Moen, Irving Peter

BLANCHARDVILLE - Irving Peter Moen, age 87, of Blanchardville died on Monday afternoon, November 13, 2000, at his home in Blanchardville. He was born on June 27, 1913, in York township, Green County, Wisconsin, to Arthur and Clara (Berg) Moen. He attended the River Forks rural grade school. After he finished his schooling, he started farming. He was married on March 20, 1935, in the Perry Lutheran Church Parsonage to Esther Sylvia Retrum. They farmed in the Waldwick and Blanchardville area until 1958, when they moved to Blanchardville. He worked at the University of Wisconsin Hill Farms in Madison in the agronomy department. Esther died on September 20, 1968. On April 5, 1969, in the Hope Lutheran Church in Mineral Point, he married Beulah Emily (Kahl) Steensland. He retired in 1975. In his retirement he enjoyed boating, fishing and traveling with Beulah. He was a member of Perry Lutheran Church in Daleyville. Irving is survived by his wife, Beulah Moen of Blanchardville; two sons, Curtis R. (Ruth) Moen of Rockford, Illinois, and Russell (Rita) Moen of Blanchardville; two daughters, Janet (Jim) McNeill of Monticello, and Karen (David) Judd of Dodgeville; four step-children, Ronald Steensland of Apache Junction, Arizona, Barbara (John) Peters of Gainesville, Florida, Betty (Eugene) Home of Mineral Point, and Karen (David) Speth of Janesville; a brother, Edgar Moen of Mount Horeb: 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Esther; a grandchild, Mark Moen of Rockford; and a brother, Arthur. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2000, at 1:00 p.m. at PERRY LUTHERAN CHURCH in Daleyville. The Rev. Braxton East of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mount Horeb will officiate. Burial will be in the Perry Lutheran Church cemetery in Daleyville. Friends may call on Wednesday evening, November 15, 2000, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at SAETHER FUNERAL HOME in Blanchardville.

Nelson, Sharett L.

Nemec, Ruby E.

MADISON - Ruby E. Nemec, born March 3, 1913, in South Dakota, died on Sunday, November 12, 2000, in East Lansing, Michigan, at age 87. She lived most of her adult life in the Madison, Wisconsin, area: Monona, then Sun Prairie, and then the city of Madison. Ruby graduated from high school in Winner, South Dakota, in 1933, married George Nemec on June 5, 1935, then moved to the Madison area. Ruby was bookkeeper and office manager for her husband's landscaping and excavating business. Ruby had numerous hobbies and interests, including gardening, needlework, weaving and cooking. She raised purebred dogs and was an avid horsewoman, raising, training and riding horses. Mrs. Nemec is survived by three children, Shirley DiCenzo of Millis, Massachusetts, Merle Capps of Anchorage, Alaska, and Linda Hughes of Okemos, Michigan; and seven grandchildren, Kathy DiCenzo, Robert DiCenzo, Karissa Weeks, Dustin Weeks, Scott Hughes, Rennie Hughes and Ryan Hughes. Mrs. Nemec is also survived by her sisters, Ardath Ewing and Lela Pakpe, both of South Dakota; and by her brothers, Donald Hopkins of Florida, and Marvin Hopkins of South Dakota. Her husband, George Nemec, preceded her in death, as did her granddaughter, Maureen DiCenzo. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2000, at SCHROEDER-CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3325 E. Washington Ave. in Madison, with family visitation from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2000, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens cemetery.

Parsons, Virgil C.

