Plon, Florian H.

MADISON - Florian H. Plon, age 91, died after a short illness on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare, Inc., in Fitchburg. He was born June 4, 1911, in Plain, Wis., to Henry and Katherine (Reuschlein) Plon. He married Catherine Crownhart April 23, 1938, in Elmwood, Wis. Florian had been employed by Ray-O-Vac for 35 years where he was a member of the 25 Year Club. He served as a Sergeant in the Pacific in the US Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Florian is survived by two daughters, Julia (William) West of Sun Prairie, Maxine (Randal) Hooper of St. Claire Beach, Ontario, Canada; a son, Dean of Madison; a sister, Irma McDonald of Red Bank, NJ; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Catherine; three brothers, Theodore, Louis and Norman; and three sisters, Evelyn Silvertson, Stella Carle and Lucy Silvertson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC CHURCH, 404 E. Main Street. Burial will be at Resurrection Catholic cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Avenue, and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. Raymond, Dr. William H.

OREGON - Dr. William H. Raymond, age 61, died at his home on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003. He was born Sept. 8, 1941, in Bunker Hill, Ill., the son of Carl H. and Edith A. (Schultus) Raymond. Dr. Raymond was a graduate of Bunker Hill High School, Bunker Hill, Ill., in 1959. He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University with a Masters Degree, and University of Utah graduate with a Masters Degree. He also earned his PhD at the University of Utah. He currently was the Senior Scientist at the University of Wisconsin Madison in the Atmospheric Science Dept. for 26 years. Dr. Raymond was a member of the American Metrological Society. Survivors include his wife, the former Sandra Woods of Oregon; a daughter Andrea; a son Craig; two brothers, Carl (Jean), and Don (Mary Ann); foster sisters, Pat, Carol and Sharon; nephews, Michael and Matt; and niece Lisa. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law, Doris Raymond; and nieces, Cindy Raymond and Trudy Krankel. Funeral services will be held at the MEMORIAL BAPTIST CHURCH, 201 South Main St., Verona, Wis., on Tuesday, February 11, 2003, at 11 a.m. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the JOYCE-RYAN VERONA FUNERAL HOME, 118 N. Robson, Delma R.

VERONA - Delma R. Robson, age 77, died peacefully on Saturday, February 8, 2003, at Four Winds Manor in Verona. She was born on March 12, 1925, in New Glarus to the late Gilbert and Tillie Geiger. She was a longtime Madison resident and was employed for most of her working career at First Wisconsin Bank of Madison. Delma is survived by her daughters, Nancy Turner of Madison, LaNah (Mike) Wheeler of Chandler, Arizona, and Susan (Patrick) Soule of Madison; grandchildren, Patrick (Stephanie) Turner, Aime Turner, Jennifer (Rick) Sapiano, Christine (James) Roeger, Sara (Jarod) Richardson, Clinton (Michelle Maccaux) Soule, and Jacob (Crystal Noonan) Soule; six great-grandchildren, Griffin, Dylan, Madison, Mia, Christian, and Jayden; a sister-in-law, Marie (Jake) Streiff; and her special little dog, Muffy. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her brothers, Homer, Marlow, and Robert; and her sister, Lucille. Private family services will be held. Scheel, Velma V. "Val"

MADISON - Velma V. "Val" Scheel, age 75, of Madison graciously accepted eternal life with her Lord after a 2 month illness on Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, surrounded by her immediate family. Velma was born on Dec. 30, 1927, in Portage, the daughter of Albert and Anna (Thielen) Tritz. An outdoor enthusiast, Val loved to travel, camp and fish. In addition, she was a big fan of "The Young and The Restless" and "Wheel of Fortune" (one was not to call between 11:00-12:00 and 6:30-7:00). She was well known for her cinnamon rolls, and one could always rely on her for love and support. A woman ahead of her time, she was strong-willed, not afraid to voice her opinion and always stood her ground. As a result she taught many to stand up for their beliefs and not to back down. She was an inspiration to many and her work ethic has rubbed off on family and friends. Left with loving memories are her children, a daughter, Cyndi (Manuel) Valerio, Cleburne, Texas and grandchildren, Danielle (Jeff) Jett Dayton, Ohio, Thielen (fianc, Gary Vogel) Harris and Nathan Harris, Cleburne, Texas; a daughter, Vickie (Russell) Manke, Whitewater, Wis., and grandchildren, Tamara (Jeff) Anderegg and great-granddaughter, Lillie, Iowa City, Iowa; Raquel Manke, Madison, Amanda Manke, Oshkosh, Wis.; a son, Doug (fianc, Pam Klappstein) Portage and grandchildren, Mathew Scheel, Port Washington, Wis., Emily Scheel, Poynette, Wis., and Cassie, Portage; a son, Paul (Karin Kools-Scheel) and granddaughter, Caitlin, Appleton, Wis. She is further survived by her loving companion of 22 years, Robert Kettleson, Stoughton, Wis.; her sisters, Berna Tissier, Belleville, Ill., Marie Jirsa, Portage, Rhynelda (Harry) Curtis, Montello, Wis., and Regina (Mel) Davis, Chilton, Wis.; a brother, Roman, LaCrosse, Wis. and nieces, nephews, and may friends. Statz, Craig Steven

