Joseph V. Flees

Joseph Victor Flees, 94, of 3349 Whiting Ave., went to his eternal glory on Wednesday June 22, 2011, at Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital, Stevens Point, with his loving family by his side. Funeral services will be held at 10: 00a.m. June 27, 2011 at St. Adalbert Catholic Church, Rosholt. Rev. Marcin Mankowski will officiate. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Plover-Shuda Funeral Home in Plover, and again from 9: 00 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. A general rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Joseph was born November 28, 1916, in the town of Franzen, a son of the late Adam and Eva (Goskowicz) Flees. He attended local schools. In 1933 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and then in 1937 joined the Corrigan lumber company. Joseph married Esther M. Yenter on October 21, 1939, at St. Adalbert Catholic Church and together they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2009.

The couple farmed at County OO Road Rosholt from 1943 until 1988. Joseph was a proud man who worked long and hard, enabling a long and well deserved retirement. They moved from the farm they built so beautifully together, to 3360 Evergreen Drive, Rosholt in 1988 and to Care Partners, Stevens Point in 2007. Esther passed away in 2010.

Joseph was an avid outdoorsman, who thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He would be the center of attention as he relived the many adventures through his wonderful storytelling. He and Esther enjoyed family gatherings, traveling, woodworking, gardening, and ‘cutting a rug’ on the dance floor. Joseph will be remembered for his kindness and devotion to family. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include ten daughters: Dorothy (Dan) Kropidlowski-Rosholt, Toni (Jay) Magnuson-Plymouth, Minn., Ramona (Ray) Biadasz-Rosholt, Bonnie Zietlow-Pewaukee, Diane (Len) Cychosz-Custer, Marian (Ralph) Gagas-Custer, Elaine (Larry) Gagas-Rosholt, Cindy (Chris) Bestul-Cleveland, Esther (Joe) Retzer-Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Joie (David) Flees-Lauderman, Austin, Texas; three sons: Eugene (special friend Connie) Flees-Osceola, Iowa, James (Barbara) Flees-Bloomington, Minn., and Ralph (Kris) Flees-Savage, Minn.; one sister: Theresa Groshek-Wittenberg and one brother Frank (Lorraine) Flees-Wittenberg; 26 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Joseph was preceded in death by his loving wife Esther, two brothers: Alois Flees and Tony Flees and two sisters: Regina Groshek and Delores Javorek; son-in-law Tom Zietlow and great granddaughter, Tracy Suchowski. Joseph’s family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital for their gracious and wonderful care.

Charles H. Walport

Charles H. Walport age 66, of Stevens Point passed away Wednesday June 22, 2011 in Madison after complications from surgery. Funeral services will be held at 10: 00 AM Monday June 27, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Jerzy Rebacz will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 - 8 PM Sunday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel in Stevens Point. Visitation will also be on Monday from 9: 00 AM to the time of services at the church. Burial will be at the Guardian Angel cemetery. An Elks ritual will be held at 5: 00 PM and a general rosary will be prayed at 7: 00 PM both Sunday at the funeral home. Shuda Funeral Service of Stevens Point & Plover is assisting the family.

Charles was born April 4, 1945 in Stevens Point, the son of Edward and Regina (Speth) Walport. After attending local schools Charles entered the United States Army January 28, 1964 in Milwaukee. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Expert Rifle Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on October 5, 1967 from Milwaukee.

He married Louise Yach on August 10, 1968 in Stevens Point, the couple have settled in Stevens Point for the past 43 years. He worked at Consolidated Papers for 25 years retiring in 2005. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Charles was a very active Elk Club member, he served on many local and state committees, and was the Exalted Ruler of the Stevens Point Elks Club in 1992.

Charles is survived by his wife Louise and their two sons: Chris Walport, Wisconsin Rapids and Carl Walport, Mosinee. Two daughter -in-laws: Tammy Walport and Patricia Walport. Six grandchildren: Brandon, Alaric, Hunter, Amber, Heather, and Brianna. Four sisters: Norita (Robert) Schultz, Germantown; Ruth (Lynn) Thomson, Kenosha; Karen (Joe) Ostrowski, Stevens Point; Debra (Pat) Bruski, Wittenburg. One brother Edward (Ann) Walport, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents and their son Chad.

