Kathryn M. Podoll

Kathryn M. Podoll, age 58 of Plover passed away December 25, 2010. A celebration of life service for Kathryn will be held at 11: 00 AM on Wednesday January 5, 2011 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church on Maple Drive in Plover. Rev David E. Ficken will officiate. Visitation will be from 4: 00 - 7: 00 PM on Tuesday at the Shuda - Plover Funeral Home in Plover. There is no visitation prior to the church service on Wednesday.

Kathryn was born September 6, 1952 in Appleton, the daughter of William & Mary Jane (Boldt) Podoll. She moved to Stevens Point in June of 1958. She graduated Almond High School in 1970. She was a Co-owner and operator of Bill’s Pizza Inc. from 1977 to 1985. Her work experience included being a short order cook at ASA (9 years) ; warehouse worker, forklift operator, shipping/receiving, supervisor at Banta (8 years) . Her interests included volunteering at American Red Cross since 2002. She served many communities around the country that were affected by disasters as a Mass Care Supervisor on the Local Disaster Action Team for The American Red Cross. She was a driver for Meals on Wheels since 2007 (taking dogs Peanut and Buddy with her) . Other interests included outdoor winter activities like snowmobiling and campfires.

Survivors include sister Susan R (Jann) Van Dreser (Podoll); Nephew Michael Van Dreser; Niece Ashley (Chris) Lang; Great Nieces Kiersten Van Dreser and Molly Van Dreser. There are also many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins in the Fox Valley area. She is preceded in death by her parents and Ronald. G. Kluck.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to The American Red Cross-Portage County Chapter and Portage County Humane Society.

Louis Rucinski

Louis Rucinski age 70 of Stevens Point passed away Saturday evening December 25, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11: 00 a.m. on Friday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with Rev. George Thayilkuzhithottu MSFS officiating. Burial will follow in Guardian Angel cemetery. Visitation will be from 4: 00 to 8: 00 p.m. Thursday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel in Stevens Point. A general rosary will be prayed at 7: 00 p.m. Visitation will also take place from 9: 30 AM to 10: 45 a.m. on Friday at the church.

Louie was born October 16, 1940 in the town of Gunther in Marathon County, the son of Joseph and Anna (Gburek) Rucinski Sr. He graduated from Mosinee High School in 1958 and moved to Kenosha where he worked at American Motors for a few years before returning to the area. He was a union carpenter for 19 years and also farmed for 26 years before retirement in 2006. He married Carol Jacobson on April 27, 1963 at St. Stanislaus. Louie enjoyed gardening, hunting, ice fishing, mushroom picking, but most of all loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter Ellie. He enjoyed watching the Packers and old-time T.V. shows late at night.

Louie is survived by his wife Carol; their five children: Ginny (Matt) Stockinger, Wauwatosa; David (Sharon) Rucinski, Stevens Point; Paul (Diane) Rucinski, Stevens Point; Cindy Wisinski, Stevens Point; Debby (Dan) Dascalu, Waukesha. 16 grandchildren: Amanda (Kyle) Kadell, Ashley Wisinski, Katelyn Wisinski, Brandon Wisinski, Stephen Stockinger, Jessica Stockinger, Kevin Stockinger, Kyle Rucinski, Christopher Rucinski, Brittany Rucinski, Nathan Rucinski, Matthew Rucinski, Bryanna Rucinski, Dominic Dascalu. Great grand daughter: Ellie Kadell. His brothers and sisters: John (Anna) Rucinski Sr; Elizabeth (Carl) Pawelski, Gertie (Alfred) Buelow; Edward Rucinski, Anton (Jane) Rucinski Sr; Anna (Harry) Cisewski; Grace (Albin) Cisewski; Diane (LeRoy) Iczkowski; Theresa (Glen) Kussman. Many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Casimir Rucinski Sr; Frank Rucinski; Steve Rucinski; Joseph Rucinski Jr and his sister Regina Nagrocki.

