POYNETTE/ TOWNSHIP OF DEKORRA - William A. Waugh, age 92, of the township of Dekorra, died on Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 9, 2001, at INCH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, with the Rev. Sharon Jaekel officiating. Burial will follow in Inch cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2001, at PFLANZ MANTEY MENDRALA FUNERAL HOME, Poynette, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the church.

Amacher, Alfred Jr.

ARENA - Alfred Amacher Jr., age 74, of Arena, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at the Greenway Manor in Spring Green. He was born on January 12, 1927 in Arena, the son of Alfred and Edna (Hawley) Amacher. He was married on June 21, 1952 to the former Doris Richards who preceded him in death on September 4, 1990. Al was then married to May Wahl on September 4, 1999. Al was a member of the Arena VFW Post #9336. Survivors include his wife, May Amacher of Arena; five children, Robert (Sharon) Cox of Houston, Texas, Lynette (Joseph) Dion of Burlington, Diane Killen of Mazomanie, Sally Amacher of Arena and Al (Shannon) Amacher of Arena; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret Ellefson of Arena, Virginia Williams of Spring Green and Sally (Russell) Johnson of Arena; and other relatives and friends. In addition to his first wife, Al was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Arlow Amacher. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 6, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH in Spring Green. Reverend Jeanette Strandjord will officiate with burial in the Arena cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Arena VFW Post #9336. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2001 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the RICHARDSON-STAFFORD FUNERAL HOME and on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Bartels, Harlan H.

POYNETTE - Harlan H. Bartels, age 92, of Poynette, died on Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at Cedar Crossing in Poynette. Harlan Bartels was born on November 24, 1908 in Endeavor, Wisconsin, the son of Fred and Winnefred Bartels. He was married on September 19, 1931 in Oxford, Wisconsin to Orpha C. Roller. Together, they owned and operated Bartels Grocery Store in Poynette from 1940 until 1953. Afterwards, he was the personnel manager for Oconomowoc Canning. Company in Poynette. After retirement, he worked in janitorial services and was a bus driver for the Poynette School District. Harlan was a member of the Poynette Presbyterian Church. He loved bowling, hunting and fishing. He is survived by two children, Belva (Dan) Wright of Caledonia, Illinois and Merle Bartels of Poynette; five grandchildren, Kari (Erick) Wnuk of Rockton, Illinois, Stephen (Amy) Wright of Granger, Indiana, Brandi Bartels of Valparaso, Indiana, Eric Bartels of Hobart, Indiana and Adam Bartels of Hobart, Indiana; five great-grandchildren, Kristina, Austin, Justin, Colton, and Zachary; two sisters-in-law, Ellen Bartels, Wautoma and Pat Bartels of Plainfield; and other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Orpha on December 5, 1984; two brothers, Irving and Kenneth Bartels, and a sister, Merna Janisch. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 6, 2001 at the POYNETTE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, with Reverend Paul Strickert officiating. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at New Chester cemetery. Friends may call on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. The PFLANZ MANTEY MENDRALA FUNERAL HOME in Poynette is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Poynette Presbyterian Church.

Batt, John R.

MADISON - John R. Batt, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Inc. inpatient unit. He was born on October 19, 1922, the son of John Robert Sr. and Martha Batt, in Sheboygan. John graduated from Sheboygan North High School in 1940 and was an outstanding athlete in basketball, football, track, and baseball. He received an athletic scholarship to UW-LaCrosse and signed a contract to play baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers, but was unable to do either because he was drafted into the Army to serve in World War II. John served active duty in France and Germany. Upon his return he was offered a contract to play baseball for the St. Louis Browns, presently known as the Baltimore Orioles. John played professionally for the St. Louis Club from 1946 to 1951. He began a 40 year career in sales and advertising which included his own weekly newspaper. In 1990, John moved to Madison to be near his family. During that time he helped to raise three grandchildren and had an incredible influence on the lives of all his grandchildren. John is survived by his four daughters, Sandi (Costas) Panaretos, Mary (Bob) Arndt, Shelly (Kevin) Cosgrove, and Patti (Kim Sandstrom) Batt; and a son, Matt (Jenae) Batt; seven grandchildren, Courtney (Aaron) Stamn, Travis and Shane Skelton, Clint, Shannon, and Connor Cosgrove, and Agathe Panaretos; his great-grandson, Rylan Stamn; two brothers, Marvin Batt and Harold (Jane) Batt; and two sisters, Audrey (Neil) Murray and Janet (Van) Van Till; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Mary, on January 20, 2001; a brother, Lester; and sister, Ruth Busby. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, April 6, 2001 at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5405 Flad Avenue, Madison, with Monsignor Michael Burke officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Friday. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2323 North Mayfair Road, Suite 502, Wauwatosa, WI 53226. He will always be remembered for the incredible self-less and unconditional love he gave to his family and everyone who knew him. He inspired everyone with his courage and dignity while struggling for years with his many physical limitation. Thank you to everyone at the University Station Dialysis Clinic, especially Jan, Alane, Kelly, Gail, Helen, Lesli, Carol, and Dr. Bryan Becker. Buskager, Russell Rodney Bushy

