Ralph P. Biersteker
Ralph P. Biersteker, 81, Green Bay, passed away on Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at a local hospital.

He was born on July 11, 1921, in De Pere to the late Joseph Martin Sr. and Esther Julie (Tiller) Biersteker. Ralph graduated from East High School, class of 1940, and also attended Stout State. He was a lifetime resident of the area.

Ralph served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS BULL, during World War II, in the European and Asiatic Pacific Theaters as Navy petty officer, radioman first class. He was awarded the following medals: Victory Medal, Good Conduct, Philippine Liberation, American Area, European-African-Middle Eastern and Asiatic Pacific Area star. He received an honorable discharge. On Nov. 27, 1947, he married former Carole La Rock at Annunciation Church. She preceded him in death on July 13, 1989.

Ralph was employed by the Green Bay & Western Railroad for 36 years, retiring July 1, 1982, as supervisor of the car department. He was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish. He was a member of the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, Ashwaubenon Council 7498; 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, St. Jude Assembly as "Sir Knight Ralph Biersteker," serving as past navigator and honor guard; VFW; American Legion; Wisconsin Elk's Lodge No. 259, serving on the Waiters Club and Bingo; Past President of the Green Bay Route Credit Union; member of Railroad Carman Union; Green Bay & Western R.R. Retirement Club, serving as secretary since September 1961; member of Railroad Museum Advisory Board and National Riflemen's Club. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and carpentry. Ralph will be truly missed by all his family and many friends.

Survivors include his brothers and sisters, Lola and Joseph Linsmier, Minnesota, Roland Peter and JoAnn, California, Kenneth, Oregon, Bruce and Kathleen, Green Bay, Patrick and Yvonne, Green Bay, Nancy and James Rothe, Mequon, Roger, Green Bay, Janet and James Stangel, Green Bay; and a very special friend, Mary Morgan, Green Bay; brothers- and sisters-in-laws, Barney and Donna Black, George Bradley, Eugene LaRock, all of Green Bay, Nancy Biersteker, Green Bay. Further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and many friends.

Ralph was preceded in death by his wife, Carole; parents; three brothers, Robert, killed in WWII, Joseph Martin Jr., and Gary A.; one sister, Esther (Tiny) Biersteker-Black; and one sister-in-law, Lois.

The family will receive friends at the Pfotenhauer Funeral Home East, 2379 E. Mason Street at Finger Road, across from the East Town Mall, today, Jan. 28, from 4 until 8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Wednesday until the funeral cortege leaves for church. Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Honor Guard vigil from 5:30 until 8 p.m. today. Wisconsin Elk's Lodge No. 259 service 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Parish prayer and Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree, Ashwaubenon Council No. 7498, service 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Wednedday at the Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 2270 S. Oneida St., with the Rev. James Hablewitz officiating. Full military honors after the church service. Entombment to follow. Harold J. Pfotenhauer, Funeral Director.

In lieu of flowers and other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund in Ralph's name has been established at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the staff of St. Vincent's 7th floor and Western Village for all their care.

Marie P. Lindner, 84, De Pere. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1307 Lourdes Ave., De Pere. Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. Tenth St., De Pere, is assisting the family.

Rose Swiecichowski
Rose Swiecichowski, 87, Pulaski. Visitation 4-8 p.m. today at Marnocha Funeral Home, 186 E. Pulaski St., Pulaski, and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Assumption B.V.M. Catholic Church, 124 E. Pulaski St., Pulaski. Wake service 4:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Funeral Mass 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Survivors include one son, Cy (Shirley) Swiecichowski, Jackson; one daughter, Pat Grzywa, Green Bay; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Victoria Karcz, Pulaski, Ann (Albert) Bollini, Iron Mountain, Mich., Claire Kewan, Eau Claire.

Rose M. Vieau
Rose M. Vieau, 89, a longtime Green Bay and Crivitz resident, was taken to heaven on January 26, 2003.

She was born August 30, 1913, in Mt. Pilliar, Wis., to the late Geroge F. and Pauline (Fiala) Kustka. On December 6, 1941, she married William Vieau in Chicago, Ill.

Rose enjoyed playing golf and was an avid card player. She was a loving wife and caring mother for her family. Her top priority was taking care of others.

Survivors include her two children, Robert (Evie) Vieau, Luxemburg, and Linda (Rev. Fred) Sowatzka, Menasha; five grandchildren, Fred William (Julie) Sowatzka, Lavonne Holzenback, Robert (Linda) Vieau, Kyle Vieau and William "Billy" Vieau; four great-grandchildren, Moriah, Amber, Mary Beth and Ryan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William; her parents; one sister, Mildren Frank; and one brother, George Kustka.

Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., today, January 28, 2003, from 4-8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the cortege leaves for church. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m.

Wednesday at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 312 Victoria St., with the Rev. Ralph Merkatoris officiating. Entombment in Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum, Bay Settlement..

Gary. R. Weidner
Gary R. Weidner, 54, 644 St. James Cr., died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at a local hospital. He was born Nov. 18, 1948, in Minneapolis to the former Chancellor Edward W. Weidner and the late Jean Weidner. Gary did his undergraduate studies and received his law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Gary began his career in law in 1974 with the then Hanaway-Ross and Hanaway Law Firm. At the time of his death Gary was a Partner with the firm Hanaway, Weidner, Bachhuber, Woodward & Maloney. On June 21, 1980, he married Ellen Schell. Gary was a member of the Brown County Bar Association, the Wisconsin Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. He was a Certified Trial Specialist, certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He was a founding member of the Phoenix Dunkers Booster Club. Gary was currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Meyer Theater and was a former President of the Brown County Harbor Commission.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen; two sons, Peter and James, both at home; his father, Edward Weidner, and his wife, Marjorie, Green Bay; two sisters, Nancy Larson and Dean Brandt, Minneapolis, Karen Weidner and Dr. Kurt Klotzbuecher, Woodbury, Minn.; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Alison Weidner, Ham Lake, Minn.; nieces and nephews, Melanie, Christopher, Natalie, Will, Erika, Mark, Sammy, Danny and J.J.; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean.

Gary's family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix Sports Center on the University Campus. A celebration of Gary's life will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Phoenix Sports Center, and a reception and a time to visit will follow. A memorial fund has been established in Gary's name.

Gary will be most remembered for his enthusiasm for sports and his strong and loving presence to his sons.

Gary's family would like to extend a very special thank-you to the staff of the Brown County Arena, the Ashwaubenon Rescue Squad, St. Vincent Hospital E.R. Staff and the staff of Bellin Hospital.

Mrs. Edmund Manger
Mrs. Edmund (Virginia) Manger, 84, Green Bay, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at her home. Ginnie was born July 25, 1918, to the late Harold and Eva (Greenwood) Parker in New Haven, Conn. On June 5, 1992, she married Edmund Manger in Green Bay. She attended Tennessee Women's College, University of New Hampshire, and finished her degree at University of Green Bay. Ginnie was a wonderful wife, mother and friend, who always had a pleasant smile. Survivors include her husband; two sons and two daughters, Robert J. (Betsy) Rose, Haverhill, N.H.; Nancy (Don) Bultman, Dallas, Texas; James P. (Linda) Rose, Sheboygan; Virginia (Brian) Harney, Fond du Lac; two stepchildren, Robert (Betsy) Manger, Seattle, Wash.; Barbara Manger and William Lynch, Milwaukee; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Morris. Friends may call on Wednesday after 1 p.m. at Union Congregational Church, 716 South Madison St., where the funeral service will be at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Mize officiating. Inurnment at Woodlawn Cemetery. Lyndahl Funeral Home is serving the family.

A memorial fund has been established.

Mark G. 'Ollie' Oliver
Mark G. "Ollie" Oliver, 53, Green Bay, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003 at a local hospital following a courageous three-year battle with cancer. He was born August 31, 1949 in Green Bay to Dorothy (Demeny) Oliver and the late Francis "Nig" Oliver. Ollie was a graduate of Premontre High School, Class of 1968. Following high school, on July 31, 1968, he joined the United Stares Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. On August 30, 1969 Ollie received numerous combat wounds which earned his Purple Heart with two stars. In August of 1972 he retired from the Marine Corps. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and he was active in the "Lockem Up" program to enforce gunlocks. He was a member of the DNR hunter safety program and with the disabled hunters program. Ollie really enjoyed his time up north especially at the Big Bass Resort in Eagle River.

He will be sadly missed by his daughter and her special friend, Deborah Oliver and Raelynn Campbell; his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Jenni Oliver; his daughter at home, Sarah Oliver; his mother, Dorothy Oliver; two grandchildren, Sabrina and Griffin, all of Green Bay; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and Ray Ferguson, Shawano; Stella and Lee Sudduth, Athelstane; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Gayle Oliver, Stephen and Cindy Oliver, all of Green Bay; his dog, "Gracie"; his special neighbors, Steve and Barb Pierkowski, Green Bay; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Oliver; and one granddaughter, Kirsten.

Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday. Friends may also call at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Dr., from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Paul Demuth officiating. Burial will be in Nicolet Memorial Gardens.

The family of Mark G. "Ollie" Oliver would like to extend a special word of thanks to Dr. Hugh Davis, Donna, Sue, Sandy and Mary at the Pain Clinic, the rest of the staff at the VA Hospital in Milwaukee, the 9th floor nursing staff of St. Vincent Hospital and Unity Hospice.

Christine M. Peters
Christine M. Peters, 38, Pulaski, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at a local hospital. She was born June 11, 1964, in Green Bay to Victor and Dolores (Laskowski) Borowitz. Chris was very friendly and personable to everyone she met. She worked for Carver Boat in Pulaski and Peters Concrete Co. and for just over a year she had worked for the Brown County Clerk of Courts. Chris loved gardening, especially roses and flowers. She was a very talented painter whose art centered on flowers. Chris had a love of jewelry and also worked with jewelry.

She is survived by her children, Jenna Peters and Jared Peters and their father, Jeff Peters, all of Green Bay; her parents, Victor and Dolores Borowitz, Arizona; her brother and sisters, Mary Lee Borowitz, Minneapolis, Minn.; Wayne Borowitz, Neenah; Doreen (Mike) Ireland and their daughter, Alexandria, all of Green Bay; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed by the entire Peters family and her friends.

She was preceded in death by her infant brother, Randall.

Friends may call at SS. Edward and Isidore Catholic Church, 3667 Flintville Rd., Flintville, from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Friends may also call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Dave Kasperek officiating. Burial will be in SS. Edward and Isidore Catholic Cemetery.

The family of Christine M. Peters would like to extend a special word of thanks to Aurora BayCare 3rd floor ICU and all the doctors and nurses for their kind and professional care.

Mrs. Stunislava (Stella) Vakoc
Mrs. Stunislava (Stella) Vakoc, 85, Green Bay. Visitation after noon Thursday at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., until funeral at 2 p.m. She is survived by a son, John (Emma) Vakoc, Augusta, Ga.; sisters Helen (Jerome) Strigel, Marshfield; Jennie (Leo) Haffenbredl, Auburndale; brother Alex "Boots" Markewicz, Marshfield, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Donald G. 'Don' Van De Hei
Donald G. "Don" Van De Hei, 60, Denmark, passed away on Jan. 25, 2003, at his home after a long battle with cancer. His family was at his side. Don was born on Sept. 29, 1942, to Clarence and Helen (Heezen) Van De Hei in Green Bay. He was a 1960 graduate of Preble High School. He served his country as a member of the US Air Force. On Aug. 1, 1970 he married Kathy Le Fevre at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Green Bay. He was currently a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Pine Grove. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a volunteer at the Denmark Senior Center. Don liked to play Yahtzee and cards. He was also known for his sense of humor and loved to tell jokes. He enjoyed woodworking, the outdoors and all sports. He especially loved football and was an avid Packers fan.

Don will be sadly missed by his wife Kathy, mother Helen, three children; Fabian (fiancé Becky) Van De Hei, Denmark, Joe (fiancé Tammy) Van De Hei, Howard, Amy Van De Hei, Denmark, a grandchild, Dalton, eight brothers and sisters; Betty (Dick) Freitag, Green Bay, Terry (Daryl) Hoefs, Montello, Bill (Maggie) Van De Hei and Jerry (Sue) Van De Hei both Green Bay, Tom Van De Hei, Ledgeview, Mary Stahl, Green Bay, Glen (Jackie) Van De Hei, Ledgeview and Steve (Sharon) Van De Hei, Green Bay, eight brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Chris (Greyson) Blair, Denmark, Laura (Jim) Buresh, New Franken, Mona (Joe) Buresh, Green Bay, Louise (John) Potts, De Pere, Annette (Randy) Jensen and Steve (Janet) Le Fevre both Green Bay, Josy (Jim) Wavrunek and Mary (Frank) Buresh both Denmark; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Clarence, a brother Joseph Van De Hei, a nephew who was also his godson Jim Freitag and his mother-in-law and father-in-law Roger and Bernice Le Fevre.

Mason, 468-4111, on Monday from 3-9 p.m. Parish Prayer Service Monday at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church Tuesday from 9-10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, County Hwy. R, Pine Grove on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Ralph Merkatoris officiating. Entombment at Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.

The family would like to express a thank you to Unity Hospice. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