BARABOO - Virgil C Parsons, age 77, of the town of Baraboo, entered eternal rest at his home on Tuesday, November 14, 2000, surrounded by his loving family after a long illness. Virgil was born on September 8, 1923, in Bruce, Wisconsin, the son of Wallace and Rosebud (Darling) Parsons. Virgil entered the U.S. Army in 1943. He served in the Army Medical Corps throughout Europe during World War II; and he was discharged in 1946. Virgil married Genevieve Raschein on November 22, 1947, in Baraboo; they shared 51 years before she passed away in 1999. Virgil and Gen lived in California and Michigan before moving to Baraboo in 1950. He then farmed in the Baraboo area for his entire life. Survivors include his four children and their families, Kay (Gerry) Thompson of Baraboo, and their children, Jory (Marni) (their children, Erika and Madison), Wesley and Ryan; Joy (Dale) Nachtigal of Baraboo, and their children, Steve (Dana), Jeff (Jocelyn) (their daughter, Lili), Ben and Brian; Ann Tangerose of Lima, Peru, and her son, Ronan; and Dan (Elaine) of Baraboo, and their children, Danelle, Michael, Angela and Travis. He is further survived by a special foster daughter, Irene Timm of Kasota, Minnesota, and her children, Jane and Jerry; two foster sons, Jerry Smothers of Baraboo, and Darrell Smothers of Milwaukee; a sister, Evelyn (Bill) Rucker of Sparta; an uncle Cecil Parsons of Boulder, Colorado; many nieces and nephews, and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gen; his grandson, Bradley Nachtigal; three brothers; three sisters; and his son-in-law, Oscar Timm. Funeral services for Virgil will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2000, at BROWN FUENRAL HOME in Baraboo, with Charles Vaughn and Kevin Killam officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2000, at BROWN FUNERAL HOME, and one hour before the service. Burial will take place at the Sauk Prairie cemetery in the town of Prairie du Sac.

Paskey, Agnes J.

POYNETTE - Agnes J. Paskey, age 93, died on Monday, November 13, 2000, at Columbus Community Hospital. Agnes was born on August 25, 1907, in Lowville township, Columbia County, the daughter of Jacob and Marie (Huebner) Lee. On May 30, 1928, she was united in marriage to Edward R. Paskey at Zion Lutheran Church in Leeds, where they were both lifelong members. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on May 31, 1978. Edward and Agnes operated the Hillside Guernsey Dairy Farm of Sun Prairie in the 1930s for nine years and sold raw bottled milk. Later they moved to the Lee family farm in Lowville township, where Agnes still lived in her own home. Agnes was a member of Zion Dorcus Society for many years and the Prairie Valley AARP group of Arlington. Agnes loved to read her Bible and was very interested in politics and the history of our country. For this reason she was a longtime reader and writer of Christian and political articles for the Walsh County Press in Park River, North Dakota, the hometown of her brother, Everrett, for many years. Most near and dear to her were her Lord and her family. She is survived by her son, Elgin (Ruth) Paskey of Poynette; three grandchildren, Steven (Amy) Paskey of Poynette, Cynthia (Joe) Brady of Cambridge, and Linda (Kevin) Williams of Elkhorn; nine great-grandchildren, Rachel, Kimberly and Susan Paskey, Benjamin, Nathaniel and Mara Brady, and Aaron, Leah and Amanda Williams; two brothers, Ernest (Hazel) Lee and Glenn Lee, both of Columbus; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom Agnes loved. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; two sisters, Gladys (Leonard) Wangsness and Juanita Lee; a brother Everrett Lee; and a sister-in-law, Breta Lee. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 17, 2000, at 12:00 p.m. at ZION EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH on County Highway K in South Leeds. Pastor Harold Sturm will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the service at the church. Interment will be at Zion cemetery. Schroeder, Helene Jenny