Robert J. Bembenek

Robert J. Bembenek Sr, age 85 of Rosholt died Sunday December 26, 2010 at the Veteran's Home in King, WI.

Family and friends will gather to share memories from 4-8PM on Wednesday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel in Stevens Point. The American Legion Post #6 and the Disabled American Veteran Post, both of which he was a member will combine for a ritual at 6: 30PM on Wednesday at the chapel. The Knights of Columbus of which he was past Grand Knight will pray a rosary at 7PM. Private burial services will take place at the VA cemetery in King on Thursday.

Robert was born on February 12, l925 in Stevens Point, the son of the late Joseph & Pearl (Repinski) Bembenek.

He entered the U.S. Navy on May 28, l943 in Milwaukee. During WWII he served on the Destroyer McDonough. He received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one star, the Asiatic-Pacific Area Ribbon with 6 stars and the WWII Victory Medal. He was honorable discharged as a gunners mate 3rd Class on February 25, l946 at Great Lakes, Il.

Robert was employed at Montgomery Wards in Stevens Point as appliance manager for twenty years. After retirement he was an avid woodworker and gardener. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He married Geraldine Bierowski on January 4, 1947 at the Basilica of St. Josaphat in Milwaukee, WI. She survives along with sons: Robert Jr. (Elaine) , Plover: Michael (Cheryl) , Polonia and Steven, Plover: daughters Roseann (Robert) Czerwonka, Sacramento, CA and Marilyn (Terry) Lewis, Plover: two sisters and one brother: 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one grandchild.

Kenneth Hageman

Kenneth Hageman age 46 of Stevens Point passed away at his home December 5, 2010. Private services will be held.

Berdene Baumbach

Berdene Baumbach age 89 of Sparta passed away December 28, 2010 at Whispering Pines in Plover. Local arrangements were assisted by Plover Family Funeral Home and funeral services will be held at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home in Sparta.

Flora M. Gilbertson

Flora Gilbertson passed away peacefully on January 3, 2011 at the age of 97 at the Cedar Community Health Care Center in West Bend, where she has resided for the past 4 1/2 years.

A mass of Christian burial will be at 11: 30 AM on Friday January 7, 2011 at Saint Adalbert Catholic Church in Rosholt. Rev. Marcin Mankowski will officiate. Friends and relatives may pay there respects starting at 9: 30 am. Burial will be at the parish cemetery.

Flora was born in Rhinelander, on June 3, 1913 at 3 am, daughter of Mary and Nelson Bissonnette. She attended schools in Rhinelander and it was there that she met Orville (Bud) Gilbertson and were married on February 16, 1931. They lived in Minocqua and Marshfield raising a family of four before moving to Rosholt where they resided together for 34 years adding two more children to their family.

Survivors include three sons: Kenneth (Annette) Gilbertson; Port Washington, Roger (Jean) Gilbertson; Menomonee Falls, Pete (Carol) Gilbertson; Des Plaines, IL, and three daughters, Nancy (Martin) Czerwinski; and Annette (Larry) Megal of Menomonee Falls and Renee Gilbertson, Milwaukee. Also survived by 22 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. preceded in death by her husband Bud Gilbertson, granddaughter Cheryl Kottke, three sisters and two brothers.

John William Kollock

John William Kollock, 53, of Plover passed away January 5, 2011 while under the care of his family in Florence, Arizona after a nine month battle with Glioblastoma multiforme - a form of brain cancer.

Celebration of his life will be held on Monday January 10, 2011 at 11 am at the Plover -Shuda Funeral Home in Plover. Rev. John Jordens of Woodlands Church will officiate. Visitation will begin at 9: 30 am until the time of services. Burial will be at the St. Martin cemetery in Buena Vista.

John was born July 6, 1957 in Stevens Point, the son of William and Carol (Clark) Kollock. He was a graduate of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He held a variety of professional positions throughout his life, most recently with the great people of Roundy's Inc. of Stevens Point.

