Lois F. Hodsdon

Lois F. Hodsdon age 80 of Stevens Point passed away peacefully Tuesday August 3, 2010 at her home. Funeral services for Lois will be held at 11: 00 AM Friday August 6, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Steven Olson will officiate. Visitation will be from 9: 30 AM to the time of services at the church. Shuda Funeral Service of Stevens Point and Plover are assisting the family. A memorial in lieu of flowers will be established.

Lois was born July 6, 1930 in Marshfield the daughter of Ignatius and Helene (Lenz) Brandl. She graduated from Marshfield High School in 1948. Lois married Roy Hodsdon November 1, 1952 in Marshfield. The couple later moved to Stevens Point and she worked at the Stevens Point H&R Block office as manager before her employment at Point Soo/ Point Plus Credit until her retirement in 1990 as assistant manager. Lois was a member of the American Legion Post #6 Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed golfing, bowling, going to the casino, and loved spending time with family and spending time at the cottage.

She is survived by her husband Roy and their five children: Dixie (Eldon) Brammer, Bedford, VA; Dave (Nancy), Marshfield; Doug (Sharon) , Mondovi; Dean (Doreen) and Dusty (Jackie) , both of Stevens Point. 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Two brothers: William (Carol) Brandl and Guy (Janice) Brandl, both of Marshfield. Two sisters: Eva Gratzek, West Allis and Jan Bremmer, WI Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Kenny and great grandson Tyler.

Raechel M. Bailey

Raechel Marie Bailey (nee Ewald), age 48 passed away August 2, 2010 in Stevens Point. She was born December 17, 1961 in Milwaukee, the daughter of Ronald F. (Ester) Ewald and Rosemarie T. Ewald (Szczepanski).

Loving wife and best friend to John F. Bailey. Beloved mother of Michelle L. Ewald (Carolynn Neumann) and Michael W. Kobow II. Loving grandmother to Lily Ann, Aden Michael and Kayla Lynn Kobow. preceded in death by grandparents, several aunts, uncles, and cousins. survived by many relatives and friends. Member of PLAV DuBay Chapter #181 and Polish Heritage Alliance of WI.

Will be sorely missed by companion "Bailey". Special thanks to the I.C.U. Staff at St. Michael's Hospital for their loving care during the past three weeks. Private family services will be held.

Donald L. Bellile

Donald L. Bellile age 72 passed away July 25, 2010 at St. Michaels Hospital. Arrangements are pending.

Delphine Handzel

Delphine J. Handzel, age 91, a former Stevens Point resident was born to eternal life on November 17 , 2010 in Brookfield, WI.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM on monday at St Stanislaus Catholic Church. The Rev. George Thayilkuzhithottu will officiate. Burial will be in the Guardian Angel cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10AM until the service. The Shuda Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.

She married Joseph Handzel on June 22, l946 in Milwaukee. He died Feb. 22, 2000.

She was the Loving mother of Carol (Bill) Schmitz and Barbara ( Peter) Schmall. Dear sister of Robert Jablonski, Bruno ( Cathy) Jablonski, Leona Gensler, Gazelle Wachowiak, Lydia Maher, Bertha Lewis. preceded in death by Brothers Ralph ( Marge) and Clement ( Evelyn) Jablonski. and Sister Connie ( Steve) Jankowski. Grandmother of William P.Schmitz ( Christine) and Great Grandchildren, Brandon, Amanda and Adam. Further survived by other dear relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers a donation to your local food pantry would be appreciated.

Martha "Marty" Bandow

Martha "Marty" Bandow, age 85 of 3641 Lorraine St died Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the Portage County Health Care Center, under the care of her family, the staff at PCHHC and Ministry Care Hospice of Stevens Point.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Friday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel in Stevens Point. Deacon Donald Borski will officiate. Burial will be in St Stephen's cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 9AM until the service.

Marty was born December 30, 1924 in Stevens Point, the daughter of the late Barney & Frances (Kitowski) Guzman. She attended local grade schools and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1942.

She married Harold Bandow on August 9, 1947 in Stevens Point. After their marriage the couple settled in Stevens Point. Her husband of 63 years, Harold, survives. Marty started her career at Hardware Mutuals and continued at Sentry Insurance for 42 years. She loved playing bingo and going to church activities. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing bridge. Most of all, Marty enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors besides her husband, Harold, are her son Bruce (Cathy) of Plover and two grandchildren, Shelly (Steve) Fisher of Dousman and Blair (Jenny) Bandow of Green Bay and four great grandchildren, Grace and Isabelle Fisher and Drew and Reese Bandow. She is further survived by one brother, Richard (Zelda) Guzman of Wisconsin Rapids, her brother-in-law George Schmitz of Chest Hill, Illinois and sister-in-law Mildred Guzman of Stevens Point along with nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Schmitz and a brother, Emil Guzman.

