James L. White

James L. White, age 81, of 418 N. Wilshire Blvd in Stevens Point passed away Wednesday September 22, 2010 at the Portage County Health Care Center, where he had resided the past two weeks.

Jim was born on March 7, 1929 in McLeansboro, IL, to Clyde James and Ruby Mae (Faulkner) White. After his schooling, Jim entered the US Naval Training Station at Great Lakes in 1946. He served his country aboard the USS Paricutin as Seaman First Class, in the Marshall Islands at NAS Kwajalein earning The Victory Medal. He was Honorably Discharged in 1948 at the USN Air Station in Alameda, CA. He married the love of his life, Shirley Harre at Sandwich, IL in Feb 1950. They were able to enjoy 60 years of wedded bliss.

His early career started in the oil fields of southern Illinois. He then began working for American Natural Resources Pipeline Company, in 1950. The couple moved to Stevens Point, in 1960. After 40 years with ANR, he retired as District Superintendent in 1990. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at their lake home any time of the year. He also enjoyed playing pool, cards, camping, cavorting with his grandsons and walks and talking with his buddy “Bear”. Among his other activities he was a member of the American Legion, Elks and Masonic Lodge.

Jim is survived by his wife Shirley, and their son James (Michele), grandsons Joshua and Jason (Tanya) , and great-grandchildren Kylee, Ayden, and Ayric, all of Stevens Point, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Gene.

A memorial service will be held at Shuda Funeral Chapel on Thursday September 30, 2010. visitation will be at 10: 00 am with service at 11: 00. Inurnment will be in the Hutson cemetery, in McLeansboro at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ministry Home Care- Hospice Services.

David A. Gaetz

David A. Gaetz, age 69, a Village of Plover resident died Friday October 1, 2010 at St Michael's Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Wednesday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel. David Fletcher will conduct the service. Burial will be in the St Bartholemew cemetery in Mill Creek. Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 10AM until the service.

David was born on July 19, 1941 in Stevens Point, the son of the late Anthony & Agnes (Berna) Gaetz. He graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School where he was a State Wrestling Champion. He then served in the Marine Corp, after which he returned to Stevens Point. He married Margaret Marquard on May 23, l964 at St Bartholemew Catholic Church. He worked at Whiting-Plover Paper Mill for 36 years until retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, horseshoes and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Margaret--one son Jeffery (Michele) Gaetz of Jct. City and one daughter Jackie (Robert) Golla of Stevens Point. Five grandchildren--Natania--Samantha--Luke--Josie & Whitney. Four brothers Robert (Mary) of Green Bay, James (Sandra) Alan (Elizabeth) & Tony (Kathy) all of Stevens Point. One sister Karen (Joseph) Pacocha of Custer. He was preceded in death by one brother Gene

Fay C. Jakusz

Fay C. Jakusz, 80, Stevens Point, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, under the care of her family and Ministry Home Care Hospice at her home. Fay was born Aug. 9, 1930, in Milwaukee, the daughter of the late Rhoda and Mary (Shomberg) Sorenson. She moved to Stevens Point as a child with her family. She graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1948.

She worked at Hardware Mutual until her marriage to Victor Jakusz on May 20, 1950, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church. Vic died Oct. 29, 1991.

As her children grew, Fay worked for JC Penney, Emmons and, later in life, the Portage County Public Library for many years. She was a hospice volunteer for several years after Victor died, and recently sang in St. Stephen's Choir until becoming ill.

She enjoyed knitting mittens for her children and grandchildren, needlepoint, and for a number of years painting pictures for personal satisfaction. She was an avid bridge player, reader and golfer. She enjoyed parish activities and the occasional trip to the casino with her daughter, Janet. She enjoyed Big Band music and singing in the choir as she always had a song to share. Besides golfing, she loved to walk and was a daily exerciser.

Fay is survived by four daughters, Cynthia (Gary) Rutkowski of St. Albans, Vt., Christina Jakusz and Janet Jakusz, both of Stevens Point, and Vici (Jason) Nafe of Plover; one son, Rhody (Sharon) Jakusz of Stevens Point; six grandchildren Thaddeus, Nathan, Noah, Jonathon, Erin and Ryan; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rhode Sorenson, Stevens Point, and Eugene (Butch) Sorenson, Rural, Wis.; and four sisters, Ione (Dave) Hetzer, Stevens Point, Rosemary Sorenson, Madison, Benita (Floyd) Flora, Wausau, and Annette Sorenson, Houston.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Stevens Point. The Rev. John Potaczek will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the service Thursday at the church. The Shuda Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Ministry Home Care Hospice, Operation Bootstrap and Special Olympics.

