He spent three years plus in service, 18 months in the S.W. Pacific, 5th Air Force. He was honorably discharged with rank of corporal from the Army
in December 1945. After his discharge, he became involved in the sprinkler irrigation business -- first in Sturgeon Bay, Waupaca and finally in Whiting. The business was known as Franke's Irrigation. Due to his early unfavorable political experience, he continued to remain interested in current events, but declined all future political positions, even appointments to committees. His interest in current events was shown by his numerous letters to The Open Letters Section of the Stevens Point Journal. His contribution to society was five acres of land to the City of Sturgeon Bay for a park that could be enjoyed by present and future generations. He was a member of The Christian Science Church of DAV.