Dominic Wisniewski

Dominic C. Wisniewski, age 86, formerly of 3205 Cherry St. in Plover passed away Tuesday morning November 16, 2010 at Riverview Lodge in Whiting where he and his wife Mary have resided the past couple of months.

A mass of Christian burial for Dominic will be held at 10: 30 AM Friday at St. Bronislava Catholic Church. Rev. Greg Bohren will officiate. Visitation will be from 9: 30 AM Friday until the time of services at the church. Burial with full military honors will be at the parish cemetery. Dominic was born July 4, 1924 in Plover, the son of Nicholas and Agnes (Dobrosiewicz) Wisniewski. After graduation from P.J. Jacobs High School, he moved to Milwaukee and soon entered the United States Army . After his honorable discharge he returned to Milwaukee and worked as a machinist at General Electric Medical Systems for 37 years. He married Mary Gorecki on October 21, 1950 at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Milwaukee, they recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Don enjoyed fishing for muskies up north with his brother Len. He was the family's "Mr. Fix It" and was a talented woodworker. Don was proud to be be there for his children's fixing and remodeling projects. He also enjoyed gardening and raising fruits and vegetables. He was an avid Packer Fan and enjoyed attending his granddaughter's soccer and basketball games.

Survivors include his wife Mary; their children: Marilyn (Joel) Andelman, Waupaca; Ron (Cristi) Wisniewski, Pewaukee; son-in-law Bruce Wendorf, Onalaska. Grandchildren: Jeff Wendorf, Kelly Wendorf, Shannen Wisniewski, Lindsay Wisniewski. Two sisters: Clara Frohna and Irene Gibeault. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Susan Wendorf, and many brothers and sisters. The family wishes to thank all the Caregivers at Riverview Lodge, St. Michaels Hospital Staff, and William Benn MD along with his Staff at Aspirus Stevens Point Clinic.

Ella Marie (Zelenik) Zabor

Ella Marie (Zelenik) Zabor, 96, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2010 at the home of her daughter, Cathy (Peter) Sanderson, in Plover, Wisconsin. Ella was born August 10, 1914 in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Her parents, Slovenian immigrants, were John and Johanna (Vaupotic) Zelenik. The family later moved to the U.S. and initially settled in North Chicago, Illinois. Ella was one of four children.

Ella graduated from Waukegan Township High School. Following graduation she worked at Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago, Illinois in the allergy lab for over 15 years. She was also a member of the Abbott Bowling League.

Ella married Alphonse F. Zabor on July 28, 1951 at Mother of God Catholic Church in Waukegan. After marriage, Ella gave up working outside the home to raise her family. She was a wonderful and devoted full-time wife, mother and homemaker. She had 2 daughters. Ella and Al were married for 58 years, until his passing in March of 2010.

Ella was an active member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church and volunteered in the church Soup Kitchen. She was a long-time volunteer at St. Therese Hospital in Waukegan and in 2002 she was honored with the 3, 500 Hour Award. She continued to volunteer at the hospital until she reached the age of 90. She belonged to the Slovene National Benefit Society, Lodge 584, and received commendation from the Lodge in 2009 for 70 years of membership. In her younger years, she enjoyed singing with a group at the Slovenic Hall in Waukegan. Later in life, she participated in numerous activities with the St. Bart’s Senior Club, Waukegan Park Place Seniors, and Waukegan North Chicago Senior Club.

Ella was a kind, generous, compassionate person. She always had a smile on her face and loved to help others. She gave freely of her time and would willingly share anything she had. Spending time with her family, children, and grandchildren was her passion. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo, and occasionally going on senior trips to the casinos to play the slot machines. She always loved having flowers around the house. She was a lovely, delightful, caring person and will be dearly missed.

Ella is survived by her daughters, Connie (Greg) Hohner of Libertyville, Illinois and Cathy (Peter) Sanderson of Plover, WI; five grandchildren, Alex Hohner, Michael Hohner, Dave Sanderson, Christine Sanderson, Laura (Jack) Tillman and sister, Julie (Quint) Guerin. She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband Al, and brothers, John Zelenik and William Zelenik. Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 17 from 4: 00 until 5: 30 at Bradley Funeral Home, 313 Tenth Street in North Chicago. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10: 00a.m. Thursday, November 18 at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, 624 Douglas Ave., Waukegan, Illinois. The Rev. Aloysius Funtila will officiate. Interment will follow at Ascension cemetery in Libertyville. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to The Alphonse and Ella Zabor St. Anastasia Soup Kitchen Memorial Fund.

Rose Schrader

Rose Schrader age 96 formerly of the Town of Alban, passed away Tuesday morning November 9, 2010 in Milwaukee.