John was a kind, thoughtful and adventurous person with an inquiring mind. He loved God, family, friends, and especially a good meal.

He had many interests including hiking, biking, mountain climbing, scuba diving, traveling, meteorology, and classic "Hawaii 5-0". Additionally, he had recently begun a new endeavor - taking courses in astronomy. He raced for Point Pursuit, was a member of W.O.R.S., and the Arizona Trail Association. His greatest joy came from encouraging his nieces and nephews in their various activities. He attended Woodlands Church in Plover, and was a supporter of many charities in the area.

John is survived by his parents William and Carol Kollock, Florence, AZ; Sister Stacey (Barry) Ruffalo, Omaha, NE; brothers Mark (Tracy) , Oshkosh; Gary (Janel) , Plover; and Matthew, Madison; Nieces: Kelley, Kerren, Kate, and Cassidy; Nephews Griffin, Will, and Russell.

Aloha, John. You did well. You were a constant source of strength for our family. Love is forever. You are now our treasured memory.

Darlene Starosta

Darlene Starosta age 78 of Stevens Point passed away Wednesday afternoon at her home. Funeral services for Darlene will be held at 10: 30 AM on Saturday January 8, 2011 at St. Bronislava Catholic Church. Rev. Greg Bohren will officiate. Visitation will be from 9: 00 AM until the time of services at the church. Burial will be at the parish cemetery.

Darlene was born August 22, 1932 in Platteville, the daughter of James and Rosa (Howell) Byrnes. She graduated from Platteville High School. She married John L. Starosta in Ashland. The couple settled in the Plover area in 1962. Darlene worked in the nursing services department of St. Michaels Hospital until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of the St. Bronislava Rosary Society and the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother Associates. Darlene enjoyed traveling, gardening, going to casinos and was an avid Cubs fan, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Darlene is survived by her four daughters: Deanna Ruetten, Stevens Point; Linda (Clarence) Saunders, Custer; Leeann (Mike) Zoromski, Stevens Point; Mary (Greg) Michelkamp, Rosholt. One sister: Jeanne (Bob) Grant, Caledonia; one brother: Crockett (Donna) Byrnes, Plover. Nine grandchildren: Corey (Angela) Ruetten, Andrea Ruetten, Andy Byrnes, Jordan (Rob) Nikolai, Morgan Saunders, Ryan Zoromski, Sean Zoromski, Chelsey Zoromski, Kyle Zoromski. Three great grandchildren: Corey and Caleb Ruetten, Elliot Nikolai. Her brother-in-law Richard (Shirley) Starosta, Ashland and sister-in-law: Mary Jean Conklin, Sturgis. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John in 2003, her brother Jack Byrnes, and her granddaughter Laura Zoromski.

The family wishes to thank Stormy and the entire Ministry Hospice Staff for the care and compassion given to our Mom.

Norman Gore

Norman W. Gore , age 73 of Stevens Point, died January 5, 2011 at St Michael's Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Saturday at the Divine Word Lutheran Church at 2501 Plover Springs Dr in Plover. The Rev. Norman Paul will officiate. Burial will be in Pinelawn cemetery in Milwaukee. Friends may call at the Shuda Funeral Chapel in Stevens Point from 6-8PM on Friday and from 10AM until the service at the church on Saturday.

Norman was born on August 16, l937 in Milwaukee, the son of the late Wilbur & Clara (Lemke) Gore. He worked as a truck mechanic for Ryder Truck Rental until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife Myrleen, one son Terry (Shannon) Gore of Mosinee--six grandchildren and one sister Lou Ann Jacobs.

Clarence Garski

Clarence Garski, age 88, a former Stevens Point resident died Sunday January 9, 2011 at the Veteran's Home in King where he has resided for the past three years.