Josephine A. Trott

Josephine A. Trott age 70 of the Edgewater Manor in Stevens Point passed away unexpectedly Saturday evening June 18, 2011 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. A celebration of life service for Josephine will be held at 11: 30 AM on Thursday June 23, 2011 at the Shuda Funeral Chapel - Stevens Point. Dwaine Habrat pastoral minister at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church will officiate. Friends and family will gather to share memories from 9: 30 AM Thursday until the time of services at the funeral chapel. The ladies of the Moose will hold a ritual at 10: 00 AM on Thursday at the funeral home. A memorial in lieu of flowers will be established in her name.

Jo Ann was born July 22, 1940 in Milwaukee, the daughter of Samuel and Carmella (Mancuso) Cicirello. After graduating high school she worked various jobs. She married Gerald Trott in 1960 in Milwaukee, and became a homemaker. The couple and their family moved to Tripoli, WI in 1978. They owned and operated MaMa Jo's Restaurant in the Willow Region until 1983. She moved to Stevens Point in 1998, and enjoyed cooking, while being with the people she cared most about her family and friends.

Jo Ann is survived by her daughters: Dianne (Tom) Jansen, Wind Lake, WI; her former husband Gerald Trott, Tripoli; Denise Trott, Marshfield; Cathy (Gary) Henrichs, Athens; Constance (Rick) Preidis, Arbor Vitae; Jeri Jo (Mark) Henrichs, Stevens Point; Jackie West, Marshfield; Paula Bergman, Medford. Sixteen Grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her very special friends Robert Fischer and Cheri Balthezor. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Carlo.

Larry P. Hillemeyer

Larry P. Hillemeyer, age 72, of Bancroft passed away Tuesday June 14, 2011 at the Crystal River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Waupaca. Funeral services for Larry will be held at 10: 30 AM Saturday June 18, 2011 at the Plover - Shuda Funeral Home in Plover. Pastor Corey A. Brookins will officiate. Visitation will be from 9: 30 Saturday morning until the time of service. Burial will be at the Pine Grove cemetery.

Larry was born July 18, 1938 in Janesville, the son of Paul and Birdie (Farrey) Hillemeyer. After graduation of high school in Janesville, he began working at General Motors. He served in the Army reserves in 1959. Soon after, he turned the hobby of bee keeping he began in junior high school into a business. In the early 1970's he moved to Portage County and continued his passion of Bee Keeping. He and his wife, the former Betty Ruth Lingle, have been together for 35 years. Larry enjoyed reading and watching movies. He also enjoyed trapping when he was younger and had recently started trapping again with his youngest two sons.

Larry is survived by his wife and five children: Joseph (Diana) Hillemeyer, Wisconsin Rapids; Elizabeth (Brian) St. Myers, Wisconsin Rapids; Jonathon Hillemeyer, James Hillemeyer, both of Bancroft; Victoria (Fiancé' Dylan) Hillemeyer, Bancroft. Five grandchildren: AnnaLeigh, Caleb, Maximus, Isabelle, Rebekah (due August 2011). One sister: Juanita (R.L.) Patterson, Janesville; one nephew: Kirk (Diane) Patterson, Janesville. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Debbie K. Berna

Debbie K. Berna, age 83, of 7873 Wilderness Dr in Rosholt died Saturday June 11, 2011 at her home with her husband Ron at her side. She was under the care of Ministry Hospice Home Care.

Funeral services will be held at 11Am on Wednesday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Marcin Mankowski will officiate. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart cemetery in Polonia. Friends may call at the Chapel from 4-8PM on Tuesday and from 10AM until the services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Debbie was born on April 5, l928 in Hokkaido, Japan, the daughter of the late Akida & Yoni Oikawa. She graduated High School in Japan. She married Ronald Berna on May 23, 1957 at the American Embassy in Tokyo. Ron was in the U.S. Army Special Forces and they traveled the world until his retirement in 1975. They lived in Boston, MA until moving to the Rosholt area in 1985. Debbie enjoyed bowling, fishing, sewing and going to casinos.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years Ronald--one brother Akisada and two sisters Mutsumi & Yoni, all of Tokyo, Japan. Sister-in-laws: Bette (Patrick) Maslowski of Stevens Point and Shirley Brozik of Amherst Jct.

Sophie Polum

Sophie Polum age 87, was welcomed in by the angels and embraced eternal life on Monday, June 6, 2011. Tony, her loving husband of 65 years, was at her side.