A mass of Christian Burial for Rose will be at 10: 00 AM on Saturday November 13, 2010 at St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Rev. Marcin Mankowski will officiate. Burial will be at the parish cemetery. Friends and family will gather to share memories from 9: 00 AM until the time of services Saturday at the church. The Shuda Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.

Rose was born September 1, 1914 in the Town of Alban, the daughter of John and Mary (Ksionsk) Kaminski. She married Raymond F. Schrader on October 23, 1937 at St Adlabert Catholic Church. The couple lived in Milwaukee until 1952, when they moved to the town of Alban and owned and operated a dairy farm. They later were custodians for Trinity Lutheran Church in Stevens Point. After their retirement, they moved to Whiting, where Rose enjoyed gardening.

She is survived by three sons: Robert (Jean) Schrader, Kewaskum; Raymond Jr. (Melissa) Schrader, Naples, FL; Ronald (Elaine) Schrader, New Berlin. Two daughters: Rose Mary (Richard) Miller, Sequim, WA; Rita (Joe) Nedbal, West Allis. 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Two brothers: Hubert Kaminski, Stevens Point; Raymond Kaminski, Sturgeon Bay; One sister Teresa Hullin, Stevens Point. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray on August 22, 1999; her brothers: Edward, Barney, John, Henry, Steve, and Edwin. Two sisters: Sophie Elclepp and Clara Ulick.

Robert J. Kujawa

Robert J. Kujawa, age 87, of 488 W. River Dr died Tuesday November 9, 2010 at the Portage County Health Care Center where he has resided for the past four months.

Funeral services will be held at 10: 30AM on Monday at St Stephen Catholic Church. The Rev. John Potaczek will officiate. Burial will be in the Guardian Angel cemetery. Friends may call at the Shuda Funeral Chapel from 4-8PM on Sunday and again from 9: 30 AM to 10: 15 AM on Monday. The Polish Legion of American Veteran's will have a ritual at 6: 30 Sunday evening and the Knights of Columbus will combine with the general rosary at 7PM both at the funeral chapel. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #6 and the Bill Cook Chapter of the Isaac Walton League.

Robert was born on October 11, l923 in Stevens Point, the son of the late John & Stella (Knajdek) Kujawa. He graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School where he played football and basketball. He entered the U.S. Navy on January 20, 1943 in Milwaukee. He served with the Patrol Bombing Squad #114 as a radio man 2/c. He earned the American Area Medal, the WWII Victory Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Medal. He was honorably discharged at Great Lakes, IL on February 10, l946. After returning home he worked with the Consolidated construction crew from 1946 until 1955 when he joined Consolidated Papers, Stevens Point Division. He retired as a millwright in 1984.

Bob is now resting peacefully while fishing on Spider Lake near his cottage in Iron Lake, WI. He was a very gifted woodworker and enjoyed hunting and golfing. He was an avid Packer and Brewer fan.

Bob married Delores "Pat" Beaver on November 5, 1949 in Loyal, WI. She died on December 24, 1980. He is survived by one daughter Sandy (Wiernik) Kory Braatz and one grandson Baylor John Braatz. One nephew Robert Wortham and one niece Sandra Smeeding. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Tina--Four sisters--Betty, Margaret, Loretta and Marcella and his special friend Elaine Kinney.

Bob's family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff at PCHCC for the care given to him the past four months.

Jesus 'Jesse' Juarez

Jesus "Jesse" Juarez, 23, of Amherst, passed away Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, as a result of an automobile accident.

A celebration of life service for Jesse will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Plover-Shuda Family Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial, in lieu of flowers, will be established in Jesse's name. Jesse was born April 1, 1987, in Brownsville, Texas, the son of Yvonne Pena. At the age of 10, Jesse moved with his family to Wisconsin. He was a S.P.A.S.H. graduate. Jesse loved music and was currently training for M.M.A.

He is survived by his two daughters, Ayriani-Yvonne Juarez and Ava Anastasia Juarez; his mother, Yvonne (Jason) Stanke, Amherst; four brothers and sisters, Noe Garcia, Chicago, Kimberly Rico, Acoya Stanke, Shaun Stanke, all of Amherst; and maternal grandparents, Alberto and Rosalinda Juarez, Brownsville, Texas.

Florence Smith

Florence Smith, 88, a former Stevens Point resident, passed away Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, in Roseville, Calif., where she has resided for the past 30 years, from lung cancer.

Florence was born July 20, 1922, in Stevens Point, the daughter of the late Anton and Stella (Lewandowski) Slowinski. She was one of 16 children who were raised on the family farm. Friends will remember "Flo" as an avid bowler. She loved to entertain and play card games all night long. She especially liked to play tricks on her close friends and family.