REEDSBURG - Russell Rodney Bushy Buskager, age 60, of Reedsburg, died on Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at his home. He was born on March 15, 1941 to Russell and Frieda (Hebel) Buskager at Poynette. He graduated from Poynette High School. Russell had been employed at Royster Fertilizer. He had worked at Badger Ordanance where met Betty Seiler, whom he married on December 18, 1983 in Baraboo. He then worked at Sysco Foods in Baraboo. Bushy was an avid hunter and enjoyed football, basketball, baseball, auto racing, playing pool and cards. He had a lot of enthusiasm for life, and did everything with zest. He is survived by his wife, Betty of Reedsburg; his mother, Frieda of Madison; his children, Tammy and John at home; step-children, Joseph (Debbie) McFadden of Wisconsin Dells and Rosanne Buskager of Reedsburg; a special nephew, Scott Kautz of Reedsburg; numerous grandchildren; along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Russell W. Buskager; sister, Caroline; step-daughter, Susan McFadden and nephew, Bill Kautz. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001 at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH in Reedsburg with Father Thomas Monaghan and Reverend Marion Hendrickson officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the FARBER FUNERAL HOME.

Caldwell, Mary A.

POYNETTE - Mary A. Caldwell, age 64, of Poynette, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 3, 2001. She was born on December 12, 1936 at Windsor, the daughter of Fred and Ada (Hanneman) Williamson. She leaves behind four grieving children and their families who loved her deeply, and she them unconditionally. She cherished time spent with friends and family. Mary was a faithful member and organist for the Arlington United Methodist Church. She was employed by General Casualty Insurance Company for 17 years. She is survived by her children, Melanie Wallace of Poynette, Radley (Susan) Caldwell of Lodi, Nancy (Lee) Caldwell-Korpela of Brooklyn and Kay (Brad) Basten of Columbus; her grandchildren, Aimee and Hannah Wallace, Tyler and Kalli Caldwell, Nikolai, Mackenzie, Kelsey and Wesley Korpela and Jack and Tom Basten; her mother, Ada Williamson of Lodi; two sisters, Nancy Dall of Fond du Lac and Jane Johnson of Downers Grove, Illinois; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Williamson; a grandson, Joseph Basten; two brothers-in-law, Robert Dall and Jerald Johnson. Her wonderful sense of humor, unconditional love, her love of life and simple things will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2001 at the ARLINGTON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH with Reverend Stan Curtis officiating. Interment will be in the Windsor cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2001 at the HAMRE FUNERAL HOME in Lodi. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Arlington United Methodist Church.

Case, Hulda E.

PARDEEVILLE - Hulda E. Case, age 98, of Pardeeville, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at the St. Marys Hospital in Madison. Hulda was born on July 21, 1902, in Menominee, Michigan, the daughter of Gustav and Eleanora (Johannson) Salem. She attended school in Menominee, until third grade, when her family moved to Portage. After graduation from High School Hulda attended Stevens Point and completed her High School Teachers Training Course. Her first teaching job was in Almond, Wisconsin, in 1924. In 1927, she moved to Bismark, North Dakota to teach, Jr. High math. Hulda then worked at the Portage Creamery for 11 years until 1941, as a bookkeeper. She was united in marriage to Alverne D. Case on February 10, 1940, in Portage. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1981. Hulda taught 4th grade in Pardeeville from 1950 until retiring in 1969. Hulda was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pardeeville, the retired Teachers Association, Star of Bethlehem Eastern Star of Portage, and former member of the Pardeeville Study Club. Hulda held a Bible study in her home for many years. She is known for her cookie baking. Hulda has made cookies for family, shut-ins, Christmas gifts and church functions. When you would go to Huldas the cookie jar was always full. She has her cookie recipes in a cookbook called Huldas Cookie Jar. Hulda was an educator, not only through teaching, but by example. She was a pillar of the church and community. She enjoyed reading, visiting at nursing homes, but most dear to her was her family. Hulda is survived by her son, Richard (Roberta) Case of Midland, Texas; a daughter, Ellen (Robert) Hull of Sun Prairie; her grandchildren, Katherine Case, David Case, Rebecca (Paul) Tidberg, and Richard (Stacy Walker) Hull; sister-in-law, Blanche Salem of Delavan; nieces, nephews, other near relatives and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers and sisters, Anna Pallin, Esther Smith, Ellen Dissmore, Richard Salem, Arthur Salem and Carleton Goldie Salem. Funeral services for Hulda Case will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2001, at 10:00 a.m. at the UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in Pardeeville. Pastor Dennis Weis will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pardeeville cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the SMITH FUNERAL HOME in Pardeeville on Friday, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Memorials may be made in Hulda's name to the United Methodist Church in Pardeeville or to World Vision, P.O. Box 70200, Tacoma, WA 98481-0200.

Hill, Charles T.