Sophie was born May 14, 1924 in Stevens Point the daughter of August and Regina (Aron) Burclaff. Sophie attended St. Stephens grade school and graduated P.J. Jacobs High in 1941. She married Tony Polum February 26, 1946 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church Stevens Point.

The couple settled in Stevens Point and have resided at their present home for over 50 years. She was a homemaker all her adult life. She worked at Frost Flies, first tying flies at home and later working in the Frost Factory. Later, Sophie worked for Shopko until her retirement in 1983. She enjoyed many years of fishing with her husband and spending time at their cabin in Minoqua. She also enjoyed going to the casino, and she loved to bake. Most of all, family was all important to Sophie. The four grandchildren were here absolute pride and joy. She encouraged and supported them in every way.

Sophie is survived by her husband of 65 years Tony Polum. Their children Kathleen (Jim) Wilson of Stevens Point, Sandy (Jeff) Herman of Plover. And four grandchildren; Gina Herman, Plover; Nicole Herman, Stevens Point; Matt Wilson, Miami, FL; Luke Wilson, Madison.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10: 30 AM Thursday June 9, at St. Stephen Catholic Church. The Rev. John Potaczek will officiate. Burial will be in the Guardian Angel cemetery. Friends and family will gather to share memories on Wednesday from 4: 00 - 8: 00 PM at the Shuda Funeral Chapel, and at the church from 9: 30 AM until the time of service on Thursday. A general rosary will be prayed at 7: 00 PM Wednesday night at the funeral chapel.

The Family wishes to offer special thanks to Jeannine Wanta and Ministry Hospice for their loving care and wonderful support. Mom, you will be greatly missed, you have touched all our lives in a special way that will always be remembered and treasured. We love you and your kindness and love lives on in each one of us. Our Heavenly Father knew that you were getting tired and He called you Home.

Virginia E. Kudronowicz

Virginia E. Kudronowicz age 87 of Stevens Point passed away Wednesday morning June 1, 2011 at St. Michaels Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11: 00 AM Saturday June 4, 2011 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Rev. George Thayilkuzhithottu MSFS will officiate.

Visitation will be from 10: 00 AM until the time of service at the church on Saturday. Shuda Funeral Service & Crematory of Stevens Point & Plover is assisting the family.

Virginia was born April 22, 1924 in the Town of New Hope, the daughter of Lucian and Anna (Kizewski) Zblewski. She married John Kudronowicz on June 28, 1947 at St. Peter Catholic Church.

Together they raised three sons all of whom survive her: Michael (Jo) , Marietta, GA; Charles, Menomonee Falls; Jeffrey (Mary) , Cedarburg. Six grandchildren, four great grandchildren. Two sisters: Nettie Hintz, Stevens Point and Esther Zblewski, Madison. One brother Joseph (Karen) Zblewski, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John in 2009, four brothers and 4 sisters.

Marian C. Amman

Marian C. Amman, 88, Stevens Point, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Ministry St. Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia, with the Rev. Marcin Mankowski officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery in Polonia. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. Thursday, June 9, until the Mass.

Donations should be made to Servants of Guadalupe, Mass stipends for her, and the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Rosary Making Guild.

Shuda Funeral Service of Stevens Point and Plover assisted the family with arrangements. Condolences may be offered online at www.shudafuneral.com.

Mrs. Amman was born Nov. 9, 1922, in Michigan, a daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine (Kuchar) Vasko. She graduated from St. Michael's High School in Maple Grove, Mich. She was married to Richard Amman on May 8, 1943, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Maple Grove, Mich. He died in 1999.

After several years, the couple moved to northern Wisconsin and settled in Merrill, where they owned and operated a dairy farm for the next 20 years. They moved to Arizona in 1970 before returning to the Midwest in 1980, settling in Spring Green. She moved to Stevens Point to live with her daughter in 2000. She belonged to the Sacred Heart Rosary Society and was a Rosholt Meal Site volunteer.

Marian is survived by four sons, Richard, Estero, Fla., Robert, East Lansing, Mich., Theodore (Rose) , Cross Plains, and Julius, Mesa, Ariz.; one daughter, Patricia Amman, Stevens Point; one brother, Joseph F. Vasko, Walled Lake, Mich.; three sisters, Frances Silverthorn, Grand Blanc, Mich., Pauline Brinks, White Cloud, Mich., and Mildred Lamb, Sterling Heights, Mich.; and four grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Jannette Vasko.