Clarence was born on September 26, l922 in the Town of Stockton, the son of the late Steven & Frances (Wyrowinski) Garski. He attended local schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on December 12, 1942 at Ft Sheridan, IL. He was honorable discharged on January 31, 1946 at Camp Grant, IL. He was a light machine gunner and received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon W/l Bronze Battle Star, the American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

After military services he moved to Chicago where he was a bus driver for Chicago Transit Authority until his retirement. He moved back to Stevens Point in 1994. Clarence lived at Point Manor from 2004 until 2007 when he moved to King.

He is survived by one sister-Alice (James) Zblewski of Stevens Point and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert & Hubert and two sisters Grace and Alvina. As per his wishes, funeral services will be private with burial in the Guardian Angel cemetery.

Anita M. Epstein

Anita M. Epstein age 82 of the Town of Dewey passed away January 11, 2011 at St. Michaels Hospital.

A mass of Christian Burial for Anita will be at 10: 30 AM on Friday January 14, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church (Torun) . Rev. Wesley Janowski will officiate. Burial will be at the parish cemetery. Friends and family will gather to share memories on Thursday from 4: 00 - 8: 00 PM and again from 9: 30 - 10: 15 AM at the Shuda Funeral Chapel - Stevens Point. A general rosary will be prayed on Thursday at 7: 15 PM at the funeral chapel.

Anita was born September 30, 1928 in Stevens Point, the daughter of John and Anna (Przybylski) Mayek. She graduated from P.J.Jacobs High School, and began working at Sentry Insurance. Anita married Donald Epstein on August 12, 1950 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. The couple moved to Milwaukee for a short time before returning to the area. They owned and operated the Ellis Street Grocery Store for three years. Anita enjoyed knitting, horseback riding, reading, flower gardening, and square dancing.

She is survived by her husband: Donald and their children: Linda (Terry) Fawley; Tom Epstein; Julie (Rick) Daniels; Bill (Sue) Epstein; Tim (Lori) Epstein. Eight grandchildren: Lucas (Carrie) , Tiffany, Matthew (Leonella), Tabitha (Ben) , Amber, Christopher, Nathan, and Nicole. Two great grandchildren: Jonathon and Emma. Her sister Alice Bolster and nephews: James and Robert and niece: Patricia. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother John Jr.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of St. Michaels Comfort Care Unit for the care and comfort given to Anita.

Leonard C. Golla

Leonard C. Golla age 87 of 434 West St. N. in Stevens Point passed away Tuesday January 11, 2011 at Mountview Care Center in Wausau.

A mass of Christian Burial for Leonard will be at 10: 30 AM Monday at St. Peter Catholic Church. Rev. Kevin Louis will officiate. Burial will be at the Guardian Angel cemetery. Friends and relatives will gather to share memories from 4: 00 - 7: 00 PM Sunday evening at the Shuda Funeral Chapel - Stevens Point, and again from 9: 30 - 10: 15 AM on Monday at the St. Faustina Room of St Peter Church. The Plover American Legion Post #543 will hold a ritual at the funeral chapel on Sunday at 5: 00 PM, The D.A.V. Chapter 30 and the V.F.W. #568 will combine for a ritual at 5: 30 and a general rosary will be prayed at 6: 00 PM all Sunday at the funeral home. A memorial in lieu of flowers will be established.

Leonard was born April 28, 1923 in Stevens Point, the son of John and Martha (Pionkowski) Golla. He graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1940. Leonard entered the United States Army on February 20, 1943 at Ft. Sheridan, IL. He served his country in Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He earned the American Theater Service Medal, European - African- Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, and the World War II Victory Medal. He returned to the area after his honorable discharge on November 5, 1945 at Fort Snelling, MN. Leonard married Lorraine Marie Kasper on June 22, 1946 at St. James Church in Wausau.

Leonard's 45 year career as a sales person in the area included working for Curtis Candy, Frito Lay, Montgomery Ward, Sentry Insurance and the Stevens Point Housing Authority from which he retired in 1988. After retirement he tended bar at the Legion Post #6 clubhouse for a number of years. Leonard is a lifetime member of the American Legion, DAV Chapter 30, and VFW Post # 568 and was active with the Pacelli Alumni Association and the St. Peter P.T.A. He enjoyed sports, playing pool and cards, dancing, and supporting his family in their school and sporting events.