CROSS PLAINS - Craig Steven Statz, age 31, of Cross Plains, died on Feb. 7, 2003, from injuries sustained in a snowmobile accident in Northern Wisconsin. He was born on July 7, 1971, in Madison, the son of Gerald and Sandra (Pertzborn) Statz. A 1989, graduate of Middleton High School, Craig attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1994. Craig married Kristine C. Rabe on Aug. 4, 2000, in Cross Plains. He was co-owner and vice president of Statz and Harrop, Inc. Craig served as vice president of Cross Plains Snowmobile Club CP Riders, and was liaison to the Dane County Council for the CP Riders Snowmobile Club. Craig was an avid outdoorsman and a loving and proud father. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Survivors include his loving wife, Kris; his two year old son, Brady, and a child due April 8; beloved son of Gerald and Sandra (Pertzborn) Statz; brothers, Jeff (Sarah) Statz of California, Brad Statz of Cross Plains; grandfather, Herbert (Mary) Statz; mother-in-law, Pamela Rabe of Monona; brother-in-law, Scott (Wendy) Rabe of North Carolina; a niece, Hannah Statz; nephews, Hunter and Hayden Statz, and Kyler and Noah Rabe; best buddies, Jesse Dahlk, and Jeff Zwettler; two God children, Evan Zwettler, and Melanie Accola; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends. Craig was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Don and Lydia Pertzborn; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Statz; and an uncle, Richard Statz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. Bublitz, Edwin W.

COLUMBUS - Edwin W. Bublitz, age 79, of Columbus, died Monday, April 14, 2003, at Columbus Community Hospital. Ed had been an agent for Standard Oil in the Columbus area for 30 years. He was a very faithful and active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Columbus, serving on many committees. He was a member of the Columbus Lions Club. He is mourned by his wife of 56 years, Doris; six children, Bonnie (David Bischoff), Juneau, Edwin Jr. (Barbara), Beaver Dam, Joyce (Rodric) Roth, Duluth, Ga., Christine (Martin) Sell, Juneau, Alan (Janet) Bublitz, Wausau, and William (Ronda) Bublitz, Columbus; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters. Cain, David Thomas "Dave"

MADISON - David Thomas Cain, age 39, died on Saturday, April 12, 2003, in Madison. He was born on July 23, 1963, in Chilton, Wis., the son of Edelbert and Blanche (Burnette) Cain. David graduated from Wisconsin Indianhead Technical Institute in Ashland with a degree in hotel and motel management. He is survived by his brothers, Dale (Susan) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Jeff (Debbie) of Kenosha; two nieces, Jenni and Amber; and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service for David will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2003, at 1 p.m. at ST. LUKE'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 4011 Major Ave., Madison. The Rev. Gary Lambert and the Rev. Clifton, Nancy Lee

MONTFORT - Nancy Lee Clifton, age 54, of Montfort, died Monday, April 14, 2003, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, Lancaster, after a brief illness. She was born Jan. 28, 1949, in Dodgeville, the daughter of Marvin and Mary Jean (Laufenberg) Clifton. She grew up in Montfort and attended Iowa Grant Special Education for 12 years. She worked at Twin Platt and Southwest Opportunity. She enjoyed family, bowling, dancing and playing slot machines. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Montfort. Survivors include her parents, Marvin (Mary Jean) Clifton, Montfort; a brother, David (Joyce) Clifton, Montfort; two sisters, Jill (Rick) Grimm, Verona, and Lorrie (Peter) Briehl, Cedarburg; and nieces and nephews, Sadie Dahlk, Brooke Oleson, Kayla Briehl, Seth Grimm, Ryan Clifton and Jonathan Briehl. Services will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at ST. THOMAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Montfort. Father Ken Fritsch will officiate, with burial at the church cemetery. Edwards, Dean