William A. Kvatek

William A. Kvatek, 92, of 1933 W. River Drive, Stevens Point, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Ministry Saint Michael's Hospital, Stevens Point.

A Mass of Christian burial for William will be held at 11: 30 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011, at St. Stephen Catholic Church. The Rev. John Potaczak will officiate. Burial will be in the Guardian Angel cemetery. Visitation will be from 9: 30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. William was born April 29, 1919, in De Pere, the son of the late Anton and Katherine (Holy) Kvatek. He moved to Stevens Point as a child with his family. He graduated from Emerson High School. He married Agnes Flatoff on May 3, 1941, at St. Peter's Catholic Church. He worked at Lullabye Mfg. Co. until moving to Chicago, where they lived until he entered the U.S. Army .

William entered the U.S. Army on July 20, 1944, in Milwaukee. He served as a rifleman instructor. He received the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Ribbon. He was discharged as a Tech Sgt. on June 20, 1946, at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

After his service, he returned to Stevens Point and worked at Altenburg Dairy for three years. He then worked the next 25 years as an officer for the Portage County Sheriff's Department, from which he retired as a captain. He then worked as a court bailiff for Portage County for the next 29 years. He enjoyed fishing, yard work, and especially spending time with his family.

William is survived by his wife of 70 years, Agnes; one son, Jim (Carol) Kvatek of Stevens Point; three grandchildren, Debbie, Lori, and Randy; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Lisa M. Kellerman

Lisa M. Kellerman age 49 of Stevens Point passed away Wednesday May 25, 2011 at St. Michaels Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

A memorial service for Lisa will be held at 10: 30 AM on Friday May 27, 2011 at the Shuda Funeral Chapel in Stevens Point. St. Stanislaus Parish Pastoral Minister Dwaine Habrat will officiate. Visitation will be from 9: 00 AM until the time of services at the Shuda Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in Lisa's name.

Lisa was born December 7, 1961 in Stevens Point, the daughter of Richard and Thelma (Plouff) Kellerman. She graduated from Pacelli High School in 1980. Lisa worked for the Christian Brothers and at the Copps Corporation before finding her true calling as a caregiver for Aurora Health Services, where she worked until becoming visually impaired after suffering a stroke in 2005. She and her family are forever grateful to the Plover - Whiting Lions Club for making it possible for her to receive her Leader dogs, first Kido and later Bella. Lisa fulfilled a lifelong dream of swimming with the dolphins in Florida, this past winter.

Lisa is survived by her father and step-mother: Richard (Lucille) Kellerman, Stevens Point. Three sisters: Linda (Ron) Roede, Belmont, MI; Laura (Brian) Eartly, Mazon, IL; Tina (Dave) Koller, Eagle River. Two brothers: Richard Jr (Kathy) Kellerman, Stevens Point and Craig (Marcia) Kellerman, Stevens Point. Bella her Leader dog and several special friends, Lynette Golla, Tonia Hauntke, Melissa Simkowski and Gary McDonald. She was preceded in death by her Mother Thelma in 1976.

Margaret "Midge" McDonald

Margaret "Midge" McDonald age 90, passed away Monday evening May 23, 2011 at Wellington Place in Whiting. A mass of Christian burial for Midge will be held at noon on Thursday May 26, 2011 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Rev. George Thayilkuzhithottu, Msfs will officiate. Friends and family will gather to share memories from 11: 00 AM until the time of services Thursday at the church. Shuda Funeral Service is assisting the family.

Midge was born August 29, 1920 in Poughkeepsie, New York, the daughter of Joseph and Antonina (Sawicka) Rossi. She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School and married Thomas E. McDonald on February 16, 1943 at St Joseph Church in Poughkeepsie. They were life-long residents of New York, until she moved to the Stevens Point area four years ago to be with her daughter and son-in-law. Midge was an avid sports enthusiast; she loved to sing and made friends very easily. She never missed a party!

Midge is survived by her daughter: Beth (Chris) Mortensen, Stevens Point. Four grandchildren: Sean (Maria) McDonald, New York; Jessica McDonald, New York; Jennifer (Kyle Quinn) Mortensen, Massachusetts; Jeffery Mortensen, Middleton. Three great grandchildren: Brendel, Matthew, Mason all of New York. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Thomas in 1996, two sons and 2 sisters.

Midge’s family wishes to thank the staff of Wellington Place – Whiting, and Ministry Hospice for the wonderful care that she received.
