge of finding clients, the perfect home.

His lifelong passion was hockey. He enjoyed playing, watching and especially coaching his children and grandchildren. He was an avid fan of SPASH Hockey, PCYOI, and the UW Eau Claire Women's hockey team. As an empty nester, his passion turned to golfing with his family, fishing with his grandson, kayaking with his granddaughters and tryking with his wife.

Thomas married the love of his life, Kay Lindner on December 13, l975 in Loyal, WI. She survives along with two daughters Gretchen (Peter) Hintz of Stevens Point and Amanda Schultz of Eau Claire--one son Marty Schultz of Madison--Three grandchildren Colby-Kayla & Allison Hintz.. Three brothers Charles (Kay) of Atlanta--Dick (Vicki) of Stevens Point & Dan (Patty) of Madison--one sister Mary Ellen (Ryan) Bose of Odessa, Fl and many nieces and nephews.

His family would like to express their appreciation to St Clare's Hospital in Weston & St. Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point. The oncology departments in Weston and Stevens Point. Also a special thank you to family and friends for their ongoing support.

Beulah M. Harrer

Beulah "Bea" Harrer, age 83 of Park Ridge passed away unexpectedly June 28, 2010 at her home. A mass of christian burial for Bea will be at 11: 00 AM Friday July 2, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Dennis Stanchik will officiate. Burial will be in the Guardian Angel cemetery. Friends and relatives will gather to share memories from 9: 30 AM until the time of services at the church.

Bea was born October 22, 1926 in Newburg, WI the daughter of John and Theresa (Bahr) Redlinger. After attending West Bend High School she graduated from beauty school and began a career as a beautician in the Milwaukee area. She married George Harrer in Milwaukee in 1957. The couple moved to Park Ridge in 1960 where Bea worked at Jeans Beauty Bar for many years. She was the longtime children's crossing guard at the intersection of Hwy 10 and Sunset Ave., having just completed the school year this past June. She enjoyed knitting and donated many of her creations. She previously liked to bowl with her friends in league play and cooking at the former American Legion Post #6 clubhouse.

Bea is survived by her two brothers: Emil Redlinger, Milwaukee; James Redlinger, Newburg; one sister Norma Gildemeister, Eagle River. Her nine nieces and nephews: Gary and John Redlinger; Mike Gildemeister; Daniel, Edward, Jean, and Jane Frederick; Joan Ptacek; June Kosterman. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George in 1976, her step-mother Cecelia, her sister Lorraine, her brother Tom and nephew Robert.

Richard Kurtzweil

Richard Kurtzweil, 54, of 1000 Union St., died Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital.

Richard was born July 13, l955, in Edgar, the son of the late Norman and Betty Jane (Neumann) Kurtzweil. He worked at the Salvation Army Hope Center.

Richard is survived by his mother, Betty Jane, Horseshoe Bend, Ark.; daughter, Alexandra, Horseshoe Bend, Ark.; six brothers, Steven (Kathy) , Chaska, Minn., Terry (Mary) & Gregory (Karen) of Stevens Point, Timothy in Germany, Lawrence (Mary) in Hartford and Jerold (Michele) Inverness, Ill.; and one sister Sarah (Ken) Koput of Tuscon, Ariz.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2010, at the Salvation Army Hope Center at 1600 Briggs St. Friends may call at the Hope Center from 1: 30 p.m. until the service.

The Shuda Funeral Chapel assisted the family.

Kenneth C. Schwartz

Kenneth Clarence Schwartz, 73, of 1900 Lynda Lane, Stevens Point, died Friday, July 23, 2010, at home surrounded by his loving wife, Liz; daughter, Ruth; and son-in-law, Mike.

Ken was born Oct. 24, 1936, in the town of Meeme, son of the late Gilbert and Lorina (Wagner) Schwartz. After graduating from Kiel High School, Ken started working at Tecumseh in New Holstein. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 until being honorably discharged in 1962. He returned to work at Tecumseh until retiring in 1998.

On Dec. 16, 1985, he married Elizabeth S. Heckert Traficante, at their home in New Holstein. Ken was a faithful Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers fan. His hobbies included 3-D puzzles, bowling, hunting, horseshoes and fishing. He and his wife enjoyed tours by train to Seattle, Canada and California. They also toured Nova Scotia and the New England area by bus.