John J. Ryan

John J. "Jack" Ryan, age 83 of Stevens Point passed away October 2, 2010 at the Portage County Health Care Center, where he has resided the past seven years.

A Bible Vigil for Jack will be prayed at 11: 30 AM on Thursday October 7, 2010 at the Shuda Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 10: 00 AM until the time of services at the funeral chapel. Visitation will also take place on Saturday from 10: 00 until Noon at the Proko Funeral Home in Kenosha. Burial will be at the All Saints cemetery in Kenosha.

Jack was born March 19, 1927 in Chippewa Falls, the son of Alice Fredrick and James Ryan. After completing school Jack entered the United States Army on May 10, 1943 He earned the meritorious unit award, victory medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, and the Army occupation medal-Japan. He was honorably discharged on December 12, 1946. He moved to Kenosha and began his career at AMC where he worked as a mechanic until his retirement in 1998. Jack married Joan Wunsch on July 7, 1951 in Kenosha. The couple moved to Wisconsin Dells after Jack's retirement and moved to Stevens Point in 1997. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing the harmonica and concertina. Jack was also an avid Packers fan.

He is survived by his son: Timothy John Ryan, Colorado Springs, CO, daughter Faith Marie Ryan of Stevens Point and granddaughters, Crystal (Scott) Marz, Lehi, Utah and Alison Ryan-Ramsaier, Camarillo, California and great grandchildren, Deleyni and Kaiden Marz and Wyatt Ross. Further survived by his brother Edward (Florence) Ryan of Cadott, WI and Gladys (Frank) Varva of Chippewa Falls, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joan in October 2009 and their two sons: Gary Gene (Jeanie) and John Joseph Jr. Also preceded in death by his brothers, Lawrence (Mae) Ryan, Howard (Irene) Ryan, and Marshall Ryan and his sister, Evelyn (Albert) Lafave.

Jack's family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of the PCHCC for the wonderful care he received.

Timothy G. Keeffer

Timothy G. Keeffer age 52 of Plover passed away Wednesday October 6, 2010 at St. Michaels Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Per family wishes, there will be no public services at this time. Plover -Shuda Family Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family.

Timothy was born January 6, 1958 in Freeport, IL the son of Gale and Kathryne (Mantzke) Keeffer. In 1981 Timothy married Mary Lou Matual in Lasalle Il. He was a Bio-Medical Engineer for Beckman-Coulter.

Timothy is survived by his wife Mary Lou of Plover; their two daughters: Allison Keeffer, Madison and Christine Keeffer, Plover. His Mother Kathryne Keeffer-Warthen , Lena, IL. His brother John (Jeannette) Keeffer, Lena, IL.

Emiline G. Berna

Emiline G. Berna, age 91 died October 11, 2010 at the Crystal River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Waupaca where she has resided for two years.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Friday at St Stanislaus Catholic Church. The Rev. George Thayilkuzhithottu will officiate. Burial will be in the Guardian Angel cemetery. Friends may call at the Shuda Funeral Chapel, Stevens Point, from 4-8PM on Thursday and at the church from 10AM until the service on Friday. The D.A.V. Auxillary unit 55 will have a ritual at 6: 30PM on Thursday. The St Stanislaus Rosary Society of which she was a 50 year member will combine with the general rosary at 7PM.

Emiline was born on October 11, 1919 in Stevens Point, the daughter of the late Frank & Victoria (Radecke) Ceplina. She graduated from Emerson High School. She married Dominic Berna on June 6, l942 at St Stanislaus Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and sang on the choir at St Stanislaus. She was also a member of the VFW & DAV Auxillaries.

Emiline is survived by her son Robert (Janet Klopotek) Berna of Stevens Point. Two grandchildren Richard (Sara) Berna and Debbie Berna, both of Stevens Point and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Dominic on December 23, 2003, and one brother and one sister.