FORT ATKINSON - Helene Jenny Schroeder, age 90, of Fort Atkinson, formerly of Milwaukee and Madison, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2000, at her home. Helene was born in Milwaukee, on April 10, 1910, the daughter of John Albert and Leone Andres Bendschneider Lutz. She married Ralph Reinhold Schroeder on November 28, 1936, in Salem Lutheran Church, Milwaukee; he preceded her in death on October 18, 1996. Helene worked at Northwestern Mutual Insurance Co., Milwaukee, for a short time before her marriage. She graduated from Riverside High School in Milwaukee and from Mrs. Brown's Business School. Helene was involved with numerous volunteer work, including voter registration, visiting nurses association and Milwaukee Lutheran Hospital. Surviving are a daughter, Leone A. Seeger, Milwaukee; a son, Jerry P. (Kaye) Schroeder, Minnetonka, Minnesota; a daughter, Ruth A. (Terry) Schwalenberg, Fort Atkinson; grandchildren, Donald A. (Renae) Seeger, Dallas, Texas, Jackie C. (Todd) Torrey, Denver, Colorado, David P. (Adrienne) Schroeder, Boisman, Montana, James P. Schroeder, Minnetonka, Minnesota, David D. Schwalenberg, Austin, Texas, and Andrew E. (Christy) Schwalenberg, Austin, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Brett Allen Seeger and Cassidy Anne Schwalenberg. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Ruth E. Schmidt, on October 13, 2000. The funeral service will take place on Friday, November 17, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. at NITARDY FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, Fort Atkinson. The Rev. Michael Duncan and the Rev. Paul Scharrer will officiate. Interment will be in Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield. Friends may call on Friday after 9:30 a.m. until the services at NITARDY FUNERAL HOME. Syverud, Patricia A.

SUN PRAIRIE - Patricia A. Syverud, age 67, died on Monday, November 13, 2000, at her home after a five-and-one-half year courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Syverud was born on June 8, 1933, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the daughter of Namesion and Lillian (Doul) Cornell. She married Ronald Syverud on June 13, 1959, in Madison, Wisconsin. Pat graduated from the Annunciation Grade School and St. Joseph's Academy High School, both located in Green Bay. She attended Edgewood College, Madison, majoring in business. Upon completion of college, she was employed as an executive secretary at CUNA in Madison. Pat for 12 years was a Welcome Wagon representative in the Sun Prairie and DeForest area where her infectious smile and enthusiastic personality will be missed by her clients and newcomers. Additionally, she was responsible for the Ambassador Club in the DeForest area, where she welcomed new businesses there. She was an active member of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, Sun Prairie. The last few years of her life were spent being involved with various cancer society events, such as the Relay for Life drives from her position as honorary co-chair of the Sun Prairie Relay for Life and as a participant. Mrs. Syverud is survived by her husband, Ronald Syverud of Sun Prairie; her daughters, Mary Napoleon of Madison, and Diane Syverud of Richmond, California; her son, Mark (Mary) Syverud of Gurnee, Illinois; her granddaughter, Sarah Syverud; her brothers, Richard (Mary) Cornell of Plymouth, Wisconsin, and Thomas (Sarah) Cornell of Oak Creek, Wisconsin; her sister, Judi Dodson of Cincinnati, Ohio; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2000, at 6:00 p.m. at SACRED HEARTS OF JESUS AND MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 221 Columbus St., Sun Prairie, with Monsignor Duane R. Moellenberendt presiding. Burial will be held in Sacred Hearts Catholic cemetery, Sun Prairie. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service time. Memorials to the Sun Prairie Relay for Life would be appreciated. Tennyson, Clarence G.

PORTAGE - Clarence G. Tennyson, age 93, died on Monday, November 13, 2000, at Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena. Clarence Gordon Tennyson was born in Portage on March 29, 1907, the son of Edward and Mary (Stomner) Tennyson. He was married to Mabelle Irene Murphy in 1937. Mabelle preceded him in death on July 25, 1959. He was a farmer and also worked at AMPI in Portage. He was well-known for his horse trading. He enjoyed raising donkeys and driving his ponies in parades. He also enjoyed the love of his family. Survivors include four children, Tom (Mary) Tennyson, Judy (Ron) Donahue and Nancy (Ron) Schwenke, all of Portage, and Jim (Nola) Tennyson of Montello; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Tennyson was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary; a grandson, Mike Donahue; three sisters, Alice Teeter, Erma Kock and Violet Christofferson; and a brother, Harold. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. from BETHLEHEM LUTHERAN CHURCH in Portage. The Rev. Thomas Wagner will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Grove cemetery in Portage. Welch, Monika Jane