Survivors include his loving wife, Liz; stepdaughter, Ruth (Mike) Coulthurst; stepson, Joseph Traficante; sisters, Anna May Troullier of Manitowoc, Karen (Robert) Jeske of Sheboygan, Shirley Schwartz and Diane Schwartz of Newton; and brothers, James Schwartz, Wayne Schwartz, and Michael Schwartz, all of Newton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and great- nieces and great-nephews.

It was Ken's wish to be cremated. Plover-Shuda Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A private family internment will be at the family plot in St. Fidelis cemetery in Spring Valley. The family wishes to thank Ministry Hospice employees, Amber, Carol, Doris, Karen, and Phyllis. Also, Hospice volunteer, Lillian. A very special thanks to Ministry Hospice employee nurse, Nancy. Ken was a kind and loving person, who will be greatly missed by all and by granddog, Toto, too.

Thomas S. Hastings

Thomas S. Hastings, age 80, of 1800 Sherman Av died Wednesday July 21, 2010 at St Michael's Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Friday at St Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Alan Burkhardt will officiate. Burial will be in St Joseph cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10AM until the services. The Shuda Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.

Thomas was born on December 6, l929 in Phoenix, AZ, the son of the late Joseph & Frances (Erickson) Hastings. He worked in the Twin City area until his retirement.

Thomas is survived by two sisters--Kathleen (Raymond) Sommers of Custer & Mary Hastings-Brodel of Rochester, MN and one brother Patrick Hastings of St. Paul, MN

Timothy J. Corcoran

Timothy J. Corcoran age 35 of Stevens Point passed away Sunday July 18, 2010 at St. Michaels Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Private family services will be held. Timothy was born April 9, 1975 in Neenah, the son of William and Gloria (O'Neil) Corcoran. He graduated from UWSP with a communications degree and was presently working at Toppers Pizza. He married Clare Brooker June 26, 2003 in Stevens Point.

Timothy is survived by his wife; his parents; two brothers: Mike Corcoran, Oshkosh, and Pat Corcoran, Appleton.

Julia E. Pionkowski

Julia E. Pionkowski, age 94, of Stevens Point died Sunday July 18, 2010 at St Michael's Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Thursday at St Stanislaus Catholic Church. The Rev. George Thayilkuzhithottu will officiate. Burial will be in the Guardian Angel cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10AM until the services. The St Stanislaus Rosary Society of which Julia was a member will combine with the general rosary at 10: 15AM. The Shuda Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.

Julia was born on May 20, l916 in Polonia, the daughter of the late Joseph & Anne (Stoltz) Sikorski. She attended Sacred Heart Schools. She worked in Milwaukee until her marriage to Casmer Pionkowski on July 20, 1940 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They farmed in the Town of New Hope until 1945 when they moved to Polonia.They moved to Stevens Point in 1955. Casmer died on Dec. 13, l987

She enjoyed golfing, bowling, bingo, gardening, traveling and especially spending time with her family. Julia was a volunteer at St Michael's Hospital and at the Red Cross Bloodmobiles.

Julia is survived by her daughter Barbara (Lloyd) Wysocki of Plymouth, MN and their children JoAnn (Joel) Varner, Douglas Wysocki & Deborah (Patrick) Smith--son John (Sharon) Pionkowski of Stevens Point and their daughter Tenille (Brian) Nowak--daughter Connie (Bob) Kluck of Whiting and their children Gail (Bret) Saathoff, Scott (Karla) Kluck, Amy (Kurt) Ahrens & Nicole Kluck--Son Mark (Mary) Pionkowski of Stevens Point and their daughters Sara & Anne--son Christopher (Jody) Pionkowski of Eau Claire and their son Greg--Deceased daughter Vickie (Kevin) Hampton and their sons Brad (Kelly) Hampton & Blake Hampton---three great grandchildren Ashley & Cole Saathoff and Logan Kluck. She was preceded in death by six sisters and four brothers.

Julia's children would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Maple Ridge for the loving care given to their mother and to Dr. Sara and nurse Valerie at Ministry Health Care.