Victor E. Zick

Victor E. Zick, age 83, a Town of Linwood resident died Saturday Oct. 16, 2010 at St Joseph Hospital in Marshfield surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Wednesday at St Stephen Catholic Church. The Rev. John Potaczek will officiate. Friends may call from 10AM until the service at the church. The Shuda Funeral Chapel is assisting the family..

Victor was born on August 6, l927 in Stevens Point, the son of the late Edward & Helen (Hoppa) Zick. He graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School, and then served in the U.S. Navy during World war II. After returning from service, he worked at Consolidated Paper Mill in Biron for 42 years and also ran his farm in Linwood. Vic had a very high work ethic and he enjoyed trout fishing and cutting wood..

He married Jeanette Hintz on June 7, l949 at St Stanislaus Catholic Church. She survives along with four daughters-Janice (Fred) Hytry--Mary (Rich Firkus) Zick--Susan Kurszewski all of Stevens Point and Barbara (Denis) Kester of Wisconsin Rapids. Three sons John (Linda) --Paul (Rochelle Turner) and Leon (Charlene) all of Stevens Point. Sixteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. and one sister Leone (Leon) Hintz of Stevens Point and his special friend, his dog, Rambo. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law Mike Kurszewski

Michael J. Gutsch

Michael J. Gutsch, 64, Iola, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point.

Michael worked for NCR Corp. until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Mary (Elliott) Gutsch, Iola; three sons, John (Sue) of Wausau, David (Lisa) of Wisconsin Rapids and Ryan (Cindy) of Turtle Lake; two stepdaughters, Jennifer (Matt) Hanselman of Boston and Jessica Derezinski of Milwaukee; one sister, Karen (David) Longmire of Rice Lake; and two brothers, Randy (Cindy) and Wayne (Patti) , both of Hayward.

Services will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel, Stevens Point. Visitation will be from 4: 30 p.m. until the service Thursday at the funeral chapel.

Sophie Kearns

Sophie F. Keams, 95, of Rosholt, died at home Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, under the care of her loving family and Ministry Home Care Hospice Services.

The family will be having a private "Celebration of Life." No funeral or memorial will be held. Sophie has arranged to donate her body to the Anatomy department of the University of Wisconsin-Madison for scientific research.

Sophie was born Nov. 12, 1914, in McKinley, Minn., to Joseph and Frances Mesojedec. She attended local schools and college in Minnesota. She married John Kearns on Oct. 24, 1936.

During the last 74 years, Sophie lived in 11 different states, ending in Wisconsin, where she was the business manager of various family businesses. Also, she took pride in being a woman floor supervisor at Globe Union, in Milwaukee, during the war years. Owning and operating a 6-forty farm was her final career venture. Throughout her life, she always had a positive outlook on life, held progressive beliefs, maintained a healthy lifestyle, had a creative mind, and was a leader in the world of green-she reused everything in her arts and crafts.

Her three children, Sandy (Bob) Dzikoski, Bev (Mike) Kearns, and Bob (Rose) Kearns will always appreciate her braided rugs, rag rugs, quilts, comforters, artwork pieces, purses, scarves, and fur animals that were made for each individual. She designed and sewed all her clothes, hats, and coats. She also made her daughters' wedding dresses, plus numerous outfits for them throughout their lives.

Her legacy will continue through her seven grandchildren, Kim and Ryan, Trent and Brett, Nicole, Shelly, and Eric; and her two great-grandchildren, Lily and Callie, daughters of Kim Dzikoski (Brian) Spanos.

The family of Sophie Kearns would like to extend a special "thank you" to the Ministry Home Care Hospice Services, especially the nurses, CNAs, and social worker that became so closely involved with our mother.

Rodney A. Hopp

Rodney A. Hopp age 84, of Stevens Point passed away Monday October 25, 2010.

Funeral services for Rodney will be at 10: 30 AM Wednesday October 27, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Al Burkhardt will officiate. Friends and family will gather to share memories from 9: 00 AM Wednesday until the time of services at the church. Burial will be at Guardian Angel cemetery.