MADISON - Monika Jane Welch, age 45, of Madison, died Saturday, November 11, 2000, at the HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg. She was born April 5, 1955, in Watertown, the daughter of Robert and Bernadette (Verrier) Marks. She is survived by her husband, James Welch, Madison; two children, William and Allison Welch, both of Madison; two brothers, John Marks, Lake Oswego, Oregon, and Steve (Doris) Marks, Portland, Oregon; three sisters, Margaret Marks, Tiffin, Ohio, Kate (Steven) Oldroyd, Dallas, Texas, and Ellen Hossman, Monroe; mother- and father-in-law, William L. and Maxine M. Welch; and a sister-in-law, Kristine (John) Coughlin. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Abigail; her parents; and a nephew, Sean Coughlin. Yogerst, Capri Chapman

McFARLAND - Capri Chapman Yogerst, age 47, of McFarland, died on Sunday, November 12, 2000, unexpectedly at a local hospital following a brief illness. She was born on June 5, 1953, in Madison, the daughter of Betty Jean and Cromer Chapman. Capri graduated from Madison West High School in 1971 and graduated with honors from UW-Madison in 1975. She married John Yogerst on July 7, 1979, in Madison at Christ Presbyterian Church. Capri was administrator and director for 20 years at Miss Betty's Pre-School and then a K-1 teacher for three years at Gompers School in Madison. Capri was passionate to the students she taught. She touched many lives in her teaching career. She was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church. Capri is survived by her husband and best friend, John Yogerst; was the beloved mother of Asheley and Jason; her mother, Betty Jean Chapman of Madison; her brother, Gregg Chapman of Dane; an aunt, Patricia (Glenn) Nording of Madison; a brother-in-law, Ron (Kathy) Yogerst of Kohlsville; and many uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father; and grandparents, Arthur and Gladys Wundrow. Memorial services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2000, with the Rev. John Thomas presiding. Auck, Leon G.

BARABOO/PORTAGE - Leon G. Auck, age 85, of Baraboo, died peacefully with his family surrounding him on Friday, December 1, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. Leon Auck was born on January 26, 1915, in Coleharbor, North Dakota, the son of Gottlieb and Rosina (Holzworth) Auck. In November 1934, he was married to Lydia Sullivan in North Dakota. Leon owned and operated Leon's Pure Oil Gas Station in downtown Portage, and the Speedway Gas Station and Restaurant. He also worked for Raemisch Construction. Leon was a member of Operating Engineers Local No. 139. He is survived by his children, Charlotte Justice (Steve) Sopha, DeForest, LeRoy (Vicki) Auck, Poynette, Diane (Jim) Conkle, Lodi, Sandy (Bud) Fleet, Maxwell, California, Carolyn (Byron) Patchin, Pardeeville, Bonnie (Mike) Locke, Poynette, and Debbie (Ray) Sellers, Stoughton; 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Evie Langdon, Baraboo; a brother, Albert (Helene) Auck, Portage; two sisters, Caroline (Howard) Rittman, Portage, and Delores Wakerhauser, Indiana; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lydia Auck, on September 26, 1995; his sons, Marvin, Larry and Gary; three grandsons, Terry, Todd and Tim Conkle; three brothers, Eugene, Elmer and Adam; and two sisters, Irene Stephens and Leona Larson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2000, at PFLANZ MANTEY MENDRALA FUNERAL HOME in Portage, with the Rev. Eric Silberschmidt officiating. Burial will follow in Newport cemetery, township of Newport. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 4, 2000, at the funeral home in Portage.

Elver, George F.

MIDDLETON - George F. Elver, age 79, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 30, 2000, after a long illness. A celebration of his life will be held at ST. MARTIN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2427 Church St., Cross Plains, at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2000, with the Rev. Rod Hank officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens at a later date.