Family will remember her as a devoted wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister and aunt. She always tended to the needs of her family and those she loved, and loved playing with her beloved great-grandson, "Punkie." She enjoyed gardening, dancing to polka music, and to laugh. She is survived by two sons, Kim Brian Smith, Grass Valley, Calif., and Dale R. (Patti) Smith, Novato, Calif.; two daughters, Sheila (Steve) Acquaviva, Tuolumne, Calif., and Leslie (John) Stafford, Aumsville, Ore.; 16 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Roman (Sophie) Slowinski, Stevens Point; one sister, Dorothy Ruschmann, Grand Rapids, Mich.; 34 nieces and nephews.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Calvin L. Smith, who passed away in 2006; seven brothers, Benidict, Leo, John, Aloise, Steve, Alex and Alfred; and six sisters, Frances, Martie Eppers, Terry Mansavage, Angie Loftis, Cecelia Lindstrom and Sophie O'Leary. Funeral service for Florence will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, at the Price Funeral Chapel in Citrus Heights, Calif. Burial will be Monday, Nov. 1, in the Calvary Catholic cemetery.

Florence will be missed by all those who knew her. She was an exceptional woman

Cecelia Kulas

Cecelia F. Kulas, 99, Rosholt, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at the Portage County Health Care Center.

Survivors include one son, Anthony Kulas, Rosholt; and one sister, Agnes Knitter of Rosholt. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Adalbert Catholic Church, Rosholt. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

David L. Ross

David L. Ross, 20, of Plover, passed away Friday evening, Oct. 29, 2010, at Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital.

David fought a courageous three-year battle with sarcoma cancer. A memorial in lieu of flowers will be established in David's name for research to find a cure for this terrible form of cancer. A Celebration of Life service for David will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at the Shuda Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 2400 Plover Road (HWY B) , in Plover. Friends and family will gather to share memories from 4 p.m. Tuesday until the time of services at the funeral home. David was born March 3, 1990, in Fullerton, Calif. He moved to Plover three years ago, after graduating from high school.

David loved to skateboard, was an avid marksman, and was very fond of owls. He is survived by his mother, Linda Jean Carlson, and his brother Steve Candelaria, both of California, and his Plover family: Jess, Shari, Ben and Sam Denenberg.

Violet G. Keats

Violet G. Keats, of Stevens Point, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, at home.

A private service will be held for family members. Memorials in her name may be made to the American Heart Association, Operation Bootstrap-Stevens Point or other organizations dispensing help and comfort to others.

Mrs. Keats was born in Milwaukee to Theresa Weis Mueller and Louis P. Mueller. She attended public schools, and graduated from Washington High School and Milwaukee State Teachers College. During her teaching career, she taught in the Milwaukee Public Schools, Milwaukee County Schools, Madison and Stevens Point. In 1974, Mrs. Keats received an advanced degree in reading from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She did post-graduate work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and other colleges during her 15-year tenure as the Reading/Language Arts Coordinator for the Stevens Point Public Schools. After her retirement, Mrs. Keats worked for a few years with UWSP student-interns employed in the school district.

Mrs. Keats was a member of reading organizations at the local, state, national and international levels, and served in various offices at the state and local levels. She remained an advocate in promoting reading with and for children during her lifetime.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Norman, and with family, and took pleasure in the countless trips throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and abroad to England, Spain and Germany. She was an avid reader, a member of the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra Guild and appreciated all of the concerts over the years, played and enjoyed golf for many years, enjoyed playing bridge, and took enormous pride and pleasure in her grandchildren, supporting them and their activities always.

Survivors include her husband, Norman; two sons, Brian (Linda) and Paul (Margret) ; and five very different and wonderful grandchildren, Emily, Andrew, Ian, Neil and Jennifer. She also leaves behind her sister, Ruth Gruber; her nephew, Tom (Sharon) Gruber, and his offspring, Monica and Nathan; a brother-in-law, Warren (Lois) Keats, and their son, Geoffery (Jenny) Keats. Her parents, Louis and Theresa; her mother-in-law, Martha; her father-in-law, George; and her dear brother-in-law, Robert Gruber, preceded her in death.

Wang Chue Khang

Wang Chue Khang age 66 of Wisconsin Rapids died September 11, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield. Services for Mr. Khang will be held Saturday and Sunday September 18 & 19 from 9: 00 AM - 10: 00 PM at the Plover Funeral Home.

He leaves behind his wife May Yang Khang; his sons: Pao Ge Khang, John Lee Khang, Ger Khang, Vang Khang, and Vong Khang. His daughters: Mao Khang, Sue Khang, Kao Zer Khang, Mary Khang, and Elizabeth Khang. 19 grandchildren and many friends and family.

He will be missed by the lives of those he touched.