Rodney was born February 6, 1926 in Chile, WI the son of Ambrose and Anna (Folz) Hopp. As a child they moved to Stevens Point where Rodney attended local schools and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1944. Rodney entered the United States Army on June 27, 1944 at Ft. Sheridan, IL. He served his country as a Tec 4 in Ardennes - Rhineland and in Central Europe. During his service to his country Rodney earned the Victory Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with 3 bronze stars, two overseas bars and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on June 1, 1946 from Ft. Sheridan. He returned to the area and began his career with Wisconsin Telephone. He married Agnes Zelewski on June 14, 1947 at St. Peters Catholic Church. The couple lived in Janesville and Beloit, before settling in Stevens Point in 1952. Rodney retired in 1980 from the WI phone Company. The couple enjoyed wintering in Port Orange, FL for many years, and they both enjoyed traveling and camping. Rodney volunteered for many years for the Special Olympics. He also developed a peeping ball for the blind children at the Rosholt Lions Camp so they could play baseball. He enjoyed tinkering and fixing things, including fixing the talking books used at the Lions Camp in Rosholt. Rodney ushered at St Joseph's Church for many years, and also belonged to the Noon Lions Club, the Wisconsin Pioneers Club, St. Joseph Holy Name, Stevens Point Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion Post #6.

He is survived by his four children: Thomas (Lark) Hopp, Stevens Point; Gerald (Donna) Hopp, Plover; Mary Kay (John) Schelke, Melbourne, FL; Carol (Raymond) Zurawski, Plover. Nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Agnes in 2002, two brothers, four sisters, and one granddaughter.

Marjorie Jonas

Marjorie D. Jonas, age 93 of Stevens Point died Saturday September 11, 2010 at St Michael's Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Wednesday at St Stephen Catholic Church. The Rev. John Potaczek will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10AM until the service. The Shuda Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.

Marjorie was born on Oct. 16, l916 in Waupaca, the daughter of the late John & Ella (Steinmetz) Suhs. She graduated from Waupaca High School. Marjorie married Francis Jonas on Sept. 4, l937 at St Patrick Catholic Church in Lanark. After raising her children, she worked at Sentry Insurance until her retirement in 1994.

She is survived by three daughters--Patricia (LeRoy) Mansavage, Jamestown, ND Marjorie (Chester) Jakusz of Stevens Point & Kathleen (Alan) Tepp of Rothschild--one son Frank (Jane) Jonas of Ft. Collins, CO--22 grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. One brother Clayton Suhs of Waupaca. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1992, two brothers and one sister.

June M. Page

June M. Page, age 67, of Stevens Point passed away peacefully Saturday Sept. 11, 2010 at her home surrounded by her family and under the care of Ministry Home Hospice, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 6: 00 PM on Wednesday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel in Stevens Point. Dwaine Habrat, Pastoral Minister of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church will officiate. Visitation will be from 4: 00 PM to the time of services Wednesday at the funeral chapel. A memorial in lieu of flowers will be established to the Portage County Humane Society.

June was born June 20, 1943 in Stevens Point, the daughter of Alvin and Florence "Irene" (Eder) Wiedenhoeft. She graduated from Maria High School in 1961 and earned her nursing degree from St Joseph Nursing Program in Marshfield. She served as the head nurse of the surgical floor at St. Michaels for 20 years. She established the "Outreach for Recovery" Program at St. Michaels. June married Phil Page in 1966 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stevens Point, they later divorced. In 1987 she moved to Las Vegas, NV and worked as a nurse at Humana Hospitals until her retirement in 2006. She met her "significant other" Doug Kimberling in Las Vegas. The couple moved to Stevens Point in June of 2009. June enjoyed going to casino's, dancing, her cats Bonnie & Clyde, and spending time with the special people in her life.

June is survived by her son: Brian Page, Stevens Point; her mother: Florence "Irene" Wiedenhoeft, Stevens Point, her brother Robert Wiedenhoeft, Sturgeon Bay; and Doug Kimberling, Stevens Point. Three grandchildren: Nicholas, Alex, and Isabella. She was preceded in death by her father.

Charles L. Yaeger

Charles L. Yaeger, 81, 2816 Indiana Ave., died Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital, Stevens Point.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After the service, he worked for Chrysler Motors, Kenosha, until his retirement in 1994.

Survivors include one brother, Thomas Yaeger, Eau Claire. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Stephen Catholic Church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the church. Shuda Funeral Chapel, Stevens Point, is assisting the family.