STOUGHTON/ MINONG - Dean M. Edwards, age 63, died Sunday, April 13, 2003. He was born in Stoughton June 9, 1939, a son of Milo and Marvel (Stolen) Edwards. He was educated and graduated from Stoughton High School in 1958 where he enjoyed many hours as a Norwegian dancer. He was a former member of the Air National Guard. Dean was presently employed by Stoughton Trucking Inc. as a truck driver. He was a former Stoughton police officer and was a member of the Association of Law Enforcement and National Rifle Association. He married the former Kathleen Sullivan of Stoughton in 1973. Dean is survived by his wife; children, Beth (Dave) Huwe of Madison, Timothy (Jennifer) Edwards of Stoughton, and Jean Edwards Miller of Oregon; three step-sons, Patrick Sullivan of Stoughton, Michael (Marguerite) Sullivan of Newton, N.C., and Daniel (Sherry) Sullivan of Clinton, Iowa; his grandchildren, Theodore Huwe, Amber and Katlin Sullivan, Anna Miller, and Karley and Michael Sullivan; his mother, Marvel Edwards of McFarland; a sister, Pat (Willie) Rossman of McFarland; his godmother and aunt, Louise Schmeling-Davey of Milton; other loving relatives, nieces, and nephews further survive. He was preceded in death by his father, Milo Edwards; a grandchild, Amelia Huwe; and other loving relatives. Services will be held Thursday, April 17, 2003, at 11 a.m. at OLSON- HOLZHUTER- CRESS, Stoughton. The Rev. Terry Peterson will officiate. Epperly, Albert Paul

MCFARLAND - McFarland resident Albert Paul Epperly who lived with his daughter, Sharon Vancil, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2003, in McFarland. A memorial service for Al, age 84, will be on Saturday, April 19, 2003, at 3 p.m. at FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, Davenport, Iowa. Al's 17-year professional baseball career included pitching for the Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Seals, Milwaukee Brewers, Brooklyn Dodgers, Montreal Royals, St. Paul Saints and he played winter ball for two years in Havana Cuba. He was a member of the 1938 Chicago Cubs team when they played the New York Yankees in the World Series. In 1954, Al began his 30-year career with the Scott County, Iowa, sheriff's office. In February 2002, Al was very proud to be inducted into the Iowa 2002 Baseball Hall of Fame in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Al felt very special to have so many close neighborhood friends, enjoyed watching his bowling buddies get those strikes, and throwing his line in the back waters several blocks away. Vivian, his loving wife of 63 years, preceded him in death. Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Sharon Vancil and Sandy and Tom Koenig; his grandchildren and their spouses, Chris and Melodi Koenig and Heidi and Brian Corrigan; his great-grandchildren, Tommy and Ricky; his brother-in-law and wife, Paul and Caryle Gibson; his sister-in-law, Grace Epperly; and his very special nieces and nephews. Gilman, Richard G. "Dick"

LIVINGSTON - Richard G. "Dick" Gilman, age 55, of Livingston, died on Monday, April 14, 2003, at Upland Hills Health, Dodgeville, following an apparent heart attack. Dick was born on Dec. 5, 1947, in Dodgeville, to Gordon and Martha (Paynter) Gilman. He was employed as an assistant foreman at Nelson Muffler in Mineral Point. He loved his time spent with his family as well as hunting, fishing and watching NASCAR. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two infant grandsons, Jarren and Garrett Mosley. Dick is survived by his daughter, Karen Gilman of Dodgeville; his grandson, Seth Mosley; a sister, Ann Nichols of Linden; three brothers, Carlton (Wilma) Gilman of Dodgeville, William (Idamae) Gilman of Mineral Point, and Jack (Diane) Gilman of Linden; as well as nieces, nephews and many friends. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2003, at the LULLOFF-PETERSON-HOUCK FUNERAL HOME, Dodgeville. Pastor Brian Rudesill will officiate with burial in the Linden cemetery. Hanson, Elizabeth "Betty"

MOUNT HOREB - Elizabeth Marie "Betty" Hanson, age 89, of Mount Horeb, died Monday, April 14, 2003, at the Ingleside Nursing Home. She was born on Jan. 18, 1914, in Highland Township, to Edward and Clara (Nelson) Gilbertson. Betty was baptized and confirmed at Otter Creek Lutheran Church. She worked as a cosmetologist in Dodgeville and Mount Horeb for many years. On Nov. 22, 1950, Betty married Otto Hanson and they lived in Mount Horeb all their married life. Betty belonged to Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mount Horeb where she enjoyed participating in church activities. Betty is survived by her sister, Charlotte Gilbertson of Middleton; her sister-in-law, Della Hanson of Spring Green; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Otto; her sister, Olga Gilbertson; and her parents. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2003, at MOUNT HOREB EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHAPEL, with the Rev. Tom Isaacson officiating. Burial will be at Mount Horeb Union cemetery. Harbort, Raymond J.

MADISON/FORT OGLETHORPE, GA. - Raymond J. Harbort, age 84, passed away at Hutcheson Medical Center in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., on Monday, April 14, 2003. He was a native and lifelong resident of Madison, Wis. Raymond graduated from Madison East High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Raymond retired from Giddings & Lewis after many years of service. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Madison, and a lifetime member of the Elks. Raymond is survived by his wife, Elayne Harbort; his son, Jan Harbort; a daughter-in-law, Judy Harbort; three grandchildren, Todd, Dana and Dewayne; two great-grandchildren, Mason and Siera; a brother, Robert (Alice) Harbort; three sisters, Helen Harris, Carol Longfield and Edna (Erving) Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