JANESVILLE - Charles T. Hill, age 71, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at Mercy Hospital. He was born March 20, 1930 in Park Falls, Wisconsin, the son of Robert and Laura (Green) Hill. A Janesville resident since 1953, he married Patsy Wilson on April 23, 1955 in Boscobel, Wisconsin. Mr. Hill was employed at GMAD, retiring in 1995, after 42 1/2 years. He was a member of UAW Local #95, and had many different interests including playing guitar, wooden crafts and making wooden toys. Mr. Hill was also a local stock car fan and enjoyed helping people, offering transportation or even a ride if needed. He is survived by his wife, Patsy; two children, David Hill, and Gregory Hill both of Janesville; a granddaughter, Samantha Lynn Pippin of Janesville; two sisters, Vivian Stephens of Platteville, and Grace Ann (Harold) Wilson of Beloit; four brothers, Boyd (Irene) Hill of Clinton, Merlyn (Kathy) Hill of Beloit, LaVerne (Dolly) Hill of Beloit and Virgil (Sharon) Hill of Muscoda, Wisconsin; special friends, Linda (Ronald) Hill-Hanson; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard C. Hill; two brothers, Orvill and Robert; and a sister, Ortha Letcher. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2001, at the SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME with Rev. David King officiating. Entombment will be in Milton Lawns Mausoleum. Infield, Edward H.

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN - A well known Prairie du Chien businessman, Edward H. Infield, age 79, died on Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at his home. He was born on March 3, 1922, in Boscobel, Wisconsin, son of William and Bessie Infield. He married Margaret Mulholland in 1942. She preceded him in death in 1976. He later married Vivian Cress in 1978. He farmed in the Mt. Zion area and later worked for Mor-Man Feeds in Lancaster, Wisconsin. He owned and operated Eddies Inn in Lancaster for 15 years until moving to Prairie du Chien in 1969. He then owned and operated Eddies Inn in Prairie du Chien until his retirement in 1996. He was the past president of the Grant-Iowa County Tavern League. He is survived by his wife, Vivian of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; two sons, Edward (Phyllis) of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, and Ronald (Kristin) of Cassville, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his stepmother, Hilda Ramsey of Troy Mills, Iowa; stepson, Howard (Norma) Cress of Troy Mills, Iowa; stepdaughters, Jane (Keith) Beresford of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Joetta (Bruce) Klendworth of Troy Mills, Iowa; 13 stepgrandchildren; and 13 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Marcia Vesperman. Funeral services will be on Friday, April 6, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at the GARRITY FUNERAL HOME in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Rev. Stuart Allen officiating, with burial in the Union Hill cemetery in Mt. Zion, Wisconsin. Friends may call on Thursday, April 5, 2001, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the GARRITY FUNERAL HOME.

BEAVER DAM - Noreen M. Kleindl, age 87, died on Tuesday, April 3, 2001. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. at ST. PETERS CATHOLIC CHURCH in Beaver Dam. Interment will be in St. Peters cemetery, Beaver Dam. Lacy, Mike A.

STOUGHTON - Mike A. Lacy, age 49, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at a Madison Hospital. He was born on June 28, 1951, the son of the late Arthur J. and Dorraine (Johnson) Lacy, Jr. Mike was a 1969 graduate of Stoughton High School and graduated from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater in 1973. He was married to the former Nadine Roneid on August 23, 1975 in Stoughton. Mike loved to fish and golf with his buddies. He worked at Rockweiler Insulation of Verona. Mike will be sadly missed by his wife, Nadine; three children, Nicole, Andrew, and Greg; two sisters, Louise Purdy of Madison, and Barbara Lacy of Los Vegas, Nevada; a brother, Robert Lacy of Prescott Arizona; step-mother, Genevieve Lacy of Stoughton; two step-sisters, Tenni (Ralph) Annen of Stoughton, and Jan (Sevie) Kenyon of Stoughton; mother-in-law, Anna Roneid of Stoughton; brother-in-law, Dennis (Mary Ellen) Roneid of West Allis, Wisconsin; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents; Mike was also preceded in death by a brother, John. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 848 E. Main Street, Stoughton, with Rev. Bob Alley officiating. Burial will follow in Lutheran South cemetery. MADISON - Dorcas Branson Nickles passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday evening, March 23, 2001, at Attic Angel Place in Madison, at age 90. A memorial service will be held at ATTIC ANGEL PLACE Saturday, April 7, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. Any memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church or Attic Angels.

Nikolai, Carol J. (Beyer)

CRIPPLE CREEK, COLORADO / MADISON - Carol J. (Beyer) Nikolai, age 70, former Madison resident, of Cripple Creek, Colorado was killed in a traffic accident near Dodge City, Kansas on March 15, 2001. Carol was born on November 24, 1930, in Milwaukee. She graduated from Edgewood High School, and Edgewood College, 1953. She taught elementary education in Columbus and Madison. Carol is survived by her husband, Charles; six children; thirteen grandchildren; a sister, Judy (Jim) Anderson of Verona; and a brother, Peter (Marva) of Houston, Texas. Funeral services were held in Cripple Creek, Colorado on March 20, 2001.