Leonard "Blackie" Olski

Leonard "Blackie" Olski, age 88 of 3236 Mary St. Stevens Point passed away Wednesday July 14, 2010 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Private family services will be held and burial with full military honors will be performed at Veterans Memorial cemetery in King.

Blackie was born January 27, 1922 in Stevens Point, the son of Thomas and Frances (Vase) Olski. He attended local schools and entered the United States Marines January 6, 1942. He was stationed with USMC Company K, Third Battalion, Sixth Marines. The Third Battalion was reassigned to the 2nd Marine Division in 1942, which participated in the following World War II campaigns: Guadalcanal, Southern Solomons, Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, Okinawa. Later they were relocated to Nagasaki, Japan: within weeks of the dropping of the atomic bomb on the city. He participated in the occupation of Japan in September of 1945 till his honorable discharge in 1946. He was decorated with the Asiatic-Pacific Star Campaign Ribbon; Presidential Unit Citation 1 Star; American Theatre Ribbon; Naval Unit Company; Japanese Occupational Ribbon. He married Marian Portwood, herself serving in the United States Navy, on January 27, 1945 in Corpus Christi, TX.

The couple moved to Stevens Point after his Marine tour was complete, and they owned and operated the Congress Club for 40 years before turning it over to his daughter Monica.

Blackie is survived by his two daughters: Barbara (David) Zagrzebski, Mosinee; Monica Neuberger, Stevens Point. Seven grandchildren: Derrick Zagrzebski, Mosinee; Dean (Angie) Zagrzebski, Stevens Point; Tina (Rick Higgins) Zagrzebski, Plover; Tracy (Kris) Marchel; Shane Neuberger, both of Stevens Point; Nicole and Shelly Neuberger of Custer. Six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 64 years Marian on April 20, 2009, and one infant son.

Marie G. Strong

Marie G. Strong age 84 of 340 Bukolt Ave in Stevens Point passed away Monday evening July 12, 2010 at St. Michaels Hospital.

Services for Marie will be at 10: 30 AM on Thursday July 15, 2010 at St. Peters Catholic Church. Rev. Kevin C. Louis, STL will officiate. Friends and relatives will gather to share memories from 9: 30 AM to the time of services Thursday at the St. Faustina Room of St. Peters Church. Burial will be at Guardian Angel cemetery.

Marie was born December 4, 1925 in Stevens Point, the daughter of John and Pearl (Mazur) Landowski. She attended St Peters grade school and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1946. She married Richard Strong on October 25, 1952 at St. Peters Catholic Church. Marie was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Peter Rosary Society and the Trucken and Buddies Club. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, reading, cooking, word search puzzles and loved spending time with family.

Marie is survived by her husband Richard: their daughter: Barb Strong, Stevens Point; her brother Alex (Clara) Landowski, Stevens Point; Her sister Roselie Volland, Sun City AZ. Nieces and nephews along with extended family: Annette, Mike, and Robert Mlodzikowski; Rebecca and Janusz Izdebski. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters: Annie and Alice and three brothers: John, Stanley and Anthony.

Daniel Horst

Daniel J. Horst, 58, of 5211 Manowski Court in Stevens Point, passed away after a lengthy illness July 8, 2010 at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Friends and family will gather to share memories of Daniel from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, at the Shuda Funeral Chapel in Stevens Point. A general rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Daniel was born January 18, 1952, in Chicago, the son of the late Edward and Maribelle (Litzinger) Horst. He moved with his family to the Stevens Point area in 1974. He served in the United States Marines, earning an honorable discharge. He worked at Vetters Manufacturing from 1976 to 1983, then later at Del Monte and Figis. He married Maureen Montgomery on Jan. 29, 1977, in Stevens Point.

Horst is survived by Maureen, their three children, Melanie (Scott) Stanczyk of Custer, Michael of Green Bay and Robert of Stevens Point; four brothers, Raymond (Dalia) of Las Vegas, Neil (Vicky) of Plover, Henry (Yasmine) of Los Indios, Texas, and William (Christine) of Stevens Point; a sister, Diana (Robert Vidal) of Hannibal, Mo.; and three grandchildren.