Leonard is survived by his wife Lorraine and their children: Lynette Golla (Marc) , Stevens Point; Bruce Golla, WI Dells; Russ (Barb) Golla, Plover; Dean Golla, Stevens Point. He is also survived by: his sister Evelyn Bronk, Stevens Point; six grandchildren - Issac Schulze, Adrian (Amy) Schulze, Megan Golla, Lauren Golla, Logan Golla, Nicole Golla; and two great grandchildren - James Schulze and Leo Schulze. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Grace Golla, and two brothers, Richard and Ernie Golla. Leonard's family wish to thank Ministry Hospice and the Mountview Care Center staff for their wonderful care he received.

Martha M. Domaszek

Martha M. Domaszek age 105 passed away Sunday January 16, 2011 at the Stevens Point Care Center. Funeral services for Martha M. Domaszek will be at 11: 00 AM on Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia. Rev. Marcin Mankowski will officiate. Visitation will be from 9: 30 AM until the time of services at the church. A General Rosary led by the Sacred Heart Rosary Society of which Martha was a 78 year member of Rose #18 will be prayed at the church on Thursday at 10: 15 AM. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Parish cemetery. Shuda Funeral Services of Stevens Point & Plover are assisting the family.

Martha was born September 24, 1905 in the Town of Sharon, the daughter of Frank and Josephine (Eckendorf) Studzinski. She graduated from Stevens Point Normal Teacher College in 1923. Martha taught at rural schools for seven years. She married Raymond Domaszek June 15, 1927 at Sacred Heart, they raised a family and farmed in the Town of New Hope until 1968. The couple relocated to Polonia after building a home there. Martha was passionate about praying the rosary throughout her life, and was an active member of the rosary society. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and bingo, and was involved in the R.S.V.P. group at the Lincoln Center, along with volunteering at the Holly Shop at the center until the age of 93. Martha was the oldest living member of Sacred Heart Parish.

Martha is survived by her two sons: Robert (Bernie) Domaszek, Stevens Point and Eugene (Wanda) Domaszek, Amherst Jct. One sister: Esther Rozek, Custer and her daughter-in-law Arlene Koehl, Amherst Jct. 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond in 1981, their son James in 1996, 7 sisters and 3 brothers.

Stanley Skrzypkowski

Stanley R. Skrzypkowski, age 86, of Plover, died unexpectedly Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at his home.

A mass of Christian burial for Stanley will be at 10: 30 AM on Tuesday January 25, 2011 at St. Bronislava Catholic Church. Rev. James Trempe will officiate. Burial will be at the Plover cemetery in the spring. Friends and family will gather to share memories from 9: 00 - 10: 15 AM at the church on Tuesday. Plover - Shuda Funeral Service and Crematory is assisting the family.

Stanley was born February 4 1924 in Plover the son of Adam and Kathren (Konkol) Skrzypkowski. Stanley started his own farm after schooling, before he married Helen Siwek on November 17, 1945. He worked at Consolidated Papers where he worked for 24 years, before he opened Tree Acres Nursery in 1958. He started by growing Christmas Trees and grew it to include nursery sod and a greenhouse. The couple retired in 1975 when they sold the business to Larry and Doreen. He enjoyed woodcarving, fishing and especially spending time with his grandsons.

Stanley is survived by his son, Larry (Doreen) Skrzypkowski, Plover; two grandsons, Stanley and Adam, both of Plover. Two sisters: Jene Wayerski, Plover; Delores Duda, Stevens Point. his brother: Chet Skippy, Whiting. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen in 2003, 4 sisters: Lucy, Bernice, Margaret, Esther. 4 brothers: Joe, Leo, Bernard, Frank.
